  Hi, ok, I managed to read from xml file using NSXMLParser but now i don't know how to write to xml file. I have a xml file , say <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <root> <user id="abcd" password="pass1"/> <user id="efg" password="pass2"/> </root> Now when a new user enters details, I want to store them in a new tag.. lets say like, the id is "hhhh" and password is"pass3" I want to add a new tag with attributes as such <user id="hhhh" password="pass3"/> to the xml file. How should I do this. Please explain in an elaborate way . I am a newbie here. Any links to tutorials or examples will be much helpful. Thanks

• ASPNET MVC what do you call this, a partial view? Or something else?

  I'm trying to google for info on a situation, but I dont know what it is called, so its hard to find results :) I have a model with say 10 fields. But only some of those are shown on a particular view, lets say 3 of them: id, name, date. What do you call this kind of view that does not display the whole model? A partial view? The problem is that because 7 fields are not sent to the view, when the Update action is called on the controller, those fields are null, and the DB gets updated with those 7 fields set to null.

• Pagination using Ajax in jquery Datatables

  I am using dataTables plugin for a table on a page I am working on. Its basically fetching rows through an ajax call and in this ajax call, I send the search params that the user selects and the page number required. I need the Next, Previous, First and Last buttons to also fire the same ajax call, but with different page numbers, as the back-end interceptor depends on the page number. This api call would return total no. of rows(say 1000) belonging for these search params and the rows with the page size( say 50). Is there any way, I can use data table to do this?

• Most optimal way to detect if black (or any color pixels) exist in an image file?

  What's the best and most flexible algorithm to detect any black (or colored pixel) in a given image file? Say I'm given an image file that could, say, have a blue background. And any non blue pixel, including a white pixel, is counted as a "mark". The function returns true if there are X number of pixels that deviate from each other at a certain threshold. I thought it'd be fastest to just simply iterate through every pixel and see if its color matches the last. But if it's the case that pixel (0,0) is deviant, and every other pixel is the same color (and I want to allow at least a couple deviated pixels before considering an image to be "marked), this won't work or be terribly efficient.

  Hi I have 2 models in my django code: class ModelA(models.Model): name = models.CharField(max_length=255) description = models.CharField(max_length=255) created_by = models.ForeignKey(User) class ModelB(models.Model): category = models.CharField(max_length=255) modela_link = models.ForeignKey(ModelA, 'modelb_link') functions = models.CharField(max_length=255) created_by = models.ForeignKey(User) Say ModelA has 100 records, all of which may or may not have links to ModelB Now say I want to get a list of every ModelA record along with the data from ModelB I would do: list_a = ModelA.objects.all() Then to get the data for ModelB I would have to do for i in list_a: i.additional_data = i.modelb_link.all() However this runs a query on every instance of i. Thus making 101 queries to run. Is there any way of running this all in just 1 query. Or at least less than the 101 queries. I've tried putting in ModelA.objects.select_related().all() but this didn't seem to have any effect. Thanks

• GAE app.yaml appears to be inconsistently routing requests

  I have the following in app.yaml: - url: /gae_mini_profiler/static static_dir: gae_mini_profiler/static - url: /gae_mini_profiler/.* script: gae_mini_profiler/main.py - url: .* script: main.py and the following in gae_mini_profiler/main.py: def main(): logging.critical("gae_mini_profiler request!") run_wsgi_app(application) However, when I fire requests to, say, /gae_mini_profiler/request?request=ABC, and repeatedly reload the page, sometimes I will get the proper response (as well as a "gae_mini_profiler request!" log entry, and sometimes I get a blank response and nothing in the App Engine logs other than a 200 with an empty response body. This is completely reproducible, only happens in the live environment, and I'd say ~50% of the refreshes work while 50% do not. This only happens in production. Any ideas?

• Display username to logged in user only?

