  • Why is calling close() after fopen() not closing?

    - by Richard Morgan
I ran across the following code in one of our in-house dlls and I am trying to understand the behavior it was showing: long GetFD(long* fd, const char* fileName, const char* mode) { string fileMode; if (strlen(mode) == 0 || tolower(mode[0]) == 'w' || tolower(mode[0]) == 'o') fileMode = string("w"); else if (tolower(mode[0]) == 'a') fileMode = string("a"); else if (tolower(mode[0]) == 'r') fileMode = string("r"); else return -1; FILE* ofp; ofp = fopen(fileName, fileMode.c_str()); if (! ofp) return -1; *fd = (long)_fileno(ofp); if (*fd < 0) return -1; return 0; } long CloseFD(long fd) { close((int)fd); return 0; } After repeated calling of GetFD with the appropriate CloseFD, the whole dll would no longer be able to do any file IO. I wrote a tester program and found that I could GetFD 509 times, but the 510th time would error. Using Process Explorer, the number of Handles did not increase. So it seems that the dll is reaching the limit for the number of open files; setting _setmaxstdio(2048) does increase the amount of times we can call GetFD. Obviously, the close() is working quite right. After a bit of searching, I replaced the fopen() call with: long GetFD(long* fd, const char* fileName, const char* mode) { *fd = (long)open(fileName, 2); if (*fd < 0) return -1; return 0; } Now, repeatedly calling GetFD/CloseFD works. What is going on here?

  • Haskell lazy I/O and closing files

    - by Jesse
I've written a small Haskell program to print the MD5 checksums of all files in the current directory (searched recursively). Basically a Haskell version of md5deep. All is fine and dandy except if the current directory has a very large number of files, in which case I get an error like: <program>: <currentFile>: openBinaryFile: resource exhausted (Too many open files) It seems Haskell's laziness is causing it not to close files, even after its corresponding line of output has been completed. The relevant code is below. The function of interest is getList. import qualified Data.ByteString.Lazy as BS main :: IO () main = putStr . unlines =<< getList "." getList :: FilePath -> IO [String] getList p = let getFileLine path = liftM (\c -> (hex $ hash $ BS.unpack c) ++ " " ++ path) (BS.readFile path) in mapM getFileLine =<< getRecursiveContents p hex :: [Word8] -> String hex = concatMap (\x -> printf "%0.2x" (toInteger x)) getRecursiveContents :: FilePath -> IO [FilePath] -- ^ Just gets the paths to all the files in the given directory. Are there any ideas on how I could solve this problem? The entire program is available here: http://haskell.pastebin.com/PAZm0Dcb

  • Closing a window when it's "no longer needed".

    - by Mason Blier
This is kind of a hard question to describe, and I've searched for about an hour now to no avail. Essentially, picture a small 'flyout' window like the Windows 7 Wireless Control or the Volume Slider from the system tray(notification area). When you click on the icon, the application pops up with focus, and if you click off of it, the window destroys itself. I thought it woudl be easily solved by simply having my window destroy it self when it loses focus (I've been listening for WM_KILLFOCUS), but the problem is, if the icon is clicked, my window does not always get focus. Since this isn't the case, if the user clicks my icon, and then clicks away because it was a mistake (on the desktop say), then how can I set my app to close? I've tried messing with SPY++ but checking the volume control / wireless control apps are proving difficult as they disappear when I try to get their window/process handles. Thanks!

  • wxAuiNotebook - preventing certain tabs from closing

    - by Roy Tang
I'm experimenting with wx.aui.AuiNotebook; is there a way I can prevent particular tabs from being closed? i.e. I have an app that allows the user to create multiple tabs in an AuiNotebook, but the first 2 tabs are system managed and I don't want them to be closed. Also, in a close event, can I get the window object attached to the tab being closed? (to extract data from it)

  • C# - Thread does not abort on application closing

    - by michal
Hi, I have an application which does some background task (network listening & reading) in separate Thread. It seems however that the Thread is not being Terminated/Aborted when I close the application (click "x" button on titlebar ;)). Is that because the main Thread routine is while(true) {...} ? What is the solution here? I was looking for some "interruption" flag for the Thread as the condition for "while" loop, but didn't found any ...

