  • Not reaction to pressing button

    - by Orange91
    I have a ring in primefaces: <h:form> <p:ring id="ring" value="#{ringBean.images}" var="image" styleClass="image-ring" easing="easeInOutBack"> <p:graphicImage value="./../../images/#{image.image}" width="150" height="150"/> <p:commandButton value="#{image.name}" action="#{image.action}" /> </p:ring> </h:form> My RingBean: @ManagedBean @RequestScoped public class RingBean implements Serializable{ private List<PersonImage> images; private PersonImage selectedPerson; public RingBean() { images = new ArrayList<PersonImage>(); images.add(new PersonImage("person3.png", "Pacjent", "patientList")); images.add(new PersonImage("person4.png", "Admin", "adminList")); images.add(new PersonImage("person5.png", "Lekarz", "doctorList")); images.add(new PersonImage("person6.png", "Sekretarka", "secretaryList")); images.add(new PersonImage("person7.png", "Nieaktywni", "inactiveList")); } public List<PersonImage> getImages() { return images; } public PersonImage getSelectedPerson() { return selectedPerson; } public void setSelectedPerson(PersonImage selectedPerson) { this.selectedPerson = selectedPerson; } } PersonImage class: public class PersonImage { String image; String name; String action; public PersonImage() { } public PersonImage(String image, String name, String action) { this.image = image; this.name = name; this.action = action; } public String getImage() { return image; } public void setImage(String image) { this.image = image; } public String getName() { return name; } public void setName(String name) { this.name = name; } public String getAction() { return action; } public void setAction(String action) { this.action = action; } } faces-config: <navigation-case> <from-outcome>adminList</from-outcome> <to-view-id>/protected/admin/adminList.xhtml</to-view-id> <redirect/> </navigation-case> <navigation-case> <from-outcome>doctorList</from-outcome> <to-view-id>/protected/admin/doctorList.xhtml</to-view-id> <redirect/> </navigation-case> <navigation-case> <from-outcome>patientList</from-outcome> <to-view-id>/protected/admin/patientList.xhtml</to-view-id> <redirect/> </navigation-case> <navigation-case> <from-outcome>secretaryList</from-outcome> <to-view-id>/protected/admin/secretaryList.xhtml</to-view-id> <redirect/> </navigation-case> When i pressed my button, not reaction. Why? I added the action in button: And in Ring I add: images.add(new PersonImage("person4.png", "Admin", "adminList")); action is adminList. Why this not work? When i changed in button: <p:commandButton value="#{image.name}" action="adminList" /> all work. Why? Both construction returned identical string.

  • NHibernate and MySql is inserting and Selecting, not updating

    - by Chris Brandsma
    Something strange is going on with NHibernate for me. I can select, and I can insert. But I can't do and update against MySql. Here is my domain class public class UserAccount { public virtual int Id { get; set; } public virtual string UserName { get; set; } public virtual string Password { get; set; } public virtual bool Enabled { get; set; } public virtual string FirstName { get; set; } public virtual string LastName { get; set; } public virtual string Phone { get; set; } public virtual DateTime? DeletedDate { get; set; } public virtual UserAccount DeletedBy { get; set; } } Fluent Mapping public class UserAccountMap : ClassMap<UserAccount> { public UserAccountMap() { Table("UserAccount"); Id(x => x.Id); Map(x => x.UserName); Map(x => x.Password); Map(x => x.FirstName); Map(x => x.LastName); Map(x => x.Phone); Map(x => x.DeletedDate); Map(x => x.Enabled); } } Here is how I'm creating my Session Factory var dbconfig = MySQLConfiguration .Standard .ShowSql() .ConnectionString(a => a.FromAppSetting("MySqlConnStr")); FluentConfiguration config = Fluently.Configure() .Database(dbconfig) .Mappings(m => { var mapping = m.FluentMappings.AddFromAssemblyOf<TransactionDetail>(); mapping.ExportTo(mappingdir); }); and this is my NHibernate code: using (var trans = Session.BeginTransaction()) { var user = GetById(userId); user.Enabled = false; user.DeletedDate = DateTime.Now; user.UserName = "deleted_" + user.UserName; user.Password = "--removed--"; Session.Update(user); trans.Commit(); } No exceptions are being thrown. No queries are being logged. Nothing.

  • Would like some modelling tips for dependent values

    - by orjan
    I'm working on a model for a simple fishing competition and I have some issues with my design. The main class for the fishing game is Capture and it looks like this: public class Capture : Entity { public virtual int Weight { get; set; } public virtual int Length { get; set; } public virtual DateTime DateForCapture { get; set; } public virtual User CapturedBy { get; set; } public virtual Species Species { get; set; } } So far there´s no problem but I'm not really sure how to model the game. Every Species is connected to a reference weight that changes from year to year The number of point for a capture is its Weight divided by the current reference weight for the species. One way to solve the problem is to connect a capture to SpeciesReferenceWeight instead of Species public class SpeciesReferenceWeight : Entity { public virtual Species Species { get; set; } public virtual int ReferenceWeight { get; set; } public virtual int Year { get; set; } } But in that way that Capture is connected to the implementation details of the game and from my point of view a capture is still a capture even if it's not included in a game. The result I'm aiming for is like: http://hornalen.net/fishbonkern/2007/ that I wrote a couple of years ago with brute force sql and no domain model. I would be very happy for all kinds of feeback on this issue.

