  Hi everyone, I'm coding a UITableView with a UISearchBar to search between a list of cities (loaded in the uitableview) Here is my code for searhing: - (void) searchTableView { NSString *searchText = searchBar.text; NSMutableArray *searchArray = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; for (NSDictionary *dictionary in listOfItems) { NSArray *array = [dictionary objectForKey:@"Cities"]; [searchArray addObjectsFromArray:array]; } for (NSString *sTemp in searchArray) { NSRange titleResultsRange = [sTemp rangeOfString:searchText options:NSCaseInsensitiveSearch]; if (titleResultsRange.length > 0) [copyListOfItems addObject:sTemp]; } [searchArray release]; searchArray = nil;} And with this everything works fine, but i need to do something a bit different. I need to search only between items that match pattern Word* and not * Word *. For example if I search "roma", this need to match just with "Roma" or "Romania" and not with "Castelli di Roma".   Hi all, I've got a modal view loaded the following way: ModalViewController *modalController = [[ModalViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"ModalViewController" bundle:nil]; searchController.delegate = self; [self.navigationController presentModalViewController:modalController animated:YES]; [modalController release]; When the modal view appears, "viewDidLoad" is called. When I dismiss the modal view via [self.navigationController dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; the method "viewDidUnload" ISN'T called, but the next time I let the modal view appear, "viewDidLoad" is called again. My problem now is that I'm creating an NSArray in the modal view's "viewDidLoad" - and as I'm fetching the data from the web, I would like to do it only once. But this way, it's fetched every time... Any hints how I could achieve that the data is only fetched once? I would really like to do it in the modal view and not in the parent and provide the array as parameter to the modal view... Thanks!

  Ruby 1.8.6 I have an array containing numerical values. I want to reduce it such that sequences of the same value are reduced to a single instance of that value. So I want a = [1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3] to reduce to [1, 2, 3, 2, 3] As you can see, Array#uniq won't work in this case. I have the following, which works: (a.size - 1).downto(1) { |i| a[i] = nil if a[i - 1] == a[i] } Can anyone come up with something less ugly?

How can I sort by Date with in the objects? result: ( gg, "2012-10-28 01:34:00 +0000", "Church Bells", "pin_red", 1 )( iu, "2008-09-22 17:32:00 +0000", "Birthday Song", "pin_red", 1 )( "my birthday woo hoo", "2012-09-04 19:27:00 +0000", "Birthday Song", "pin_blue", 1 ) The results I am looking for - Sorted Array should look like this. • Separating an Array into a comma seperated string with quotes

  I'm manually building an SQL query where I'm using an Array in the params hash for an SQL IN statement, like: ("WHERE my_field IN('blue','green','red')"). So I need to take the contents of the array and output them into a string where each element is single quoted and comma seperated (and with no ending comma). So if the array was: my_array = ['blue','green','red'] I'd need a string that looked like: "'blue','green','red'" I'm pretty new to Ruby/Rails but came up with something that worked: if !params[:colors].nil? @categories_array = params[:colors][:categories] @categories_string ="" for x in @categories_array @categories_string += "'" + x + "'," end @categories_string.chop! #remove the last comma end So, I'm good but curious as to what a proper and more consise way of doing this would look like?   Hi, What is the best way to do view management in a multiview application? Right now I have this ViewSwitcher method/function that comes from a custom delegate I created. The code is a whole bunch of if else like this MyViewController *c = [[MyViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"MyViewController" bundle:nil]; c.delegate = self; self.myViewController = c; [self.viewHolder insertSubview:c.view atIndex:0]; [c release]; That works fine, but when I visited the function a second time, is there going to be 2 instances of MyViewController now or just 1? How do I unload MyViewController when I switch to another view? Or is there a better way to manage my views? Thanks, Tee

• Sinatra not passing header with redirect

  Hi All I have a simple Sinatra proxy, which when an endpoint is called, will redirect to another endpoint on the same Sinatra proxy. When I make a request with a header, the proxy doesn't seem to pass this header through to the second endpoint when the request redirects in the first.   Regarding over-releasing. Say I have a instance variable defined in Test.h NSString *mystring; In my implementation Test.m I do not initialize the variable mystring anywhere. But I release it in dealloc: -(void)dealloc { [mystring release]; } Is this now over-released? I've been doing the following in dealloc to avoid any issues, however, is this really necessary? -(void)dealloc { if (mystring) [mystring release]; } It seems that [nil release] shouldn't do anything, can someone verify this with class members?

