• Ubuntu installer shows three small screens

  I'm trying to install Ubuntu (or Kubuntu, which I tried first) 13.04 on a new laptop. I need the install in UEFI mode in order to properly dual boot with Windows 8. I've managed to overcome most of the UEFI issues up to the installer, which appeared as a black screen until I used nomodeset. Now the installer will appear, however it does fit my screen size. Instead, it appears as three small identical screens across the top of the monitor. I thought the problem could be solved by changing the display resolution in GRUB via changing the vga number, but this simply expanded the width of the three screens. While I could install it at this point, the identical screens are too small for me to be able to read the installer. As well, the "Try Ubuntu" option simply gets stuck at a black screen. I'm afraid these problems may persist through the installation if I attempted to continue. Additional information: The laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad Y580 with an i7 3630qm processor, and a GeForce GTX 660m graphics card which works alongside an Intel HD 4000 integrated card via Optimus.

  I have two domains hi.org and bye.net and one dynamic IP address and two servers. I want to attach one domain bye.net to server1 and hi.org to server2. I'm using Apache wamp 2.0i. I use Windows 7 (server 2) and Windows XP (server 1) UPDATE: I needed to remove DocumentRoot "g:/wamp/www" line :D it was there by mistake! things are working fine now. But one thing: the URL gets replaced by the local ip address any way to not make that happen?

• One Comcast Business Gateway, One Router, Two Web Servers

  I have a Comcast business account with a router and a web server (info) attached. behind the router there are multiple computers and a second web server (info) which also serves as a file server. (info) has two nics in it. One direct to comcast and one connected to the router. It needs to serve the world it's websites. It needs however, to also be able to see all the internal computers and (com)'s served files. With just 1 nic (the one connected to the router, not comcast), (info) works fine but no one outside can see it. (com) services port 80 and (info) needs to handle port 80 as well. I have two domain names registered, and 5 static ip's from comcast. right now h t t p: / /www.graceamazing.com handled by (com) works fine and h t t p: / /www.graceamazing.com:1307 handled by (info) works fine. but as soon as I enable the 2nd nic in (info) h t t p: / /www.graceamazing.info runs extremely slow (Horribly slow). however, h t t p: / /www.graceamazing.com:1307 and .com work fine. (com) has an ip address via the router 70.89.233.41 (info) has a ip addy of 70.89.233.46 via comcast (2nd nic) and a internal ip of 192.168.x.100 via static behind the router. Any suggestions or changes to make that will make h t t p: / /www.graceamazing.info perform with the same speed it has when going through h t t p: / /graceamazing.com:1307 is there a setting I should check / could have misssed?

• Installing and running two postgresql versions on different ports (or two instances of same server)

  I have postgresql 9.1 installed on my machine (Ubuntu). I need another postgresql server that would run next to the old one. Exact version does not matter, but I'm thinking of using 9.2 version. How could I properly install and run another postgresql version without screwing old one (like upgrading). So those versions would run independently on different ports. Old one on 5432 and new one on 5433 for example. The reason I need this is for two OpenERP versions databases. If I run two OpenERP servers (with different versions) on single postgresql port, it crashes because new OpenERP version detects old versions database and tries to run it, but it crashes because it uses another schemes. P.S or maybe I could just run same postgresql server on two ports? Update So far I tried this: /usr/lib/postgresql/9.1/bin/pg_ctl initdb -D main2 It created new cluster. I changed port to 5433 in new clusters directory postgresql.conf file. Then ran this: /usr/lib/postgresql/9.1/bin/pg_ctl -D main2 -l logfile start I got response server starting. But when I tried to enter new cluster's template database with: psql template1 -p 5433 I got this error: psql: could not connect to server: No such file or directory Is the server running locally and accepting connections on Unix domain socket "/var/run/postgresql/.s.PGSQL.5433"? Also now when I try to stop server with: /usr/lib/postgresql/9.1/bin/pg_ctl -D main2 -l logfile start I get this error: pg_ctl: PID file "main2/postmaster.pid" does not exist Is server running? So I don't understand if server is running and what I'm missing here? Update Found what was wrong. Stupid me. I didn't notice that when I changed port in .conf file, that line was commented already. So actually I didn't change anything first time, but thought I did and it used default 5432 port.

