  • Where should I start and how to progress when learning Java EE

    I know basic stuff like, what are beans, jsp, servlet, jsf and how this stuff should work together. I know how to make basic jsp page with database query for example. Now I need to know what is the best path to learn all this stuff. My plan is to learn in this order: jsp (including persistance and JSTL) servlets + beans jsf The jump to frameworks (hibernate, struts, spring, etc) Also I'm not exactly sure about JSF, is it a must to make great pages or is it just a convenience to know?

  • XFCE4 Empty Volume Control Applet

    I just wanted to ask, what could I mess up? My situation is this: In XFCE4.10 (!) on the panel0 I put the Indicator Applet. It always showed me the volume control and network icons. When I updated to 13.10 and after cleaned some stuff, removed some orphaned package, I noticed, the volume control applet is showing mute and if I clicked on it there is an empty drowdown menu like 10x5 px.. Now it became completely useless. So my question is WHAT should I reinstall or change to get the control work?.. :/ Thanks.

    I can't seem to find a guide or reference on how to configure the 'indicator-applet' (aka MessagingMenu) that came about in the 9.04 release of Ubuntu. It's that little mail icon that lists messaging apps. I can find docs about what it should do, people complaining about how it works, references that the API changed in 9.10, but not much on how to change the configuration. The MessagingMenu design spec page says that the config file should be at $HOME/.config/indicators/messages/applications/, but there's nothing there on my install (9.10).

  • Shouldn't emesene themes change the emesene indicator icon?

    As it stands right now, I can't get the emesene icon in the indicator applet (or notification area, or whatever it's named) to change. No matter what icon theme I choose, even installing new themes, the icon is always the default one. Is that a standard behavior, or am I getting a bug? I'm running the latest version of emesene from their ppa (1.6-dev), on Lucid Lynx.

    If I run the python code below (almost entirely from this useful blog post) then I get three identical nasty looking error messages in the terminal. What might be causing them? I note the number (5857 in the example below) changes slightly on each run. What does this number signify? Is it a memory location or something similar?   • Intermittent ethernet connectivity

    I am facing a weird problem. I am connecting to my dsl modem via ethernet. After booting, sometimes Ubuntu 10.10 does not detect the eth0 card properly or does not connect to the modem. I have made the following observations: My modem is fully on. All indicators are on except ethernet, which is blinking continuously. My network indicator applet informs me that I am connected to modem, but I am not able to browse as it has not established connection with modem. I need to power off and on (restart) the modem several times OR disconnect/connect (via network applet) several times, before the system can establish a connection with the modem. Once it establishes the connection, the ethernet LED (on modem) stops blinking and glows continuously. However, I do not see this problem every time I reboot or start my computer. 3/5 time, it connects to the modem in a single attempt. Friends, I am not able to understand root cause of this problem. Plus I do not know what kind of logs should be attached. If you want any logs please give me command to run, and I will paste the result for you.   • iphone dev - activity indicator scroll with the table

    In a view of my app I subclass tableViewController and has an activity indicator shown up when the table content is loading. I put it in the center of the screen but it scroll with the tableView (I guess the reason is I add it as a subview of the table view). Is there a way that I can keep the activity indicator in the center of the screen even the table is scrolling? Thanks in advanced.

  • Windows Action Center notification icon says Backup in Progress when no backup is occurring

    How can I get Windows Action Center's little flag in the notification area to stop saying "Backup In Progress" on Windows 8? It's driving me nuts. I disabled the Windows Backup service completely and turned off File Recovery. Nothing that I can tell is using any disk I/O whatsoever, by examining Task Manager's resource monitor. It's just a visual cue that seems totally wrong considering my disk is only using about 50 KB/s of sporadic writes for superfetch etc. This wouldn't be a problem for me, since I rely on the knowledge that the Backup service is disabled and there's no disk activity, but I am trying to support a more traditional user who relies on visual cues from the operating system and trusts them over low-level observations like "...but the Windows Backup service is disabled!" Therefore this user still thinks that the backup is going on, even after the service is disabled. Technically, I think this is a bug in Windows 8. It really should not be displaying "Backup in Progress" if ... you know ... a backup, is not, in progress. Which it isn't. Is there a workaround?

  • Computer crashes and won't start, LED indicator blinks slowly

    I have a MSI K8NGM2-FID motherboard coupled with a AMD Athlon 3700+ and an Antec TPII-550 power supply. The computer crashes at random times in operation, sometimes taking a while to crash, and sometimes crashing right after Windows XP shows the desktop after boot. The CPU temperature is always in the safe range, usually 30-33 degrees Celsius, and swapping the RAM has not done anything, so the crashes aren't cause by the RAM. What could be causing this? If the motherboard were fried, would the computer even boot at all? What causes inconsistent crashing of the computer? After the computer crashes, the LED power indicator blinks about once a second, and the computer does not respond to the power button. This behavior continues until the computer's power supply is completely removed.

