The ability to recognize patterns in a sequence of rows has been a capability that was widely desired, but not possible with SQL until now. Row pattern matching in native SQL improves application and development productivity and query efficiency for row-sequence analysis. With Oracle Database 12c you can use the new MATCH_RECOGNIZE clause to perform pattern matching in SQL to do the following: Logically partition and order the data using the PARTITION BY and ORDER BY clauses Use regular expressions syntax to define patterns of rows to seek using the PATTERN clause. These patterns a powerful and expressive feature, applied to the pattern variables you define. Specify the logical conditions required to map a row to a row pattern variable in the DEFINE clause. Define measures, which are expressions usable in the MEASURES clause of the SQL query.   Is the pattern matching logic used by this API exposed for reuse somewhere in the .Net Framework? Something of the form FilePatternMatch( string searchPattern, stringfileNameToTest ) is what I'm looking for. I'm implementing a temporary workaround for WP7 not filtering the results for this overload and I'd like the solution to both provide a consistent experience and avoid reinventing this functionality if it is exposed. If the behaviour is not exposed for reuse, a regular expression solution (like glob pattern matching in .NET) will suffice and would save me spending the time to test the fine details of what the behaviour should be. Perhaps one of the answers posted in the thread linked above is correct. Since I haven't confirmed the exact behaviour as yet, I wasn't able to determine this at a glance. Feel free to point me to one of those answers if you know it is behaviouraly an exact match to the API referenced in the question title. I could assume the pattern matching is consistent with how DOS handled * and ? in 8.3 file names (I'm familiar with behavioural nuances of that implementation), but it's reasonable to assume Microsoft has evolved pattern matching behaviour for file names in the decade+ since so I thought I would check before proceeding on that assumption.

  hello, i'm currently learning lua. regarding pattern-matching in lua i found the following sentence in the lua documentation on lua.org: Nevertheless, pattern matching in Lua is a powerful tool and includes some features that are difficult to match with standard POSIX implementations. as i'm familiar with posix regular expressions i would like to know if there are any common samples where lua pattern matching is "better" compared to regular expression -- or did i misinterpret the sentence? and if there are any common examples: why is any of pattern-matching vs. regular expressions better suited? thanks very much, harald

• Numerical Pattern Matching

  A project I'm researching requires some numerical pattern matching. My searches haven't turned up many relevant hits since most results tend to be around text pattern matching. The idea is we'll have certain wave patterns we'll need to be watching for and trying to match incoming data vs the wave database we will be building. Here is and example of one of the wave patterns we'll need to be matching against. There is clearly a pattern there, but the peaks will not have the exact same values, but the overall shape of the wave iterations will be very similar. Does anyone have any advice on how to go about storing and later matching these patterns, and / or other search terms I can use to find more information on the subject of pattern matching?   I have a certain text in Java, and I want to use pattern and matcher to extract something from it. This is my program: public String getItemsByType(String text, String start, String end) { String patternHolder; StringBuffer itemLines = new StringBuffer(); patternHolder = start + ".*" + end; Pattern pattern = Pattern.compile(patternHolder); Matcher matcher = pattern.matcher(text); while (matcher.find()) { itemLines.append(text.substring(matcher.start(), matcher.end()) + "\n"); } return itemLines.toString(); } This code works fully WHEN the searched text is on the same line, for instance: String text = "My name is John and I am 18 years Old"; getItemsByType(text, "My", "John"); immediately grabs the text "My name is John" out of the text. However, when my text looks like this: String text = "My name\nis John\nand I'm\n18 years\nold"; getItemsByType(text, "My", "John"); It doesn't grab anything, since "My" and "John" are on different lines. How do I solve this?

• Save output and exit code of command to files on windows

  I want to run a command and save its output and its exit code, in different files. Here's what i am doing: cmd.exe /C command 1> %TEMP%\output.log 2> %TEMP%\error.log && echo %ERRORLEVEL% > %TEMP%\status || echo %ERRORLEVEL% > %TEMP%\status If i don't do output redirection (into %TEMP%\output.log and/or %TEMP%\error.log), then exit code is saved just fine. However, when i run the line as shown above more than once (just get back to previous line in command prompt and rerun it), i get 0 in %TEMP%\status regardless of the real exit code. What am i missing? Or maybe there's a better way of doing this?

