  • Make part of layout invisible and the other part visible

    - by JonF
I would like to make a LinearLayout that was created from xml invisible, and another LinearLayout visible to replace it. The replacement layout starts out as invisible. When I make the originally visible layout invisible, it still leaves space for it on the screen. How can I refresh the screen so that space is gone?

  • Android Layout question

    - by Nils
Hello, I need to create a map with items on it (the map consists of a drawable object, which represents a room) and I thought about using buttons with background images for the items so that they are clickable. I guess the AbsoluteLayout fits here the best, but unfortunately it's deprecated. What layout would you recommend me for this kind of application ? Is there another layout which supports X/Y coordinates ?

  • Display different layout according to Facebook connection status in Android

    - by Rom Freiman
I'm building an Android application where I want users to connect by their facebook details. According to my design, when the application starts first time, I want to display a layout with LOGIN facebook button. After the user will perform login for the first time, I dont want to display this layout/activity again - when the application would be relanched, I want t display another (home) screen, and not the LOGIN one. How should I implement this functionality? Thanks

  • JPanel's child components paint/layout problem

    - by Tom Brito
I'm having a problem that when my frame is shown (after a login dialog) the buttons are not on correct position, then in some miliseconds they go to the right position (the center of the panel with border layout). When I make a SSCCE, it works correct, but when I run my whole code I have this fast-miliseconds delay to the buttons to go to the correct place. Unfortunately, I can't post the whole code, but the method that shows the frame is: public void login(JComponent userView) { centerPanel.removeAll(); centerPanel.add(userView); centerPanel.revalidate(); centerPanel.repaint(); frame.setVisible(true); } What would cause this delay to the panel layout? (I'm running everything in the EDT) -- update In my machine, this SSCCE shows the layout problem in 2 of 10 times I run it: import java.awt.BorderLayout; import javax.swing.JButton; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.JPanel; import javax.swing.SwingUtilities; public class TEST { public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception { SwingUtilities.invokeAndWait(new Runnable() { @Override public void run() { System.out.println("Debug test..."); JPanel btnPnl = new JPanel(); btnPnl.add(new JButton("TEST")); JFrame f = new JFrame("TEST"); f.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); f.getContentPane().setLayout(new BorderLayout()); f.getContentPane().add(btnPnl); f.pack(); f.setSize(800, 600); f.setVisible(true); System.out.println("End debug test!"); } }); } } The button first appers in the up-left, and then it goes to the center. Please, note that I'm understand, not just correct. Is it a java bug? --update OK, so the SSCCE don't show the problem with you that tried till now. Maybe it's my computer performance problem. But this don't answer the question, I still think Java Swing is creating new threads for make the layout behind the scenes.

  • Help identify the layout used here?

    - by Matt Huggins
I'm working on a layout that comprises some of the same features seen in the screenshot below, but I'm running into a bit of confusion. Can someone help me understand a few points for the screenshot below? What is the root layout used here? How do I get the button bar to remain at the bottom, while the center section scrolls when it is long enough? Similar to the Ok/Cancel buttons seen here, how do I make them each 50% width (minus some margin and padding)?

  • How to create a generic Android XML layout for all activities

    - by zabawaba
I have an application that needs the same items [5 buttons acting as tabs] in every screen. Is it possible to create a "base XML layout" that has these 5 buttons and then have all the other XML files extend from the bas layout in some way so that I don't have to have multiple buttons that will ultimately have the same functionality. Is there a better approach to this problem that can be supported by API 9

  • Android: Use XML Layout for List Cell rather than Java Code Layout (Widgets)

