• Building a clip area in a UIView from path objects in its subviews

  I'm trying to produce a clipping area in a UIView that's generated from path objects in its subviews. For example, I might have one subview containing a square and another containing a circle. I want to be able to produce a clip in the parent superview that's the union of both these shapes. Can someone explain how to do this? About all I've been able to figure out so far is that: 1 - the superview's drawRect: method is called before its subviews' drawRects are, and 2 - the ContextRef that's accessible in all three instances is the same. Other than that I'm stumped. Thanks, Howard

• java updating text area

  for my application I have to build a little customized time ticker which ticks over after whatever delay I tell it to and writes the new value in my textArea. The problem is that the ticker is running fully until the termination time and then printing all the values. • Security precautions and techniques for a User-submitted Code Demo Area

  Hey folks Maybe this isn't really feasible. But basically, I've been developing a snippet-sharing website and I would like it to have a 'live demo area'. For example, you're browsing some snippets and click the Demo button. A new window pops up which executes the web code. I understand there are a gazillion security risks involved in doing this - XSS, tags, nasty malware/drive by downloads, pr0n, etc. etc. etc. The community would be able to flag submissions that are blatantly naughty but obviously some would go undetected (and, in many cases, someone would have to fall victim to discover whatever nasty thing was submitted). So I need to know: What should I do - security wise - to make sure that users can submit code, but that nothing malicious can be run - or executed offsite, etc? For your information my site is powered by PHP using CodeIgniter. Jack

• Constraining window position to desktop working area

  I want to allow a user to drag my Win32 window around only inside the working area of the desktop. In other words, they shouldn't be able to have any part of the window extend outside the monitor(s) nor should the window overlap the taskbar. I'd like to do it in a way that does cause any stuttering. Handling WM_MOVE messages and calling MoveWindow() to reposition the window if it goes off works, but I don't like the flickering effect that's caused by MoveWindow(). I also tried handling WM_MOVING which prevents the need to call MoveWindow() by altering the destination rectangle before the move actually happens. This resolves the flickering problem, but another issue I run into is that the cursor some times gets aways from the window when a drag occurs allowing the user to drag the window around while the cursor is not even inside the window. How do I constrain my window without running into these issues?

• Navigating back to "Home" from an area (MVC2)

  I have a few areas in my application that are relatively independent (all navigated to from the master page). So, as of now, I am simply using the "default" MVC2 template (the one you get when you create a new MVC2 project). So the menu looks like this: HOME AREA1 AREA2 AREA3 AREA4 .... ABOUT Now, when I first load up the page, I am on the "HOME", and I can click on the ABOUT without issue. I can navigate to any of the areas as well, however, once I navigate to an area page, I cannot get back to my home or about pages (404 not found). When I navigate to them, and click on about, the address bar shows .../AreaX/Home/Home instead of Home/Home as I would expect. I expect that is has something to do with my routing, but Im not completely sure. I have added/changed nothing with the default routing (which is probably the issue!). Any thoughts?

  I want to make WPF window extended on the title area (like Office 2007/2010). I implemented DwmWindow (see DwmTest.zip) where I put required stuff. Commonly, it works fine except one disgusting thing: the window appears as white rectangle (see DwmIssue.png) and after a few second this rectangle disappears and the content of the window is shown (see DwmIssueCorrect.png). This bug is essential only for my window.   Given an integer area A, how can one find integer sides w and h of a rectangle such that w*h = A and w+h is as small as possible? I'd rather the algorithm be simple than efficient (although within reasonable efficiency). What would be the best way to accomplish this? Finding out the prime factors of A, then combining them in some way that tries to balance w and h? Finding the two squares with integer sides with areas closest to A and then somehow interpolating between them? Any other method i'm not thinking of?

If you have a plain html input type=text with a small width eg 20 and then type more characters than can be displayed, it shows the last characters you type.   Hi All, I have a text area field where i need to provide information about the word count when the user enters some text in the field. Length of the field is supposed to be 500 Characters. Initialy it must show min characters:100 | 0 of 500 // 0 of 500 must be in red color and once the user enters come character need to update the count as well. Once the user reaches the count say the min character 100, i need to display min characters:100 | 100 of 500 // 100 of 500 must be in green color. • CSS: reposition element on hover state but maintain clickable area position

  I'm trying to create the effect of a button that 'lifts' from the page when rolled over. Using CSS, I have a block style <a> element that, when hovered, re-positions itself up and to the left 5px, and a shadow is left behind: a { display: inline-block; position: relative; } a:hover { top: -5px; left: -5px; box-shadow: rgba(0,0,0,.2) 5px 5px 2px; } The problem: When the <a> block jumps 5px away from the cursor during the hover, the cursor is no longer actually hovering over the block and the block then jumps back when the cursor is moved only slightly thereafter. How can I maintain the original hover area so that the element doesn't keep jumping back and forth when the cursor is only slightly moved? I'd like to avoid adding superfluous container elements to my code if at all possible.

