  • Building a structure/object in a place other than the constructor

    - by Vishal Naidu
I have different types of objects representing the same business entity. UIObject, PowershellObject, DevCodeModelObject, WMIObject all are different representation to the same entity. So say if the entity is Animal then I have AnimalUIObject, AnimalPSObject, AnimalModelObject, AnimalWMIObject, etc. Now the implementations of AnimalUIObject, AnimalPSObject, AnimalModelObject are all in separate assemblies. Now my scenario is I want to verify the contents of business entity Animal irrespective of the assembly it came from. So I created a GenericAnimal class to represent the Animal entity. Now in GenericAnimal I added the following constructors: GenericAnimal(AnimalUIObject) GenericAnimal(AnimalPSObject) GenericAnimal(AnimalModelObject) Basically I made GenericAnimal depend on all the underlying assemblies so that while verifying I deal with this abstraction. Now the other approach to do this is have GenericAnimal with an empty constructor an allow these underlying assemblies to have a Transform() method which would build the GenericAnimal. Both approaches have some pros and cons: The 1st approach: Pros: All construction logic is in one place in one class GenericAnimal Cons: GenericAnimal class must be touched every-time there is a new representation form. The 2nd approach: Pros: construction responsibility is delegated to the underlying assembly. Cons: As construction logic is spread accross assemblies, tomorrow if I need to add a property X in GenericAnimal then I have to touch all the assemblies to change the Transform method. Which approach looks better ? or Which would you consider a lesser evil ? Is there any alternative way better than the above two ?

  • Check if edit is valid for database ms-access

    - by twodayslate
I want to be able to check if I can edit a cell in a database with a new object Example method declaration: something.isValid(Object newObject, row, column); Example cases: If the editing cell stores an Number and I give it a String, the method will return false... If the editing cell has to be different than every other entry and the new object is the same as something else, the method will also return false.... My main goal... I want to check a whole row, and if everything is valid, I will edit the whole row. Right now, the only way I can find out if I can actually edit something is by actually editing it and seeing if I get an error.

  • Releasing from development into production in maven

    - by Bruce
Hi all, I'm confused about the use of maven in development and production environments - I'm sure it's something simple that I'm missing. Grateful for any help.. I set up maven inside eclipse on my local machine and wrote some software. I really like how it's made things like including dependent jars very easy. So that's my development environment. But now I want to release the project to production on a remote server. I've searched the documentation, but I can't figure out how it's supposed to work or what the maven best practice is.. Are you supposed to: a) Also be running maven on your production environment, and upload all your files to your production environment and rebuild your project there? (Something in me baulks at the idea of rebuilding 'released' code on the production server, so I'm fairly sure this isn't right..) b) use mvn:package to create your jar file and then copy that up to production? (But then what of all those nice dependencies? Isn't there a danger that your tested code is now going to be running against different versions of the dependent jars in the production environment, possibly breaking your code? Or missing a jar..?) c) Something else that I'm not figuring out.. Thanks in advance for any help!

  • RAD - Websphere Application server won't start

    - by Caroline
I am having issues with RAD7. My server will not start for me today. I am working from home and connected to the VPN. Everything works except my server in RAD. It worked fine yesterday in work and had previously worked when I was at home but that was a few weeks ago. Are there any settings that I should look out for? I have disabled my proxy settings in RAD and turned off everything in my firewall. I can ping all the DBs that the server is connecting to. I have even removed all the projects from the server and it will still not start. It keeps trying and then times out after 300s. Any suggestions?

  • Reusing an anonymous parameter in a prepared statement

    - by Chris Lieb
I am customizing the insert SQL generated by hibernate and have hit an issue. When Hibernate generates the query by itself, it inserts data into the first two columns of the table, but this causes a database error since all four columns of the table are non-nullable. For the insert to be performed properly, it must insert the same data into two columns of the new record. This means that I need Hibernate to bind the same data to two different parameters in the query (prepared statement) that I am writing. Is there some SQL syntax that allows me to refer to anonymous parameters bound to a prepared statement in an order different from which they are bound? Details REF_USER_PAGE_XREF ---------------------------------------- PK FK1 | NETWORK_ID | VARCHAR2(100) PK FK1 | PAGE_PATH | VARCHAR2(1000) | USER_LAST_UPDT | VARCHAR2(100) | TMSP_LAST_UPDT | DATE insert into REF_USER_ROLE_XREF( NETWORK_ID, PAGE_PATH, TMSP_LAST_UPDT, USER_LAST_UPDT) values ( ?, /* want to insert the same data here */ ?, ?, /* and here */ (select to_char(sysdate, 'DD-MON-YY') from dual) I want to insert the same data into the first and third anonymous parameters.

