• How do I keep second monitor (HDTV) from auto-disabling in XP when it is turned off?

  I have a new 32" TV that I hooked up to the HDMI port on the back of my video card to use as a second monitor. I used an HDMI/DVI cable to hook it to the TV, and whenever I turn my TV off, XP disables the device tied to the TV so each time I want to use the TV as the monitor, I have to go into my display properties and enable it; it gets pretty annoying. How do I turn this 'feature' off? -- I have an NVidia card should it be specific to the nvidia control panel.

• Why cant I get 3 monitors working with my ati 5770

  I have an ati 5770, card with vga, dvi and hdmi output. I can only get 2 out of the 3 monitors working at once, however i can change the configuation so that all monitors can be selected, but only 2 will work at once.. 2 of my monitors have dvi inputs and one has vga. in my catyalist control center it shows all 3 monitors are there but either 2 can be selected at a time, and so the same with my windows 7. I have and adapter which i use on the 3rd monitor, hdmi-dvi adaptor and it works. also when i boot up my pc i get 2 monitors booting up and when windows starts the 3rd monitor boots but the 1st one closes. I looked at my package box and it actualy does specify ati eyefinity technology is available with this card. why wont it work???

• Stream Music To Ventrilo From ESXi VM

  I would like to stream music to my Ventrilo server from a Windows XP virtual machine running on an ESXi host. I have followed the instructions outlined here to stream music from something like VLC to the Ventrilo server on another machine and it works fine. I have also added the lines: sound.present = "TRUE" sound.virtualDev = "es1371" sound.fileName = "-1" sound.autodetect = "TRUE" to my .vmx file, as suggested here (http://communities.vmware.com/thread/191878), to get a sound card in my VM. The problem I am having is that it seems that my VM is not outputting any sound, so there's nothing to stream through Ventrilo. The Device Manager on the VM shows that this new sound card has drivers and doesn't appear to have any concerns with it. Can someone point me in the right direction to get my desired outcome? Thanks! • after upgrade to outlook 2013 Contacts have the default picture in reading pane

  I'm using Windows 8 on a domain (using a domain account not a Microsoft account) connecting to Exchange, all my Contacts were outlook contacts with pictures and other data, I could see the picture of the contact in the reading pane and people pane while using Outlook 2010. After the upgrade to Outlook 2013 I can see my outlook contacts but it appears that they are unavailable in the reading pane because all i can see is the default picture (the default picture picture is also visible in the notifications). If I put the mouse over the name of the people while in the reading pane all I can see is the card with the default info (the only data is that the contact is available in the next 8 hours), if i compose a new message and hover the name of the contact i can see the card with all the data (picture, company, etc.). Is this the default behavior in Outlook 2013 if you are in a domain and not connected to any service or there is a way to show the picture of my contacts in every part of outlook?

• What is this Cable for? 4 Pin to 2 Pin from Riser to Perc in Dell R410

  I got a new raid card for a R410 server since the S300 that came with it doesn't support raid with Linux (No work around for this if SAS from what I could find). Anyways, the RAID card has 2 pins on it and there is a cable that that connects to a 4 pin connection on the riser. The cable only has two wires, one black and one red. What is this cable for? My guess would be maybe LED status for the front panel or something like that, but I am just guessing....

• OpenGL support no longer available

  I've been using OpenGL hardware acceleration in programs such as Adobe Photoshop CS4 and Adobe After Effects CS4. I've noticed that recently the options for OpenGL previews are disabled because my graphics card seems to not support OpenGL. But that doesn't make any sense whatsoever. I know for a fact that my graphics card does have support for OpenGL and it worked before. I checked for driver updates just the other day. Anybody know what's going on? • Bridge virtual machines out WLAN interface

  It seems that my wlan card (intel 5100 AGN) firmware doesn't allow "spoofing" MAC addresses. This has the side effect of destroying the capability to bridge out my virtual machines on that interface. Apparently this is a common thing on wlan cards. I can see the incoming traffic just fine in my virtual machines, but their DHCP queries don't get bridged out of the WLAN card. It works perfectly well when using the wired ethernet port. Is there a workaround for this? MAC-NAT or something? I don't want to route my virtual machines out to the Internet because I don't want my host OS to even have an IP address. I'm using Linux and KVM for virtualization.

  I am trying to install the Chromium OS on an EEE PC 901, and I have succeeded in using Image Writer for Windows 0.2r23 to copy the IMG file to an SDHC card. Since the OS speed is limited by slow card access, I'd like to install the Chromium OS on the second, unused, internal SSD Drive, D:. However, Image Writer doesn't allow me to restore an internal drive from an IMG file. To be clear: I boot in XP on C: then run Image Writer to install the Chromium OS. Does anyone know how I can either convince Image Writer that D: is a removable drive or know of alternative program that will let me restore D: from an IMG file (non-windows file system)?

• PC monitors shut off and system hangs while playing 3D games, but sound continues - Diagnosis?