  • Closing the iframe which was opened for "ajax uploading"

    - by KPL
Hello people, http://www.atwebresults.com/php_ajax_image_upload/ I am using this script for so-called AJAX file upload but which is actually based on opening of iframe and then submitting form from it. What my problem is, I am using this script in a form which will have some other fields too. So after uploading the image, when I click submit at the end of the form, the form is submitted to the file which was opened in iFrame. As I am not an expert in JS, can you guys help me with this? I tried changing the action attribute and tried to completely remove the form too, but nothing helped.

  • Jquery dialog box - doesn't fade out before closing

    - by Broken Link
I have div(box) on my page and I'm using this script to display div as dialog box. Inside that div I have a hyper link, On click of the hyper link I want to fade out the dialog box and close.. The content of the dialog fades out, but the border of the dialog box remains same. If I add $("#box").dialog('close') to the click function after fadeto there is no effect.. it just closes the dialog box completely. Any help? using jquery-ui-1.7.2 <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $("a#later").click(function () { $("#box").fadeTo('slow', 0); }) }); $(function () { $("#box").dialog({ autoOpen: true, width: 500, modal: true, }); }); </script>

  • C#: socket closing if user user exists

    - by corvallo
Hi to everyone I'm trying to create a server/client application for a school project. This is the scenario: a server on a given port, multiple user connected, each user has it's own username. Now I want to check if a user that try to connect to the user use a valid username, for example if a user with username A it's already connected a new user that want to connect cannot use the username A. If this happen the server answer to the new client with an error code. This is the code for this part private void Receive() { while (true) { byte[] buffer = new byte[64]; socket.Receive(buffer); string received = Encoding.Default.GetString(buffer); if (received.IndexOf("!error") != -1) { string[] mySplit = received.Split(':'); string errorCode = mySplit[1].Trim((char)0); if (errorCode == "user exists") { richTextBox1.AppendText("Your connection was refused by server, because there's already another user connected with the username you choose"); socket.Disconnect(true); connectBtn.Enabled = true; } } } } But when I try to do this the program crash and visual studio said that there's an invalid cross-thread operation on richTextBox1. Any ideas. Thank you in advance.

  • Closing several android activities simultaneously

    - by teedyay
In my application you can navigate through several Activities until the Activity stack is quite deep. We'd like a button on every Activity that will take you straight back to the main menu - i.e. pop all Activities from the stack except the first one. I've put the button in a View that I can easily put on every Activity in the application, but I can't figure out how to close several Activities in one fell swoop. (If possible, it would be good if the View could work out how many Activities to close by itself - i.e. detect how deep on the stack its own Activity is.)

  • Do something before closing the browser window

    - by Adam Kiss
Hello, we have an web-application built in flash (it's actually just getting built :D) where is very important to be notified, when user closes his window. Since it's in flash, we do not worry about Javascript, we do not support non-javascript users. What is the safest (meaning it's 100% sure it gets called) X-browser way to call php script to close session, make some db changes, etc.? Thank you

  • Closing Windows Forms on a Touchscreen

    - by drharris
Our clients have fat fingers, and so do we. We take touchscreen netbooks apart to insert them into our custom hardware, and I write a software interface that shows up on the touchscreen. The problem is that it has about a 3/4" bezel over the screen, which means hitting that little red "X" becomes a challenge, especially considering reduced capacitive ability on the edges and corners. Is there a way to make this standard close button larger? Of course in the application I can always make really nice 80x80 buttons that are perfectly usable, but there seems to be no way to override the default frame of the form. We have tried enabling Large Fonts and all the built-in accessibility features, but nothing seems to make it large enough to hit successfully. Simply adding a toolbar button is also not much of an option. We prefer to utilize the standard look and feel of a normal Windows application. Alternatively, should we be looking at making some sort of "kiosk mode" where we simply go fullscreen and do nothing involving the taskbar or title bar? How difficult is this to accomplish, if so?

