  • Cant get to install menu, liveCD

    When I tried to run the Ubuntu install disc i get a purple screen with some little images down the bottom, then a flashing cursor for a second and then the screen goes black like there is no in I have tried changing BIOS settings that supposedly interfere, different disk drives and trying to access the advanced menu all to no avail! All the answers for black screens require you to be able to get the menu which i cant! Help would be much appreciated!

    Hi, Has anyone implemented a holiday workflow approval / tracking list in MOSS Sharepoint 2007? Can anyone suggests other solutions? The solution below works fine but I am specifically looking for a way to lookup manager of the user who created the holiday request list item in the workflow. I have followed this link http://www.u2u.info/Blogs/Kevin/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=39 which shows you how to create a custom workflow approval. Below are the steps outlined by the link. User add new holiday item to list Workflow kicks off Wf has the manager hardcoded (need a way to look this up, maybe from AD??) and creates a Task for them to review the request. If desired, this can include an email notification of the task Manager reviews, adds comments and approves/denies request User is notified of completed request Many Thanks, Naveen

    Hi all, I am trying to develop a J2ME application that could retrieve the google map by passing in the GPS coordinates. From http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.php/Google_Maps_API_in_Java_ME, it provides the Utility method for map scrolling. Basically it states that i need to include MicroFloat library in my project. Here's what i did (Not sure if i am doing it right) Create a project, build the code. Add the jar file into my current project lib. but i am still getting error from codes. Example double LToY(double y) { return Math.round( offset - radius * Double.longBitsToDouble(MicroDouble.log( Double.doubleToLongBits( (1 + Math.sin(Math.toRadians(y))) / (1 - Math.sin(Math.toRadians(y))) ) )) / 2); } Am i missing any import statment???     Hi, I am traditionally a Perl and C++ programmer, so apologies in advance if I am misunderstanding something trivial about Python! I would like to create a reference to a reference. Huh? Ok. All objects in Python are actually references to the real object. So, how do I create a reference to this reference? Why do I need/want this? I am overriding sys.stdout and sys.stderr to create a logging library. I would like a (second-level) reference to sys.stdout. If I could create a reference to a reference, then I could create a generic logger class where the init function receives a reference to a file handle reference that will be overrided, e.g., sys.stdout or sys.stderr.     I'm following the Kevin Skoglund tutorial Ruby on Rails 3 Essential Training, which was written for rails 3.0, though I am currently using 3.2. It uses the following method in the pages_controller with a before_filter to display only the pages which belong to the parent subject. The tutorial explicitly uses .find_by_id because if the result is nil it "will not return an error". However I get the "Called id for nil, which would mistakenly be 4 -- if you really wanted the id of nil, use object_id" error when trying to view a page where @subject has been set to nil. def find_subject if params[:subject_id] @subject = Subject.find_by_id(params[:subject_id]) end end The actual code that is causing the error is: def list @pages = Page.order("pages.position ASC").where(:subject_id => @subject.id) end Is this something that has changed since 3.0? If so, what would be the correct way to implement this functionality in 3.2?

    Hi, I have a class, let's say User adnotated with @XmlRootElement, with some properties (name, surname etc). I use this class for REST operations, as application/xml. The client will POST User class so i want to keep the values in the log. Is there any method in jax-ws to prints out this object as xml?   • Exchange 2010 DAG Automatic Failover Testing/Issue. Not always automatically failing over to health

    Ok I've got 2 exchange 2010 servers that run client access/hub transport/mailbox roles and one exchange 2010 server running just client access/hub transport roles and acts as my bridgehead. The two mailbox servers are running one database setup in a DAG. Server A shows the DB Mounted and Server B shows Healthy. If I reboot Server A via windows GUI Server B switches from healthy to mounted and I see hardly any interruption in service using Outlook 2007. Server A shows "Service down", then "Failed" then "Healthy" and leaves the DB mounted on Server B. This is how it should work, so far so good. Now if I test Server A being shut down cold, or unplugging both nics from network to simulate failure, Server B switches from Healthy to Mounted and server A switches to "Service Down" but my outlook client never connects to the DB mounted on server B! I can connect to server C (client access/hub transport) and get to my email and even send new email out, but incoming email doesn't deliver until Server A is brought back online and it's DB goes back to Healthy status. So I don't understand why it auto fail-overs when I reboot the server with the mounted DB copy, causing very little outlook 2007 hiccup if any. But when I shutdown or DC the mounted DB server it DOES mount the healthy copy but outlook 2007 clients can't connect.. I hope the picture I'm trying to paint makes some sense, it's driving me a little batty. Any help would be appreciated!

