  • Scaling along an arbitrary axis (Dealing with non-uniform scale)

    I'm trying to build my own little engine to get more familiar with the concepts of 3D programming. I have a transform class that on each frame it creates a Scaling Matrix (S), a Rotation Matrix from a Quaternion (R) and concatenates them together (S*R). Once i have SR, I insert the translation values into the bottom of the three columns. So i end up with a transformation matrix that looks like: [SR SR SR 0] [SR SR SR 0] [SR SR SR 0] [tx ty tz 1] This works perfectly in all cases except when rotating an object that has a non-uniform scale. For example a unit cube with ScaleX = 4, ScaleY = 2, ScaleZ = 1 will give me a rectangular box that is 4 times as wide as the depth and twice as high as the depth. If i then translate this around, the box stays the same and looks normal. The problem happens whenever I try to rotate this scaled box. The shape itself becomes distorted and it appears as though the Scale factors are affecting the object on the World X,Y,Z axis rather than the local X,Y,Z axis of the object. I've done some pretty extensive research through a variety of textbooks (Eberly, Moller/Hoffman, Phar etc) and there isn't a ton there to go off of. Online, most of the answers say to avoid non-uniform scaling which I understand the desire to avoid it, but I'd still like to figure out how to support it. The only thing I can think off is that when constructing a Scale Matrix: [sx 0 0 0] [0 sy 0 0] [0 0 sz 0] [0 0 0 1] This is scaling along the World Axis instead of the object's local Direction, Up and Right vectors or it's local Z, Y, X axis. Does anyone have any tips or ideas on how to handle construction a transformation matrix that allows for non-uniform scaling and rotation? Thanks!

  • Scale an image with unscalable parts

    Brief description of problem: imagine having some vector picture(s) and text annotations on the sides outside of the picture(s). Now the task is to scale the whole composition while preserving the aspect ratio in order to fit some view-port. The tricky part is that the text is not scalable only the picture(s). The distance between text and the image is still relative to the whole image, but the text size is always a constant. Example: let's assume that our total composition is two times larger than a view-port. Then we can just scale it by 1/2. But because the text parts are a fixed font size, they will become larger than we expect and won't fit in the view-port. One option I can think of is an iterative process where we repeatedly scale our composition until the delta between it and the view-port satisfies some precision. But this algorithm is quite costly as it involves working with the graphics and the image may be composed of a lot of components which will lead to a lot of matrix computations. What's more, this solution seems to be hard to debug, extend, etc. Are there any other approaches to solving this scaling problem?

Few users mainly use Yahoo Web mail for Spamming and We need to block yahoo web mail access only ( complete yahoo website is also Ok) through our proxy . specially .mail.yahoo.com.. Like - we need to block URL like - http://uk-mg61.mail.yahoo.com http://in-mg61.mail.yahoo.com etc. etc. Note : We generaly open http://mail.yahoo.com in browser - but after loggin in it forwards it to Urls like above but all those are subdomain of mail.yahoo.com My target is if we can get all IP list for all available subdomain of mail.yahoo.com I can block it totally . We can only use IPTABLE ...I know using proxy itself we can check HTTP header and check Host field for .mail.yahoo.com. and block it. Solution : Follwoign what I did using IPtable . I collected IP CIDR block for yahoo mainly for yahoo web mail ( mail.yahoo.com ) as much as possible ( using linux host and whois command ) [ like 66.163.160.0/19 nd 98.136.0.0/14 etc ] and applied follwing command Like iptables -A OUTPUT -p tcp -d 66.163.160.0/19 -m state --state NEW -j DROP etc. Things are working fine. user can not access yahoo mail BUT the problem is I need to be updated with the avaialble CIDR YAHOO IP list ... I am ready to do it every week. I collected many from Net... You know theer are countles subdomain of mail.yahoo.com and seems every week Yahoo adding new IP... But what I observed some time user can bypass our rule and the reason obvously all the avaialble Ips are not entered in IPtable yet. What we need to do is enter all Ips of mail.yahoo.co But where do I find all subdomain for mail.yahoo.com I know we can get it from DNS but I must not be allowed to make DNS axfr query. Also doing reverse DNS will have performance issue. I want to know all subdomain of .mail.yahoo.c Can I get it from yahoo site. I have the list of all YAHOO smtp IP....but I need webmail Ip... ( http://public.yahoo.com/carloc/ymail.html ) Can you please share your Idea. Thank you

  • Parsing large delimited files with dynamic number of columns

    Hi, What would be the best approach to parse a delimited file when the columns are unknown before parsing the file? The file format is Rightmove v3 (.blm), the structure looks like this: #HEADER# Version : 3 EOF : '^' EOR : '~' #DEFINITION# AGENT_REF^ADDRESS_1^POSTCODE1^MEDIA_IMAGE_00~ // can be any number of columns #DATA# agent1^the address^the postcode^an image~ agent2^the address^the postcode^^~ // the records have to have the same number of columns as specified in the definition, however they can be empty etc #END# The files can potentially be very large, the example file I have is 40Mb but they could be several hundred megabytes. Below is the code I had started on before I realised the columns were dynamic, I'm opening a filestream as I read that was the best way to handle large files. I'm not sure my idea of putting every record in a list then processing is any good though, don't know if that will work with such large files.   • Rails: Cannot add :precision or :scale options with change_column in a migration?

    This seems to have been asked before: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1402547/rails-decimal-precision-and-scale But when running a change_column migration for :precision or :scale they don't actually affect the schema or database, but db:migrate runs without errors.   • Using CSS to both scale AND reposition an image WITHIN a div?