    - by Stephen Finucane
    Hi, I'm in the process of making a music app and I'm currently working on the library functionality. I'm having some problems, however, in working with a list view (In particular, the cells). I'm trying to move from a simple textview layout in each cell that's created within java to one that uses an XML file for layout (Hence keeping the Java file mostly semantic) This is my original code for the cell layout: public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { String id = null; TextView tv = new TextView(mContext.getApplicationContext()); if (convertView == null) { music_column_index = musiccursor.getColumnIndexOrThrow(MediaStore.Audio.Media.TITLE); musiccursor.moveToPosition(position); id = musiccursor.getString(music_column_index); music_column_index = musiccursor.getColumnIndexOrThrow(MediaStore.Audio.Media.DISPLAY_NAME); musiccursor.moveToPosition(position); id += "\n" + musiccursor.getString(music_column_index); music_column_index = musiccursor.getColumnIndexOrThrow(MediaStore.Audio.Albums.ALBUM); musiccursor.moveToPosition(position); id += "\n" + musiccursor.getString(music_column_index); tv.setText(id); } else tv = (TextView) convertView; return tv; } And my new version: public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { View cellLayout = findViewById(R.id.albums_list_cell); ImageView album_art = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.album_cover); TextView album_title = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.album_title); TextView artist_title = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.artist_title); if (convertView == null) { music_column_index = musiccursor.getColumnIndexOrThrow(MediaStore.Audio.Albums.ALBUM); musiccursor.moveToPosition(position); album_title.setText(musiccursor.getString(music_column_index)); //music_column_index = musiccursor.getColumnIndexOrThrow(MediaStore.Audio.Media.DISPLAY_NAME); //musiccursor.moveToPosition(position); music_column_index = musiccursor.getColumnIndexOrThrow(MediaStore.Audio.Media.TITLE); musiccursor.moveToPosition(position); artist_title.setText(musiccursor.getString(music_column_index)); } else{ cellLayout = (TextView) convertView; } return cellLayout; } The initialisation (done in the on create file): musiclist = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.PhoneMusicList); musiclist.setAdapter(new MusicAdapter(this)); musiclist.setOnItemClickListener(musicgridlistener); And the respective XML files: (main) <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <ListView android:id="@+id/PhoneMusicList" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" /> <TextView android:id="@android:id/empty" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="0dip" android:layout_weight="1.0" android:text="@string/no_list_data" /> </LinearLayout> (albums_list_cell) <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/albums_list_cell" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <ImageView android:id="@+id/album_cover" android:layout_alignParentLeft="true" android:layout_alignParentTop="true" android:layout_width="50dip" android:layout_height="50dip" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/album_title" android:layout_toRightOf="@+id/album_cover" android:layout_alignParentTop="true" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/artist_title" android:layout_toRightOf="@+id/album_cover" android:layout_below="@+id/album_title" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="15dip" /> </RelativeLayout> In theory (based on the tiny bit of Android I've done so far) this should work..it doesn't though. Logcat gives me a null pointer exception at line 96 of the faulty code, which is the album_title.setText line. It could be a problem with my casting but Google tells me this is ok :D Thanks for any help and let me know if you need more info!

  • When installing Ubuntu (with Unity), I can't select the keyboard layout.

    - by Pascual
I can select language, (I wanted English), but I wanted to select "international (with dead tilde)" and I cannot find an option to do it unlike Xubuntu or Lubuntu. Usually, in previous editions, before unity, there were two columns ... one for selecting language and other to select the kind of layout and there was a box so you can test the keyboard. Now, there is only one column and I need the dead tilde. How can I do it? Why is Ubuntu hiding these options? Thanks

  • What are the default layout settings in gnome-terminal?

    - by Exeleration-G
I want to replace gnome-terminal fully by lxterminal. I've started by changing the default terminal emulator. So I ran sudo update-alternatives --config x-terminal-emulator, and chose lxterminal. After that, I ran dconf-editor and went to org - gnome - desktop - applications - terminal and changed gnome-terminal to lxterminal and removed the -x in the exec arg part. The only problem though, is that by default, lxterminal doesn't look like gnome-terminal. What are gnome-terminal's default layout settings? I'm especially looking for the hexadecimal colour codes for both text and background.

  • Custom Android layout that handles its children

    - by Gromix
Hi, I'm trying to create a custom Android control to emulate a LinearLayout with a fancier display. Basically, I want the exact behaviour of a LinearLayout, but also borders, a background, ... I could do it all in XML (works great) but since I have dozens of occurences in my app it's getting hard to maintain. I thought it would be nicer to have something like this: /* Main.xml */ <MyFancyLayout> <TextView /> <ImageView /> </MyfancyLayout> My problem is, I don't want to have to re-write LinearLayout, so is there a way to only change its appearance? I got as far as this, which doesn't work... can anyone think of a better approach? /* MyFancyLayout.xml */ <merge> ... the complex hierarchy to make it look like what I want ... with background attributes etc </merge> and /* MyFancyLayout.java */ public class MyFancyLayout extends LinearLayout { // inflate the XML // move all the real children (as given by main.xml) to the inflated layout // do I still need to override onMeasure and onLayout? } Cheers! • TextBlock Wrapping in WPF Layout

