• How can I prevent IIS from trying to load a dll?

  My project is a Speech Server application using Windows Workflow. It runs as an app under IIS. It supports a plug-in system. Here is what is happening: Load DLL into memory and set the type on an InvokeWorkflow control. When the InvokeWorkflow control runs, it appears to correctly instantiate the workflow from the loaded assembly - it completes the Initialize method. Everything crashes an burns, the target workflow is never executed. I can resolve this by putting a copy of the DLL in the application's executing directory. The workflow then executes correctly So it appears that IIS is trying to reload the assembly, even though its already in memory. Is there anyway to alter or disable this behavior in IIS? Perhaps a hook I can write that will intercept the request to load the dll and use my own logic to do so?

  I'm a complete newbie to Windows and COM programming, trying to use com4j in order to call a COM object from Java. Com4j generates Java interfaces from COM definitions "often found in .ocx, .dll, .exe, and/or .tlb files" . It was easy for me to locate the .ocx file of my target COM object, but I have no clue regarding the standard interface iStream. Microsoft's documentation mentions OLE32.DLL ( c:\Windows\Windows32\Ole32.dll ?) , but neither the com4j generator nor oleviewer succeed in opening this file. Any hints?

• C# app fails to load Matlab DLL when running from a shared drive?

  I have a C# .NET 2.0 program that calls a Matlab .dll file that I created using Matlab Builder for .NET. This Matlab .dll file is a wrapper for a m file function that I need to call from my C# program. Everything works fine when I run this app from my local drive. However once I copy the app to a shared drive the Matlab dll fails when it's first loaded. I setup caspol to allow .NET programs to run from shared drives. Does anyone know what could cause this problem or a tool that I could use to easily figure out what the problem is? Thanks.

  I'm writing a wrapper program that loads Winamp input plugins. I've got it working well so far with quite a few plugins, but for some others, I get an error message at runtime when I attempt to call LoadLibrary on the plugin's DLL. (It seems to happen mostly with plugins that were included with Winamp.) A dialog appears and gives me the error code and message above. This happens, for example, with the in_flac.dll and in_mp3.dll plugins (which come with Winamp). Any ideas on how I can remedy this situation?

• Which .NET performance and/or memory profilers will allow me to profile a DLL?

  I write a lot of .NET based plug-ins for other programs which are usually compiled as a DLL which is up to the native application to start up. I've been using Equatec's profiler, which works great, but now would like something with more features, including the ability to profile memory usage. I tried out Red Gate's Ant Profiler, but as far as I can see there is no way to profile a DLL. The only option is to profile an EXE. So my question is what other profiling tools are available that will allow me to profile a single library DLL rather than an EXE. I'm assuming this would require injecting profile code into the library as Equatec does?

• MSVC Compiler options with mojo-native in Maven

  I'm trying to set up a test environment with Maven to build VC++ and I am way behind on this. I have 3 source files that I builds a dll (once I get this fixed it should be a simple matter to add the unit-tests): hook.cpp hook.h hook.def This is compiled, on the command line, with the following: C:\Develop\hook\src\main\msvc>cl -o hook.dll Hook.cpp /D HOOK_DLLEXPORT /link /DLL /DEF:"Hook.def" Which produces the expected obj, dll, lib and exp files. So now to get this working in Maven2 with the Mojo-native plugin.   I have a MFC exe, trying to dynamic load a MFC dll. // This is code in MFC exe HINSTANCE h = AfxLoadLibrary(_T("DLL.dll")); typedef void(*FUN)(); FUN fun = (FUN)GetProcAddress(h, "loveme"); FreeLibrary(h); Both MFC exe and MFC dll, are having their own resource file. However, I realize that, if MFC exe and MFC dll are having a same resource ID, conflict may occur. // This is code in MFC dll. Both exe and dll, are having resources with // ID 101. CString s; s.LoadString(101); // Resource 101 in exe is being shown :( AfxMessageBox(s); May I know how I can avoid resource ID conflict problem? Can we have two resource in both MFC and DLL, although their ID is different, but they are independent from each other? This means, DLL will only load DLL's resource. EXE will only load EXE's resource.