  • ZF Site in ZF Site? How do I redirect form subdirectory to another subdirecotry?

    - by AD
    The deal is that I have a ZF site for which root directory is /public. How should I go about redirecting to a subdirectory if I want to do next? I want to have another subdirectory under /public/ that would not be linked to a main website in any way except it using save ZF. Lets say I have this: /public/newsite/ which will include a complete modular ZF (just I have it for the main site). That is the root directory for the NEWSITE would be /public/newsite/public. So my question how do I modify my .htaccess rules so it would redirect any requests from /public/newsite/ to /public/newsite/public/? Thank you in advance.

  • Need help configuring Castle-Windsor

    - by Jonathas Costa
    I have these base interfaces and providers in one assembly (Assembly1): public interface IEntity { } public interface IDao { } public interface IReadDao<T> : IDao where T : IEntity { IEnumerable<T> GetAll(); } public class NHibernate<T> : IReadDao<T> where T : IEntity { public IEnumerable<T> GetAll() { return new List<T>(); } } And I have this implementation inside another assembly (Assembly2): public class Product : IEntity { public string Code { get; set; } } public interface IProductDao : IReadDao<Product> { IEnumerable<Product> GetByCode(string code); } public class ProductDao : NHibernate<Product>, IProductDao { public IEnumerable<Product> GetByCode(string code) { return new List<Product>(); } } I want to be able to get IRead<Product> and IProductDao from the container. I am using this registration: container.Register( AllTypes.FromAssemblyNamed("Assembly2") .BasedOn(typeof(IReadDao<>)).WithService.FromInterface(), AllTypes.FromAssemblyNamed("Assembly1") .BasedOn(typeof(IReadDao<>)).WithService.Base()); The IReadDao<Product> works great. The container gives me ProductDao. But if I try to get IProductDao, the container throws ComponentNotFoundException. How can I correctly configure the registration?

  • Convert Object Hierachey to Object Array

    - by Killercam
    All, I want to create an object array foo[], where the constructor for Foo is public Foo(string name, string discription){} I have a database object which has a structure (not incuding stored procedures, functions or views for simplicity) like public class Database { public string name { get; set; } public string filename { get; set; } public List<Table> tables { get; set; } public Database(string name, string filename) { this.name = name; this.filename = filename; } } protected internal class Table { public string name { get; set; } public List<Column> columns { get; set;} public Table(string name, List<Column> columns) { this.name = name; this.columns = columns; } } protected internal class Column { public string name { get; set; } public string type { get; set; } public Column(string name, string type, int maxLength, bool isNullable) { this.name = name; this.type = type; } } I would like to know the quickest way to add Column and Table information to the Foo[] object array? Clearly I can do List<Foo> fooList = new List<Foo>(); foreach (Table t in database.tables) { fooList.Add(new Foo(t.Name, "Some Description")); foreach (Column c in t.columns) fooList.Add(new Foo(c.Name, "Some Description")); } Foo[] fooArr = fooList.ToArray<Foo>(); But is there a quicker way? Clearly LINQ is likely to be slower for a query that does a simalar operation, but I care allot about speed here so any advice would be appreciated. Perhaps the use of a HashSet would be the way to go as there will not be duplicate entries... Thanks for your time.

  • C# Type comparison

    This has me pooped, is there any reason the following: public abstract class aExtension { public abstract bool LoadExtension(Constants c); // method required in inherit public abstract string AppliesToModule // property required in inherit { get; } public abstract string ExtensionName // property required in inherit { get; } public abstract string ExtensionDescription // property required in inherit { get; } } public class UK : aExtension { public override bool LoadExtension(Constants c) { return true; } public override string AppliesToModule { get { return "string"; } } public override string ExtensionName { get { return "string"; } } public override string ExtensionDescription { get { return "string"; } } } would return false for the following expressions: bool a = t.IsAssignableFrom(aExtension)); bool b = t.BaseType.IsAssignableFrom(aExtension)); bool c = typeof(aExtension).IsAssignableFrom(t); bool d = typeof(aExtension).IsAssignableFrom(t.BaseType); bool e = typeof(aExtension).IsSubclassOf(t); bool f = typeof(aExtension).IsSubclassOf(t.BaseType); bool g = t.IsSubclassOf(typeof(aExtension)); bool h = t.BaseType.IsSubclassOf(typeof(LBT.AdMeter.aExtension)); bool i = t.BaseType.Equals(typeof(aExtension)); bool j = typeof(aExtension).Equals(t.BaseType); T is the reflected Type from the calss UK. Stange thing is i do the exact same thing just on an external assembly in the same application and it works as expected...