    - by Joel Martinez
Hi, I'm trying to figure out how to do something similar to the twitter silverlight app that Scott Guthrie demoed recently in WPF: http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2010/03/18/building-a-windows-phone-7-twitter-application-using-silverlight.aspx Unfortunately, I seem to be having a hard time understanding the wpf layout system in some fundamental way. I've been trying various combinations of horizontalalignment/stretch, width/auto at different levels in the hierarchy, and I can't seem to get the "message" textblock to wrap without assigning an explicit width. All I want is for the text to wrap based on the width of the window (or whatever is the parent container). <Window x:Class="TweeterWin.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300" Loaded="Window_Loaded"> <ScrollViewer Height="auto" > <ListBox Name="tweetList" Height="auto" > <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal" Height="132"> <Image Source="{Binding Avatar}" Height="73" Width="73" VerticalAlignment="Top" Margin="0,10,8,0"/> <StackPanel > <TextBlock Text="{Binding User}" TextWrapping="Wrap" Foreground="#FFC8AB14" FontSize="15" /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Message}" TextWrapping="Wrap" FontSize="10" /> </StackPanel> </StackPanel> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> </ListBox> </ScrollViewer> </Window> As a follow up, if anyone can send any links my way that might help me understand some of these layout fundamentals. I think I understand the main layout options (canvas, grid, stackpanel, etc.), but I dont' understand why I can't get this textblock to wrap in this scenario. Thanks!

  • Android: Creating a Scrollable Layout

    - by MD
I'm trying to create a "scrollable" layout in Android. Even using developers.android.com, though, I feel a little bit lost at the moment. I'm somewhat new to Java, but not so much that I feel I should be having these issues--being new to Android is the bigger problem right now. The layout I'm trying to create should scroll in a sort of a "grid". I THINK what I'm looking for is the Gallery view, but I'm really lost as to how to implement it at the moment. I want it to "snap" to center the frame, like in the actual Gallery application. Essentially, if I had a photo gallery of 9 pictures, the idea is to scroll between them up/down AND side to side, in a 3x3 manner. Doesn't need to dynamically adjust, or anything like that, I just want a grid I can scroll through. I'm also not asking for anyone to give me explicit code for it--I'm trying to learn, more than anything. But pointing me in the right direction for helpful layout programming resources would be greatly appreciated, and confirming if it's a Gallery view I'm looking for would also be really helpful. EDIT: To clarify, the goal is to have ONE item on screen at a time. If you scroll between one item and the next, the previous one leaves the screen, and the new one snaps into place. So if it were a photo gallery, each spot on the grid would take up the entire screen size, approximately, and would be flung out of the viewable area when you slide across to the next photo, in either direction. (Photos are just an example for illustration purposes)

  • NotFoundException in layout editor for Android?

    - by borg17of20
I'm trying to extend a RelativeLayout object and include an embedded SurfaceView object that uses a png file in my /res/drawable folder as its background but I keep getting an error in the XML Layout editor. See the following code: public class StopMotionRelativeLayout extends RelativeLayout { private Context myContext; private SurfaceView surfaceView1; private BitmapFactory.Options myBitmapOptions; private final android.view.ViewGroup.LayoutParams params = new LayoutParams(LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, android.view.ViewGroup.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT); public StopMotionRelativeLayout(Context context, AttributeSet attrs) { super(context, attrs); myContext = context; this.setBackgroundColor(Color.GREEN); //init images surfaceView1 = new SurfaceView(myContext, attrs); surfaceView1.setVisibility(View.INVISIBLE); this.addView(surfaceView1, params); } @Override protected void onMeasure(int widthMeasureSpec, int heightMeasureSpec) { super.onMeasure(widthMeasureSpec, heightMeasureSpec); myBitmapOptions = new Options(); myBitmapOptions.outWidth = widthMeasureSpec; myBitmapOptions.outHeight = heightMeasureSpec; surfaceView1.setBackgroundDrawable(new BitmapDrawable(BitmapFactory.decodeResource(this.myContext.getResources(), R.drawable.golf1, myBitmapOptions))); } } I get the following error: NotFoundException: Could not find drawable resource matching value 0x7F020002 (resolved name: golf1) in current configuration. I have seen this type of error may times now and it always happens when I try to load something from a resource file via code and not XML. Curiously, this error does not stop me from compiling the app, and the app runs without error in the emulator. I'd like to get back the use of my layout editor though... Please help. UPDATE: Here is the layout XML <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <com.games.test.StopMotionRelativeLayout android:id="@+id/RelativeLayout01" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> </com.games.test.StopMotionRelativeLayout>

  • Layout resize animation

    - by Marcin Sosna
    I have layout: <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical" > <LinearLayout android:id="@+id/main_fragment_container" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <RelativeLayout android:id="@+id/left_fragments_layout" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1" android:background="#00F"> </RelativeLayout> <RelativeLayout android:id="@+id/graph_fragment_container" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="2.2" android:background="#666"> </RelativeLayout> <RelativeLayout android:id="@+id/right_fragments_layout" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1" android:background="#00F"> </RelativeLayout> When I set visibility to GONE on left and right fragment container then they are animated to left and right. • Javascript Graph Layout Engine

    - by GJK
I'm looking for a Javascript library/engine that can do graph layouts. (And when I say layouts, I mean logically position vertices nicely.) The graphs I'm working with are all m-ary trees. M is usually no more than 5 or 6, but it can be greater in some cases. I do have something that I use now, Graphviz's node program, and it works perfectly. The problem is, when running a web app, I have to send a request to the server every time I want a layout. Preferably, I would like something written in Javascript that can be quickly run on the client side. All it needs to do is provide layout information (relative positioning and whatnot). I don't need it to draw to a canvas or use SVG or anything, all I'm interested in is the layout. Library use like jQuery or RaphaelJS is fine by me. I'll work with it. I'm just looking for something to speed things along a little. Also, I'd consider writing my own if I could find a nice description of an algorithm to do the layouts. But I really don't want to spend too much time. I have something that works now, so getting it on the client side is just a bonus, not a necessity.

