  • Configure Postfix to use external MX servers for delivery of local mail if user is unknown

    I have a following setup: linux box with postfix configured to be responsible for example.com domain domain's MX servers are configured so that mail sent to example.com is sent to google mail servers several user accounts on linux machine exist (same machine also hosts example.com site) When someone from the outside attempts to send mail to address ending with @example.com, it gets routed to google mail (and there handled appropriately). When linux machine tries to send mail to outside world, mail is delivered correctly, as reverse dns and spf records are configured correctly, so linux machine is valid mail sender for example.com domain (along with google mail servers). However, here's the problem. When php application (hosted at linux box) tries to send mail to [email protected] (and someuser doesn't exist on linux box), it fails, since it doesn't even consult google mail servers, but postfix smtp locally concludes that "someuser" is unknown. So, the question is: how do I tell postfix to relay mails sent to @example.com domain to google mail servers (so, to servers specified in MX records), IF and only if a mailbox is not found locally.

  • Issue with Capslock key on Laptop

    For some reason my laptop has a mind of its own and the Caps Lock tends to come on whenever it feels like it. I thought it was an software issue from that reasoning, but I later cleared the OS and then reinstalled it hoping to fix the problem, but it didn't. Not only does it do that it also comes on and off whenever the letters A, S, and left shift key are pushed. So I assummed it was a keyboard issue and that the keyboard needs to be replaced, but it has one of those touch pad cap lock buttons also, because even when I press that button it tends to not react. So how can that be fixed with a keyboard replacement or is that connected still? EDIT - I followed the direction with the following code in notepad and it didn't do the job: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout] “Scancode Map”=hex:00000000 00000000 0200000000 00003A00 00000000

  • Power Supply Not Working?

    So I recently made some purchases for a new computer including: Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R CPU : Intel Core2Quad 2.66Ghz Power Supply: Antec Basiq 500w UPDATE: I got the Power Supply working, the motherboard's lights come on, the video card fan spins, BUT the CPU fan does NOT spin and there is no video. Whats the possibility of lacking power? In the mobo guide it says the use of a power supply providing a 2x4 12V connector is recommended (I do not have this connector) by the CPU manufacturer when using an Intel Extreme Edition (I'm using Core2Quad) UPDATE: Got it working, intstalling windows 7 now.   • VMware - Watching multiple virtual machine screens

    Hi, I don't know even if I put the question right, but here's what I'd like to accomplish. I have avoided specifying exact Vmware virtualization product here because I'm not sure which one would be most suitable for the task at hand. I am developing an application that works in local network. This application has to run on several computers at the same time, and it's important to me, as a developer and tester, to see (literally) how it behaves at all times on all computers. Is there any way to connect to screens of virtual machines deployed on ESX, ESXi, Sever 2.0, or some other product, so that I can see something like grid of screens, say 4x4 or 6x4 or whatever number of scaled screens, at the same time? Ability to interact with screens directly from grid (by double-clicking a screen, for instance, and then getting full resolution screen) would be greatly appreciated, of course. I hope that someone understood what I meant here. :)

  • Apache reverse proxy with VirtualHost not serving a page

    I have an Apache reverse proxy set to move requests to a Tomcat Applet. The config is similar to: <VirtualHost 100.100.100.100:80> ProxyPass /AppName/App http://1.1.1.1/AppName/App ProxyPassReverse /AppName/App http://1.1.1.1/AppName/App </VirtualHost> I also have a page called summary.html that exists on 1.1.1.1 as: http://1.1.1.1/AppName/summary.html When I browse directly to it I have no problem viewing it, however if I try to get there via the reverse proxy I get a blank page. Wireshark shows me a 503, but this one is coming from the Apache reverse proxy (IP 100.100.100.100) and not the Tomcat (IP 1.1.1.1). Should I add http://1.1.1.1/AppName/ to the config? How? I tried it but I get a blank page, however this one shows on the URL bar of the browser the internal IP of the Tomcat, so, no go. Help is appreciated. Thanks.   • What causes Multi-Page allocations?