  • Easiest way to merge two List<T>s

    - by Chris McCall

What's the easiest way to go about this in C# using .Net 3.5?

  • Why isn't the new() generic constraint satisfied by a class with optional parameters in the construc

    - by Joshua Flanagan
    The following code fails to compile, producing a "Widget must be a non-abstract type with a public parameterless constructor" error. I would think that the compiler has all of the information it needs. Is this a bug? An oversight? Or is there some scenario where this would not be valid? public class Factory<T> where T : new() { public T Build() { return new T(); } } public class Widget { public Widget(string name = "foo") { Name = name; } public string Name { get; set; } } public class Program { public static void Main() { var widget = new Widget(); // this is valid var factory = new Factory<Widget>(); // compiler error } }

  • Java: Best approach to have a long list of variables needed all the time without consuming memory?

    - by evilReiko
    I wrote an abstract class to contain all rules of the application because I need them almost everywhere in my application. So most of what it contains is static final variables, something like this: public abstract class appRules { public static final boolean IS_DEV = true; public static final String CLOCK_SHORT_TIME_FORMAT = "something"; public static final String CLOCK_SHORT_DATE_FORMAT = "something else"; public static final String CLOCK_FULL_FORMAT = "other thing"; public static final int USERNAME_MIN = 5; public static final int USERNAME_MAX = 16; // etc. } The class is big and contains LOTS of such variables. My Question: Isn't setting static variables means these variables are floating in memory all the time? Do you suggest insteading of having an abstract class, I have a instantiable class with non-static variables (just public final), so I instantiate the class and use the variables only when I need them. Or is what am I doing is completely wrong approach and you suggest something else?

  • c# .net MVC4 Model to represent table or form

    - by Matthew Chambers
    Hello I am a little confused with regards to models in mvc 4 and thought someone may be able to point me in the right direction. This would be most appreciated. For example if i have a table that has the following fields [StringLength(100, ErrorMessage = "The {0} must be at least {2} characters long.", MinimumLength = 5)] public string UserName { get; set; } [Required(ErrorMessage="Email Address is Required")] [StringLength(15, ErrorMessage = "Email Address must be between {0} and {1} in size",MinimumLength = 5 )] [DataType(DataType.EmailAddress)] [Display(Name="Email")] public string Email { get; set; } [MaxLength(25)] [Display(Name="Mobile Telephone Number")] public string Mobile {get;set;} [MaxLength(500)] [Display(Name="Headline")] public string Headline {get;set;} [Required] [StringLength(200)] [Display(Name = "First Name")] public string FirstName {get;set;} [Required] [StringLength(200)] [Display(Name="Surname")] public string Surname { get; set;} public virtual int? DayOfBirthId { get; set; } public virtual DayOfBirth DayOfBirth { get; set; } public virtual int? MonthOfBirthId { get; set; } public virtual MonthOfBirth MonthOfBirth { get; set; } public virtual int? YearOfBirthId { get; set; } public virtual YearOfBirth YearOfBirth{get;set;} This is my user profile table in the database. However I would like a form that the user registers to the site with. When they first register i do not need all the details such as telephone all i really need is there username, email address and password. Do i create another model for this. Or do i have one model and on the controller set the fields to null or empty string that are not required on registration. I have validation also so would this be set for data that has not been entered on the form. My question is ultimately should all forms represent models- should the database be redesigned to meet this required. Or should the controller set the values that are not required. Or should there be another model that represents the form be created which maps to this table. I am a little confused on this and clarification of anyone would be most appreciated.

  • AutoMapper strings to enum descriptions

    - by 6footunder
    Given the requirement: Take an object graph, set all enum type properties based on the processed value of a second string property. Convention dictates that the name of the source string property will be that of the enum property with a postfix of "Raw". By processed we mean we'll need to strip specified characters e.t.c. I've looked at custom formatters, value resolvers and type converters, none of which seems like a solution for this? We want to use AutoMapper as opposed to our own reflection routine for two reasons, a) it's used extensively throughout the rest of the project and b) it gives you recursive traversal ootb. -- Example -- Given the (simple) structure below, and this: var tmp = new SimpleClass { CountryRaw = "United States", Person = new Person { GenderRaw="Male" } }; var tmp2 = new SimpleClass(); Mapper.Map(tmp, tmp2); we'd expect tmp2's MappedCountry enum to be Country.UnitedStates and the Person property to have a gender of Gender.Male. public class SimpleClass1 { public string CountryRaw {get;set;} public Country MappedCountry {get;set;} public Person Person {get;set;} } public class Person { public string GenderRaw {get;set;} public Gender Gender {get;set;} public string Surname {get;set;} } public enum Country { UnitedStates = 1, NewZealand = 2 } public enum Gender { Male, Female, Unknown } Thanks

