  • f12 and ctrl + f5 not working correctly

    When I came back to my work computer after being away for a week I found out when I try to clear the cache and refresh the page via ctrl + f5 (or just f5) I get the prompt "Type the Internet address of a document, and Internet Explorer will open it for you" with a drop down list in IE. When I try f5 in Chrome and FF it opens the "Open file" dialog box. When I try to f12 for Dev tools in IE, Chrome & FF it opens up the print dialog box. Why is this happening and what can I do to revert it back to the way it was?

  • Did MS break IE with update on 2010-01-12?

    I have 4 computers at 2 completely seperate clients that have all experienced the same problem on the same day. Internet Explorer 7 is returning "Page not Found" for all sites. The real kicker is that all other Internet works, including Firefox. At least one of the machines is Vista. Not sure on the other 3. At least 2 of the machines have no proxy server set so it isn't that. Did Microsoft push an automatic update that broke IE7 on Tuesday 2010-01-12? Has anyone else experienced this problem in the last week? This can't be a coincidence. Apart from being located in the same town and being supported by my company (we didn't change anything) these clients have nothing in common except they use Windows and they browse with IE. These machines probably share other traits, like having Spybot installed, however removing Spybot changed nothing. Also, of course i got them to reboot. Still broken.

  • Internet zone is opened when broswer is opened from installer created by .Net 3.5sp1

    Hi All, I have project created in VS2005 and .Net 2.0. The installation is a web-based installation. After installing the proe-requisites the installer opens up the browser to continue with web-based install. On this, it opens up in intranet zone and works perfectly. I recently migrated the project to VS2008 Sp1 and .Net 3.5sp1. No change in my code and the test environment. Here the browser gets opened up in the Internet zone which prevents it from moving forward, until unless I open up a new browser manually and copy paste the url. The internet security options on the both the case are - Internet --- High. For the case2, if i have the security internet option to be 'Medium', it works well. I am not sure why this issue comes up when I change the VS and .Net version. More over the browser gets opened with system priveleges rather than administrator privileges.     When I have multiple browser windows open, I don't know how to control which is chosen to open a new link - when that link is selected in a non-browser application. For example, when I click a web link in OneNote or Word, the already-open browser that is chosen is whichever one of my Internet Explorer windows happens to have the least number of open browsing tabs. I would like to change that behavior. I'd like that each newly opened page, as selected from a non-browser app, always goes to the last internet explorer window I had active. Can this be done?

  • How to display recently installed programs and when they were installed?

    I have a Windows XP and I just installed about 12 new programs. Big mistake! Before I installed these programs, my internet connection was running great. But now after installing and restarting my laptop, the internet is crawling. How can I see what was changed? Hint: prior to installing these 12 programs, I installed IE version 8. So probably if I removed that it would fix it, but the problem is I need IE in order for my SQL/C# web application to work properly.

  • Chrome - Why am I automatically authenticated to a web app even after clearing browser cookies?

    I am accessing a web application using Chrome. If I sign out of the app and clear all Chrome history/cookies/etc (even Flash cookies which are now handled by Chrome in the same Clear History area) and then re-access the site, I am automatically logged in without being prompted for credentials. I then launched Chrome in Incognito mode and was able to reproduce the same behavior. However, the I was prompted upon the first logon while in Incognito mode. The web application behaves as expected in Internet Explorer 10. Some info about the application: It's a Sharepoint site using NTLM authentication The credentials are Active Directory-based, as the username is domain\username My connection is over the Internet and there is no AD relationship between my local Windows account, my Windows PC. In other words I (meaning my locally logged on user and my PC) are not in any way part of their AD domain. The site is running SSL on port 443 Why might Chrome be automatically authenticating me?

  • Gentoo box can't cURL or ping after restarting net.eth1

    Hi all, the following is completely baffling me. We currently have a gentoo box which acts as our LAMP, DNS, DHCP server. This is assigned a static IP on the network. This server is connected directly to the internet via a BT BusinessHub Router. The server is also connected to a patch panel/switch port which connects the remaining office (around 10 PC's) to the server. Everything has been plain sailing until the other day when the server was restarted. For some reason now only portions of network accessibility is available depending on which ethernet device was last restarted. Restarting net.eth0 allows the office server to cURL, ping, etc but stops all networked PC's from accessing the internet. Then restarting net.eth1 restores all internet to the network but stops the server from curling, pinging, etc again. However, even when the server can't ping, curl, etc, I can still remote SSH and remote MySQL connect from the server command line to other external servers that we own.   • Looking for a new, free firewall (Sunbelt has a huge hole)