  • Unwanted automated creation of new instances of an activity class

    - by Marko
I have an activity (called Sender) with the most basic UI, only a button that sends a message when clicked. In the onClickListener I only call this method: private void sendSMS(String msg) { PendingIntent pi = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, new Intent(this, Sender.class), 0); PendingIntent pi = PendingIntent.getActivity(this, 0, myIntent, 0); SmsManager sms = SmsManager.getDefault(); sms.sendTextMessage("1477", null, msg, pi, null); } This works ok, the message is sent but every time a message is sent a new instance of Sender is started on top of the other. If I call sendSMS method three times, three new instances are started. I'm quite new to android so I need some help with this, I only want the same Sender to be on all the time

  • Hibernate Annotation for Entity existing in more than 1 catalog

    - by user286395
    I have a Person entity mapped by Hibernate to a database table in a database catalog "Active". After a period of time, records in this database table in the "Active" catalog are archived/moved to an exact copy of the table in a database Catalog "History". I have the need to retrieve from both the Active and History Catalogs. Is there a better way to model this with Hibernate annotations than making an abstract class that 2 classes extend from. This is what I have now. @MappedSuperclass public abstract class Person { @Id private Integer id; private String name; } @Entity @Table(name="Person", catalog="Active") public class PersonActive extends Person { } @Entity @Table(name="Person", catalog="History") public class PersonHistory extends Person { }

  • Chat client with GWT

    - by user284016
What would be the best way to create a JS chat client with GWT? The bit that I'm having trouble with is the persistence and transfer of the messages. Should I store the messages in a DB and check the db for new messages? Is there a much better way to do this?

  • How to know the line joining two points?

    - by dafero
I have two points and I want to know the line which is joining them. I don't want to draw the line. I want to create a matrix with all the points which formed the line. In the future, I want to solve if two points belong or not to a shape. And this is the first part.