some garbage(?), however the end contains the the lock which seems be holding the main thread. Can I trust this stack trace? If not, what can cause this and how I can avoid it? Any ideas about the dead lock based on this stack trace?   Hi, I'm programing on C++, I'm using Visual Studio 2008, Windows XP, and I have the following problem: My application, that is a DLL that can be used from Python, loads an external dll, uses the required methods, and then unloads this external Dll. It's working properly, but after more than 1000 cycles the method "LoadLibraryA" returns a NULL reference. The main steps are: HINSTANCE h = NULL; h = LoadLibraryA(dllfile.c_str()); DWORD dw = GetLastError(); The error got is: ERROR_DLL_INIT_FAILED 1114 (0x45A) A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed. The Dll is unloaded by using the following: FreeLibrary(mDLL); mDLL = NULL; Where mDLL is defined like this: HINSTANCE mDLL; First alternative tried: Just load the Dll only once, and unloaded it when the application ends. This fix the problem but introduces a new one. When the application ends, instead of first executing the DllMain method of my applicaion, wich unloads the external DLL, is executing first the DllMain method of the other Dll. This cause the following error because my application is trying to unload a Dll that was unload by itself previously. "Unhandled exception at 0x04a00d07 (DllName.DLL) in Python.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x0000006b". Any suggestion will be welcomed. Thanks in advance. Regards.

  In the .NET BCL there are circular references between: System.dll and System.Xml.dll System.dll and System.Configuration.dll System.Xml.dll and System.Configuration.dll Here's a screenshot from .NET Reflector that shows what I mean: How Microsoft created these assemblies is a mystery to me. Is a special compilation process required to allow this? I imagine something interesting is going on here.

  I want to use Fluent NHibernate in commercial desktop application, and I'm little concerned about the licensing. I've downloaded Fluent NHibernate precompiled binaries, and it contains this list of files: Antlr3.Runtime.dll Castle.Core.dll Castle.DynamicProxy2.dll FluentNHibernate.dll Iesi.Collections.dll log4net.dll NHibernate.dll NHibernate.ByteCode.Castle.dll I guess I will have to add all of these files to my Inno Setup script, which will install them on user's computer. But what should I do to comply to all of the licenses associated with each file? I'm sure I'm not the first who wants to use Fluent NHibernate in commercial application, so I hope I won't have to study each of the licenses. I'm not a lawyer.

  Hi, im moving a Dll (built in c++) from windows 2000 server to a 2008 server but im have some trouble to register it. In 2000 all you normaly have to do is a "regsrv32 name.dll" but this will not work in 2008 because you get a pointer error, iv also tried to use "gacutil /i name.dll" because someone told me this might work, but it didnt. So, im kind of desperate, is there anyone that have some solution to how i can get this c++ dll to work in 2000 server so that i can access it from an old classic asp page. EDIT: This is the error when running regsrv: " The module "name.dll" was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found. Make sure that "name.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again. " Note that i cant edit the dll file in anyway =( Best Regards Marthin

• How to copy DispatcherObject (BitmapSource) into different thread?

  Hi, I am trying to figure out how can I copy DispatcherObject (in my case BitmapSource) into another thread. Use case: I have a WPF app that needs to show window in a new thread (the app is actually Outlook addin and we need to do this because Outlook has some hooks in the main UI thread and is stealing certain hotkeys that we need to use - 'lost in translation' in interop of Outlook, WPF (which we use for UI), and Winforms (we need to use certain microsoft-provided winforms controls)). With that, I have my implementation of WPFMessageBox, that is configured by setting some static properties - and and one of them is BitmapSource for icon. This is used so that in startup I can set WPFMessageBox.Icon once, and since then, every WPFMessageBox will have the same icon. The problem is that BitmapSource, which is assigned into icon, is a DispatcherObject, and when read, it will throw InvalidOperationException: "The calling thread cannot access this object because a different thread owns it.". How can I clone that BitmapSource into the actual thread? It has Clone() and CloneCurrentValue() methods, which don't work (they throw the same exception as well). It also occured to me to use originalIcon.Dispatcher.Invoke( do the cloning here ) - but the BitmapSource's Dispatcher is null, and still - I'd create a copy on a wrong thread and still couldnt use it on mine. BitmapSource.IsFrozen == true. Any idea on how to copy the BitmapSource into different thread (without completely reconstructing it from an image file in a new thread)? • Deploying Qt / MySQL application

  Hi everyone, I hadn't found a anwser on the web, so i ask to you. I am unable to run my compiled mysql driver on a deployment solution. On the pc A the app work fine when run with QtCreator, but via the .exe in the following working directory, the driver is not loaded : root/ -----/bin --------/app.exe --------/libgcc_s_dw2-1.dll --------/mingwm10.dll --------/QtCore4.dll --------/QtGui4.dll --------/QtSql4.dll -----/sqldrivers --------/libmysql.dll --------/qsqlmysql4.dll Whereas with libmysql.dll under bin/ driver is loaded. Now on the pc B, with no Qt or MySQL lib installation and with any of the 2 last working dir, the driver is not loaded. pc A : Qt 4.7 2010.05, Win 7 pc B : Win 7 Thanks for your help !

