  • Do I need a SMTP server for my domain to receive email?

    my domain has a domain extension that since my country is not supported by Google Apps I can't use that lovely GApps services for that domain. I need free email service of GApps the most, so I decided to give a go to "Send mail as" feature of a regular Gmail account and add my domain emails to that personal Gmail. I have a question: Do I need a SMTP server for my domain to receive email from others? Thanks in advance :)

  • How to group using XSLT

    I'm having trouble grouping a set of nodes. I've found an article that does work with grouping and i have tested it and it works on a small test stylesheet i have I now need to use it in my stylesheet where I only want to select node sets that have a specific value. What I want to do in my stylesheet is select all users who have a userlevel of 2 then to group them by the volunteer region. What happens at the minute is that it gets the right amount of users with userlevel 2 but doesn't print them.     Hi guys, I'm modifying our collaboration system so it can be listed on google applications. A small issue I'm facing is the registering of user details. By default whenever someone logs into their google Apps account they pretty much are logged into the application. For every action taken by a registered login in user I store the user ID of that signed in user whenever an update is made in the database. However the google apps user sign in process is different in this respect that there isn't anything visible as a user ID for me to work with. Any ideas?

    Hi, Recently my iPhone battery started to discharge in just one day. I do not use my iPhone much (less than 1 hour a day). and then while discussing it with couple of colleagues, I heard that there are some apps which even if installed on your iPhone can cause your battery to drain out faster. It does not matter if you are not using those apps, only having them installed was enough to cause battery drain. I have heard this from couple of my techie friends as well and thus had to put some credibility to it. Being an iPhone developer, I don't think that is possible. Do you think if this is possible for an app to cause battery drain just by being installed there on iPhone?

But what I can't figure out is how to redirect other domains that's outside google apps. I have a domain at google apps, that work's perfectly. When I create a cname that points at either my appid.appspot.com or www.appsdomain.com it just goes to google.com. If there is no significant difference, having a single database would be preferable due to easier maintenance. Background My team has an assortment of ASP.NET web apps, all written in either Monorail 1.1 or ASP.NET MVC 1.0. Each app currently uses a dedicated session state database. I'm working on adding a new site to that list, and am debating whether I should create another new session database, or just share an existing one with another app.

    We are researching the possibility to build a centralized credentials storage for internal applications. These apps (vb6, vb.net, web apps in asp.net, etc) are using various instances of SQL servers and iSeries. We want to implement a central credentials facility that would act as a security broker. Basically it should work like this: Client app supplies AppID (I am Sales Application) and EnvironmentID (I am running in QA environment) and in return will get either a connection object (preferred) or encrypted connection string that will allow said application to connect to resources it needs. There will be cases when application needs to connect to two (or more) database resources (i.e. to SQL and iSeries). What are looking at DP API at the moment, but I am not convinced that DP API is the solution as it tied in with machine key. In our case using machine key isn't feasible, so I want to know if there are other approaches available.

    I read Apple is allowing developers to submit iPad apps for the great opening of the ipad store, but I cannot find anything in my account that says that or allows sending the apps. Another thing is: in order for an app to be accepted you have to sign it with your own certificate but to do that you have to select the device on Xcode. As far as I know, Xcode do not signs with certificates applications that run on the simulator. Beyond that, any try to build a distribution package on Xcode shows messages like "you should disable armv6", and others. So, I ask. Is this news true? If yes, how to I manage to have the app ready for iPad and ready for submission? thanks.

    Our app servers (weblogic) all use log4j to log to the same file on a network share. On top of this we have all web apps in a managed server logging errors to a common error.log. I can't imagine this is a good idea but wanted to hear from some pros. I know that each web app has its own classloader, so any thread synchronization only occurs within the app. So what happens when multiple processes start converging on a single log file? Can we expect interspersed log statements? Performance problems? What about multiple web apps logging to a common log file? The environment is Solaris.

  • Using too much memory in C/NDK?

    I've recently found out there is no hard limit to how much memory you can allocate in C/NDK on Android. This is in contrast to Java where the limit is ~24Mb. I'm working on a few apps that could greatly benefit from using about ~50Mb total. Is this far too much memory to use? Does anyone have any experience with developing apps that go above the Java limit and what impact this has across devices? Obviously, I don't want to kill all background apps by consuming too much memory and I know the Android devs suggest not using too much memory but limiting all apps to ~24Mb is very limiting to certain kinds of apps. I've seen a few Android games recently that say they use ~256Mb. I'm planning to use about 50Mb total for my app. Does this sound reasonable in terms of stability across devices that have a limit of 24Mb?