    BSOD constantly and the disk indicator is frozen. Error do not happen immediately, usually an hour after boot up. Here is the Minidump: Bug Check Code = 0x00000124 Caused By Driver = ntoskrnl.exe Caused By Address = ntoskrnl.exe+4b094c Crash Address = ntoskrnl.exe+4b094c Seems to be hardware problem, but I checked RAM, no error. I have two HDs installed, system is on SSD, data is on HDD. Checked SSD with the properties-tools-error-checking , no error. Re-installed several times, still happens even after removed HDD. Configuration: SSD: Crucial M4-CT064M4SSD2 with Firmware 0009 Intel HM65 CPU: i7-2630QM The SSD is set correctly, SATA III 6Gb/s enabled, and everything worked perfectly for nearly a year.

  • Multiple Progress Bar States in WPF

    I'm currently developing a WPF application in C# and I want to have a progress bar control that can be in a "paused" state as well as an "error" state. Much like this: http://wyday.com/windows-7-progress-bar/ Unfortunately, that's a Windows Forms control and implementing it via a Windows Forms Host proved to be incompatible. My question is, how can I go about accomplishing a similar effect in WPF? Is it possible to make multiple "states" of a progress bar? Is this kind of operation in WPF but I'm just looking over it? I'm mainly talking about the progress bar itself here, I'm pretty sure I know how to achieve this in the taskbar. All help is appreciated, especially code examples. Thanks!

    Hello, I am trying to use the basic progress bar however I am unable to figure out the css/command to actually put some text inside the bar. I am using this progress bar: http://docs.jquery.com/UI/Progressbar however I am open to other ones if they are just as simple to implement. I want it to display in the left corner some static information and then a percentage of complete somewhere in the right section. All css I attempted to do just made the information display below or to the side of. As well I am unsure how to actually have this CSS change based on a JQuery method (new to JQuery). below is my actual JQuery.   • Every flash uploader giving bad progress values.

    The file upload script I wrote early last year for an internal website has been misbehaving oddly on a number of machines. On some machines it consistently works fine, on others it consistently misbehaves. I am having exactly the same problem with YUI Uploader, SWFUpload (2.2 and 2.5a), and Uploadify. On the misbehaving machines, the progress event (or callback as the case may be) is reporting the upload going far too quickly. It is progressing around 9 or 10MB/s, instead of the 50 or 60kb/s that is actually going on. The progress bar fills up very quickly, and then no more progress events are triggered. A few minutes later the completion event will trigger when the upload is actually done. I must emphasize that the file upload does proceed normally, even though the progress being reported is very wrong. The progress events are reporting a correct file size, but the reported amount uploaded is usually way too high, and it appears that it is always a multiple of 2^16 (65536). I'm only having this problem with Firefox 3.5 on Windows XP, all of which have various subversions of Flash 10. Has anyone heard of this happening, or have any idea what is going on? (I'm off to go file a number of bug reports, but hopefully someone here has some previous experience with this.)

  • Adapter for circle page indicator in android

    I am currently working on an android application which have multiple pages. I am trying to use Circle page indicator to allow users view multiple pages by flipping over the screen. Each page has seperate XML file for the view and each page has a button which is bind to a java method in the Activity. I would like to know how to initalise all the buttons in the Activity for multiple pages. Because at the moment, I can only initalise the button for the first page of the views. I cannot initalise the button for second and third page. Does anyone know how to achieve this. I have placed all the jobs to be done for all the buttons in a single activity.   • XNA or C# Pop-up progress bar for the LoadContent() method

    Hey people, We wrote a small game using Microsoft's XNA Game Studio 3.1. The LoadContent() takes a long time because, other than loading models, and config files, we're also running some one-time (per run) terrain analysis. We are not C# or XNA programmers... we're Java programmers, and want to be able to give the user some feedback that the system is loading. Preferably, this will be through a simple pop-up with a progress bar that will say something simple like "loading please wait". The progress bar doesn't have to be a 0 to 1 progress bar, it can instead be one of those 'back and forth' progress bars. I was hoping for some quick copy-paste ready code to just do that - as it is not a central piece of our project, nor do we have a need to delve into too much documentation. I appreciate you time, effort, and possible donation. Thanks.