  • Host AngularJS (Html5Mode) in ASP.NET vNext

    - by Shaun
    Originally posted on: http://geekswithblogs.net/shaunxu/archive/2014/06/10/host-angularjs-html5mode-in-asp.net-vnext.aspxMicrosoft had announced ASP.NET vNext in BUILD and TechED recently and as a developer, I found that we can add features into one ASP.NET vNext application such as MVC, WebAPI, SignalR, etc.. Also it's cross platform which means I can host ASP.NET on Windows, Linux and OS X.   If you are following my blog you should knew that I'm currently working on a project which uses ASP.NET WebAPI, SignalR and AngularJS. Currently the AngularJS part is hosted by Express in Node.js while WebAPI and SignalR are hosted in ASP.NET. I was looking for a solution to host all of them in one platform so that my SignalR can utilize WebSocket. Currently AngularJS and SignalR are hosted in the same domain but different port so it has to use ServerSendEvent. It can be upgraded to WebSocket if I host both of them in the same port.   Host AngularJS in ASP.NET vNext Static File Middleware ASP.NET vNext utilizes middleware pattern to register feature it uses, which is very similar as Express in Node.js. Since AngularJS is a pure client side framework in theory what I need to do is to use ASP.NET vNext as a static file server. This is very easy as there's a build-in middleware shipped alone with ASP.NET vNext. Assuming I have "index.html" as below. 1: <html data-ng-app="demo"> 2: <head> 3: <script type="text/javascript" src="angular.js" /> 4: <script type="text/javascript" src="angular-ui-router.js" /> 5: <script type="text/javascript" src="app.js" /> 6: </head> 7: <body> 8: <h1>ASP.NET vNext with AngularJS</h1> 9: <div> 10: <a href="javascript:void(0)" data-ui-sref="view1">View 1</a> | 11: <a href="javascript:void(0)" data-ui-sref="view2">View 2</a> 12: </div> 13: <div data-ui-view></div> 14: </body> 15: </html> And the AngularJS JavaScript file as below. Notices that I have two views which only contains one line literal indicates the view name. 1: 'use strict'; 2:  3: var app = angular.module('demo', ['ui.router']); 4:  5: app.config(['$stateProvider', '$locationProvider', function ($stateProvider, $locationProvider) { 6: $stateProvider.state('view1', { 7: url: '/view1', 8: templateUrl: 'view1.html', 9: controller: 'View1Ctrl' }); 10:  11: $stateProvider.state('view2', { 12: url: '/view2', 13: templateUrl: 'view2.html', 14: controller: 'View2Ctrl' }); 15: }]); 16:  17: app.controller('View1Ctrl', function ($scope) { 18: }); 19:  20: app.controller('View2Ctrl', function ($scope) { 21: }); All AngularJS files are located in "app" folder and my ASP.NET vNext files are besides it. The "project.json" contains all dependencies I need to host static file server. 1: { 2: "dependencies": { 3: "Helios" : "0.1-alpha-*", 4: "Microsoft.AspNet.FileSystems": "0.1-alpha-*", 5: "Microsoft.AspNet.Http": "0.1-alpha-*", 6: "Microsoft.AspNet.StaticFiles": "0.1-alpha-*", 7: "Microsoft.AspNet.Hosting": "0.1-alpha-*", 8: "Microsoft.AspNet.Server.WebListener": "0.1-alpha-*" 9: }, 10: "commands": { 11: "web": "Microsoft.AspNet.Hosting server=Microsoft.AspNet.Server.WebListener server.urls=http://localhost:22222" 12: }, 13: "configurations" : { 14: "net45" : { 15: }, 16: "k10" : { 17: "System.Diagnostics.Contracts": "4.0.0.0", 18: "System.Security.Claims" : "0.1-alpha-*" 19: } 20: } 21: } Below is "Startup.cs" which is the entry file of my ASP.NET vNext. What I need to do is to let my application use FileServerMiddleware. 1: using System; 2: using Microsoft.AspNet.Builder; 3: using Microsoft.AspNet.FileSystems; 4: using Microsoft.AspNet.StaticFiles; 5:  6: namespace Shaun.AspNet.Plugins.AngularServer.Demo 7: { 8: public class Startup 9: { 10: public void Configure(IBuilder app) 11: { 12: app.UseFileServer(new FileServerOptions() { 13: EnableDirectoryBrowsing = true, 14: FileSystem = new PhysicalFileSystem(System.IO.Path.Combine(AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory, "app")) 15: }); 16: } 17: } 18: } Next, I need to create "NuGet.Config" file in the PARENT folder so that when I run "kpm restore" command later it can find ASP.NET vNext NuGet package successfully. 1: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> 2: <configuration> 3: <packageSources> 4: <add key="AspNetVNext" value="https://www.myget.org/F/aspnetvnext/api/v2" /> 5: <add key="NuGet.org" value="https://nuget.org/api/v2/" /> 6: </packageSources> 7: <packageSourceCredentials> 8: <AspNetVNext> 9: <add key="Username" value="aspnetreadonly" /> 10: <add key="ClearTextPassword" value="4d8a2d9c-7b80-4162-9978-47e918c9658c" /> 11: </AspNetVNext> 12: </packageSourceCredentials> 13: </configuration> Now I need to run "kpm restore" to resolve all dependencies of my application. Finally, use "k web" to start the application which will be a static file server on "app" sub folder in the local 22222 port.   