  • Best way to force Spring shutdown from a bean?

    - by xcut
My application uses a Spring DefaultMessageListenerContainer to process incoming messages. The main method of the app already registers a shutdown hook. Question is this: what is the best way to force the application context to shut down? If I throw a RuntimeException in the message listener, it is handled by the container, and not passed on. Is calling System.exit acceptable? Do I pass along the ApplicationContext to every class that needs to shut down, so I can call close() on it?

  • How can I get an error or a warning from a PreparedStatement?

    - by Geo
I had an update like this: update table set col1=?,col2=?,col3=? where col4=?; and I filled it up like this: statement.setString(1,"some_value"); statement.setString(2,"some_value"); statement.setString(3,"some_value"); and I forgot to add a fourth value.I did a executeUpdate and of course nothing happened to the database. I spent about 1 hour debugging it, to see where it goes wrong. I then modified my code to print the SQLWarning object returned by the getWarnings method. It always returned null. I even modified the code to the buggy state it was, before I set the fourth parameter, and still no warning. Does anyone know how one can get an error/warning? If it matters, my Connection is set to autoCommit.

  • How to Prevent an Applet from Unloading across web pages?

    - by Francis Shanahan
I have a large applet that takes some 40 seconds to initialize (cabs are cached so ignore download time for this question). The issue is, if the user goes to Page A which launches the applet (single window) and then navigates to page B, the applet is unloaded. If the user goes back to Page A, they incur the 40 seconds init time once again. I'd like to be able to launch the applet, incurring the 40 seconds init time once and only once. The applet needs to reside inside a single browser window (the same window as my web application). In other words, I cannot launch the applet in a popup. Does anyone have any creative ideas around how to prevent the applet unloading?

  • Complete list of Fonts which support

    - by Yan Cheng CHEOK
Currently, if I change the locale setting of my application by Locale.setDefault(Locale.ENGLISH); Locale.setDefault(Locale.SIMPLIFIED_CHINESE); What I understand from this JFreeChart forum is that, I am not using correct font. Once you get the reference of the LegentTitle, you can set it to any font. Apparently, JFreeChart's default is "Tahoma" and it doesn't support Chinese characters. May I know, how I can programmatic determine, as list of available Fonts in my system, which support Chinese? I can hard code it to Serif (It fully support Chinese, doesn't it?), its look n feel doesn't looks good to me. I would like to have more choices.

  • OGNL thread safety

    - by Dewfy
I'm going to reuse OGNL library out of Struts2 scope. I have rather large set of formulas, that is why I would like to precompile all of them: Ognl.parseExpression(expressionString); But I'm not sure if precompiled expression can be used in multi-thread environment. Does anybody knows if it can be used?

I have a string example = " Can somebody provide an algorithm sample code in your reply ", after token and do some i want on string example i have arraylist like : ArrayList <token > arl = " "Can somebody provide ", "code in your ", "somebody provide an algorith", " in your reply" ) "Can somebody provide ", i know position start and end in string test : star = 1 end = 3 " code in your ", i know position stat = 7 end = 10, "somebody provide an algorith", i know position stat = 7 end = 10, "in your reply" i know position stat = 11 end = 14, we can see, some element in arl overlaping :"Can somebody provide "," code in your ","somebody provide an algorith". The problem here is how can i merge overlaping element to recived arraylist like ArrayList result ="" Can somebody provide an algorithm sample code","" in your reply""; Here my code : but it only merge fist elecment if check is overloaping public ArrayList<TextChunks> finalTextChunks(ArrayList<TextChunks> textchunkswithkeyword) { ArrayList<TextChunks > result = (ArrayList<TextChunks>) textchunkswithkeyword.clone(); //System.out.print(result.size()); int j; for(int i=0;i< result.size() ;i++) { int index = i; if(i+1>=result.size()){ break; } j=i+1; if(result.get(i).checkOverlapingTwoTextchunks(result.get(j))== true) { TextChunks temp = new TextChunks(); temp = handleOverlaping(textchunkswithkeyword.get(i),textchunkswithkeyword.get(j),resultSearchEngine); result.set(i, temp); result.remove(j); i = index; continue; } } return result; } Thanks in avadce

  • how to implement a callback in runnable to update other swing class

    - by wizztjh
I have a thread like this public class SMS { class Read implements Runnable { Read(){ Thread th = new Thread(this); th.start(); } @Override public void run() { // TODO Auto-generated method stub while (true){ Variant SMSAPIReturnValue = SMSAPIJava.invoke("ReadSMS"); if (SMSAPIReturnValue.getBoolean()){ String InNumber = SMSAPIJava.getPropertyAsString("MN"); String InMessage = SMSAPIJava.getPropertyAsString("MSG"); } } } } } How do I update the message to another GUI class in the same package(I understand how to put nested class to another package ....). Should I implement a callback function in SMS class? But how? Or should I pass in the Jlabel into the class?