    I've been using Sunbelt Personal Firewall v. 4.5 (previously Kerio). I've discovered that blocking Firefox connections in the configuration doesn't stop EXISTING Firefox connections. (See my post here yesterday http://superuser.com/questions/132625/sunbelt-firewall-4-5-wont-block-firefox) The "stop all traffic" may work on existing connections - but I'm done testing, as I need to be able to be selective, at any time. I was using the free version, so the "web filtering" option quit working after some time (mostly blocking ads and popups), but I didn't use that anyway. I used the last free version of Kerio before finally having to go to Sunbelt, because Kerio had an unfixed bug where you'd eventually get the BSOD and have to reset Kerio's configuration and start over (configure everything again). So I'm looking for a new Firewall. I don't like ZoneAlarm at all (no offense to all it's users that may be here - personal taste). I need the following: (Sunbelt has all these, except *) - 1. Be able to block in/out to localhost (trusted)/internet selectively for each application with a click (so there's 4 click boxes for each application) [*that effects everything immediately, regardless of what's already connected]. When a new application attempts a connection, you get an allow/deny/remember windows. - 2. Be able to easily set up filter rules for 'individual application'/'all applications,' by protocol, port/address (range), local, remote, in, out. [*Adding a filter rule also doesn't block existing connections in Sunbelt. That needs to work too.] - 3. Have an easy-to-get-to way to "stop all traffic" (like a right click option on the running icon in the task bar). - 4. Be able to set trusted/internet in/out block/allowed (4 things per item) for each of IGMP, ping, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and broadcasts. - 5. Define locahost as trusted/untrusted, define adapter connections as trusted/untrusted. - 6. Block incoming connetions during boot-up and shutdown. - 7. Show existing connections, including local & remote ip/port, protocol, current speed, total bytes transferred, and local ports opened for Listening. - 8. An Intrusion Prevention System which blocks (optionally select each one) known intrustions (long list). - 9. Block/allow applications from starting other applications (deny/allow/remember window). Wish list: A way of knowing what svchost.exe is doing - who is actually using it/calling it. I allowed it for localhost, and selectively allowed it for internet each time the allow/deny window came up. Thanks for any help/suggestions. (I'm using Windows XP SP3.)

  • a couple of questions about proxy server,vpn & how they works

    I have a couple of questions that are related to security. Correct me if i'm wrong :) If I want to request something (ex: visiting www.google.com): my computer will request that then it will to the ISP then to my ISP proxy server that will take the request and act as a middle man in this situation ask for the site (www.google.com) and retrieve it then the proxy will send it back to me. I know that its being done like that. So, my question is that, in this situation my ISP knows everything and what I did request, and the proxy server is set by default (when I ask for an internet subscription). So, if I use here another proxy (lets assume that is a highly anonymous and my ISP can't detect my IP address from it), would I visit my ISP and then from my ISP it will redirect me to the new proxy server that I provide? Will it know that there is someone using another proxy? Or will it go to another network rather than my ISP? Because I didn't get the view clearly. This question is related to the first one. When I use a VPN, I know that VPN provides for me a tunneling, encryption and much more features that a proxy can't. So my data is travelling securely and my ISP can't know what I'm doing. But my questions are: From where is the tunneling started? Does it start after I visit the ISP network (since they are the one that are responsible for forwarding my data and requests)? If so, then not all my connection is tunneled in this way, there is a part that is not being tunneled. Since, every time I need to do anything I have to go to my ISP and ask to do that. Correct me if I misunderstand this. I know that VPN can let my computer be virtually in another place and access its resources (ex: be like in my office while I'm in my home. This is done via VPN). If I use a VPN service provider so that I can access the internet securely and without being monitored by my ISP. In this case, where is my encrypted data saved? Is it saved in my ISP or in the VPN service provider? If I use a VPN, does anyone on the internet know what I'm doing or who I am? Even the VPN service provider? Can they know me? I think they should know the person that is asking for this VPN service, am I right?

