• Why is my SSH session timing out in less than a minute?

  Within a minute of connecting to my remote Linux server through SSH, my session times out and I cannot contact the server until a few seconds have passed. Meanwhile, I'm connected to other servers without interruption. This is only happening when I establish connection from an hotel wireless AP. When I connect from my phone's Internet, the problem does not occur. Does anyone know what might be causing these unusual timeouts?

• Is there a way to setup a hotspot with a domain name rather than IP address?

  Basically I've setup a hotspot and its currently being accessed through an IP address. I'd like to use a hostname instead. This is for internal use only, meaning the ODROID device which is being used to as Access Point is connected to the internet via ethernet and only a few devices will access the AP. My setup details: Arch Linux on an ODROID U3 device, using hostapd and dhcp server. PS: I'm quite inexperienced with network so I might be missing something obvious here. Thanks in advance

• Unable to share internet by using HOSTEDNETWORK after installing AVAST recently

  I was able to share my laptop's internet with my smartphone by using this command "netsh wlan start hostednetwork". But when I installed Avast in my Windows 8 OS, I am able to start the hostednetwork as before and my smartphone also finds the virtual AP but still I can't use internet on the smartphone. It's like the internet sharing has been disabled by the Antivirus. How do I tell Avast that its okay to use the hostednetwork?

• No Wi-Fi after system reboot

  Something strange is happening... I've installed a Wi-Fi card into my Ubuntu Server 11.04 machine. To configure it I do the following: sudo vi /etc/network/interfaces add: iface wlan0 inet dhcp wpa-driver wext wpa-ssid "Sweet Home" wpa-ap-scan 1 wpa-proto WPA wpa-pairwise TKIP wpa-group TKIP wpa-key-mgmt WPA-PSK wpa-psk <A KEY> auto wlan0 then: $ sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart * Running /etc/init.d/networking restart is deprecated because it may not enable again some interfaces * Reconfiguring network interfaces... ssh stop/waiting ssh start/running, process 1522 ssh stop/waiting ssh start/running, process 1590 And my machine successfully gets an ip to my wireless adapter. But after reboot it doesn't get any ip in wireless network. To fix it I run /etc/init.d/networking restart again and all is fine again - it gets an ip. I understand that I simply should add it to my startup scripts to make it work properly, but maybe there is a better way to configure it?

• Can't find Localhost files

  Hope you can help. This is my first time trying Ubuntu/Linux. I am logged in as root I have downloaded and installed LAMP and PHPMYADMIN. I get the test page under localhost say that It works and is installed Correctly. I have also put my files in the /var/www. they are PHP files When I put the address localhost/(page name.php) I get an error saying Not Found The requested URL /index.php was not found on this server. Apache/2.2.22 (Ubuntu) Server at localhost Port 80 I Have put the files in the wrong folder?? If I look in the "/etc/ap[ache2/sites-available/default", It tells my my DocumentRoot is /var/www Would love somehelp on this please Many thanks GF

• Turn your laptop into a wireless Access Point with Windows 7!

  Windows 7 offers a very cool feature where you can connect multiple devices to any wired and wireless network connection (hotel, cable, 3G, UMTS, EDGE, WIFI, RJ45, Ethernet, etc.) by turning your own laptop into a wireless AP (Access Point) to relay those devices not directly connected to the internet. For this just enter these two commands to an elevated (right click on CMD.EXE, run as administrator): netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=YOURFRIENDLYSSID key=SOMEPASSWORD netsh wlan start hostednetwork At this point, if Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) is setup, anyone can connect to your SoftAP (if they know the PWD of course) and the traffic will be sent through whatever adapter you want.   I've been searching for work, and so far it's very hard for me to even get a call back. So, I'm looking at adding things to my resume. I know a resume doesn't need to be over 2 pages. I have the basics: Objective/personal info General skills (languages known, etc) Work experience Some things I'm considering adding to it: My college education (though I don't have a degree) Awards given for programming skills in high school (curriculum contests and AP test scores) Open source projects? Would any of these 3 items look tacky? And I only have about 1.5 years of work experience, but I've been programming since I was 13. Is there anything else I can add to my resume that would give me a better chance of getting my foot in the door?

• Wireless speed drops over time and doesn't get up if not reconnected

  I am using Ubuntu 12.10 64bit and I have a Asus PCE-N15 wireless card(in PCI-E slot). The problem is that first when I connect to my WiFi network the speed is just fine, and actually my link speed never drops, it shows a solid 150mb/s+ link speed and good signal. But the download and upload speeds drop dramatically after couple minutes of use and I have to reconnect to fix this. Network is type IEEE 802.11bgn and uses WPA2/AES encryption. I don't have similar problems on the windows side, and the network is working fine on every other device. iwconfig shows this: wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:"WLAN-AP" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.412 GHz Access Point: 00:1E:AB:05:EF:31 Bit Rate=300 Mb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm Retry long limit:7 RTS thr=2347 B Fragment thr:off Encryption key:off Power Management:off Link Quality=61/70 Signal level=-49 dBm Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:2 Missed beacon:0 So the question is: Is there a way to fix this? • Hostapd to connect laptop to Android

  i am trying to set up my laptop as an access point for my Android to use WiFi, so i knew that ubuntu sets the network as Ad-Hoc which is not discoverable by android, So i tried the method explained here -which i found on many other websites- but when i run hostapd.conf this error appears : nl80211: Failed to set interface wlan0 into AP mode nl80211 driver initialization failed. • 3.5.0-18 kernel update broke BCM43228

  After updating the kernel to 3.5.0-18 the Broadcom BCM43228 wireless card of my Acer Aspire One 756 has stopped working properly. The card often refuses to connect to my AP, and if it connects it behaves very unstable. I have already reinstalled the drivers, as recommended by googling around. As far as I can tell the only driver that supports my card is the bcmwl package. I found one solution saying I should install broadcom-sta using module assistant, however I could not get this to install and apparently broadcom-sta and bcmwl are effectively the same driver? Is anyone experiencing similar issues? Is it possible to just downgrade to the previous kernel version?

  I'm curious what software (package, utility in bin's) handle interface parameters in /etc/network/interfaces and decides to connect to the specified wireless net. I use wifi usb stick dlink DWL-110 attached to wlan0 with ndiswrapper driver. Sometimes wlan0 sees my wifi net - iwlist wlan0 scan shows it, but does not connect to it - iwconfig shows AP Not-Associated, until I replug the stick. Neither reinserting module with ndiswrapper, not ifdown/ifup or restarting networking helps. That is why I need to know what OS entity handles connection/reconnection to wireless net. EDIT: shame on me, I use wireless-tool package with wep encryption

I was tring to solve over heating problem. then by mistakely i install 2 packages from s/w center. when I boot up PC next time it is giving me error like that "system is running in low graphics.. " and I'mm not ablle to boot any more. when I checked newly install packages by command "cat /var/log/dpkg.log | grep "\install\"" then I found they are named as, ebtables:amd64 2.0.10.4-2ubuntu2 and ureadahead:amd64 0.100.0-16 I triend removing those packages by command "sudo ap-get remove ebtables:amd64" but it is giving error... so please buddy help me if u can ..