Support AngularJS Html5Mode AngularJS works well in previous demo. But you will note that there is a "#" in the browser address. This is because by default AngularJS adds "#" next to its entry page so ensure all request will be handled by this entry page. For example, in this case my entry page is "index.html", so when I clicked "View 1" in the page the address will be changed to "/#/view1" which means it still tell the web server I'm still looking for "index.html". This works, but makes the address looks ugly. Hence AngularJS introduces a feature called Html5Mode, which will get rid off the annoying "#" from the address bar. Below is the "app.js" with Html5Mode enabled, just one line of code. 1: 'use strict'; 2:  3: var app = angular.module('demo', ['ui.router']); 4:  5: app.config(['$stateProvider', '$locationProvider', function ($stateProvider, $locationProvider) { 6: $stateProvider.state('view1', { 7: url: '/view1', 8: templateUrl: 'view1.html', 9: controller: 'View1Ctrl' }); 10:  11: $stateProvider.state('view2', { 12: url: '/view2', 13: templateUrl: 'view2.html', 14: controller: 'View2Ctrl' }); 15:  16: // enable html5mode 17: $locationProvider.html5Mode(true); 18: }]); 19:  20: app.controller('View1Ctrl', function ($scope) { 21: }); 22:  23: app.controller('View2Ctrl', function ($scope) { 24: }); Then let's went to the root path of our website and click "View 1" you will see there's no "#" in the address. But the problem is, if we hit F5 the browser will be turn to blank. This is because in this mode the browser told the web server I want static file named "view1" but there's no file on the server. So underlying our web server, which is built by ASP.NET vNext, responded 404. To fix this problem we need to create our own ASP.NET vNext middleware. What it needs to do is firstly try to respond the static file request with the default StaticFileMiddleware. If the response status code was 404 then change the request path value to the entry page and try again. 1: public class AngularServerMiddleware 2: { 3: private readonly AngularServerOptions _options; 4: private readonly RequestDelegate _next; 5: private readonly StaticFileMiddleware _innerMiddleware; 6:  7: public AngularServerMiddleware(RequestDelegate next, AngularServerOptions options) 8: { 9: _next = next; 10: _options = options; 11:  12: _innerMiddleware = new StaticFileMiddleware(next, options.FileServerOptions.StaticFileOptions); 13: } 14:  15: public async Task Invoke(HttpContext context) 16: { 17: // try to resolve the request with default static file middleware 18: await _innerMiddleware.Invoke(context); 19: Console.WriteLine(context.Request.Path + ": " + context.Response.StatusCode); 20: // route to root path if the status code is 404 21: // and need support angular html5mode 22: if (context.Response.StatusCode == 404 && _options.Html5Mode) 23: { 24: context.Request.Path = _options.EntryPath; 25: await _innerMiddleware.Invoke(context); 26: Console.WriteLine(">> " + context.Request.Path + ": " + context.Response.StatusCode); 27: } 28: } 29: } We need an option class where user can specify the host root path and the entry page path. 1: public class AngularServerOptions 2: { 3: public FileServerOptions FileServerOptions { get; set; } 4:  5: public PathString EntryPath { get; set; } 6:  7: public bool Html5Mode 8: { 9: get 10: { 11: return EntryPath.HasValue; 12: } 13: } 14:  15: public AngularServerOptions() 16: { 17: FileServerOptions = new FileServerOptions(); 18: EntryPath = PathString.Empty; 19: } 20: } We also need an extension method so that user can append this feature in "Startup.cs" easily. 1: public static class AngularServerExtension 2: { 3: public static IBuilder UseAngularServer(this IBuilder builder, string rootPath, string entryPath) 4: { 5: var options = new AngularServerOptions() 6: { 7: FileServerOptions = new FileServerOptions() 8: { 9: EnableDirectoryBrowsing = false, 10: FileSystem = new PhysicalFileSystem(System.IO.Path.Combine(AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory, rootPath)) 11: }, 12: EntryPath = new PathString(entryPath) 13: }; 14:  15: builder.UseDefaultFiles(options.FileServerOptions.DefaultFilesOptions); 16:  17: return builder.Use(next => new AngularServerMiddleware(next, options).Invoke); 18: } 19: } Now with these classes ready we will change our "Startup.cs", use this middleware replace the default one, tell the server try to load "index.html" file if it cannot find resource. The code below is just for demo purpose. I just tried to load "index.html" in all cases once the StaticFileMiddleware returned 404. In fact we need to validation to make sure this is an AngularJS route request instead of a normal static file request. 1: using System; 2: using Microsoft.AspNet.Builder; 3: using Microsoft.AspNet.FileSystems; 4: using Microsoft.AspNet.StaticFiles; 5: using Shaun.AspNet.Plugins.AngularServer; 6:  7: namespace Shaun.AspNet.Plugins.AngularServer.Demo 8: { 9: public class Startup 10: { 11: public void Configure(IBuilder app) 12: { 13: app.UseAngularServer("app", "/index.html"); 14: } 15: } 16: } Now let's run "k web" again and try to refresh our browser and we can see the page loaded successfully. In the console window we can find the original request got 404 and we try to find "index.html" and return the correct result.   Summary In this post I introduced how to use ASP.NET vNext to host AngularJS application as a static file server. I also demonstrated how to extend ASP.NET vNext, so that it supports AngularJS Html5Mode. • Implementing a generic repository for WCF data services

