  • How to avoid translation tools from messing up HTML tags?

    I always use Google translate and paste back the the results in Vim. But for some reason Google translate also screws up the HTML tags around the content I want to translate. Is there a solution for this? For instance, the double quotes are translated to Chinese-cased double quotes: 'pictures_h2'=>“?????????? Strong and li tags are translated too (well I kinda expected that). P S : IS there any translator which respect HTML tags? or translation plugin for Vim?

  • What are the design patterns for HTML and CSS ?

    I know that is a very embracing question, but I have just started with Ruby on Rails, and still have a long way with CSS and HTML. There are lots of books about CSS and HTML patterns, but I would like to know what is really applied to actual webpages. For example, what's the best way of doing a simple webpage with a lateral menu, a logo on the top, and some text below? Ok, it seems stupid, but there's lot of ways of doing that, or not ? So, how can I learn this patterns and what are the real patterns ? Would appreciate suggestions of books, articles, etc.

  • Flash Overlapping HTML. CSS Problem In IE??

    HELP, this is a very unique problem and I can't for the life of me figure it out. My flash content is overlapping the HTML above it. This only happens if I've just launched IE after being restarted and goes away once I refresh the page. I even added a jQuery $(document).ready function that sets a margin between the html and the flash content to add 1px of space when the page is loaded. It's so hard to figure out, because once I refresh the page, it goes away. Any input GREATLY appreciated.   • How to generate a PDF of dynamic HTML content?

    I am trying to be able to allow users to generate content dynamically, and have that information be in a , and then allow that specific to be exportable to a pdf. I have got Joomla up and running (with the appropriate mySQL and ANT) locally with the Web2PDF extension, but how would I get those running on my domain (hosted by Dreamhost). Are there any other approaches you might recommend. The content is generated by JS and JQuery, and formatted with CSS and HTML. Other considerations: Web2PDF generates a PDF on the entire content, (pulling the entire page's HTML, not just the specific <div>.

    So i am working on a project and need some advice. I have a MySQL database that stores events, i know how to code this functionality in PHP but im just stuck of a few specifics. As the project that I am creating is a timetable, the most important attributes are the day of the event, starting time and finishing time. Once i have read this data from the MYSQL database using my PHP script, how do i go about inserting these events in to a html timetable? Lets say i have record like below in my events table: Event ID = 01 Event Day = Monday Event Start = 12:00 Event End = 14:00 How would I then put that into a html table, bearing in mind that i may have mutiple events for a day?

  • html links & hover events over certain locations on an image.

    So i created a web site a long time ago using a designer alot like frontpage + expression design put together, and since then Ive gotten more into coding, and I'm learning html, CSS, and all that good stuff.. and i have this re-designed header that Ive made here: http://prntscr.com/8zct So what I need to know, is how i can get it so that when a user clicks on one of the links in the header design it will redirect to a page. and also if possible, how to make it so when a user hovers over a link a drop down may appear with other options. As me being quite new to this sort of stuff, could anybody help me achieve this? PS. I'm working in Visual Studio with ASP. but that doesn't change anything about the html and css stuff. just letting you guys know.

  • how to not use relative links in html, but everytime starting from the domain.

    Hi, I'm trying to make a page for use with wordpress and it's almost working, The page I want to use is an HTML page with designated space for it within certain DIVs. I'm encountering the problem of wordpress using the wrong links to kind of everything. I will probably have to change every link to http://www.mydomain.com/sub/folder/image.jpg while there are many links. the page is positioned in a subfolder, there where wordpress is installed on the server. But other pages are positioned in the root, and retrieve all other files directly starting from the domain so writing /sub/folder/image.jpg is enough. Is there a way I could get this to work with html/php files in sub folders as well (so when typing a link like /sub/folder/image.jpg they retrieve http://www.mydomain.com/sub/folder/image.jpg and not http://www.mydomain.com/sub/folder/sub/folder/image.jpg thanks!

  • Can the Browser 'Forward' Button be Set from HTML?