• How can I make Ubuntu One work on windows? It says "File Sync starting..." forever

  I'm using Ubuntu One 2.0.1 on Windows 7 64-bit, and I want to sync my files but the application refuses to. It says "File Sync starting" forever. I left it from morning to evening and it's still the same. Also, I tried reinstalling and deleting registry files then installing again but this didn't help. Im sharing my Pictures, Music and Documents folders. In Ubuntu, sync is working ok. I searched Google and found many people having same problem without a solution.

• Is it possible to prioritize which folders get synced first when using Ubuntu One?

  I face the problem that u1 syncs my files to a given order. I'd like to change that order. Consider that: On a week end I work and I may also copy the content of my photo SD card onto my notebook. The next time I boot my work computer, I might be sitting there and waiting for some hours until U1 synced/downloaded all the photos to my workstation and the files I need for work are the last in the '--waiting' list. I don't mind if Ubuntu One is a slow downloader, I would be just happy if I could define that all files in a certain folder (and all of it subfolders) always need to be downloaded first. I'm aware that there was once the possibility to move some files to the beginning of the sync list. But that was a very clumsy way with providing the folder id etc. and in the current version of u1 I can't even find it any more. Any suggestions on how to prioritize always the same folder?

AR9462 Everything worked fine on 12.04, but when I upgraded to 12.10 I experimented some issues : * wifi does work ! * still, the wifi icon/menu does not react normally : 1) it is always grey, hence not indicating if connected or not, 2) It does not react to me clicking on it (disconnect, change the network, desactive wifi, etc) So it's not a critical issue because I can change the active wifi connection through control pannel, but it is very annoying. Do you know of an solution around this issue ? thanks a lot antoine

  I am running 10.04 and I am unable to get a tray applet to appear for Ubuntu One. I am sure there was an applet in 9.04 (Jaunty) and 9.10 (Karmic). I have the package ubuntuone-client-gnome installed which Synaptic tells me "This package contains the tray applet and Nautilus extension, providing integration with the GNOME desktop." The applet is not on the "Add to panel..." list and there doesn't appear to be anything in the menus. So how do I make the applet appear?

  I am writing a java app in eclipse that backups data to several consumer-cloud-services encrypted and redundant. So far, I successfully implemented the authentication process, as it is described in the documentation. At this point, I do not know how to proceed. The next step would be implementing the auth with the stored AccessToken and afterwars implementing upload/download/listing functionality through the REST API. I think I have to store the String oauth.getSerialized(). How do I authenticate with this String afterwards? This does not work e.g.: AuthenticateResponse oauth = api.authenticate(serialized); api.setAuthorizer(new OAuthAuthorizer(oauth)); Can someone tell me please, how I can use the REST API with java? There is no explanation or link in the developers area as far as I saw. And btw, I wasted at least one hour trying to fix errors, because some needed libraries are listet after the example code. :/

• Can I speed up File Sync for Ubuntu One?

  I am using ubuntu 11.04 on my home laptop and the same on my work laptop. I just wanted to sync the work folders on my home laptop to my office laptop which is ~300Mb of data. This would normally be a short download but ubuntu-one is taking forever to sync it. Any ideas what could cause this? I am not behind any firewall or anything of that sort. I have not checked the limit bandwidth box in the preferences.

