Hi,
I moved my app from silverlight 3 VS2010 to a system having Silverlight 4 and VS 2010. When I open the Solution I get the following error in the MainPAge.xml.
What is wrong.
Could not resolve mscorlib for target framework 'Silverlight,Version=v3.0'. This can happen if the target framework is not installed or if the framework moniker is incorrectly formatted.
Trying to get it to behave like C#, where there is a Program class with a static Main method.
However, in the project properties, I cannot set Program.vb to be the startup object, only the forms (it is a forms application).
Am I missing something?
I am using the VS2010 and the latest VB.
Hi ,
I have an application in VS 2008, and now when I am migrating this into VS2010,
I am getting the "XAMLParseException" error on Click event.
Can anybody help me out on this.

Here is my environment
Windows7, Visual Studio 2010, MVC2.0 and NET4
My default web site is configured to use ASP.NET v4.0 application pool.
Here is an easy way to reproduce my problem
Create a new MVC2 application
Open the properties Window
Go to the Web tab
Check "Use IIS Local Web Server"
Click on "Create Virtual Directory" button
I get this error message
To access local IIS Web Sites, you must install the following IIS components:
In addition, you must run visual Studio in the context of an Administrator account
For more information, press F1
Notice the blank line after "...the following IIS components:"
I am running VS2010 as administrator
Pressing F1 does not bring any help
Hey guys, I been wondering if VSX is backwards compatible in coding, as there had been very limited and vague resources for the VS2010 add-in API.
I need to create an add-in for a project, but since I've never coded in VSX before, I was wondering if anyone knew.
Thanks in advance.
I have setup 1 project in VS2010 RC. A workflow console application that simply counts from 1 to 10000 and writes each number to console.
When I execute "F5" this application it takes minutes to finish, but when i execute this application with profiling it finishes in 3-5 seconds.
Does anyone know why?
I just installed VS 2010 and I like what I see. Can you guys share some cool things in VS2010? myself I like the Architecture explorer a lot. Looking forward to your tips.
My Visual Studio 2010 was working fine this morning (I run in in XP sP3 under Paralles) I restarted the entire laptop and I started getting this error. I even uninstalled VS2010, deleted the Visual Studio 20010 directory on the My Documents area and reinstalled it, and it is still giving me that error every time I try to start it.
I'm not sure if stackoverflow is the place to ask it, but I am at my wits end trying to get this running again (trying to avoid rebuilding the entire Virtual PC) Does anyone know how to fix this?

I have been using the RC version of VS2010 for a while now and wanted to know if anyone has a summary of what changed between the RC version and RTM. I just loaded the RTM and noticed some small things different. I searched around but can't find anything around about it. If there is nothing out there that lists these differences, can we start listing them here as you find them?
We have several external dlls being referenced in our Web Application Project. We have a deployment project for installing on the hosting servers. When we were using .net 3.5 and vs2008 the dll were being copied to the bin folder. Since we have upgraded to .net 4 vs2010 this no longer happens and we are getting servers errors since the references cannot be found.
CopyLocal is set to true, and i cannot find anything inside the web.config which suggest this is being set else where.
Hi,
I'm writing a program to notify me of new email. It's mostly complete, I'm just working on the notifyicon code now. It's supposed to display the usual application icon with a box containing the count of unread emails inside it. I created icons for this in photoshop, exported them as 16x16 transparent PNGs, then converted them into windows ico files using ConvertIcon.com.
Given that the image was 16x16 and the WinXP system tray uses 16x16 icons, I would assume the images would work. HOWEVER, when I start the application and get an email, the icon's all blurry: http://cyndle.com/bPJ7
Hi,
I'm testing a very simple WCF-Service with REST functionality enabled.
It works fine on IIS, but the VS2010 debug webserver always says "The resource cannot be found" when appending the parameter after the .svc file in the browser uri.
Is this a known issue with the asp.net debug webserver that it cannot work with REST or am I doing anything wrong? (again: with IIS, it works)
When you have a URL in source code, VS2010 allows you to Ctrl+Click on it; this opens the URL in the internal VS browser.
I'd like it to open in my default external browser (i.e. Chrome). Is there any way to configure VS to do this?