    - by cibrax
    The repository implementation I am going to discuss here is not exactly what someone would call repository in terms of DDD, but it is an abstraction layer that becomes handy at the moment of unit testing the code around this repository. In other words, you can easily create a mock to replace the real repository implementation. The WCF Data Services update for .NET 3.5 introduced a nice feature to support two way data bindings, which is very helpful for developing WPF or Silverlight based application but also for implementing the repository I am going to talk about. As part of this feature, the WCF Data Services Client library introduced a new collection DataServiceCollection<T> that implements INotifyPropertyChanged to notify the data context (DataServiceContext) about any change in the association links. This means that it is not longer necessary to manually set or remove the links in the data context when an item is added or removed from a collection. Before having this new collection, you basically used the following code to add a new item to a collection. Order order = new Order {   Name = "Foo" }; OrderItem item = new OrderItem {   Name = "bar",   UnitPrice = 10,   Qty = 1 }; var context = new OrderContext(); context.AddToOrders(order); context.AddToOrderItems(item); context.SetLink(item, "Order", order); context.SaveChanges(); Now, thanks to this new collection, everything is much simpler and similar to what you have in other ORMs like Entity Framework or L2S. Order order = new Order {   Name = "Foo" }; OrderItem item = new OrderItem {   Name = "bar",   UnitPrice = 10,   Qty = 1 }; order.Items.Add(item); var context = new OrderContext(); context.AddToOrders(order); context.SaveChanges(); In order to use this new feature, you first need to enable V2 in the data service, and then use some specific arguments in the datasvcutil tool (You can find more information about this new feature and how to use it in this post). DataSvcUtil /uri:"http://localhost:3655/MyDataService.svc/" /out:Reference.cs /dataservicecollection /version:2.0 Once you use those two arguments, the generated proxy classes will use DataServiceCollection<T> rather than a simple ObjectCollection<T>, which was the default collection in V1. There are some aspects that you need to know to use this feature correctly. 1. All the entities retrieved directly from the data context with a query track the changes and report those to the data context automatically. 2. A entity created with “new” does not track any change in the properties or associations. In order to enable change tracking in this entity, you need to do the following trick. public Order CreateOrder() {   var collection = new DataServiceCollection<Order>(this.context);   var order = new Order();   collection.Add(order);   return order; } You basically need to create a collection, and add the entity to that collection with the “Add” method to enable change tracking on that entity. 3. If you need to attach an existing entity (For example, if you created the entity with the “new” operator rather than retrieving it from the data context with a query) to a data context for tracking changes, you can use the “Load” method in the DataServiceCollection. var order = new Order {   Id = 1 }; var collection = new DataServiceCollection<Order>(this.context); collection.Load(order); In this case, the order with Id = 1 must exist on the data source exposed by the Data service. Otherwise, you will get an error because the entity did not exist. These cool extensions methods discussed by Stuart Leeks in this post to replace all the magic strings in the “Expand” operation with Expression Trees represent another feature I am going to use to implement this generic repository. Thanks to these extension methods, you could replace the following query with magic strings by a piece of code that only uses expressions. Magic strings, var customers = dataContext.Customers .Expand("Orders")         .Expand("Orders/Items") Expressions, var customers = dataContext.Customers .Expand(c => c.Orders.SubExpand(o => o.Items)) That query basically returns all the customers with their orders and order items. Ok, now that we have the automatic change tracking support and the expression support for explicitly loading entity associations, we are ready to create the repository. The interface for this repository looks like this,public interface IRepository { T Create<T>() where T : new(); void Update<T>(T entity); void Delete<T>(T entity); IQueryable<T> RetrieveAll<T>(params Expression<Func<T, object>>[] eagerProperties); IQueryable<T> Retrieve<T>(Expression<Func<T, bool>> predicate, params Expression<Func<T, object>>[] eagerProperties); void Attach<T>(T entity); void SaveChanges(); } The Retrieve and RetrieveAll methods are used to execute queries against the data service context. While both methods receive an array of expressions to load associations explicitly, only the Retrieve method receives a predicate representing the “where” clause. The following code represents the final implementation of this repository.public class DataServiceRepository: IRepository { ResourceRepositoryContext context; public DataServiceRepository() : this (new DataServiceContext()) { } public DataServiceRepository(DataServiceContext context) { this.context = context; } private static string ResolveEntitySet(Type type) { var entitySetAttribute = (EntitySetAttribute)type.GetCustomAttributes(typeof(EntitySetAttribute), true).FirstOrDefault(); if (entitySetAttribute != null) return entitySetAttribute.EntitySet; return null; } public T Create<T>() where T : new() { var collection = new DataServiceCollection<T>(this.context); var entity = new T(); collection.Add(entity); return entity; } public void Update<T>(T entity) { this.context.UpdateObject(entity); } public void Delete<T>(T entity) { this.context.DeleteObject(entity); } public void Attach<T>(T entity) { var collection = new DataServiceCollection<T>(this.context); collection.Load(entity); } public IQueryable<T> Retrieve<T>(Expression<Func<T, bool>> predicate, params Expression<Func<T, object>>[] eagerProperties) { var entitySet = ResolveEntitySet(typeof(T)); var query = context.CreateQuery<T>(entitySet); foreach (var e in eagerProperties) { query = query.Expand(e); } return query.Where(predicate); } public IQueryable<T> RetrieveAll<T>(params Expression<Func<T, object>>[] eagerProperties) { var entitySet = ResolveEntitySet(typeof(T)); var query = context.CreateQuery<T>(entitySet); foreach (var e in eagerProperties) { query = query.Expand(e); } return query; } public void SaveChanges() { this.context.SaveChanges(SaveChangesOptions.Batch); } } For instance, you can use the following code to retrieve customers with First name equal to “John”, and all their orders in a single call. repository.Retrieve<Customer>(    c => c.FirstName == “John”, //Where    c => c.Orders.SubExpand(o => o.Items)); In case, you want to have some pre-defined queries that you are going to use across several places, you can put them in an specific class. public static class CustomerQueries {   public static Expression<Func<Customer, bool>> LastNameEqualsTo(string lastName)   {     return c => c.LastName == lastName;   } } And then, use it with the repository. repository.Retrieve<Customer>(    CustomerQueries.LastNameEqualsTo("foo"),    c => c.Orders.SubExpand(o => o.Items));