    Writing about changes in the Denali Memory Manager In his last post Rusi mentioned: " In previous SQL versions only the 8k allocations were limited by the ‘max server memory’ configuration option.  Allocations larger than 8k weren’t constrained." In SQL Server versions before Denali single page allocations and multi-Page allocations are handled by different components, the Single Page Allocator (which is responsible for Buffer Pool allocations and governed by 'max server memory') and the Multi-Page allocator (MPA) which handles allocations of greater than an 8K page. If there are many multi-page allocations this can affect how much memory needs to be reserved outside 'max server memory' which may in turn involve setting the -g memory_to_reserve startup parameter. We'll follow up with more generic articles on the new Memory Manager structure, but in this post I want to clarify what might cause these larger allocations. So what kinds of query result in MPA activity? I was asked this question the other day after delivering an MCM webcast on Memory Manager changes in Denali. After asking around our Dev team I was connected to one of our test leads Sangeetha who had tested the plan cache, and kindly provided this example of an MPA intensive query: A workload that has stored procedures with a large # of parameters (say > 100, > 500), and then invoked via large ad hoc batches, where each SP has different parameters will result in a plan being cached for this “exec proc” batch. This plan will result in MPA.   Exec proc_name @p1, ….@p500 Exec proc_name @p1, ….@p500 . . . Exec proc_name @p1, ….@p500 Go   Another workload would be large adhoc batches of the form: Select * from t where col1 in (1, 2, 3, ….500) Select * from t where col1 in (1, 2, 3, ….500) Select * from t where col1 in (1, 2, 3, ….500) … Go  In Denali all page allocations are handled by an "Any size page allocator" and included in 'max server memory'. So what I want to know is can I buy an upgrade license which is around 1.99k, and install a clean Windows 8 OS(I want a complete clean install, no upgrading) on my system using my friends Windows 8 disc with my upgrade license or I need to buy a completely new retail copy?

  • How can I obtain/build a wireless volume knob for Windows?

    I use my computer as a media center and simply love it. It's an older box running XP and it works better than everything else I've tried turning into a media center (Windows 7, Vista, several Linux distros, etc). The only thing I hate is having to walk to my audio amp to turn the volume up or down. I can use the Windows volume slider or any keyboard with keys to control volume. What I'd really love is to have a wireless knob which I can put anywhere when listening to music (e.g. kitchen) which controls the volume. It seems so simple yet I can't find it anywhere. Having controls for pausing and moving to next song would also be terrific. Griffin's Powermate could do the trick but I'd really want it to be wireless. Do you know of something I can buy or build myself to serve this purpose?

  • How to keep a data structure synchronized over a network?

    Context In the game I'm working on (a sort of a point and click graphic adventure), pretty much everything that happens in the game world is controlled by an action manager that is structured a bit like: So for instance if the result of examining an object should make the character say hello, walk a bit and then sit down, I simply spawn the following code: var actionGroup = actionManager.CreateGroup(); actionGroup.Add(new TalkAction("Guybrush", "Hello there!"); actionGroup.Add(new WalkAction("Guybrush", new Vector2(300, 300)); actionGroup.Add(new SetAnimationAction("Guybrush", "Sit")); This creates a new action group (an entire line in the image above) and adds it to the manager. All of the groups are executed in parallel, but actions within each group are chained together so that the second one only starts after the first one finishes. When the last action in a group finishes, the group is destroyed. Problem Now I need to replicate this information across a network, so that in a multiplayer session, all players see the same thing. Serializing the individual actions is not the problem. But I'm an absolute beginner when it comes to networking and I have a few questions. I think for the sake of simplicity in this discussion we can abstract the action manager component to being simply: var actionManager = new List<List<string>>(); How should I proceed to keep the contents of the above data structure syncronized between all players? Besides the core question, I'm also having a few other concerns related to it (i.e. all possible implications of the same problem above): If I use a server/client architecture (with one of the players acting as both a server and a client), and one of the clients has spawned a group of actions, should he add them directly to the manager, or only send a request to the server, which in turn will order every client to add that group? What about packet losses and the like? The game is deterministic, but I'm thinking that any discrepancy in the sequence of actions executed in a client could lead to inconsistent states of the world. How do I safeguard against that sort of problem? What if I add too many actions at once, won't that cause problems for the connection? Any way to alleviate that?