    Example: At the bottom of the StackOver Questions page are a bunch of page numbers (1,2,3...), enclosed in a set of prev and next buttons. Clicking next repeatedly will bring me to, say page 5, at which point I will have: The page's prev button will be set to 'http://stackoverflow.com/questions?page=4' The Back button on my Browser will have the same value. The page's next button will be set to 'http://stackoverflow.com/questions?page=6' The Forward button on my Browser - won't be set to anything. Obviously, if I hit the Back button on the Browser, then Forward will have a value, pointing to the URL for page 5 - but not otherwise. Is there any way, from HTML (plus Javascript), to set the value of the Browser's Forward button? Or is this one of those things that HTML is simply forbidden to do?

    Okay so I've been typing some HTML code for a technology class that I need to satisfy for my Education major. This is what i have for my background: body { background-image:url('islandbeach.jpg'); background-repeat:repeat; background-position:center; background-attachment:fixed; background-size:cover; } Now, I want to make my background transparent or faded so I can see the text and the other image that I have. The background is too colorful to be able to see the words without having to squint. Are there any HTML codes that can do this for me? I am not a pro at this stuff, I've just been following everything my professor has told me to do so please explain stuff in baby steps if you do have an answer. Thank you so so much!

    I recently got a question on one of my client template posts asking me how to bind a select tag’s value to data in client templates. I was surprised not to find anything on the web addressing the problem, so I thought I’d write a short post about it. It really is very simple once you know where to look. You just need to bind the value property of the select tag, like this: <select sys:value="{binding color}"> If you do it from markup like here, you just need to use the sys: prefix. It just works.   • Internet Explorer and margins

To push the tabs down from the userbar I am using margin-top: 35px; However in internet explorer the tabs are completly misaligned(the top of the tabs is where the bottom should be). So I need to use margin-top: -50px; for internet explorer.   • NTBackup Error: C: is not a valid drive

    I'm trying to use NtBackup to back up the C: Drive on a Microsoft Windows Small Business Server 2003 machine and get the following error in the log file: Backup Status Operation: Backup Active backup destination: 4mm DDS Media name: "Media created 04/02/2011 at 21:56" Error: The device reported an error on a request to read data from media. Error reported: Invalid command. There may be a hardware or media problem. Please check the system event log for relevant failures. Error: C: is not a valid drive, or you do not have access. The operation did not successfully complete. I'm using a brand new SATA Quantum Dat-72 drive with a brand new tape (tried a couple of tapes). I carry out the following: Open NTBackup Select Backup Tab Tick the box next to C: Ensure Destination is 4mm DDS Media is set to New Press Start Backup Choose Replace the data on the media and press Start Backup NTBackup tries to mount the media Error Message shows: The device reported an error on a request to read data from media. Error reported: INvalid command. There may be a hardware or media problem. Please check the system event log for relevant failures.   • Windows product key is valid but wont activate

    Last month, I needed to install Windows XP (Pro Version 2002 SP3) from a Reinstallation CD a co-worker gave me, and with a product key the IT team told me to use. Everything installed successfully and I have been using the XP machine for the last 30 days without any problems; however it kept reminding me to activate Windows, and of course, I never did (laziness). It now has me locked out of my machine and won't let me log in until I activate it. So I proceed to the Activation Screen which asks me: Do you want to activate Windows now? I choose "Yes, let's activate Windows over the Internet now.", and click the Next button. It now asks me: Do you want to register while you are activating Windows? I choose "No, I don't want to register now; let's just activate Windows.", and click the Next button. I now see the following screen: Notice how the title reads "Unauthorized product key", and how there are only 3 buttons: Telephone Remind me later Retry Please note that the Retry button is disabled until I enter the full product key that IT gave me, then it enables. However, at no point in time do I see a Next button, indicating that the product key was valid/successful. So instead, I just click the Retry button, and the screen refreshes, this time with a different title Incorrect product key Could something be wrong with the Windows XP reinstallation CD (do they "expire" after a certain amount of time, etc.)? Or is this the normal/typical workflow for what happens when you just have a bad product key? I ask because, after this happened I emailed IT and they supplied me whether several other product keys to try. But every time its the same result, same thing happening over again and again. So I guess it's possible that IT has given me several bad keys, but it's more likely something else is going on here. Any thoughts or ways to troubleshoot? Thanks in advance!