  Two days ago, I started running into a problem with my Windows PC: The PC's two connected monitors simultaneously lose signal and go black (as though the PC had been powered off). The keyboard's Numlock, Capslock, and Scroll Lights will become "stuck" in their current positions, as though the PC is hung. (For example, the Numlock light on the keyboard remains lit regardless of me pressing the Numlock key repeatedly.) No keyboard input does anything. (Ctrl+Alt+Del, Ctrl+Shift+Esc, Ctrl+C, etc.) However -- Whatever sound/music the PC was playing continues to play, and the PC's fans continue running, so the PC hasn't powered itself off or rebooted itself. Opening up the case, the graphics card is pretty hot to the touch. I had this happen 3 times in one evening. In all cases, I was playing a game with 3D graphics when the problem occurred (Torchlight, Minecraft, Magic: The Gathering 2012, Avadon: The Black Fortress demo). I have yet to have the problem happen when I'm not playing a game. This system has been running stable for about 2.5 years prior to this. I didn't make any changes to the system prior to the problem starting to occur. System specs: OS: Windows 7 64-bit Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 Wolfdale 2.53GHz Video Card: XFX GeForce 9800 GT 512 MB Motherboard: Foxconn P45A-S LGA 775 Intel ATX RAM: Corsair 4 GB (2x 2GB) DDR2-800 (PC2 6400) Full specs: New PC 2008 Troubleshooting tried so far (the problem occurred again after taking each of these steps, one at a time): Updated the video drivers with the latest drivers from NVidia's site. Opened up the case and cleaned out the video card and processor fans (both were pretty dirty). Installed and ran temperature monitor software. The processor idles at about 50 degrees C, and goes up to about 63 degrees C while playing a game (seems on the warm side, but not excessively so?). The software wasn't able to report the temperature of the GPU -- not sure this particular GPU supports software temperature readout? My initial diagnosis is that maybe the GPU is on its last legs (given that it seems to be running pretty hot, and the problem only occurs while playing 3D games). Does this seem likely? Or is it likely that this problem is caused by the processor, RAM, or motherboard? Or could this be a software issue of some kind? Thanks for any advice!

The script itself works fine (it copies the contents of the cards), but the automounting and execution of the script is where I'm having issues. What I'm really after is a solution that automounts each of the cards as they are inputted into the reader; and executes a script for them (this will involve copying their contents to another directory). Going mount /dev/disk/by-path/pci-0000\:00\:1d.7-usb-0\:4.4\:1.0-scsi-0\:0\:0\:0-part1 Works and places the card under /media/usbdisk/, however: mount /dev/disk/by-path/pci-0000\:00\:1d.7-usb-0\:4.4\:1.0-scsi-0\:0\:0\:0-part1 slot1/ doesn't work, and returns "mount: can't get address for /dev/disk/by-path/pci-0000" Any ideas and solutions would be great, I've seen the knowledge of a lot of the guys on here before so I'm hopeful someone can help me out. • Recommendations for a JetDirect print server for USB 2.0 printers?

  I have been using some older HP JetDirect 300x print servers for a variety of parallel printers over the years. These things work great for every printer I have tried them with, including HP's, Dell's, and even a Mountbatten braille embosser! These have been a boon for printers whose internal network cards fail, but whose parallel ports continue working. I don't have to throw away the $500 printer that is one year and a week old, and can keep using it for many, many years. Now that very few printers are coming with parallel ports, but are coming solely with USB connections and network cards. When the network card fails but the printer is still usable, I want to continue using it on the network with a JetDirect card. In summary: Does anyone have any recommendations for JetDirect cards that will work as well with USB 2.0 printers of unspecified manufacturer that my old JetDirect 300x cards do?

• Realtek HD Audio playing weird with certain video formats

  Hi, I have a Gigabyte motherboard with an onboard Realtek HD sound card. The card is working perfectly everywhere, except for a single video format, where the voice is distorted, sounds as if it's been passed through a metal tube. Been googling for this, but couldn't find an answer anywhere. The movie plays fine on other systems (got Linux everywhere else), but on this one (winXP-x64-sp2) it just doesn't. • Dell Dimension running Fedora12 does a "Sleeping Beauty" and I am not am not a "handsome prince"!

  Dell Dimension 2350 with a Pentium IV processor and integrated video and network chips running Fedora12 does a "Sleeping Beauty" and I, apparently, am not am not a "handsome prince"! The system puts video and network to sleep and it will not wakeup. I have heard of this problem on laptops, but this is a tower. Any ideas or help is appreciated. I tried to ping the network card from another system and ping fails. The logs indicate that the system continues to be active. Pressing keyboard short-cut keys makes the disk light blink but neither the video or network card comes alive. Failing all else, are there any Linux commands that I could schedule in cron to pulse video and network adapters hourly that will keep them awake? Or, should I wait on Fedora13? Before this machine, I built a Dimension 2400 with Pentium IV and it had the same problem. Fedora9 on the same hardware is fine.

• Ubuntu 9.10 x64 has no sound, while Ubuntu 9.04 32 bit does.

  I installed Ubuntu 9.10 x64 recently. Up until now I've been on 32 bit Ubuntu. For the first time since installing it, I went and tried to play a Youtube video. There was no sound. So a quick test to the system reveals that nothing will play sound (And I've tried turning the volume too full, as some have said output is quite quiet, but there is no sound at all). Further research shows that in sound preferences, the only output device listed was Dummy Output. Why would it work in 9.04 x86 and not 9.10 x64? While booting up, and occasionally with the sound preferences dialog open, I get a loud click (even though it isn't recognising my sound card). It's a Dell Studio 17 laptop. I'm not sure what the exact model of sound card is.

  I am using wireshark in monitor mode to capture all the frame. I buffered all the QosData in order to calculate the biterate of each station on the network. I calculate the biterate but it is not an accurate value. what i need to know is when the station use the network alone and when it uses it with another station? i know if two station with different wifi card for exemple ( st1 802.11g 54 Mb/s, st2 802.11n 300 Mb/s) if st1 uses alone the line the biterate used is 28 MB/s and if st2 uses alone the network the bit rate increase to approximately 150Mb/s but if the two station use the network at the same time the st1 lost about 80% of its bit rate because of the st1 wifi card thx in advance