  • Storing Result set into an array

    - by OVERTONE
i know this should be simpel and im probably staring straight at the problem but once again im stuck and need the help of the code gurus. im trying too take one row from a column in jdbc, and put them in an array. i do this as follows: public void fillContactList() { createConnection(); try { Statement stmt = conn.createStatement(); ResultSet namesList = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT name FROM Users"); try { while (namesList.next()) { contactListNames[1] = namesList.getString(1); System.out.println("" + contactListNames[1]); } } catch(SQLException q) { } conn.commit(); stmt.close(); conn.close(); } catch(SQLException e) { } creatConnection is an already defined method that does what it obviously does. i creat my result set while theres another one, i store the string of that column into an array. then print it out for good measure. too make sure its there. the problem is that its storing the entire column into contactListNames[1] i wanted to make it store column1 row 1 into [1] then column 1 row 2 into [2] i know i could do this with a loop. but i dont know too take only one row at a time from a single column. any ideas? p.s ive read the api, i jsut cant see anything that fits.

  • RAD - Websphere Application server won't start

    - by Caroline
I am having issues with RAD7. My server will not start for me today. I am working from home and connected to the VPN. Everything works except my server in RAD. It worked fine yesterday in work and had previously worked when I was at home but that was a few weeks ago. Are there any settings that I should look out for? I have disabled my proxy settings in RAD and turned off everything in my firewall. I can ping all the DBs that the server is connecting to. I have even removed all the projects from the server and it will still not start. It keeps trying and then times out after 300s. Any suggestions?

  • Can I have two names for the same variable?

    - by Roman
The short version of the question: I do: x = y. Then I change x, and y is unchanged. What I want is to "bind" x and y in such a way that I change y whenever I change x. The extended version (with some details): I wrote a class ("first" class) which generates objects of another class ("second" class). In more details, every object of the second class has a name as a unique identifier. I call a static method of the first class with a name of the object from the second class. The first class checks if such an object was already generated (if it is present in the static HashMap of the first class). If it is already there, it is returned. If it is not yet there, it is created, added to the HashMap and returned. And then I have the following problem. At some stage of my program, I take an object with a specific name from the HashMap of the first class. I do something with this object (for example change values of some fields). But the object in the HashMap does not see these changes! So, in fact, I do not "take" an object from the HashMap, I "create a copy" of this object and this is what I would like to avoid.

  • JDO architecture: One to many relationship and cascading deleting

    - by user361897
I’m new to object oriented database designs and I’m trying to understand how I should be structuring my classes in JDO for google app engine, particularly one to many relationships. Let’s say I’m building a structure for a department store where there are many departments, and each department has many products. So I’d want to have a class called Department, with a variable that is a list of a Product class. @PersistenceCapable public class Department { @PrimaryKey @Persistent(valueStrategy = IdGeneratorStrategy.IDENTITY) private String deptID; @Persistent private String departmentName; @Persistent private List<Product>; } @PersistenceCapable public class Product { @PrimaryKey @Persistent(valueStrategy = IdGeneratorStrategy.IDENTITY) private String productID; @Persistent private String productName; } But one Product can be in more than one Department (like a battery could be in electronics and household supplies). So the next question is, how do I not duplicate data in the OOD world and have only one copy of product data in numerous departments? And the next question is, let’s say I delete out a particular product, how do each of the departments know it was deleted?

  • Why is BigDecimal.equals specified to compare both value and scale individually?

    - by bacar
This is not a question about how to compare two BigDecimal objects - I know that you can use compareTo instead of equals to do that, since equals is documented as: Unlike compareTo, this method considers two BigDecimal objects equal only if they are equal in value and scale (thus 2.0 is not equal to 2.00 when compared by this method). The question is: why has the equals been specified in this seemingly counter-intuitive manner? That is, why is it important to be able to distinguish between 2.0 and 2.00? It seems likely that there must be a reason for this, since the Comparable documentation, which specifies the compareTo method, states: It is strongly recommended (though not required) that natural orderings be consistent with equals I imagine there must be a good reason for ignoring this recommendation.