Hi,
I moved a VS Solution file from an old PC to a new PC. When I opened the solution in VS2010, I found that the database connections in database explorer was not present. Now I want the project to connect to a SQL Server database which is local to the new PC. I have moved the database files (.ldf and .mdf) to the new location and created new connection in Database explorer. But the program seems to be not fetching any data when I run it. What are the other changes I need to do?
I have a project with 100's of usercontrols. When I load the project in VS2010 and try to open a designer, the toolbox spins and spins until they're all loaded.
Winforms has a "AutoToolboxPopulate" switch under Tools/Options/Winddows Forms Designer/General.
I cannot find a similar switch for the XAML designer. Does one exist?
Appreciate all advice 0n the following questions
Which database systems (Ms SQL 2008, MS SQL Compact, or others) comes installed with VS2010 Express edition.
SQL Server 2008 R2 Express is free, can we install and integrate with VS2010 Express?
How to uninstall those database already come installed?
I have installed VS2010 express on Windows 7; just VS2010 components (VB, C#, C++ and Web Developer) and without installing any other things like SQL Express. In the Console Panel-Program & Features' window, the installed list is shown below:
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Setup Support File
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Browser
Microsoft SQL Server VSS Writer
Microsoft SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard 1.4
Microsoft ASP.NET MVC2 - VWD Express 2010 Tools
Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Management Objects
Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 ENU
Microsoft SQL Server System CLR Types
Microsoft Silverlight 3 SDK
Microsoft ASP.NET MVC 2
Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 ADO.NET Entity Framework Tools
Visual Studio 2010 Tools doe SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 ENU
Web Deployment Tool
Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010 Express - ENU
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Express - ENU
Microsoft Visual C# 2010 Express - ENU
Microsoft Visual Visual Basic 2010 Express - ENU
Microsoft SQL Server 2008
As you can see, Microsoft SQL Server 2008 (last line) and near the top, Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 ENU and many of their related SQL components such as Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Management Objects are also installed. These are actually installed by installing VS2010 Express, but I have no idea how to use them or verify their valid existence from VS2010.
Also, do I have to uninstall them before I install SQL Server 2008 R2, which is the latest version I believe? And what tool is needed to manage and create data source and tables?
As I am working with the new database projects in VS2010, and as I am learning LINQ to SQL, I am curious as to the best way to link the two groups of information so that when I update one, the other updates along with it.
From my research here at SO, as well as in Google, it appears the general rule of thumb is: "Build the database, and then create your LINQ to SQL classes." Of course, if I make a change in my database, the LINQ to SQL doesn't update automatically and I have to do it by hand. This is fairly simple right now as my database is small, but I am curious if there is an easier way for this to happen.
In addition, the LINQ to SQL tool is pretty nice. The ability to create tables, add associations, and even create inheritance is very simple. As my second question, I am curious as to whether or not VS2010 can work the other way - I design the database in the DBLM file and then link it back to my database project.
I appreciate any help with either of these two questions. I'm really interested in making this as easy as possible to reduce errors during development and improve the speed at which changes can be made.
The following C++ library was successfully compiled in VS2008
http://sourceforge.net/projects/xmlrpcc4win/files/xmlrpcc4win/XmlRpcC4Win1.0.8.zip/download
When I open it in VS2010, it goes through the conversion wizard process without any errors.
Now, when I attempt to compile it in VS2010, I get some weird STL errors like these:
1>TimXmlRpc.cpp(1018): error C2039: 'back_insert_iterator' : is not a member of 'std'
1>TimXmlRpc.cpp(1018): error C2065: 'back_insert_iterator' : undeclared identifier
1>TimXmlRpc.cpp(1018): error C2275: 'XmlRpcValue::BinaryData' : illegal use of this type as an expression
1>TimXmlRpc.cpp(1018): error C2065: 'ins' : undeclared identifier
1>TimXmlRpc.cpp(1018): error C2039: 'back_inserter' : is not a member of 'std'
1>TimXmlRpc.cpp(1018): error C3861: 'back_inserter': identifier not found
1>TimXmlRpc.cpp(1019): error C2065: 'ins' : undeclared identifier
1>TimXmlRpc.cpp(1031): error C2039: 'back_insert_iterator' : is not a member of 'std'
1>TimXmlRpc.cpp(1031): error C2065: 'back_insert_iterator' : undeclared identifier
1>TimXmlRpc.cpp(1031): error C2275: 'std::vector<_Ty>' : illegal use of this type as an expression
1> with

1>TimXmlRpc.cpp(1031): error C2065: 'ins' : undeclared identifier
1>TimXmlRpc.cpp(1031): error C2039: 'back_inserter' : is not a member of 'std'
1>TimXmlRpc.cpp(1031): error C3861: 'back_inserter': identifier not found
1>TimXmlRpc.cpp(1032): error C2065: 'ins' : undeclared identifier
I'm not sure what to make of some of these. For instance,
back_insert_iterator is in fact a member of std, but VS doesn't seem to think it is.