  • Android Apps Not Showing Up In AVD

    I recently started messing with Android Apps, but I have had nothing but problems trying to get them into the Virtual Device for testing. For some reason, they never seem to show up in the AVD. It has worked one time, but that's it out of hours spent just trying to test one or two very simple apps. I've redone the AVD setup many, many times, trying different settings and what not to no avail. I've followed multiple guides and tutorials to the letter to get it working, but they just refuse to show up in the list. :( Any insight would be appreciated, thank you.

    when I navigate through the Oracle application with my application user and the right responsibility, I see the data. I use the "record history" menu to see which table/view is used by application. So, I got PA_EXPEND_ITEMS_ADJUST2_V. When I'm connected with apps user in a sqlplus session, SELECT * FROM PA_EXPEND_ITEMS_ADJUST2_V gives me 0 rows. I guess that there's something is misconfigurated with the apps but what ? How may I view the rows of PA_EXPEND_ITEMS_ADJUST2_V using apps user in a sqlplus session ? How may I see the data in the Oracle view like I see it through the application ?

    I've been investigating some cloud vendors and the ability to implement single sign-on with them, especially when it comes to AD (Active Directory) integration. So far I've learned that with Azure this is possible through ADFS and the AppFabric Access Control offer. In AWS, since it is possible to create a VPN and see EC2 instances as a natural extension of a private datacenter, I believe implementing SSO would be rather simple (not sure if I'm right on this one... Please correct me if I'm wrong). With App Engine though, even though there is some documentation on AD synchronization (not full integration) for Google Apps, I'm struggling to find out whether AD integration would be possible... Is there any strategy for that? Any bit of information on cloud apps and AD integration will be appreciated!

Only specific (professional) tools that usually people don’t use at home will not be available as a web app. So my question, how do you imagine selling software that was necessary for everyday use and was not free (seems they can't make money any more by selling their product – no need of those products). And what disadvantages have web apps, that is to say, what is bad to use software online compared with having the same software locally (please list)? I am a bit new to Python but I am looking for a way to run multiple apps that will continuously run in the background. For example, I need 4 apps to start up with a param -appnum set to a different value. I would like to use python to count up and then start up a new app that will continue to run. I assumed I would use subprocess but I feel a bit overwhelmed by the documentation. I also plan to have the app print out sequences of numbers and would like to redirect this to a file.   • Legalities of programming companion Android apps

    I'm interested in creating companion apps to several current Android apps and was curious if there is a legal issue with using their name and/or icons from the app. Like the companion app being called Angry Birds Companion or something and you were to use a picture of the level or one of the characters, etc (I'm simply pulling from thin air so don't judge the idea, just the question, please). I know there are Strategy guides to video games that use icons and names, but I'm assuming they have prior consent. Does anyone have any factual input on this?

  • The Apple Passbook

    In a previous job I worked on smart card systems.  Our vision was to replace the physical wallet with a chip card that contained stored value, credit cards, and loyalty cards.  The technology was up to the task, but the business model never worked out.  When all those things go onto a single card, who owns the card and maintains the applications?  Each bank wanted their own card with branding, so instead of consolidating lots of cards onto one, we ended up with the same number of cards, just more expensive chip cards.  The Costanza wallet would not die. More recently I've been able to move lots of these cards into iOS apps using products like CardStar, TripIt, and Fandango.  I guess moving from physical to digital is progress, but still no consolidation.  But this week Apple announced its Passbook, an iOS feature that consolidates boarding passes, loyalty cards, and movie tickets.  Another step in the right direction. We've been waiting for Apple to announce a NFC solution to take advantage of the 400 million credit cards it stores in iTunes for its customers.  Perhaps Passbook is the first step in that direction.  It wouldn't take much to add credit cards to Passbook, then enable secure transfer of the track data using a NFC equipped iPhone.  I've got to think this has to be part of the larger vision, but of course Apple is very secretive. I think the steps will be loyalty, coupons, and then payment when it comes to the evolving Passbook.  Retailers should keep an eye on Apple, and expect these things to happen in the Apple stores first.
