  My maven build started failing randomly, and it got the following error which I cannot make sense of, and googling it doesn't give me anything useful: [echo] Creating a full package... [java] Timestamp response not valid [INFO] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [ERROR] BUILD ERROR [INFO] ------------------------------------------------------------------------ [INFO] Failed to execute: Executing Ant script: /airtest.build.xml [package-admin-air]: Failed to execute. Java returned: 10 This is a random error that pops up in various point during the build process, and sometimes the build will succeed and then the next one will fail again. This is really weird, does anyone seen this before? I'm using maven 2.2.1 BTW, the error return code 10 in windows mean "Environment is invalid.:

• Eclipse users: Do you use Aptana too?

  This San Mateo development company makes a freely downloadable convenient packaging of many plugins for Eclipse called Aptana. I was recently in an environment where Aptana came pre-installed. Not only is it a good IDE for RoR, it also does a somewhat decent job (sans debugging) for PHP, Python, HTML, CSS, and Javascript. According to their own web site, their IDE also supports Adobe Air and the iPhone. If you are currently using Eclipse, then do you also use Aptana too? What, if any, are the drawbacks to using Aptana?

• Flex Datagrid File Download old value

  Hi, We use a AIR client and WAMP server. Got a weird issue with Flex datagrid. When I download an image by double clicking on a datagrid row, the file gets downloaded correctly. But when I go on to select another row for download, even though the correct parameters are being passed, it again prompts download of old file. Upon cancelling that and trying again, it picks up the selected row. • MIDI on Android: Libs and So Forth

  I've been contemplating (re)building an app on iPad for some time, where I would use objective-C and DSMI to send MIDI signals to a host computer. This is not bad (I mean, except for actually writing the app). Now I'm contemplating perhaps developing the app for Android tablets (TBA). In Java, what options are available for MIDI message communication? I'm quite familiar with javax.sound.midi, but then I would need a virtual MIDI port to send messages to the host. On the other hand, if the app were done in Adobe AIR, what options would I have available for communicating with MIDI? Obviously another option is to send/receive messages over a TCP/IP socket to a Java host, and talk that way, but it sounds a tad cumbersome... or perhaps not? DSMI does use a host program, after all.

  Hi, We have an AIR app and using a datagrid. We want to store the dataGrid.columns array in mySQL DB through PHP. This is needed because the user can customise the column headers of the datagrid and his preference needs to be stored and shown to him on his next login. Using HTTPService, we tried sending the dataGrid.columns array as a string, as follows, var ht:HTTPService = new HTTPService(); ht.url = Config.getServerURL(); ht.method = URLRequestMethod.POST; ht.resultFormat = "text"; ht.request["action"] = "updateGrid"; ht.request["headercolumns"] = colsArray.toString(); The data is stord as comma separated array string in DB. When we retrieve it back, cannot seem to cast it back to the DatagridColumns and assign it. Please let me know. Regards Jada.

• Online Image Slideshow Question. File Access Problems.

  Hi, I have a flash .swf file that I embed on my webpage. On my server I have the .swf file and multiple image folders. I would like to load every file in one of those folders into the flash slideshow. How should I go about doing this? I tried used Air but it doesn't work on my system as an application so I doubt it will work online. Eventually I plan on making a menu where you can select different folders to display and since they are of different sizes, a foreach loop would be optimal. Keeping a txt file with the number of images is also possible if theres a way to read that in, but I would prefer the more dynamic approach. I am working towards using php for the website if that helps find a solution. Thanks, -Mike Also my slideshow works great online currently but i have to hardcode in the number of files.