  • Loading a Template From a User Control

    - by Ricardo Peres
    What if you wanted to load a template (ITemplate property) from an external user control (.ascx) file? Yes, it is possible; there are a number of ways to do this, the one I'll talk about here is through a type converter. You need to apply a TypeConverterAttribute to your ITemplate property where you specify a custom type converter that does the job. This type converter relies on InstanceDescriptor. Here is the code for it: public class TemplateTypeConverter: TypeConverter { public override Boolean CanConvertFrom(ITypeDescriptorContext context, Type sourceType) { return ((sourceType == typeof(String)) || (base.CanConvertFrom(context, sourceType) == true)); } public override Boolean CanConvertTo(ITypeDescriptorContext context, Type destinationType) { return ((destinationType == typeof(InstanceDescriptor)) || (base.CanConvertTo(context, destinationType) == true)); } public override Object ConvertTo(ITypeDescriptorContext context, CultureInfo culture, Object value, Type destinationType) { if (destinationType == typeof(InstanceDescriptor)) { Object objectFactory = value.GetType().GetField("_objectFactory", BindingFlags.NonPublic | BindingFlags.Instance).GetValue(value); Object builtType = objectFactory.GetType().BaseType.GetField("_builtType", BindingFlags.NonPublic | BindingFlags.Instance).GetValue(objectFactory); MethodInfo loadTemplate = typeof(TemplateTypeConverter).GetMethod("LoadTemplate"); return (new InstanceDescriptor(loadTemplate, new Object [] { "~/" + (builtType as Type).Name.Replace('_', '/').Replace("/ascx", ".ascx") })); } return base.ConvertTo(context, culture, value, destinationType); } public static ITemplate LoadTemplate(String virtualPath) { using (Page page = new Page()) { return (page.LoadTemplate(virtualPath)); } } } And, on your control: public class MyControl: Control { [Browsable(false)] [TypeConverter(typeof(TemplateTypeConverter))] public ITemplate Template { get; set; } } This allows the following declaration: Hope this helps! SyntaxHighlighter.config.clipboardSwf = 'http://alexgorbatchev.com/pub/sh/2.0.320/scripts/clipboard.swf'; SyntaxHighlighter.brushes.CSharp.aliases = ['c#', 'c-sharp', 'csharp']; SyntaxHighlighter.brushes.Xml.aliases = ['xml']; SyntaxHighlighter.all();

  • Putting a base in the middle

    - by PSteele
    From Eric Lippert's Blog: Here’s a crazy-seeming but honest-to-goodness real customer scenario that got reported to me recently. There are three DLLs involved, Alpha.DLL, Bravo.DLL and Charlie.DLL. The classes in each are: public class Alpha // In Alpha.DLL {   public virtual void M()   {     Console.WriteLine("Alpha");   } } public class Bravo: Alpha // In Bravo.DLL { } public class Charlie : Bravo // In Charlie.DLL {   public override void M()   {     Console.WriteLine("Charlie");     base.M();   } } Perfectly sensible. You call M on an instance of Charlie and it says “Charlie / Alpha”. Now the vendor who supplies Bravo.DLL ships a new version which has this code: public class Bravo: Alpha {   public override void M()   {     Console.WriteLine("Bravo");     base.M();   } } The question is: what happens if you call Charlie.M without recompiling Charlie.DLL, but you are loading the new version of Bravo.DLL? The customer was quite surprised that the output is still “Charlie / Alpha”, not “Charlie / Bravo / Alpha”. • Unit testing internal methods in a strongly named assembly/project