  • IE10 does not open .pdf

    I can't open any PDFs in IE10 on Win7 64bit. I've tested with PDFs from Intranet / Internet / local file system, http and https. I've tested installing/uninstalling Acrobat Reader 11.0.03 and the Nitro PDF Reader. I've also tried enabling/disabling the Tools Internet Options Advanced Security Do not save encrypted pages to disk option. In Google Chrome PDFs are opened in the Acrobat Reader Plugin, but in IE10 the only thing I always get is a small cross in the top left corner of the browser. Can anybody help me?

  • How do I send data between two computers over the internet

    I have been struggling with this for the entire day now, I hope somebody can help me with this. My problem is fairly simple: I wish to transfer data (mostly simple commands) from one PC to another over the internet. I have been able to achieve this using sockets in Java when both computers are connected to my home router. I then connected both computers to the internet using two different mobile phones and attempted to transmit the data again. I used the mobile phones as this provides a direct route to the internet and if I use my router I have to set up port forwarding, at least, that is how I understand it. I think the problem lies in the method that I set up the client socket. I used: Socket kkSocket = new Socket(ipAddress, 3333); where ipAddress is the IP address of the computer running the server. I got the IP address by right-clicking on the connection, status, support. Is that the correct IP address to use or where can I obtain the address of the server? Also, is it possible to get a fixed name for my computer that I can use instead of entering the IP address, as this changes every time I connect to the internet using my mobile phone? Alternatively, are there better methods to solving my problem such as using http, and if so, where can I find more information about this? Thanks!

  • 2 workstations won't connect to most websites, but will connect to some

    I have a very frustrating issue I wasn't able to solve: 2 workstations which are used by the same user are not able to connect to most websites receivin a timeout, however they will load some websites specificly from my country. They are able to get the website addresses via DNS. Both stations have their internet connection through a remote router. Other stations in the same LAN are connecting fine. Here's what I tried: Virus scan Renewing IPs Reseting the workstations Moving one workstation to a different RJ-45 in the wall Reseting the hub and switch Checking the hosts file DNS flush Nothing seems to help. I am preparing a CD with more AV tools to see if there's anything hiding on the stations. UPDATE: It was an incorrect configuration in "Internet Options". I configured the correct proxy and now it works.

  • Windows xp - recover document opened directly from IE

    Hi Attempting to help a family member recover a document. The word 2007 document was downloaded and opened directly from a webmail interface using Internet Explorer running on Windows XP. The user saved the document multiple times while working on it for the good part of a day. After closing Word 2007 the user is not able to locate the document, and I have so far not been able to help. The computer has not been turned off, and the user has not attempted to open the document directly from the mail again. Recreating the events on vista/windows 7 its easy enough to locate the document under the Temporary Internet Files folder. I have however not been able to do the same on a Windows XP. Any suggestion for how to locate this document, or if its even possible? Thanks

Never update anything? 2. What happens if Windows or some other program is set to update automatically and attempts to do so while you are using a public Wi-Fi?     Hi, I have done changes in registry (proxy settings) via Windows programming code. I have to restart (reopen) Internet Explorer each time I run the code to make those changes take effect. Is there any API in Windows programming through which I can notify Internet Explorer or Windows that changes are made to the registry and there will not be any need to reopen Internet Explorer to make those changes take effect?   • Computer freezes, wireless network icon disappears

    As you can see I have two problems. I have a Toshiba Tecra A3 computer. It is 5-6 years old and it is connected to a D-link router. For a period now it has not been working correctly. The computer freezes either when i try turning it on or when I have been using the computer for a short period of time. The times the computer works normally I have a problem with a disappearing wireless network icon, and so I have no internet. Can this be fixed or do I have to buy a new computer? I only use the computer for internet surfing and easy tasks like word etc, so I would like to keep it as long as possible.

Check that the destinationsite is in IE's 'Trusted Sites' (accessed from Tools-Internet Options in the 'Security' tab) If it is a trusted site, then the request may have taken more thana minute to finish." i've done what's said. but when looking at the browsers the page is loaded, but still this message continues. i've already tried as simon told me: "(16:32:54) simonstewart: ponto: http://code.google.com/p/selenium/wiki/FrequentlyAskedQuestions#Q:_The_does_not_work_well_on_Vista._How_do_I_get_it_to_work_as_e " but did not solve. could it be google analytics that on the background is getting data or something like that? ps: i ran the test on firefox and it works well. i've tried on Windows 7 and Windows XP, and Internet Explorer 7 and Internet Explorer 8.
