    I was wondering if anybody can point to a post, pdf, or excerpt of a book containing the rules for C++ variable life-times and best practices for passing and returning function parameters. Things like when to pass by value and by reference, how to share ownership, avoid unnecessary copies, etc. This is not for a particular problem of mine, I've been programming in C++ for long enough to know the rules by instinct, but it is something that a lot of newcomers to the language stumble with, and I would be glad to point them to such a thing.

  • List has no value after adding values in

    I am creating a a ghost sprite that will mimic the main sprite after 10 seconds of the game. I am storing the users movements in a List<string> and i am using a foreach loop to run the movements. The problem is when i run through the game by adding breakpoints the movements are being added to the List<string> but when the foreach runs it shows that the list has nothing in it. Why does it do that? So far, I've been providing these values via a second data.frame by matching column names. What would be an efficient way of integrating fixed variable values within a function?   • Excel 2010 filter arrow not showing text values

    I have an odd problem on a tracker spreadsheet I use. All the columns have a filter, but when you click on the filter arrow it doesn't show you a breakdown of all the text values for that column. All it shows is the usual 'sort A to Z/Z to A', but the bottom half of the pop-up screen is blank, where normally you have a list of text values that you can further filter by putting a tick next to each. It only displays (Select All) which you can tick, but its pointless as the column has selected all text values and hasn't been further filtered, which is what I need to do.

    I have some spreadsheets where there are large number of cells that have essentially been used for free text. There is a finite set of values for this free text and most, if not all repeat. eg. A B C D 1 Monkey Gorilla Cat Dog 2 Dog Cat Gorilla Gorilla 3 Dog Dog Dog Cat There are probably 50 or so different cell values spread over multiple sheets and hundreds of rows and columns. I need to analyse this data and count occurancies, which is not a problem other than getting a list of unique values to start with and this has been driving me up the wall. What is the best way to produce this list. So from the above we would have Monkey Dog Cat Gorilla In order of preferred solutions, as this will need to be done monthly. For example, the first 4 rows would look like: Average Difference # + Movements # -Movements 1 2 2 1 0 3 4 (2+5+5)/3 2 1 Blanks represent N/A values due to insufficient information, and differences are calculated successively i.e. col2-col1, col3-col2, col4-col3 If I just take the differences and make a duplicate table with the formula =C2-B2 copied across issues arise whenever there is a blank space between two values or at the beginning of the row. Is there an easy way to fix this or another way to do this that I might be missing?

  • Access/update Telerik RadGrid item values in code-behind before ODS event handler

    Hi there, I need to update some of the values of the item being edited in my code-behind based on some values in a custom Edit Form on our Rad Grid. Can I access the item (and update some values) from one of the Grid's event handlers? Currently I'm storing the values in temporary variables and then injecting the new values in the ObjectDataSource's Inserting/Updating event handlers, but it would be much nicer if I could do it all in one spot. (I can't do it all in the ObjectDataSource event handlers as I can't access the controls inside my Grid's Edit Form.) I've been playing with the ExtractValues and UpdateValues methods of the GridEditableItem object, but I'm not having any luck. Any tips would be greatly appreciated :)

    I am BATTLING to get the selected values (please note VALUES not TEXT) from a Winforms Listbox that has multi-select enabled and has been bound to a database table getting the Name (as DisplayMember) and ID (as ValueMember) - I need the ID of the selected items. The listbox control has properties for SelectedValue to get one of the selected items values, but not for all selected items values. The SelectedItems property returns a Listbox.SelectedObjectCollection from which I cannot seem to extract the VALUES of the items. Please help! Thanks.

    Hello, so I want to write a matrix explorer which enables me to reorder rows and columns of a matrix. For this porpouse I used the Jtable class. Now the problem that I have is that it is very difficult to reorder a matrix by looking at double values, so I would like to print the matrix not with the double values but with circles in which the radius of the circle represents the value. So that I can tell the difference between big values and small values quicker. Anybody has any idea how I can turn this double values into filled circles with JTable or any table class for that matter?

  • MYSQL - How to increment fields in one row with values from another row

    I have a table that we'll call 'Sales' with 4 rows: uid, date, count and amount. I want to increment the count and amount values for one row with the count/amount values from a different row in that table. Example: UID | Date | Count | Amount| 1 | 2013-06-20 | 1 | 500 | 2 | 2013-06-24 | 2 | 1000 | Ideal results would be uid 2's count/amount values being incremented by uid 1's values: UID | Date | Count | Amount| 1 | 2013-06-20 | 1 | 500 | 2 | 2013-06-24 | 3 | 1500 | Please note that my company's database is an older version of MYSQL (3.something) so subqueries are not possible. I am curious to know if this is possible outside of doing an "update sales set count = count + 1" and likewise for the amount columns. I have a lot of rows to update and incrementing the values individually is quite time consuming if you can imagine. Thanks for any help or suggestions!