  • adding elements in to the doubly linked list

    - by user329820

  • Barcode reading method?

    - by Atlas
I recently acquired a Metrologic Barcode scanner (USB port), as everyone already knows it works as a keyboard emulator out of the box. Now my question, how do I configure the scanner and my application, so that my app can process the barcode data directly. That is, I don't want the user to focus on a "Text field" and then process the data when the KeyPress event fires.

  • Multiple returns: Which one sets the final return value?

    - by DR
Given this code: String test() { try { return "1"; } finally { return "2"; } } Do the language specifications define the return value of a call to test()? In other words: Is it always the same in every JVM? In the Sun JVM the return value is 2, but I want to be sure, that this is not VM-dependant.

  • StreamTokenizer Iterator Adapter help

    - by alpdog14
I have this StreamTokenizer Iterator Adapter that is suppose to create a Tokenizer Iterator Index Builder then build the index from a STIA wrapped around a StreamTokenizer. I am having trouble implementing the hasNext and Next for my STIA, can anyone help me, here is my class: public class StreamTokenizerIteratorAdapter implements Iterator<Token> { DefaultIndexImpl index; StreamTokenizer source; public StreamTokenizerIteratorAdapter(final StreamTokenizer source) { if (source == null) throw new IllegalArgumentException("source == null"); } @Override public boolean hasNext() { return !index.isEmpty(); } public Token next() { if(!index.isEmpty()) return next(); else return null; } @Override public void remove() { throw new UnsupportedOperationException(); } } Should I be using the source element in the hasNext() and next()?

  • Android: Alignment of four squares

    - by metter
Hello There I am trying to align four equally sized squares on an Android Screen & I have now tried what feels like a million different approaches, yet none of them seem to work :(. What I've got at the moment is the following: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/MasterLayout" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:background="#FFFFFF" <TableRow android:layout_weight="1" android:background="#BBBBBB" android:padding="0dip"> <TableRow android:layout_weight="1" android:padding="0dip"> This basically does the job. However, every one of those four Images has a huge padding above and under it. How do I get rid of that? Or do I need to use a different Layout type alltogether? To help illustrate my problem, here's a picture. On the left is what I got, on the right is what I need. Image Thank you very much! Cheers, Markus!

  • how to implement this observer pattern?

    - by lethal
Hello. I have 4 classes, that describe state diagram. Node, Edge, ComponentOfNode, ComponentOfEdge. ComponentOfEdge compounds from ComponentsOfNode. Node can have 0..n outgoing edges. Edge can have only 2 nodes. Edge should be able to offer ComponentOfNode, but only from nodes that Edge has, in form ComponentOfEdge. The user can change ComponentsOfNode. I need this change spreads to all Edge. Hw to do it? I expect the observer should be used. Can you give me example in pseudocode please?

  • JTable cells not rendering shapes properly

    - by Andrew
    I'm trying to render my JTable cells with a subclassed JPanel and the cells should appear as coloured rectangles with a circle drawn on them. When the table displays initially everything looks OK but then when a dialog or something is displayed over the cells when it is removed the cells that have been covered do not rendered properly and the circles are broken up etc. I then have to move the scroll bar or extend the window to get them to redraw properly. The paintComponent method of the component I'm using to render the cells is below: protected void paintComponent(Graphics g) { setOpaque(true); super.paintComponent(g); Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) g; GradientPaint gradientPaint = new GradientPaint(new Point2D.Double(0, 0), Color.WHITE, new Point2D.Double(0, getHeight()), paintRatingColour); g2d.setPaint(gradientPaint); g2d.fillRect(0, 0, getWidth(), getHeight()); g2d.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_ANTIALIASING, RenderingHints.VALUE_ANTIALIAS_ON); g2d.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_RENDERING, RenderingHints.VALUE_RENDER_QUALITY); Rectangle clipBounds = g2d.getClipBounds(); int x = new Double(clipBounds.getWidth()).intValue() - 15; int y = (new Double(clipBounds.getHeight()).intValue() / 2) - 6; if (level != null) { g2d.setColor(iconColour); g2d.drawOval(x, y, width, height); g2d.fillOval(x, y, width, height); } }
