  • Name user object and user table correctly

    - by Marc
It's maybe simple but I think about this every time I build a new application. How do you name the class for the current user of the application and for the orm class of the user table? Usually I have something like CurrentUser: Logged-in user, stored in session, info for last activity etc User: ORM Class (C# EF CodeFirst, but it doesn't matter) And yes, they could have the same name in different namespaces, but I don't really like that.

  • Ubuntu 12.10 overheats HP dv6t

    - by raul
12.10 in my hp dv6t-6c00 I'm worried about the heat... I followed some advice, and I think that I disabled ATI card, that improved the fan activity and reduced the temperature a little bit. But now fan is starting and stopping all the time, according to the Jupiter applet, temp goes from 45 degrees to 58-59.... (without any load) Should I worry? What can I do to solve this? What is the normal temp?

  • What is SOA ?

    - by llaszews
First, let’s mention what SOA is not: • SOA is not the same thing as web services. Web Services implies the use of standard such as Java/JAX-RPC, .NET or REST. Web Services also implies the use of a WSDL, SOAP, and/or J2EE Connector Architecture (J2EE CA) and HTTP. SOA architectures can be implemented using J2EE CA, XML file transfer or Remote Procedural Call (RPC) over File Transfer Protocol (FTP), TCP/IP, Remote Method Invocation (RMI) or other protocols. In other words, Web Services are a very specific set of technologies. SOA is a concept and can be implemented in many different ways. Some very rudimentary, such as transfering flat files between applications. • SOA will not solve all of your problems. It will make your business more agile, increase business visibility, reduce integration costs and provide better reuse. However, if you don’t need help in these area or expect SOA to cure all of your IT problems, you are looking in the wrong place. • The concepts behind SOA are not new, but SOA is also not mature. SOA as it stands today has really only been around for 5 years. The concepts of standards based protocol handlers, predefined communication schemas and remote method invocation have been around for decades. So, what is SOA? SOA is an architectural blueprint, a way of developing applications, and a set of best practices. SOA is not an ‘out of the box’ solution you buy, install and then have up and running in a matter of months. SOA is a journey to a better way of doing business and the technology architecture to support this better way of doing business. SOA is also a broader set of technologies including more then just web services. Techologies like an Enterpirse Service Bus (ESB), Business Processs Execution Language (BPEL), message queues and Business Activity Monitoring (BAM) all are part of a SOA architecture. • Android edittext right align [closed]

    - by Yoav
I am using my application with hebrew (right-to-left) layout. I have a feature where I open an activity with EditText in it - where I put some text (previously entered by the user) to be edited by him. However, when I do setText I find out that the text is aligned to the left of the edittext instead of of the right. (If I start with empty edittext then it is automatically right aligned when user starts inputting hebrew, but cursor is positioned to the left) (android:gravity="right" does not work)

  • Is there an official Ubuntu free technical support team?

    - by João Pinto
I have found that there is an "Ubuntu Support Team" at https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-helpteam but I am not sure it's official or active. Please note that I am not referring to bug fixing support, I am referring to the broader OS support, with people available to engage users needing support with a problem and drive it to a proper resolution. Is there an official team for this purpose with a clear scope and activity plan ?

  • Wait Statistics in Microsoft SQL Server

    - by KKline
When it comes to troubleshooting in relational databases, there's no better place to start than wait statistics. In a nutshell, a wait statistic is an internal counter that tells you how long the database spent waiting for a particular resource, activity, or process. Since wait statistics are categorized by type, one look will quickly tell the variety of problem that needs your attention, assuming you know meaning for Microsoft's lingo for each wait type....(read more)

  • How can I debug what's slowing down new session logins?

    - by David Planella
For a while, I've had an issue whereby it takes up to 5 minutes from the moment I enter my password in Lightdm's login screen until I can do anything with my computer. That's on Ubuntu 12.04. During that time, I see there is disk activity, but I'm not sure how to figure out what's causing it and whether that is the real cause. I've played around with Bootchart unsuccessfully. Any ideas on what the best way to debug this issue is?

  • Java GNOME bindings, are those a good idea?

    - by Phobia
What do you think of Java's GNOME bindings and I was surprised to know that the latest version of the bindings was released this month and they're backed by a company that uses them, which means that there's a considerable amount of activity in the project, and that it's not going to be ditched anytime soon Is this going to be a second chance for Java on the desktop, since GTK+ is cross platform like swing, but less bloated and more responsive Should I be learning how to develop applications using it? or it's not worth the time?

  • Still prompted for a password after adding SSH public key to a server

    - by Nathan Arthur
I'm attempting to setup a git repository on my Dreamhost web server by following the "Setup: For the Impatient" instructions here. I'm having difficulty setting up public key access to the server. After successfully creating my public key, I ran the following command: cat ~/.ssh/[MY KEY].pub | ssh [USER]@[MACHINE] "mkdir ~/.ssh; cat >> ~/.ssh/authorized_keys" ...replacing the appropriate placeholders with the correct values. Everything seemed to go through fine. The server asked for my password, and, as far as I can tell, executed the command. There is indeed a ~/.ssh/authorized_keys file on the server. The problem: When I try to SSH into the server, it still asks for my password. My understanding is that it shouldn't be asking for my password anymore. What am I missing? • Cannot boot normally, without restarting lightdm (or gdm)

    - by leventov
I had a problem precisely described here: http://www.webupd8.org/2013/01/ubuntu-lightdm-black-screen-when-using.html, black screen with blinking cursor instead of login screen. I've switched to gdm using sudo dpkg-reconfigure gdm -- but faced the same problem, now loading process stops on "red-white Ubuntu dots" (without activity under this splash). And to login, I still need to restart display manager: Ctrl+Alt+F1 and sudo service gdm restart. How to make Ubuntu to boot normally?

  • UML Receptions and AcceptEventActions

    - by Silli
What shall be the relationship between the receptions of a class (was classifier before Aadaam correction) and the AcceptEventActions in the activity describing the behavior of its instances? I understand the former is related to signals reception of the type while the latter is related to runtime ReceiveSignalEvent events of the class instances (objects). But it is not totally clear to me how to express consistency among these constructs.

  • The Secrets of Using SEO - Friendly Directories

In a Search Engine Optimization campaign the most time-consuming part is link-building and preparing the content containing the anchor text links to your pages. Despite the lip service given to this activity by run-of-the-mill optimizers, it makes sense that success over other sites will come with quality relevant content and a mammoth linking effort; this is necessary to reach the Top Five. The long hours and elbow grease of submitting to hundreds of differently-formatted directories pays off when you check the rankings.

  • Finding privacy sensitive keywords

    - by user69914
I have a list of about 80,000 unique words or short phrases. These words and short phrases are associated with other data. I'm trying to create a blacklist so I won't use any of the data associated with privacy sensitive words or short phrases. Example sensitive words or short phrases might be associated with sexual or illicit activity. I know that privacy and sensitivity are in the eye of the beholder, but I'm looking for any established list or solutions of this nature.

  • Which swing testing frameworks are well suited to TDD?

    - by Niel de Wet
I am trying to follow a BDD/TDD approach to developing an IntelliJ IDEA plugin, and in order to do a full acceptance test I want to exercise my plugin through the GUI. I know that I can do it using Window Licker, but looking at the commit log there hasn't been any activity since 2010. I see there are several other frameworks, but which are current and suited for TDD? If you have any experience with swing and TDD, please share those as well.