  Using this bootstrap modal extension and animate.css for fun, how can I take a make an easy ajax modal using :remote => true to fill in the modal box? Also, how would I use the bootstrap modal default "submit/cancel" buttons to interact with a form that's loaded? I'm looking for a more dynamic solution instead of hard-html-ing every modal into the page or using a bunch of jquery ajax calls for each dialog. I've done a few quick searches, but they've turned up nil for this particular solution.

  Hi, I don't know if my question will be clear or not, but i'm starting basic stuff with iphone programming, and i'm trying to understand how to go from a screen to another. lets say i have a screen with a "next page" button and another page with a "return" button. I have a general idea of how to do this, but I don't know how to put it together. I think I need an IBAction method for each button, and in each method a navigation controller with pushViewController.   i spent some time with the environment variable CA_COLOR_OPAQUE = 1 and have my findings to share. things that make a CALayer non-opaque (slow, more memory, ...): * contents with alpha (like an NSImage with an icon) * NSImage/CGImage from a pdf as contents (even when the pdf does not contain any alpha and opaque=YES) * backgroundColor = nil * CATextLayer with text in a (because it is contents with alpha) * rounded corners? maybe/sometimes * masksToBounds? not necessarily as we scale most of tree with CATransform3DScale on sublayerTransform i found also these rather irritating non-opaque: * CAGradientLayer that is somewhere down in this scaled tree (even when set all the gradient colors without alpha) * edgeAntialiasingMask != 0 of a layer that is somewhere down in this scaled tree the last two do not make sense to me. why should it be non opaque? what do i see? if anyone has any thoughts on these findings, i'm happy to learn as i couldn't find such a list yet.

  Hey guys I have a simple create method with some validations and whenever the create method fails due to validation errors it re-renders the 'new' action. The problem is in my new action/view I have a local variable that is established in the action and passed to a partial to render some related information to what the user is creating. Now when my create action fails and I try to re-render the 'new' action I'm getting the always awesome undefined method `cover' for nil:NilClass error. What is the best way to handle re-establishing my action's local variables on a render instead of redirecting to the action again and the user losing the data they input?

  I'm working with Ruby on rails 2.3.4 and I'd like to have a link that executes an action when clicked. The relevant part of the routes.rb file looks like this: map.search_filter_relevance "/anuncios/buscar", :controller => 'announcements', :action => 'search_filter_relevance' My view(it's the model's index page) looks like this: <%= link_to 'M&Aacute;S RELEVANTES', search_filter_relevance_path %> And my controller looks like this: def search_filter_relevance raise params.inspect unless params[:announcements].nil? or params[:announcements].empty? @announcements = params[:announcements].order_by_featured end end The problem is that when I click the link I get an error due to some null value in the Show action! I'm not accessing that action at all...why is executing it?

  I have an object that is a subclass of UIView that can be added to a view hierarchy as a subView. I want to be able to remove the UIView from its superView and add it as a subView of the main window and then expand to full screen.   I have added a UITableView prototype Cell into a UIView for an iPad application using StoryBoard in Xcode (targeting iOS6). The problem I'm having is that the labels are not being recognized in my viewController when I try to reference them. In my implementation, I have: - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"dashboardMessage"; UITableViewCell *cell = [_tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; } int row = [indexPath row]; cell.messageSender.text = [_matches valueForKey:@"from"]; } The last line is causing an error: Property 'messageSender' Not Found on Object of type UITableViewCell In the cell's header file I have: @interface DashboardMessageCell : UITableViewCell @property (strong, nonatomic) IBOutlet UILabel *messageSender; @property (strong, nonatomic) IBOutlet UILabel *messageDescr; and the header file is imported into the viewController. I'm lost as to what can be causing the issue, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

• Is the ruby operator ||= intelligent?

  I have a question regarding the ||= statement in ruby and this is of particular interest to me as I'm using it to write to memcache. What I'm wondering is, does ||= check the receiver first to see if it's set before calling that setter, or is it literally an alias to x = x || y This wouldn't really matter in the case of a normal variable but using something like: CACHE[:some_key] ||= "Some String" could possibly do a memcache write which is more expensive than a simple variable set. I couldn't find anything about ||= in the ruby api oddly enough so I haven't been able to answer this myself. Of course I know that: CACHE[:some_key] = "Some String" if CACHE[:some_key].nil? would achieve this, I'm just looking for the most terse syntax.

  Hi, I have to create a hash of the form h[:bill] = ["Billy", "NA", 20, "PROJ_A"] by login where 20 is the cumulative number of hours reported by the login for all task transactions returned by the query where each login has multiple reported transactions. Did I do this in a bad way or this seems alright. h = Hash.new Task.find_each(:include => [:user], :joins => :user, :conditions => ["from_date >= ? AND from_date <= ?