  • Layout does not show up after Activity launch

    - by Peter
    I have an activity which invokes an onItemClick and launches another activity. This activity has a static layout(for testing purposes), but only thing I see is black(I even set the text color to white to check it out). My listener list.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() { public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> arg0, View arg1, int arg2,long arg3) { //create new intent Intent item = new Intent(getApplicationContext(), Item.class); // Close all views before launching logged //item.putExtra("name", ((TextView)arg1).getText()); //item.putExtra("uid", user_id); item.addFlags(Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP); startActivity(item); // Close Login Screen onPause(); } }); My activity is here(not much to do it just launches the layout) public class Item extends Activity{ protected SQLiteDatabase myDB=null; protected String name; protected int uid; TextView yeart,year,itemname,comment,commentt,value,valuet,curr,currt; protected void onStart(Bundle savedInstanceState){ super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.herp); /*name=getIntent().getStringExtra("name"); uid=Integer.parseInt(getIntent().getStringExtra("uid")); itemname=(TextView) findViewById(R.id.itemName);//itemname.setText(name); year=(TextView) findViewById(R.id.itemYear); yeart=(TextView) findViewById(R.id.year); comment=(TextView) findViewById(R.id.itemComments); commentt=(TextView) findViewById(R.id.comments); curr=(TextView) findViewById(R.id.itemcurrent); currt=(TextView) findViewById(R.id.current); value=(TextView) findViewById(R.id.itemValue); valuet=(TextView) findViewById(R.id.value);*/ Database openHelper = new Database(this); myDB = openHelper.getReadableDatabase(); myDB=SQLiteDatabase.openDatabase("data/data/com.example.login2/databases/aeglea", null, SQLiteDatabase.OPEN_READONLY); }} And finally my XML layout <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" android:orientation="vertical" > <TextView android:id="@+id/itemName" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="asdasd" android:gravity="center" android:layout_marginBottom="10px" android:textAppearance="?android:attr/textAppearanceLarge" android:textColor="#fff" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/current" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Current" android:textSize="20dp" android:textStyle="bold" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/itemcurrent" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="asdasd" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/year" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Year" android:textSize="20dp" android:textStyle="bold" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/itemYear" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="asdasd" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/value" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Value" android:textSize="20dp" android:textStyle="bold" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/itemValue" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="TextView" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/comments" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Comments" android:textSize="20dp" android:textStyle="bold" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/itemComments" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="TextView" /> </LinearLayout>

  • CSS- How to align background image over bottom border line? Jsfiddle included

    - by John Robinson
I have an image I am trying to display over the top of a bottom border, but it is being arranged behind the bottom border element (in this example, named "divider"), and I can't get it to align correctly. I would like the image to be displayed in the middle of the the border element and over the top of it. Vertically, I am trying to get the 1px line on the left and right side of the image to align with the 1px border to appear as if it is one element. Here is the code: .divider { border-bottom: 1px solid #c3c3c3; clear: both; display: block; margin-bottom: 20px; padding-top: 20px; width: 100%; } .sidearrow { background: url(http://s16.postimage.org/sbf7v9n75/sidearrow.png) 50% 14px no-repeat; width: 100%; height: 25px; }? <p>Here is some content above</p> <div class="sidearrow"></div> <div class="divider"></div> <p>Here is some content below</p>? And the jsfiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/F5xjx/2/ Any ideas how to get this to work? Thanks in advance.

  • Why did 13.10 break my custom keyboard layout?

    - by con-f-use
I was using a custom keyboard layout. Basically I modified the us-mac layout to fit my ideal of a math-heavy version of the regular us layout that also throws German umlauts into mix. It went well and worked marvelously for 6 consecutive versions of Ubuntu. Today's version Upgrade (from 13.04 to 13.10) broke that streak. I now have the usual crappy Macintosh-Layout. Now xkb just ignores my layout and all of the other changes I make in /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/us (tried to switch '0' and '9' everywhere and rebooted - no effect). Why is that? I suspect I have to do an extra step now for the changes to take effect or something like that. Anyone care to point me in the right direction?