• Making a mini paint area in AS3/Flex4

  So below is the code I have so far. For now I simply want to make it draw a square and have it show up. Right now when I click the area defined in MXML as <components:PaintArea width="100%" height="100%" id="paint-a"></PaintArea> it shows nothing; however, the actionlistener is getting triggered and an element is being added to the group. Not sure exactly what is going on... perhaps for some reason it doesn't think the element is drawable?   I have a text area wherein i have limited the user from entering more that 15 characters in one line as I want to get the free flow text separated into substrings of max limit 15 characters and assign each line an order number. This is what I was doing in my java class: int interval = 15; items = new ArrayList(); TextItem item = null; for (int i = 0; i < text.length(); i = i + interval) { item = new TextItem (); item.setOrder(i); if (i + interval < text.length()) { item.setSubText(text.substring(i, i + interval)); items.add(item); } else { item.setSubText(text.substring(i)); items.add(item); } } Now it works properly unless the user presses the enter key. Whenever the user presses the enter key I want to make that line as a new item having only that part as the subText. I can check whether my text.substring(i, i + interval) contains any "\n" and split till there but the problem is to get the remaining characters after "\n" till next 15 or till next "\n" and set proper order and subText.

  I am trying to add a scrollable area to my tabbed window. So far I have a CTabFolder in a shell. I have added 5 CTabItems to it and everything works as expected. On one of my CTabItems the contents are too big to fit on the screen so I would like to be able to scroll. The contents is a collection of Groups each containing various widgets. So the CTabFolder is created as follows: CTabFolder tabs = new CTabFolder(shell, SWT.BORDER); tabs.setSimple(false); tabs.setUnselectedImageVisible(false); tabs.setUnselectedCloseVisible(false); tabs.setMinimizeVisible(false); tabs.setMaximizeVisible(false); FormData tabsLayoutData = new FormData(); tabsLayoutData.top = new FormAttachment(0, 5); tabsLayoutData.left = new FormAttachment(0, 5); tabsLayoutData.bottom = new FormAttachment(92, 0); tabsLayoutData.right = new FormAttachment(100, -5); tabs.setLayoutData(tabsLayoutData); Then the CTabItem: CTabItem tab = new CTabItem(tabs, SWT.NONE); tab.setText("Role"); Then the contents: Composite tabArea = new Composite(tabs, SWT.V_SCROLL); tabArea.setLayout(new FormLayout()); tab.setControl(tabArea); So the groups contained within the tab are created with tabArea as the parent and everything appears as you would expect. The problem is though that the vertical scroll bar is always present but doesn't seem to do anything. The contents are chopped off at the bottom of the tabArea composite. Is there anything else I need to do to get the scrolling to work properly?

• need to add secure ftp file upload area to a client's website

  This is a variation on a previous question as I am having tons of trouble finding answers in all my relentless online searches. Am designing a website for an architecture firm. They want their clients to be able to upload files to them, through a link on their site, via ftp. They also want to have a sign in for their clients, and ensure the uploads are secure. I can figure out how to make a form that has a file upload area - but just don't understand the ftp and the secure part... I understand html, css and a bit of JQuery; the rest is still very challenging to me. Have found something called net2ftp that claims to do what I'm looking for - but the even the installation instructions (for administrators, here: http://www.net2ftp.com/help.html) confuse me. Do I need a MySQL database? Where do I put in Admin password they refer to? It goes on... Is there anything "easier" out there that anyone knows of? I have read that I should be Googling "file managers" - but don't know if these can be embedded in a client's website. I even need to understand of what happens to said file, and where it ends up, when client clicks the upload link. Oh - I am so in over head on this one.

  I'm trying to add a UIButton to a UIView, but am having some trouble with getting it to respond to touches. I use this in the following way: UIButton * anotherButton = [self niceSizeButtonWithTag:1]; [anotherButton setImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"image" withExtension:@"png"] forState:UIControlStateNormal]; [anotherButton setCenter:CGPointMake(middleOfView)]; [aView addSubview:anotherButton]; I create a lot of buttons like this, hence the reason for the method. The buttons are always created and added to the subview perfectly. I can see the image and they're in the correct position. The problem is that they only respond to touches in a tiny strip. In this attached image, The yellow shows the whole frame of the button, The red shows the area that will respond to touches. The grey shows a section of the view the button is added to. If anyone could shed some light on why this is happening, it would be really useful.

• Finding out max available print area

  I'm trying to find out max available area on my printer. I've printed a simple rectangle trying out different boundary variables. My question is, why doesn't first two work correctly? They don't print a full rectangle on the paper, only the left and top sides are drawn. Why does only the third one prints a full rectangle? I was under the impression of that all three should be working correctly. What am I missing? • Prevent WPF control from expanding beyond viewable area

  I have an Items Control in my user control with a scroll viewer around it for when it gets too big (Too big being content is larger than the viewable area of the user control). The problem is that the grid that it is all in just keeps expanding so that the scroll viewer never kicks in (unless I specify an exact height for the grid).