  • Clicking Elements in Android Doesn't Display the Correct Values

    - by Devin
    I apologize if this code looks a bit like a mess (considering the length); I figured I'd just include everything that goes on in my program at the moment. I'm attempting to create a fairly simple Tic Tac Toe app for Android. I've set up my UI nicely so far so that there are a "grid" of TextViews. As a sort of "debug" right now, I have it so that when one clicks on a TextView, it should display the value of buttonId in a message box. Right now, it displays the correct assigned value for the first element I click, but no matter what I click afterwards, it always just displays the first value buttonID had. I attempted to debug it but couldn't exactly find a point where it would pull the old value (to the best of my knowledge, it reassigned the value). There's a good possibility I'm missing something small, because this is my first Android project (of any note). Can someone help get different values of buttonId to appear or point out the error in my logic? The code: package com.TicTacToe.app; import com.TicTacToe.app.R; //Other import statements public class TicTacToe extends Activity { public String player = "X"; public int ALERT_ID; public int buttonId; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); //Sets up instances of UI elements final TextView playerText = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.CurrentPlayerDisp); final Button button = (Button) findViewById(R.id.SetPlayer); final TextView location1 = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.location1); final TextView location2 = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.location2); final TextView location3 = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.location3); final TextView location4 = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.location4); final TextView location5 = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.location5); final TextView location6 = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.location6); final TextView location7 = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.location7); final TextView location8 = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.location8); final TextView location9 = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.location9); playerText.setText(player); //Handlers for events button.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { // Perform action on click if (player.equals("X")){ player = "O"; playerText.setText(player); } else if(player.equals("O")){ player = "X"; playerText.setText(player); } //Sets up the dialog buttonId = 0; ALERT_ID = 0; onCreateDialog(ALERT_ID); showDialog(ALERT_ID); } }); location1.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { //Sets up the dialog buttonId = 1; ALERT_ID = 0; onCreateDialog(ALERT_ID); showDialog(ALERT_ID); } }); location2.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { //Sets up the dialog buttonId = 2; ALERT_ID = 0; onCreateDialog(ALERT_ID); showDialog(ALERT_ID); } }); location3.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { //Sets up the dialog buttonId = 3; ALERT_ID = 0; onCreateDialog(ALERT_ID); showDialog(ALERT_ID); } }); location4.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { //Sets up the dialog buttonId = 4; ALERT_ID = 0; onCreateDialog(ALERT_ID); showDialog(ALERT_ID); } }); location5.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { //Sets up the dialog buttonId = 5; ALERT_ID = 0; onCreateDialog(ALERT_ID); showDialog(ALERT_ID); } }); location6.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { //Sets up the dialog buttonId = 6; ALERT_ID = 0; onCreateDialog(ALERT_ID); showDialog(ALERT_ID); } }); location7.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { //Sets up the dialog buttonId = 7; ALERT_ID = 0; onCreateDialog(ALERT_ID); showDialog(ALERT_ID); } }); location8.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { //Sets up the dialog buttonId = 8; ALERT_ID = 0; onCreateDialog(ALERT_ID); showDialog(ALERT_ID); } }); location9.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { //Sets up the dialog buttonId = 9; ALERT_ID = 0; onCreateDialog(ALERT_ID); showDialog(ALERT_ID); } }); } protected Dialog onCreateDialog(int id){ String msgString = "You are on spot " + buttonId; AlertDialog.Builder builder = new AlertDialog.Builder(this); builder.setMessage(msgString) .setCancelable(false) .setNeutralButton("Ok", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int id) { dialog.cancel(); } }); AlertDialog alert = builder.create(); return alert; } }

  • How to add response headers based on Content-type; getting Content-type before the response is commi

    - by Bozho
I want to set the Expires header for all image/* and text/css. I'm doing this in a Filter. However: before calling chain.doFilter(..) the Content-type is not yet "realized" after calling chain.doFilter(..) the Content-type is set, but so is content-length, which forbids adding new headers (at least in Tomcat implementation) I can use the extensions of the requested resource, but since some of the css files are generated by richfaces by taking them from inside jar-files, the name of the file isn't x.css, but is /xx/yy/zz.xcss/DATB/.... So, is there a way to get the Content-type before the response is committed.

  • Using a model to represent the overall state of a view

    - by James P.
Is there a standard practise for representing the state of a user interface that is not linked to a single Component? For example, a Swing interface could have a series of tabs with a constraint that a single tab should only be displayed once per a given entity type (this could be represented as a HashSet). Or a message could give the result of the last operation carried out. Or a JPanel could be linked to a single entity instance for editing purposes.

  • How to explicitly terminate http connection from server with no response header

    - by Gagandip
I am developing a server simulator for one of my client application. I am using GlassFish server. I have to simulate a http connection terminate condition in my server application. Is there a way by which I can explicitly terminate a connection from server side such that client does not receive any response header. Currently I have tried many options like closing the response outputStream. But in every case a http 200 OK message is delivered to the client application. I would like to consume the http-request and do not want to return anything to the client. I am using a simple conrtroller servlet and had overridden doGet() and doPost() functions.

  • How to use LDAP for authentication in Tomcat with Custom Authorization

    - by djc4
Hello, I'm using JNDIRealm with Tomcat for authentication, which at the moment works fine. However, we do not store any roles in the LDAP, so all authenticated users are not returning any roles. This sends user's to an HTTP 401 failed authorization page. I'd like to assign an "Admin" role to any and all user's who authenticate successfully. Here is my fragment from my web.xml file. SecurityConstraint Resource Resource *.jsp GET POST Admin FORM login.jsp loginError.jsp Admin Should I be using a JAASRealm with custom LoginModule? After the realm calls the authenticate() method and returns success, should I override another method to explicitly set the RolePrincipal to "Admin" so that authorization succeeds? Please help! Thanks, Andy