    - by Rohit Gupta
    If you need create Unit tests for internal methods within a assembly in Visual Studio 2005 or greater, then we need to add an entry in the AssemblyInfo.cs file of the assembly for which you are creating the units tests for. For e.g. if you need to create tests for a assembly named FincadFunctions.dll & this assembly contains internal/friend methods within which need to write unit tests for then we add a entry in the FincadFunctions.dll’s AssemblyInfo.cs file like so : 1: [assembly: System.Runtime.CompilerServices.InternalsVisibleTo("FincadFunctionsTests")] where FincadFunctionsTests is the name of the Unit Test project which contains the Unit Tests. However if the FincadFunctions.dll is a strongly named assembly then you will the following error when compiling the FincadFunctions.dll assembly :      Friend assembly reference “FincadFunctionsTests” is invalid. Strong-name assemblies must specify a public key in their InternalsVisibleTo declarations. Thus to add a public key token to InternalsVisibleTo Declarations do the following: You need the .snk file that was used to strong-name the FincadFunctions.dll assembly. You can extract the public key from this .snk with the sn.exe tool from the .NET SDK. First we extract just the public key from the key pair (.snk) file into another .snk file. sn -p test.snk test.pub Then we ask for the value of that public key (note we need the long hex key not the short public key token): sn -tp test.pub We end up getting a super LONG string of hex, but that's just what we want, the public key value of this key pair. We add it to the strongly named project "FincadFunctions.dll" that we want to expose our internals from. Before what looked like: 1: [assembly: System.Runtime.CompilerServices.InternalsVisibleTo("FincadFunctionsTests")] Now looks like. 1: [assembly: System.Runtime.CompilerServices.InternalsVisibleTo("FincadFunctionsTests, 2: PublicKey=002400000480000094000000060200000024000052534131000400000100010011fdf2e48bb")] And we're done. hope this helps

  • Is it a "pattern smell" to put getters like "FullName" or "FormattedPhoneNumber" in your model?

    - by DanM
    I'm working on an ASP.NET MVC app, and I've been getting into the habit of putting what seem like helpful and convenient getters into my model/entity classes. For example: public class Member { public int Id { get; set; } public string FirstName { get; set; } public string LastName { get; set; } public string PhoneNumber { get; set; } public string FullName { get { return FirstName + " " + LastName; } } public string FormattedPhoneNumber { get { return "(" + PhoneNumber.Substring(0, 3) + ") " + PhoneNumber.Substring(3, 3) + "-" + PhoneNumber.Substring(6); } } } I'm wondering people think about the FullName and FormattedPhoneNumber getters. They make it very easy to create standardized data formats throughout the app, and they seem to save a lot of repeated code, but it could definitely be argued that data format is something that should be handled in mapping from model to view-model. In fact, I was originally applying these data formats in my service layer where I do my mapping, but it was becoming a burden to constantly have to write formatters then apply them in many different places. E.g., I use "Full Name" in most views, and having to type something like model.FullName = MappingUtilities.GetFullName(entity.FirstName, entity.LastName); all over the place seemed a lot less elegant than just typing model.FullName = entity.FullName (or, if you use something like AutoMapper, potentially not typing anything at all). So, where do you draw the line when it comes to data formatting. Is it "okay" to do data formatting in your model or is that a "pattern smell"? Note: I definitely do not have any html in my model. I use html helpers for that. I'm strictly talking about formatting or combining data (and especially data that is frequently used).

  • Dapper and object validation/business rules enforcement

    - by Eugene
    This isn't really Dapper-specific, actually, as it relates to any XML-serializeable object.. but it came up when I was storing an object using Dapper. Anyways, say I have a user class. Normally, I'd do something like this: class User { public string SIN {get; private set;} public string DisplayName {get;set;} public User(string sin) { if (string.IsNullOrWhiteSpace(sin)) throw new ArgumentException("SIN must be specified"); this.SIN = sin; } } Since a SIN is required, I'd just create a constructor with a sin parameter, and make it read-only. However, with a Dapper (and probably any other ORM), I need to provide a parameterless constructor, and make all properties writeable. So now I have this: class User: IValidatableObject { public int Id { get; set; } public string SIN { get; set; } public string DisplayName { get; set; } public IEnumerable<ValidationResult> Validate(ValidationContext validationContext) { // implementation } } This seems.. can't really pick the word, a bad smell? A) I'm allowing to change properties that should not be changed ever after an object has been created (SIN, userid) B) Now I have to implement IValidatableObject or something like that to test those properties before updating them to db. So how do you go about it ?