My day to day job is as a .NET web developer so I am looking to use VMware Fusion to run VS and SQL server etc. As I've not run my dev environment in a VM before, I would like to know how others are setup. What apps to you have installed? In which environment? Where do you store your files? Within each environment, or some shared drive? Are there any gotchas? Or essentials I should know.   I'm compiling a simple program written in C and I'm using Eclipse as an IDE, both in Windows 7 and on my MacBook Pro. Very simple program my friend wrote and asked me to help him with: int a = 0; char b[2]; printf("Input first class info:\n"); printf("Credit Hours: \n"); scanf("%d", &a); printf("Letter Grade: "); scanf("%s", b); So when I run this on my mac, each line prints and when I encounter the scanf(), I can input and continue as expected. In Windows, I have to input everything and then it will print all the lines. I'm not sure why this is happening... what is the difference b/w Windows and Mac here?   (Bubble Sort) In the bubble sort algorithm, smaller values gradually "bubble" their way upward to the top of the array like air bubbles rising in water, while the larger values sink to the bottom. The bubble sort makes several passes through the array. On each pass, successive pairs of elements are compared.   I want to use wxHaskell on OS X (Snow Leopard, MacBook Pro). I was able to install the library successfully and the script below: module Main where import Graphics.UI.WX main :: IO () main = start hello hello :: IO () hello = do f <- frame [text := "Hello!"] quit <- button f [text := "Quit", on command := close f] set f [layout := widget quit] does result in a window being displayed with a single button, as specified. However, nothing happens when I click the button - I don't even get the visual response of the button turning blue to indicate that it's been depressed (haha, no pun intended). I've heard that you have to run a package called "macosx-app" on wxHaskell binaries to get them to run, but I can't find this anywhere. It's not on my machine or (as far as I can tell) in the WX or wxHaskell distros. Anyone know what I need to do to get this to work?

• Issues with the [embed] tag and fonts

  Hi, I have some issue with the [embed] tag. Even if I set the embedFonts property of the textfield to true the text doesn't show up. The thing is that it worked previously and after some changes (not related to fonts) it doesn't. I'd like to understand how the embed process for font works to find the error in my code. I declare : [Embed(source = 'asset/font.ttf', fontName="font", mimeType="application/x-font-truetype")] private static var font:String; to assign the font to the program. Then i call "font" when declaring my textFormat. Is the "fontName" property the link with the textformat ? I work with flashdevelop and the flex_sdk_4.0.0.14159 (the big adobe one, with air (~140mo)) Thx ! -Leg

• I'm installing mysql with homebrew, how do I set value to 'log_output'?

  I've been following directions here: brew install mysql on mac os and have now run into the same issue both on my home machine and work (both MacBook Pro running OSX 10.7.5 and ZSH): 121031 12:18:03 [ERROR] /usr/local/opt/mysql/bin/mysqld: Error while setting value '/Users/me/.mysql/logs/' to 'log_output' The full output of the error can be found in this gist: https://gist.github.com/3988275 I'm really at a loss for what I'm doing incorrectly or what I need to change.   Hello, I'm developing a MVC .Net site and would like to implement a CMS system. So far I have looked at Umbraco, which looks good but the help is poor and the getting started video section is empty, and dotnetnuke, which again looks good but I get the impression its aimed at non developers, plus to has much more than I need and want. In my last job I created a basic custom CMS system that worked by simply adding values into the database, the application called the text from there. it worked fine but I don’t have the source code. what I'm after is a simple CMS system that really just controls text and images, I dont need all the fancy stuff thats in umbraco and dotnetnuke, all the design and CSS i can do myself. also as im working with MVC (which is awesome, and such a breath of fresh air compared to the web forms/telerik crap I have to put up with at work) it needs to be compatible. A simple CMS, can anyone provide any suggestion ? Truegilly

• Trying to Install Rails 3

  I'm trying to install Rails 3 on a brand new MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.3, Ruby 1.8.7, and Rails 2.3.5 and I'm wondering if I've hosed myself. So far, I've run these commands: $ gem update --system $ gem install arel tzinfo builder memcache-client rack rack-test rack-mount erubis mail text-format thor bundler i18n $ gem install rails --pre However, when I run the last command, I get this error: ERROR: While executing gem ... (Gem::FilePermissionError) You don't have write permissions into the /usr/bin directory. I think it wants me to run the command with sudo so that it can write over /usr/bin/rails. But if I do that, won't I be overwriting my Rails 2.3.5 executable? I don't want to do that. Instead, I'd like to keep both versions of Rails. Can anyone help? Thanks.

  Hi, I need to give one client the ability to convert some videos to f4v h264 before loading it up to an AIR app. I normally doing with the Adobe Media Encoder CS4 but that only ships with adobe products (you can't download it as a free standalone app - which, start rant is odd, you'd think they would push the format - Microsoft's competing expresssion encoder is free end rant) Anyway, I need to get a (hopefully not too expensive, but willing to pay for it) good 3rd part app that can take any video and convert it to an f4v. Can you suggest any? Everything i've found is horrible or jammed with ads and crap. What would you use? Any suggestion? (please don't just say ffmpeg - I know it can do it but we need to good simple GUI) Thanks!

