• Bricscad V12 on ubuntu 11.10!

  i tried to install bricscad from the deb file but is for 32bit systems.So i had problems and i downloaded the .tgz file and ran tar -xvf and i was in the directory /opt/bricsys/bricscad/v12 So i managed to run bricscad with the command sudo sh bricscad.sh in the directory this.So my question is, do you have any idea of how to make a launcher or smthing so i can run the program from an easier way?I cannot find it in dash(unity) or in the desktop. Any help will be great! Thanks

• Switching from an Ubuntu derivative to original Ubuntu

  I installed Zorin 6 (based on Ubuntu 12.04), because I like all the whistles it has (plymouth screen,compiz effects,installed codecs, sound themes, etc.). I miss though the modern and futuristic unity environment (launcher, dash, HUD, indicators etc.). Is there a way to switch from Zorin to Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS and keep all these effects? Or What additional software should I install in an Ubuntu clean install to add the effects Zorin has (plymouth, compiz effects, sounds, audio and video codecs etc.)

• Ubuntu 12.04 Unity fails

  I am using the latest edition of Virtualbox 4.1.12 and I get the attached when I attempt to launch Unity. Everything is there in the background but it's not displaying the launcher, dash, or panel. I've tried to reboot the VM as well as ensure all updates are installed. I've also tried removing and reinstalling the Guest Additions. I have a screenshot if you'd like to see that, but it won't let me attach it.

• Why does the file lens not search mounted samba shares?

  I've got several samba shares mounted in my home directory (mounted with the "mount.cifs" command). I can browse the shares just fine. From Nautilus I can search them just fine. My question is why doesn't the dash file lens search the mounts as well? I've also noticed files I open from the shares do not show up as recently used (again in the file lens). I've Googled around and I've been unable to come up with any thing.

• How can I remove and re-install Unity?

  Unity is misbehaving after installing GLX Dock - HUD does not open with GLX Dock turned off and there are ugly shadows in the panel,three control buttons (close,minimise,maximise) and "Ubuntu Desktop" label when there are no apps running.I have to click the top panel to get the super key to open the dash. I have tried unity --reset and unity --replace commands ,but they do not help. Can I un-install and re-install Unity?

• Screen going blank

  When I am watching videos via VLC or watching videos in Firefox - even when I simply click DASH HOME - Screen goes blank - nothing working - I needed to restart to recover. Not sure which is causing this issue. Is it because of Graphics Card problem - Not installed any proprietary drivers. • Ubuntu 12.10 Crashing Compiz/Unity (not Nvidia related)

  I've upgraded from 12.04 to 12.10 and compiz and/or unity are constantly crashing rendering my computer useless (no top bar, no dash, no window decorations). I have just discovered that when I login with the guest account everything seems to be working OK. I've been through all the threads I could find and haven't found a resolution. This isn't Nvidia related (I am running on a System76 laptop with ATI Radeon). Is there any way I can go about isolating the problem and restore my user account?

• How do I change the software center icon in the launcher?

  I'm not a big fan of the Software Center icon (apparently I'm not the only one: http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/09/software-centre-icon-proposal). Is there a way change it? The answers to this related question doesn't make it clear whether there is: How to change the Dash icon in the Unity Launcher? As far as I can see the Software Center icon isn't in nautilus /usr/share/unity/5/ so where could it be?

• NM applet dropdown options not working

  I recently realized the dropdown options from my nm-applet are no longer working. But I can still control the network configuration by going through the dash. This happened very recently. I only realized this before a week. I guess some recent update screwed it up. I have these related packages installed network-manager-gnome 0.9.4.1-0ubuntu2 libnm-gtk0 0.9.4.1-0ubuntu2 network-manager 0.9.4.0-0ubuntu4.1 Any help would be great.

• I can't install Truecrypt on Ubuntu 12.04

  I have a Windows 7 machine with Truecrypt. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 with the intention of converting to an Ubuntu only machine but I can't install Truecrypt on Ubuntu. I have been looking through the forums and have followed all advice to the letter and still Truecrypt doesn't work; I have only a non-functional icon in "dash". Should I uninstall Ubuntu and start over (ie reinstall)? I love Ubuntu and greatly appreciate your efforts on this forum.

• Mathematica regular expressions on unicode strings.

