    I have the following lines of code: $("a.quickview").fancybox({ ajax : { type : "POST", data : 'itemID=' + $(this).attr("name") } }); Which is binding on: <a name="614" class="quickview" href="/URL/index.cfm">quick view</a> I want data to post as itemID=614, but $(this).attr("name") is coming back as undefined?     I have a quadcore processor and I would really like to take advantage of all those cores when I'm running quick simulations. The problem is I'm only familiar with the small Linux cluster we have in the lab and I'm using Vista at home. What sort of things do I want to look into for multicore programming with C or Java?     For example this query: SELECT `variants`.* FROM `variants` INNER JOIN `variant_attributes` ON variant_attributes.variant_id = variants.id WHERE (variant_attributes.id IN ('2','5')) And variant has_many variant_attributes What I actually want to do is to find which variant has BOTH variant attributes with ID = 2 and 5. Is this possible with MySQL? Bonus Question, is there a quick way to do this with Ruby on Rails, perhaps with SearchLogic?

    im moving from a c# VS2008 world into the mac world and I just wanted to know how I can create a quick little command line based application so that I can write many little objective-c apps without worrying about creating an iPhone app or whatever. Which projects do I create in xcode? I can see the Command Line Tool under "Mac os x" but the only options for the type is "C", "C++", "Core Data", "Core Foundation", "Core Services" and "Foundation" but no simple objective c project?   • Memory release from local variable in javascript

    Quick question. I have a js function which gets called on the page every few seconds. It's an ajax update thing. Being a function, I declare local variables. I don't want to use closures or global variables for various reasons. I'd never considered this, but do I need to release/clear the variables at the end of the function to release memory or will js do this for me automatically ? Thanks

  • sIFR load before rest of page?

    Hiya, Is it possible to have sIFR "preload" or load before the rest of the page content? At present it is the last thing to load (due to the text position) and as it's quite an obvious part of the page I get a huge mash-up of text replacement all in a quick flurry which is not very appealing. It looks like the site is having an epileptic fit. Once loaded, all is fine though :) Any work-arounds to the load-fitting? Cheers Hugh

I'm aware there other other questions pertaining to good books for short references of function names, or detailed beginner guides to these systems. I'm looking for something different. I want a book that I can either use as a quick but in-depth (decent write up, not a pocket reference guide) reference to common functions (JOINS, string manipulation, Regular Expressions, etc) while also providing a detailed inner workings explanation on the system itself.

  • Getting can't modify frozen string when using string.insert

    Hi, This is a quick question. I have the following ruby code, which works fine. def add_zeros number, zeros number = number.to_s zeros_to_add = zeros - number.length zeros_to_add.times do number = "0#{number}" end number end But if I replace number = "0#{number}" With number.insert(0, "0") Then I get TypeError: can't modify frozen string, does anyone know why this is?