How do I fix errors like these? They just don't seem to make much sense so I'm not sure where to begin. Perhaps its something in my project settings?
For example, here is line 1018, which gives the std error:
std::back_insert_iterator<BinaryData> ins = std::back_inserter(*(u.asBinary));
If anyone could give me some direction I'd appreciate it. I'm new enough to C++ that I'm having a tough time figuring out this one.
I just recently installed VS2010 Beta 1 from the Microsoft website , I started a basic C++ Win32 Console Application , that generated the following code:
#include "stdafx.h"
int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[])
{
return 0;
}
I tried compiling the code just to see how it runs and just then I encountered several(over a 100) compiling errors.
Here is the first part of the build output:
1>ClCompile:

pastebin for the full list
I thought maybe the include files got mixed up by some other compiler version I have installed previously( I have VS 2008 as well) so I reinstalled VS2010 just to overwrite the headers but that didn't do much.
Thanks in advance for any help you might offer as I am helpless
I'm setting up a net.tcp WCF service using instructions here: http://blogs.msdn.com/swiss_dpe_team/archive/2008/02/08/iis-7-support-for-non-http-protocols.aspx
One of the steps says to do the following: "If you open the IIS7 management console and you look at the advance setting of our IIS7HostedService Web Application, you will see that in the Enabled Protocols section just http is defined. You now have to add net.tcp (separated by a comma), so that our service will be able to respond also to TCP requests."
This is fine, but what if I want to use the Cassini / VS2010 ASP.NET development server to debug (hitting F5 or cntrl-F5)? I don't think there's a way to change the settings in that IIS. Or is there? Are other programmers just so awesome that they don't need to go through the debugger? Or do they use wsHttpBinding?
with vs 2008 I always used Web Deployment Project to build to three different environments. It is maybe not the best solution, since I still have to xcopy the built files to the server, but it is simple.
now with vs 2010 it looks promising, but It looks also complicated. My hosting doesn't have Web Deploy, the newest feature and the flagship technology for deployment in vs2010.
My question how can I just build for each environment and copy the files over to the server. Using the Build Deployment Package will create the zip file and when I extract it, it will output so many files and confusing folder structure. Anyone has suggestion?
I'm currently developing with VS2010 RC and Silverlight 4 and ran into small problem. My project when ran, would show a version I had built about 4 hours ago. (I built the project using the Business Template) The project itself will not update, meaning all the forms, and controls.
I did the following:
Restarted my computer
Restarted Visual Studio
Deleted the xap file in the ClientBin folder on the web side
Deleted the Generated_Code folder on the client side
Deleted the xap file from the Debug folder on the client side
Opened the Solution's Configuration Manager and ensuring both my web and client projects are checked.
Rebuilt, built, and cleaned every combination of the different projects and solution
Is there a known bug or something else I can try?
I am having some issues with Entity Framework in VS2010
The problem I'm getting is described very well here...
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/adonetefx/thread/cacf6a76-09a8-4c90-9502-d8b87c2f6bea
It's basically happening when a Foreign key is pointed at the primary key of another table...but if I take off the StoreGeneratedPattern as "Identity", then it tries to insert a value into the identity field
** EDIT
So, what it seems to be is that EF4 can't handle a null relationship when the primary key is set to StoreGeneratedPattern="Identity". If I create a FK pointing to this primary key, and make it nullable (effectively creating a 0...M relationship), then it throws this compilation error.
Removing StoreGeneratedPattern="Identity" fixes the issue, but causes issues elseware
It works if the foreign key is set to not nullable
