• Format as NTFS without Journal

  I have a flash drive that I'd like to format for use in Windows. I would like support for symbolic links, so I can't use FAT/FAT32/exFAT. I would prefer to use the ext4 filesystem and disable journaling, with the Ext2Fsd filesystem driver, but have (so far) found that I can't make soft links across filesystems that Windows will read, Ext2Fsd has an annoying bug about always mounting partitions as read-only and has problems resuming from sleep, and some programs have problems writing to the partition even after manually configuring Ext2Fsd to allow writes. So, I would like to use NTFS for the flash drive, but disable the journaling feature (causes extra writes), if possible. How can I do this?

• Bookmarks folder on two machines not syncing

  I have Chromium installed on a Ubuntu 12.04 machine and Chrome on a Windows 7 machine. Both are updated to newest stable release. I am logged in on both machines with the same Google account. I created a folder A on my Windows machine and bookmarked some pages. A few hours later and before the folder appeared, I created a folder named A on the Ubuntu machine and continued adding links to it. Now, both the folders are not syncing and contain links local to each machine only. Is there any way to resolve this?

• Recover an HP recovery partition from an offline drive

  I have a (semi)-dead hard drive with an HP recovery partition on it. My goal is to 1-Buy a new hard drive (checked) 2-Copy the recovery partition to a drive ( dd if=/dev/sdb1 of=~/recovery.bak ) 3-Make a new partition of 12000 mb with Windows 7 4-Copy back recovery partition to the new drive ( dd if=~/recovery.bak of=/dev/sdb1 ) Then press F11 when the laptop boots however it does NOT work. Any idea why? It seemed quite fool proof...

• Program to download .torrent file from a Magnet URI?

  I have a Torrent app running on my home server that has an outdated but pretty useful web interface. The one problem is that it doesn't take magnet links, only .torrent files. I'd like to continue using this and not have to bother with finding a different program. Given that magnet links are just a pointer to download the torrent file from the swarm, I'm hoping there's a program out there that will take a magnet link and spit out a .torrent only. I know I could put it into µTorrent and grab the file from the app's directory, but that's a bit roundabout, and I'd like something that will do it semi-unattented. Preferably for OS X, but Linux (or a web app) would work too.

• Command-line HTTP crawler for Windows?

  Would somebody have a recommendation for a web site crawler that can be invoked and equipped with settings from the command line? This would need to run in a Windows environment. Saving the data, following stylesheet links etc. is not an issue. I only need the crawler to start with a page, parse it, and follow all the links on the same domain so that in the end, all pages on the site have been requested once. Background: I'm setting up a web site that gets frequently uploaded from an office location. Combining data from various sources, it has several levels of caching. I don't want the first user to visit the site after a fresh upload to have to wait until the page has been generated and saved in the cache.

• Ubuntu, control the init startup

  Ubuntu uses upstart instead of sysvinit. However there are still runlevels and the links in them. I have installed tor and it has added itself to the startup of the OS. Now I want to remove it and the popular options are to remove the links of starting and stopping the service from runlevels or make the /etc/init.d/ script non-executable. This is fine but this will be problematic in case I want to put tor again on the startup list. How would I know to put the proper sequences in the proper runlevel directories. Is there any complete guide given? What are the rules for this? Any tools to manage the init? Please tell

• What is the easiest video editing program to use on Windows

We just need basic editing and titling features for making videos of our kids slightly more watchable. Nothing too fancy. The major requirement is that it needs to be extremely easy to use even without prior editor experience. We're running Windows XP on some machines and Vista the rest. • Apache SSL losing session over load balancer

  I have two physical Apache servers behind a load balancer. The load balancer was supposed to be set up so that a user would always be sent to the same physical server after the first request, to preserve sessions. This worked fine for our web apps until we added SSL to the setup. Now the user can successfully login, see the home page, but clicking on any other internal links logs the user right out. I traced the issue to the fact that while initial authentication is performed by server 1, clicking on internal links leads to having the request sent to server 2. Server 2 does not share sessions with server 1, and the user is kicked out. How can I fix it? Do I need to share sessions between the two servers? If so, could you point me to a good guide for doing this? Thanks.

• Why is awstats reporting my static IP instead of Domain Name?

  In AWStats under: "Links from an external page (other web sites except search engines)" it has generated a list of pages that had linked to my page. I see pages like: Bing, YouTube, HotFrog, etc.. However, there are many internal links within the pages.   After discovering and replacing my dead PSU, I was able to boot back into Windows. Everything seems to be working fine, however, one hard drive is not. Windows 7 says that this SATA hard drive needs to be formatted before it can work. Can the data be recovered?   Hi, I am baffled by some entries in my server logs, specifically the web-server logs. Other than normal, expected traffic, I have noticed three types of request errors (eg 404, etc.): Broken links, ie links from old, external pages that point to pages that are no longer here Sequences of probes, ie some jerk trying to hack in by scanning my server for a series of exploitable admin type pages and such What appear to be completely random requests for things that have never existed on the server or even have anything to do with the server, and appear by themselves (ie not a series of requests like the probes) Could it somehow be a mistyped URL or IP? That’s about the only thing that I can think of, but still, how could I get a request on say, foobar.dyndns.org (12.34.56.78) for something like www.wantsfly.com/prx2.php or /MNG/LIVE or http://ant.dsabuse.com/abc.php?auth=45V456b09m&strPassword=X%5BMTR__CBZ%40VA&nLoginId=43. (Those are a few actual requests from my logs.) Can someone please explain scenario three to me? Thanks.