  • Create Extension Method to Produce Open & Closing Tags like Html.BeginForm()

    - by DaveDev
Hi Guys I wonder if it's possible to create an extension method which has functionality & behaviour similar to Html.BeginForm(), in that it would generate a complete Html tag, and I could specificy its contents inside <% { & } %> tags. For example, I could have a view like: <% using(Html.BeginDiv("divId")) %> <% { %> <!-- Form content goes here --> <% } %> This capability would be very useful in the context of the functionality I'm trying to produce with the example in this question This would give me the ability to create containers for the types that I'll be <% var myType = new MyType(123, 234); %> <% var tag = new TagBuilder("div"); %> <% using(Html.BeginDiv<MyType>(myType, tag) %> <% { %> <!-- controls used for the configuration of MyType --> <!-- represented in the context of a HTML element, e.g.: --> <div class="MyType" prop1="123" prop2="234"> <!-- add a select here --> <!-- add a radio control here --> <!-- whatever, it represents elements in the context of their type --> </div> <% } %> I realise this will produce invalid XHTML, but I think there could be other benefits that outweigh this, especially since this project doesn't require that the XHTML validate to the W3C standards. Thanks Dave

  • C# Closing a form during a constructor

    - by pm_2
Is it possible to close a form while the constructor is executing (or simply to stop it showing at this stage)? I have the following code: public partial class MyForm : Form { public MyForm() { if (MyFunc()) { this.Close(); } } } Which errors in Main(), here: static void Main() { ... // Following line errors Application.Run(new MyForm()); } I’ve tried checking the result of MyForm like this: static void Main() { ... MyForm frm = new MyForm(); if (frm != null) { // Following line errors Application.Run(frm); } } But that doesn’t seem to help. Can anyone tell me a way around this, please? Maybe a way to check the form to see if it still exists?

  • Jquery html() and self closing tags

    - by Pedro Reis
While creating self contained elements with Jquery html() the following issue happens: $('#someId').html('<li><input type="checkbox" /></li>') will create <li><input type="checkbox"></li> It closes correctly the <li> tag but not the <input> It seems its an issue from innerHtml which is used in the html() function. I have looked everywhere and found a solution for this but the page is not available anymore as you see in: http://dev.jquery.it/ticket/3378 Anybody knows how to fix this?

  • Rapid Opening and Closing System.IO.StreamWriter in C#

    - by ccomet
Suppose you have a file that you are programmatically logging information into with regards to a process. Kinda like your typical debug Console.WriteLine, but due to the nature of the code you're testing, you don't have a console to write onto so you have to write it somewhere like a file. My current program uses System.IO.StreamWriter for this task. My question is about the approach to using the StreamWriter. Is it better to open just one StreamWriter instance, do all of the writes, and close it when the entire process is done? Or is it a better idea to open a new StreamWriter instance to write a line into the file, then immediately close it, and do this for every time something needs to be written in? In the latter approach, this would probably be facilitated by a method that would do just that for a given message, rather than bloating the main process code with excessive amounts of lines. But having a method to aid in that implementation doesn't necessarily make it the better choice. Are there significant advantages to picking one approach or the other? Or are they functionally equivalent, leaving the choice on the shoulders of the programmer?

  • Closing a form and then call another one.

    - by elvispt
Hi. I want to close the current form I'm on (MainForm) and then opening a second one (Form). I've tried: private void buttonStartQuiz_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { this.Close(); Form2 form2 = new Form2(); form2.ShowDialog(); } Or adding the this.Close(); after the ShowDialog also doesn't work. Any hints? Thank you.

  • Permission Denied error in IE when closing popups

    - by Kenia
Hi everyone! I have a simple web testing application which is supposed to open and close several popups by itself (without user interaction). For this purpose i have a javascript function to access the variable where the popup reference is stored and close it if it´s not null, fairly simple. However I get random errors in IE (in FF it works as expected, all popups are closed correctly) like Message: No such interface supported Line: 86 Char: 3 Code: 0 URI: http://10.10.0.61:10000/savmailer/adm/tests/common_tests_code.js and Message: Permission denied Line: 86 Char: 3 Code: 0 URI: http://10.10.0.61:10000/savmailer/adm/tests/common_tests_code.js The line 86 references exactly the point at which I do popup.close(); in the following function function closePopupWindow(popup){ if (popup != null) { popup.close(); popup = null; } } I have googled and it seems this permission denied error is quite common to come through among IE developers, however there´s no clear solution for it, it´s just a matter of changing the code slightly "to please" IE, so to speak. However i have no idea how to change mine since it´s just 3 lines! Tried also to change the security browser settings by adding my domain to the trusted zone, but nothing, doesn't help either. If anyone has any helpful idea or notices something i might be forgetting, please, reply to this! Thanks in advance, Kenia