  This was a fascinating debugging experience. Can you spot the difference between the following two lines? StringReplace["–", RegularExpression@"[\\s\\S]" -> "abc"] StringReplace["-", RegularExpression@"[\\s\\S]" -> "abc"] They do very different things when you evaluate them. It turns out it's because the string being replaced in the first line consists of a unicode en dash, as opposed to a plain old ascii dash in the second line. In the case of the unicode string, the regular expression doesn't match. I meant the regex "[\s\S]" to mean "match any character (including newline)" but Mathematica apparently treats it as "match any ascii character". How can I fix the regular expression so the first line above evaluates the same as the second? Alternatively, is there an asciify filter I can apply to the strings first? PS: The Mathematica documentation says that its string pattern matching is built on top of the Perl-Compatible Regular Expressions library (http://pcre.org) so the problem I'm having may not be specific to Mathematica.

• Why can't HTC Droid running OTA 2.1 communicate with RFCOMM?

  Yesterday we received OTA Android 2.1 on my wife's HTC Droid - HOORAY!!! I am finally able to load my carputer app on her phone. Well we loaded it, but it doesn't work. Specifically, it connects but sees no I/O!!! I paired, re-paired, and re-paired again, every time its the same problem: connect() says we connected successfully, but any attempt to send or receive data appears to work but no data ever arrives in the input buffer. The device I'm connecting to uses AT commands. ATI should respond with a device ID. That works fine when I run the app on my Moto Droid, but on the HTC droid, no data is ever present in the inputstream/buffer. Personally, I'm feeling pretty sure it's a bug or limitation in this release for the HTC (because the app works great on my Moto A855 Droid). Can anybody comment on the issue?   Hello Everyone, i have following two routes registered in my global.asax file routes.MapRoute( "strict", "{controller}.mvc/{docid}/{action}/{id}", new { action = "Index", id = "", docid = "" }, new { docid = @"\d+"} ); routes.MapRoute( "default", "{controller}.mvc/{action}/{id}", new { action = "Index", id = "" }, new { docConstraint = new DocumentConstraint() } ); and i have a static "dashboard" link in my tabstrip and some other links that are constructed from values in db here is the code <ul id="globalnav" class = "t-reset t-tabstrip-items"> <li class="bar" id = "dashboard"> <%=Html.ActionLink("dash.board", "Index", pck.Controller, new{docid =string.Empty,id = pck.PkgID }, new { @class = "here" })%> </li> <% foreach (var md in pck.sysModules) { %> <li class="<%=liClass%>"> <%=Html.ActionLink(md.ModuleName, md.ActionName, pck.Controller, new { docid = md.DocumentID}, new { @class = cls })%> </li> <% } %> </ul> Now my launching address is localhost/oa.mvc/index/11 clearly matching the 2nd route. but when i visit any page that has mapped to first route and then come back to dash.board link it shows me localhost/oa.mvc/7/index/11 where 7 is docid and picked from previous Url. now i understand that my action method is after docid and changing it would not clear the docid. my question here is that can i remove docid in this scenario without changing the route. regards adeel

I think I need an intent, but what arg(s) would I pass to the intent before kicking it off with startService()?   I know this should be easier if I could only use optgroups. But I am trying to avoid hacking core of my CMS, so jQuery should come to rescue again, hopefully. I have a select with options in a hierarchy sometimes, and I want to put attributes disabled to any of options containing text NOT starting with a dash. • How to integerate Skype in Messaging Menu with Skype-Wrapper?

  I cant see skype-wrapper in unity dash (alt f2). So I run it from terminal and attach it with skype. • Online Accounts auth over and over again without success

  I just added my Google account to the "Online Accounts" in Gnome. Before my last restart the account couldn't be added for unknown reason. I authorized Gnome access to my Google Account, the window closed and nothing happened. Now I authorized Ubuntu access to my Google Account which worked well: But I can not open the Gnome Online Accounts even when I delete every online account: It's icon show up that it is loading in the dash but then suddenly disappears without any message. How to debug that? What can I do?

• Al abrir archivo desde navegador se abre el directorio

  al descargar un archivo a través de cualquier navegador (chrome, firefox, etc) e intentar abrirlo directamente, en vez de abrirse el archivo se abre el directorio en que se descargó. lo mismo me sucedió al intentar abrir un archivo desde el dash de gnome-shell. Esto sólo me sucede con los accesos directos a los archivos, cuando estoy dentro de nautilus se abre el archivo sin problemas. he intentado en distintos entornos de escritorio, el que uso más constantemente es Gnome-Shell, bajo Ubuntu 12.04 ¿cómo lo puedo solucionar?