  • Random shut down? Asus N53J Laptopi

    My Laptop is pretty new and today it random shut down on its own. I was surfing the net and the computer shut down on its own (Like losing power, without any warning). It was the 2nd time, the first time was 3 weeks ago. Btw it happens during cold days. I remember one time I was unable to turn on my laptop at all. So I'm pretty sure it's not related to heat issue... could it be the laptop is too "cold"? My room temperature is around 17=18 degree on average :P edit -I use Windows 7 Professional. -I run memtest86 once and it passed. -I run my laptop WITHOUT battery all the time.

    for some reason when i press the shift key on my laptop keyboard is mapped to 'ctrl+v' which does a paste. i thought it was the keyboard but then i replaced it with a wireless one,it still gives me the same issue. can someone help me. i cant just turn off the shift key all together because i do need it at times. model 8510w; vista operating system

  • MacBook (13 in. Aluminum late 08) power adapter starting to fail

    I have a MacBook (Late '08 13 In. Aluminum) with the Apple provided power adapter. I think it may be failing because It takes a little moving around with the cable nearest where it connects to the MacBook to get it to charge (small light turns on). The area of cable nearest the MacBook gets very hot, almost burning. Any ideas of how I could fix it? Hopefully without replacing the adapter. Thanks in advance!

  • Apache freezing, How to detect which virtual host is getting hit?

    I have a production server that in the last 24 hours has been hard rebooted 4 times due to freezes. Ping is fine but all other services time-out (Apache, SSHd, etc). I have now diagnosed it to Apache running out of memory due to an exorbitant amount of child processes forking suddenly within seconds of starting Apache. Stopping Apache just after rebooting keeps the server stable again. My two questions are: Is there a way to detect which of the vhosts is being suddenly hammered without looking into each vhost's access log one by one? Is there a way to quickly enable/disable vhosts without commenting (#) them all out in httpd.conf?

  • Filtering serial port io

    I am currently working on a project where I communicate with hardware via a com port on its respective pc(win xp or 7) It is a fairly large project and sifting through the log file can be a bit of pain. This is my current setup. I use putty to do the actual serial communication, and write it to a log file. Then using MinGW Msys I filter it using tail -f "puttyLog" | grep -i "search term" Is there a better way to do this? I mean specifically filtering the input in realtime. Not that mine is terrible, but it still involves having to read from a log and sometimes there have been hangups where it will be delayed for a minute or 2. I have used software in the past with a main io window and then internal filter panels, but can no longer remember or find it.

  • Pin same app multiple times in Windows 7

    I use some programs with command line arguments and like to have shortcuts for launching those programs with those arguments. For example, I keep several Firefox profiles around and like to specify the profile name on the command line. Similarly I have several Eclipse shortcuts with a command line argument specifying the workspace to open. I would like to be able to pin these shortcuts to the start menu or taskbar in Windows 7. The problem I have is that once I've pinned one of these, no other shortcuts which launch the same exe can be launched. I'm also open to suggestions such as a suitable desktop gadget which can contain a bunch of arbitrary shortcuts, yet remain in a fixed position on my desktop somewhere, or some way of adding a secondary taskbar (this was possible in XP).

  • Moving Away from Exchange public folders - Export to file system folder?

    I have a public folder that was used for the wrong reason. Due to some regulations we had to store lots of photos, we're talking at least 7000 photos that are stored based on a location of stores. So for example, each store would send in an email with at least 2 photos of their location, that email would contain their location name or number, and those photos, so there was some sort of organization for it. I would love to move the contents of that public folder to a normal windows folder we could share on a server. Is anything like that possible? Anybody have other ideas?