• Versioning issues with assemblies

  Let's assume I have two assemblies: MyExecutable.dll version 1.0.0 MyClassLibrary.dll version 1.0.0 Now, MyExecutable.dll currently uses MyClassLibrary.dll's classes and methods (which include some algorithms). Most of those algorithms were made on the run, being that later I'll want to refine them if needed. This means, I won't change the interface of those classes but the code itself will see some changes. The question at hand is, MyExecutable.dll will be expecting MyClassLibrary.dll 1.0.0 and I'll want it to use version 1.0.1 (or something like that). I don't want to have to recompile MyExecutable.dll(because actually there might be more than just one executable using MyClassLibrary.dll). Is there a solution for this problem? I've heard about the GAC, but if possible I'd like to stay away from it. Thanks

• Trying to launch old game using wine

• How to include the right reference in C# using the "Browser" tab

The .dll is not under .NET, COM or projects tabs, so I only have the "browser" tab to add the .dll to the reference. My question is: How can I indicate to VS to take the release .dll version when I compile in the release mode and to take the debug .dll version when I compile in the debug mode? Thanks.

  I am using a plugin DLL that I created in Visual C++ Express 2010 on windows 7 64 bit Ultimate Edition. The DLL functions properly on the machine that it was originally created on. The problem is that the DLL is not functioning in the Unity3d Editor on another machine and giving an error that basically states that the DLL is missing some of its dependencies.   While putting together some examples of the Solaris 11 Automated Installer (AI), I managed to really mess up my system, to the point where AI was completely unusable. This was my fault as a combination of unfortunate incidents left some remnants that were causing problems, so I tried to clean things up. Unsuccessfully. Perhaps that was a bad idea (OK, it was a terrible idea), but this is Solaris 11 and there are a few more tricks in the sysadmin toolbox.   hi guys, I got a gift from a friend, 2 readers for RFID, and some cards (from a Chinese company called daily rfid), the kind of work, because it comes with some demo software written in Delphi, that reads the id of the card (myfare compatible, ISO14443A ) but the problem is that if I try to use the demo to write to them, it doesnt seem to work, it have another demo written in c#, (compiled and executable from /bin/debug, the DL600DemoCSharp.exe), the software opens, but when click on connect, I get this error Unhanded exception.. unable to load DLL 'BasicB.DLL' so I load the dll on windows/system32, but when I try regsvr32 BasicB.dll I get, error the module "BasicB.dll" was loaded but hte entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found. Make sure that "BasicB.dll" is a valid DLL or OCX file and then try again have written to the company but no response, I program in objective C, so I kind of understand c#, but how to make this cards work? - shall I continue with the delphi, and try to write to them with it - or with c# - either way I would have to write the code to read write to them,, or is there any software to work with this modules?? thanks a lot!

  I have started playing with codility and came across this problem: A zero-indexed array A consisting of N different integers is given. The array contains integers in the range [1..(N + 1)], which means that exactly one element is missing. Your goal is to find that missing element. Write a function: int solution(int A[], int N); that, given a zero-indexed array A, returns the value of the missing element. For example, given array A such that: A[0] = 2 A[1] = 3 A[2] = 1 A[3] = 5 the function should return 4, as it is the missing element. Assume that: N is an integer within the range [0..100,000]; the elements of A are all distinct; each element of array A is an integer within the range [1..(N + 1)]. Complexity: expected worst-case time complexity is O(N); expected worst-case space complexity is O(1), beyond input storage (not counting the storage required for input arguments). I have submitted the following solution (in PHP): function solution($A) { $nr = count($A); $totalSum = (($nr+1)*($nr+2))/2; $arrSum = array_sum($A); return ($totalSum-$arrSum); } which gave me a score of 66 of 100, because it was failing the test involving large arrays: "large_range range sequence, length = ~100,000" with the result: RUNTIME ERROR tested program terminated unexpectedly stdout: Invalid result type, int expected. I tested locally with an array of 100.000 elements, and it worked without any problems. So, what seems to be the problem with my code and what kind of test cases did codility use to return "Invalid result type, int expected"?