The current setup is NAT on a commodity router (it only provide simple public port to private IP address / port forwarding).   Hello everyone, I'll try to explain my situation and I'll apreciate any help: I have a phisical server (quad core, 4Gb ram, 1TB raid 10, etc) with Win Server 2008 R2 enterprise, running IIS, Printing, etc... Also, I want to set up 2 virtual Servers with 2008 R2 standart one with SQL Server and the other with Team Foundation. What i need is: Being able to access from inside the private phisical network, to Remote Desktops on each of the Virtual and the phisical Servers Had Access from the outside, using a router and port Forwarding, to the TFS server and the IIS server (one is virtualized, the other is phisical) This is it, but note that I only have one Phisical Nic. How do I configure this to work. When i set up the hyper-v role, on the wizard something like it showed up but I don't remmember what i choose, and right now, I cannot access none of the servers from remote desktop, not even from the phisical private network. Can anybody point me, what can i do? Thanks in advance (sorry 4 my english, i'm a spanish talker and my english isn't that good)

DBA quite often ignore statistics thinking it does not need to be updated, as they are automatically maintained if proper database setting is configured (auto update and auto create). Well, in this question, we have scenario even though auto create and auto update statistics are ON, statistics is not updated. There are multiple solutions but what will be your solution in this case? When to use Function and When to use Stored Procedure This question is rather open ended question – there is no right or wrong answer. Everybody developer has always used functions and stored procedures. Here is the chance to justify when to use Stored Procedure and when to use Functions. • TechEd 2010 Day Three: The Database Designer (Isn't)

  Yesterday at TechEd 2010 here in New Orleans I worked the front-booth, answering general SQL Server questions for the masses. I was actually a little surprised to find most of the questions I got were from folks that wanted to know more about Stream Insight and Master Data Services. In past conferences I've been asked a lot of "free consulting" questions, about problems folks have had from older products. I don't mind that a bit - in fact, I'm always happy to help in any way I can. But this time people are really interested in the new features in the product, and I like that they are thinking ahead, not just having to solve problems in production. My presentation was on "Database Design in an Hour". We had the usual fun, and SideShow Bob made an appearance - I kid you not. The guy in the back of the room looked just like Sideshow Bob, so I quickly held a "bes thair" contest, and he won. Duing the presentation, I explain the tools you can use to design databases. I also explain that the "Database Designer" tool in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) isn't truly a desinger - it uses non-standard notation, doesn't have a meta-data dictionary, and worst of all, it works at the physical level. In other words, whatever you do in SSMS will automatically change the field/table/relationship structures in the database. We fixed this in SSMS 2008 and higher by adding an option to block that, but the tool is not a good design function nonetheless. To be fair, no one I know of at Microsoft recommends that it is - but I was shocked to hear so many developers in the room defending it as a good tool. I think the main issue for someone who doesn't have to work with Relational Systems a great deal is that it can be difficult to figure out Foreign Keys. The syntax makes them look "backwards", so it's just easier to grab a field and place it on the table you want to point to. There are options. You can download a couple of free tools (CA has a community edition of ER-WIN, Quest has one, and Embarcadero also has one) and if you design more than one or two databases a year, it may be worth buying a true design tool. For years I used Visio, but we changed it so that it doesn't forward-engineer (create the DDL) any more, so it isn't a true design tool either. So investigate those free and not-so-free tools. You'll find they help you in your job - but stay away from the Database Designer in SSMS. Or I'll send Sideshow Bob over there to straighten you out. I'm attempting to connect the the Ubuntu One DBus service and obtain login credentials for my app, however the slots I've connected to the DBus return signals detailed here never seem to be firing, despite a positive result being returned during the connection. • Any really decent way to get three monitors?

  What satisfactory solutions are there to achieve three monitors on Ubuntu? I know some ATI cards (Eyefinity) can support 3 monitors from a single card, but I don't know how well this is supported under Linux and besides, I've never had much luck with ATI on Linux. The alternative is to try two cards, but there seem to be problems there too. It looks to me like xrandr cannot support 2 GPUs. I believe you'll end up with two separate "Screens" across which you cannot move applications or windows, unless you enable Xinerama which as I understand it disables some acceleration and probably compositing too. I've found so much conflicting information on this online, I'm really confused. Please advise!