    Hi there, got this weird problem, which will hopefully have an obvious solution for some enlightened soul: We have several daily tasks we run via a .vbs script on our server (through the Task Scheduler), and for months it has been fine, but recently we've hit a problem. The .vbs script stopped successfully executing... but oddly it worked fine when ran manually! The error given in these circumstances was always "Timeout". We thought we try a little creative thinking, and run the .vbs another way: Via a .bat file. Again we hit weird issues, but with a little more debugging information, this time around. The .bat file is nothing more than... CScript "C:\location\script.vbs" > Log.txt But the Task Scheduler fails with the following error: 0x1: An incorrect function was called or an unknown function was called. The log.txt file says: CScript Error: Initialization of the Windows Script Host failed. (Not enough storage is available to process this command. ) But get this: The .bat file executes perfectly (vbs script and all) if it's executed with a double click! There's only a problem when it's run by Task Scheduler. What the hell? We're running Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64) and yes, the Task Sheduler's results are the same whether the user is logged in or not. Also, the user that can run the scripts successfully manually, is also the same user that runs the scripts in Task Scheduler. Thanks for any help for this weird problem!

The .vbs scripts stopped successfully executing (always timing out)... but could still be executed manually with no problems(!). Not knowing any good reason why the Task Scheduler should start having problems, we thought we'd try a little "creative thinking", and run the .vbs another way: Via a .bat file executed by the Task Scheduler. Again we hit weird issues, but with a little more debugging information, this time around. The .bat file run by Task Scheduler is nothing more than... CScript "C:\location\script.vbs" > Log.txt But after an attempt to run it, the Task Scheduler fails with the following error: 0x1: An incorrect function was called or an unknown function was called. The Log.txt (as output from the .bat file above) says: CScript Error: Initialization of the Windows Script Host failed. (Not enough storage is available to process this command. ) But get this: The .bat file executes perfectly (vbs script and all) if it's executed with a double click!   • Cloudmin KVM DNS hostnames not working

    I have got a new server which has Cloudmin installed. It's working well and I can create and manage VM's as expected. The server came with a /29 subnet and I requested an additional /29 subnet to allow for more virtual machines. I didn't want to replace the existing /29 subnet with a /28 because that would have caused disruption with my existing VM's. To make life easier I decided to configure a domain name for the Cloudmin host server to allow for automatic hostname setup whenever I create a new virtual machine. I have a domain name (example.com) and I have created an NS record as follows: NS kvm.example.com 123.123.123.123 A kvm.example.com 123.123.123.123 In the above example the IP address is that of the host server, I also have two /29 subnets routed to the server. Now, I've added the two subnets to the Cloudmin administration panel as follows: I've tried to hide as little information as possible without giving all of the server details away! If I ping kvm.example.com I get a response from 123.123.123.123, if I ping the newly created virtual machine (example.kvm.example.com) it fails, and if I ping the IP address that's been assigned to the new virtual machine (from the second subnet) it fails. Am I missing anything vital? Does this look (from what little information I can show) like it's setup correctly? Any help/pointers would be appreciated.   • Browsing Audiobooks on an iPod Nano

    The sitation: I've got a stack of audiobooks in MP3 format in my iTunes library, and both an iPhone and an iPod Nano. After this question, I've changed the Media Kind for the audiobook MP3s from Music to Audiobook. This has been, overall, spectacular, as now I can resume where I was, they show up under Audiobooks, etc. On the iPhone, it's also super convenient, since the interface shows what used to be an album with multiple songs as a single book with multiple chapters, and going into "Audiobooks" presents me with a list of books, not tracks. The Nano, on the other hand, is a little strange. After changing the media type and re-syncing the ipod, the files in question are now listed under Audiobooks rather than Music, and the extra Audiobook features are present (resume playback and so on,) but the Audiobooks menu just lists all the MP3 tracks on the iPod in alphabetical order, ignoring whichever book/album they belong to - and doesn't seem to let me browse them any other way. This is, clearly, a little sub-optimal. Did I screw something up? How do I get the Nano to treat the files in a similar way to the way the iPhone and iTunes does - as books with chapters? Is there a step I missed somewhere? Do I need to reformat the iPod? Is this even possible? (Footnote: shameless bump, since this just scored me a tumbleweed.)

  • Can't find standalone Chrome Gmail client that I know exists

    I'm on Windows. A couple years ago when I switched from Outlook to Gmail (Google Apps), Google provided this awesome little standalone gmail client that was just a single-purpose Chrome install. It launched like a normal application, stayed updated when I updated Chrome. It was Chrome in a separate application that launched only gmail, stayed logged in really well, and "felt" like a gmail mail client, with the gmail interface. It had it's own little red envelope icon, it was a windows app. (I remember there was no Mac equivalent.) I found it while looking through the "this is how you get your company to switch to gmail" documentation that Google provided. I just repaved my box and now I'm looking for this thing again, and I had no idea it would be impossible to find. I've spent literally 2 hours looking, searching, googling, etc. I'm losing my mind. Anyone know how I can get my hands on this? I used it all day every day for 2 years, so I know it exists :), but I can not find it. Any assistance would be gratefully received.