    We know how to use CSS to show only part of an image within a div (i.e., image sprites), but the image has to be a background image. We know how to use CSS to scale an image, but the image has to be an IMG. Does anyone know of a way to scale and image and show only part of it? For example, I want to: show pixels (15,15) through (100,100), and scale it up by 200%. The first I can do by making in a background image. The second I can do by making it a foreground image. But so far, I have not ascertained how to do both. Is it even possible using only CSS/HTML?

  • AJAX get data from large HTML page as the large HTML page loads

    Not entirely sure whether this has a name but basically I have a large HTML page that is generated from results in a db. So viewing the HTML page (which is a report) in a browser directly does not display all contents immediately but displays what it has and additional HTML is added as the results from the DB are retrieved... Is there a way I can make an AJAX request to this HTML page and as opposed to waiting until the whole page (report) is ready, I can start processing the response as the HTML report is loaded? Or is there another way of doing it? Atm I make my AJAX response it just sits there for a minute or two until the HTML page is complete... If context is of any use: The HTML report is generated by a Java servlet and the page making the AJAX call is a JSP page. Unfortunately I can't very easily break the report up because it is generated by BIRT (Eclipse reporting extension). Thanks in advance.

    I've done a good bit of research to find an upload component for .NET that I can use to upload large files, has a progress bar, and can resume the upload of large files. I've come across some components like AjaxUploader, SlickUpload, and PowUpload, to name a few. Each of these options cost money and only PowUpload does the resumable upload, but it does it with a java applet. I'm willing to pay for a component that does those things well, but if I could write it myself that would be best. I have two questions: Is it possible to resume a file upload on the client without using flash/java/Silverlight? Does anyone have some code or a link to an article that explains how to write a .NET HTTPHandler that will allow streaming upload and an ajax progress bar?   • Parsing a website

    I want to make a program that takes as user input a website address. The program then goes to that website, downloads it, and then parses the information inside. It outputs a new html file using the information from the website. Specifically, what this program will do is take certain links from the website, and put the links in the output html file, and it will discard everything else. Right now I just want to make it for websites that don't require a login, but later on I want to make it work for sites where you have to login, so it will have to be able to deal with cookies. I'll also want to later on have the program be able to explore certain links and download information from those other sites. What are the best programming languages or tools to do this?

  • iPhone: keep text looking good after scale transform applied?

    I'm applying a scale transform to a UIView that draws a number. (The number is literally being drawn with drawInRect; no UILabel in sight.) The scale transform makes the view smaller by quite a bit...say, 80% smaller. The resulting number looks a little "chunky". Is there a way that I can keep my text looking nice and anti-aliased, the way it's supposed to look? Thanks.

  • Large File Upload in SharePoint 2010

    Ad:: SharePoint 2007 Training in .NET 3.5 technologies (more information). Okay this is a big BIG B-I-G problem. And with SP2010 it’s going to be more prominent, because atleast at the server side, SharePoint can support large files much much better than SharePoint 2007 ever did. The issue with very large files being uploaded through any browser based API are - Reliably transferring gigabyte or bigger files without breakages over a protocol like HTTP, which is better suited for tiny transfers like images and text. Not killing your browser because it has to load all that in memory Not killing your web server because All that you upload through HTTP post, first gets streamed into IIS Memory, w3wp.exe memory before the ENTIRE FILE finishes uploading .. before it is stored. Which means, You cannot show an accurate and live progress bar of the upload, IIS gives you no such accurate metric of an upload. All the counters it gives you are approximate. Your w3wp.exe eats up all server memory – 4GB of it, for a 4GB upload. A thread is kept busy for the entire duration of the upload, thereby greatly limiting your web server’s capability to serve newer requests. Kills effective load balancing. Not killing your content database because, As you are uploading a very large file, that large file gets written sequentially into the DB, and therefore for a very large file very severely impacts the database performance. I had put together another video showing RBS usage in SharePoint 2010. I talked about many practical ramifications of using RBS in SharePoint in that video. Note that enabling large file support will never ever be a point and click job, simply because there are too many questions one needs to ask, and too many things one needs to plan for. However, one part that will remain common across all large file upload scenarios, in SharePoint or outside of SharePoint is to do it efficiently while not killing the web server.   • Scale plugin keeps forgetting hot corner settings on restart

    I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 with Unity, which I suppose uses Compiz as well. I have Compiz Settings Manager, and make the top left and bottom left corners of my screen activate the "Scale" (like Exposé) function to scale and show all windows. The problem is that when I restart the computer, the hot corners no longer do anything. I have to go back into compiz settings manager, delete the hot corner option, and then set it again. Something seems to be overriding or deleting the compiz hot corner setting on restart. Update: Sometimes, the setting loses its footing even while the computer is running. I haven't figured out yet what triggers it.

My A/B pages are on http://www.mydomain.com, and my conversion page is the last stage of my shopping cart on https://secure.mydomain.com. I thought the most concise way of explaining this would be to post my page source code: http://pastebin.com/ru7dCDqD To summarize, the pages are being displayed correctly in my test report, but no conversions are being tracked.

  • scale mode window on same workspace (ubuntu 12.04)

    I have recently upgraded from ubuntu 11.10 to ubuntu 12.04. Generally in unity if we open several interface of an application then we can switch them by double clicking the icon of the application on unity panel. It shows the opened application's multiple interface in scale mode. But ubuntu 12.04 does not show the windows of different workspace in scale mode. If i open three nautilus, two in same and one in different workspace then click on icon show two interface (which workspace contains two). That's means it only shows current workspace's application's interface. Is it a bug or feature of ubuntu 12.04? Is there any way to fix it?