• "Compiling" content with short tags to var, without eval()

  To start off, let me clear the air by saying we are aware of the dis/advantages to using short tag syntax in PHP. That is not what this question is about. Is there a way to "include" a file containing short tag code, into a variable, and have PHP actually parse the code? include/require obviously do not provide the data in a workable form, and output buffering does not parse the short tag code because it happens at runtime. Using eval() is simply not an option. Suggestions?

• How can I display a hidden view in Interface Builder which is on a unattached monitor?

  I am using Interface Builder to work on NIBs and one of the NIBs must have a view on my external monitor which is not attached because I cannot see it on my MacBook. I have had this problem with editing iPad NIBs which I work on with my larger external monitor. For some reason Interface Builder is not detecting that there is now just one screen and not pulling this view onto this monitor. There has to be a way to get this back into the visible space so that I can work on it. I have tried double clicking on the view icon in the organizer which normally brings the view forward but it is not coming into view. What can I do? Is this really a bug that has been around this whole time?

• Is there a way of combining Ogre3d's Hikari and BlazeDS?

  I am trying to load a swf into an Ogre3d/Hikari application and that swf uses BlazeDS to communicate with a Tomcat server. The swf is from another project that is used in a browser environment. So, the swf is served from Tomcat to the client's browswer. It seems like there are two main issues. The first is a sandbox issue with using the swf in a different sandbox type than a browser environment. The other issue seems to be setting up the BlazeDS message broker and the other communication channels and endpoints. As far as both of the issues are concerned, it seems like the Hikari application is similar to an Adobe Air application and can use similar approaches. Does this seem like a reasonable approach? Does anybody have any similar experiences? If so, how were things configured?

• Suggestions for VS+Resharper keyboard shortcuts on a Mac

  I just upgraded to a Macbook Pro as my development machine but still primarily develop .Net applications with Visual Studio and Resharper (via VMWare Fusion). By far, the biggest obstacle I'm running into is getting used to the keyboard layout change (ex. not being able to do ALT-Insert). Do any of you Windows-on-Mac veterans have any suggestions on how to ease the pain of transitioning (without moving to an external keyboard)? Are you changing mappings via VMWare's keyboard preferences? Or are you using something like AutoHotkey? Any other windows development tips for a Mac newb?

But how can i check whether the date is passed 2 days or not? Right now I am checking with the current system date.But when the user changes the system date to back, it will start to work which i dont want.   I have a BlackBerry Java project in Eclipse. It has version number written down in four different spots: in the project properties, under "BlackBerry Project Settings/General" in the JAD file, under MIDlet-1 in the JAD file, under MIDlet-Version in the ALX file, under <version> And they seem uncorrelated. Changing either of these affects none of the rest. The third one is what the users sees during over-the-air setup and under Options/Advanced. Questions - why do we need all these? Are there contexts where numbers 1, 2, 4 come up? It's my understanding that the ALX is generated during compilation - where does the version # come from? Is there a way to learn at least one of those programmatically (without signing the app)?

  I hope I don't have to explain what is Silverlight to SO community. Anyway TemplateMonster.com has recently released new Silverlight themes that have been ported from Flash. Silverlight Templates | Template Monster I've noticed a significant lag on my Macbook Pro 13" in loading the template page in Silverlight. And not just Template Monster templates but other silverlight applications on the web as well. Now why is that? I've been hearing how great Silverlight is and how it's a great business platform blah blah blah. And now Microsoft plans to build Windows Phone 7 on top of Silverlight framework. As much as I want to praise Silverlight, so far it's been nothing but a disappointment to me. Could someone enlighten me, what is so great about Silverlight, and why should I put up with that starting up lag? Silverlight was really next up on my "stuff to learn" list this summer, but now I am not so sure...

• best method of turning millions of x,y,z positions of particles into visualisation

  I'm interested in different algorithms people use to visualise millions of particles in a box. I know you can use Cloud-In-Cell, adaptive mesh, Kernel smoothing, nearest grid point methods etc to reduce the load in memory but there is very little documentation on how to do these things online. i.e. I have array with: x,y,z 1,2,3 4,5,6 6,7,8 xi,yi,zi for i = 100 million for example. I don't want a package like Mayavi/Paraview to do it, I want to code this myself then load the decomposed matrix into Mayavi (rather than on-the-fly rendering) My poor 8Gb Macbook explodes if I try and use the particle positions. Any tutorials would be appreciated.