• Strange Windows DIR command behavior

  I discovered this quite by accident while looking for a file with a number in the name. When I type: dir *number* (where number represents any number from 0 to 9 and with no spaces between the asterisks and the number) at the cmd.exe command prompt, it returns various files do not appear in any to fit the search criteria. What's weird, is that depending on the directory, some numbers will work and not others. An example is, in a directory associated with a website, I type the following: dir *4* and what is returned is: Directory of C:\Ampps\www\includes\pages 04/30/2012 03:55 PM 153 inventory_list_retrieve.php 06/18/2012 11:17 AM 6,756 ix.html 06/19/2012 01:47 PM 257,501 jquery.1.7.1.js 3 File(s) 264,410 bytes 0 Dir(s) 362,280,906,752 bytes free That just doesn't make any sense to me. Any clue? The question is posed on stackOverflow because the DIR command is often combined with FOR in batch programs. The strange DIR behavior would seem to make batch programs potentially unreliable if they use the DIR command.

  Command line and scripting is dangerous. Make a little typo with rm -rf and you are in a world of hurt. Confuse prod with stage in the name of the database while running an import script and you are boned (if they are on the same server, which is not good, but happens). Same for noticing too late that the server name where you sshed is not what you thought it was after funning some commands. You have to respect the Hole Hawg. I have a few little rituals before running risky commands - like doing a triple take check of the server I'm on. Here's an interesting article on rm safety. What little rituals, tools and tricks keeps you safe on the command line? And I mean objective things, like "first run ls foo*, look at the output of that and then substitute ls with rm -rf to avoid running rm -rf foo * or something like that", not "make sure you know what the command will do".

The network name cannot be found. The url I used works in a browser. It's an Apache dav on basic auth LDAP authentication method being used. Here's the thing... I CAN create a web folder when I use the "Add a network place" wizard. When I do net use, I don't see it listed in the prompt that follows. What utility do I need to use to mount a web folder in command line?

• administraitor denies command prompt

  I looked at the command prompt faqs on this webiste and tried to get me to make a new profile but when i went to open it it said "The command prompt has been disabled by your administraitor-click any key to countinue" and when i do it closes which i knew that was going to happen. Is there someway i can stop the admin from blocking my command prompt? oh and i was at school too (Dont know if this helps but i am in the West Allis West Milwaukee school district). Also, is there a way i can hack into the blocking program for my school at all? I don't remember what the program is but it might have to do with vision? I'm not sure but it would be greatly appreciated if someone could help (could i download a program on a flash drive that denies any blocking and/or disabling SafeSearch and plug it in into a computer at my school and use it from the flash drive? Would the school blocking thingy deny it from working?) HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!!

• Configure GNU screen so that it stores command histories in files

  I would like to configure GNU screen such that it stores the command histories of all the different windows in different files. I know by default GNU screen does not store the command histories (of its different windows) in a file at all (it stores them in memory instead), but it might be possible to tell it to store them in files instead? The different command history files should have the names <session>.<window>.history, or similar. Does anyone have an idea how to do that? (Just to be clear, I want each GNU screen window to write a different file. I like that each window has a different history, and I typically run different types of commands in the different windows.)

  Does anyone know how to do this? I just want a one-shot command to "update everything" over the command line? This is for a remote server so it must be over the command line. I used: $ sudo pkg list -u to see the list of packages that are out of date, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to say, "ok, update them".   When I type help in windows command line, it lists a whole bunch of commands. However I find that there is a whole set of commands that do not appear in this list, for e.g. many networking commands such as ping, tracert, arp, netstat, net etc. I am sure that there is also a whole bunch of non-networking command which is also not listed. So my question is this. Why are these additional commands not shown in help? Is there a subset/group of commands only that help shows? Is there any command/method to list all the commands that can be executed in windows? (I am not talking about additional .exes that get added to path when some new software is installed..)

  Using github for the first time. In terminal I receive this error git: command not found If I type in terminal which git it returns nothing. If I type which github it returns /usr/local/bin/github Github's command line utility seems to be installing a github but not a git. echo $PATH returns /usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11/bin. Currently do not have a .bash_profile or .profile. Not sure if that is significant. Am a command line and $PATH rookie but am determined to learn. Mac OS version 10.6.8 and Github version 1.2.8. All advice is appreciated.

  I have an HP laptop with a Windows 7 32-bit Home Premium operating system. My command prompt doesn't run lots of commands like help, shutdown, ipconfig, ping, etc. I get a message like: 'help' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Only simple commands like cd and dir are working. I noticed that whenever I navigate to c:/windows/system32, the command works. But I need to run some important commands like java on a file that is on the desktop and not in the system32 folder. How can I fix this?

• List processes with their launching command line

  I'm looking for a Windows feature or third-party tool that can produce a list of active processes (as in the task manager) with the command line used to start each process. e.g. if I launch "php.exe -q script.php" in a command line, during the execution of my process, I'd like to see this command in the list and not only "php.exe" Tasklist, process explorer, taskinfo... can't give this information and/or make it available in a text format.