  I have a Wordpress blog set up to display comments as "Anonymous User" by hard coding it into the comments.php file. I would like to have it say the user's Username next to their comment and ONLY display that Username to THEM. In other words, if they're a guest, they'll see "Anonymous User" and if they're a registered/logged in DIFFERENT user, they'll still see "Anonymous User", but if it's THEIR comment it'll say "Your Comment" or their own username.   Hi guys, I have this thing that i need to do and some advices will be greatly appreciated. I have a Sql server table with some phone calls.For each phone call i have the start and end time. What i need to accomplish: a stored procedure which for a certain period of time, let's say 5 hours at a x interval, lets say 2 minutes returns the number of connected calls. Something like: Interval Nr of Calls Connected 01-01-2010 12:00:00 - 01-01-2010 12:05:00 30 01-01-2010 12:05:01 - 01-01-2010 12:10:00 10 ............. Which will be the fastest way to do that? • autosave pattern

  I'm using localstorage to do gmail-style autosave on a webpage. So I basically save every 30 seconds to local, OK. The problem is recovery. I can't detect whether or not a user has crashed or incorrectly exited. So let's say the user crashed and loads up the form again, I can't just continue saving and overwriting the previous autosaves. I need to restore the previous save. But let's say the user didn't crash. He did everything correctly, but then used a different browser to edit the same file, so no new data to the previous browser's localstorage. He then loads up the file in the previous browser. The localstorage should not be restored in that case. Assuming there's no way to compare timestamps, how can I solve this problem? Thanks.

• How do I pick the most beneficial combination of items from a set of items?

  I'm designing a piece of a game where the AI needs to determine which combination of armor will give the best overall stat bonus to the character. Each character will have about 10 stats, of which only 3-4 are important, and of those important ones, a few will be more important than the others. Armor will also give a boost to 1 or all stats. For example, a shirt might give +4 to the character's int and +2 stamina while at the same time, a pair of pants may have +7 strength and nothing else. So let's say that a character has a healthy choice of armor to use (5 pairs of pants, 5 pairs of gloves, etc.) We've designated that Int and Perception are the most important stats for this character. How could I write an algorithm that would determine which combination of armor and items would result in the highest of any given stat (say in this example Int and Perception)?

  I understand how declared properties work - I just need a clarification on when Objective C is using the accessor method vs. when it is not. Say I have a property declared using retain: @property (nonatomic, retain) NSDate *date; ... and later... @synthesize date If I say: date = x Is that calling the accessor method? Or is it just setting the variable? self.date = x This seems to call the accessor method (I think but I'm not sure, since it seems like the retain count is increasing). Can anyone clarify this issue? I'm curious because i have some variables that seem to become invalid before I need them (and I have to specifically call retain), and I suspect this is why.

• Mercurial Merging only certain changesets

  Ok, so we recently converted from SVN to Mercurial. We are using TortoiseHG normally. In our one repository we have all of our projects, C++ / .NET / ASP. We have about 100 projects, all using common library projects. So it would be quite difficult task to create multiple repo's for each project. Now, we have the default branch, and let's say branchA. I'm working on BranchA and adding my uber changes to it, and I change a common library, let's say an extension method I want to commit this to branchA and default, how would I go about this? However, I don't want all my changes from branchA to be merged into default, and I don't want all the other changes from default Hopefully this is sufficient information!

• why a .net 1.1 code gets compiled in 2.0 and throws an error?

  Hi I have a web projects which is build in VS2003/1.1 framework and deployed in a webserver with IIS setting specified to 1.1 framework.lets say project X I also have another web project which is build with VS2008/2.0. IIS setting - ASP version 2.0 is selected and all pages are assigned to run with 2.0* dlls. Lets say project Y Now the problem seem to be when I hit project x, sometimes it throws errors like "error BC30456: 'Initialize Culture' is not a member of 'ASP.**" During troubleshooting this issue, I browsed through 2.0 Temporary ASP.Net files "C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\Temporary ASP.NET Files\" and found temp files generated for project X. (HUH?) How/why 1.1 project gets compiled in 2.0 only when it errors out.( or we could put it this way that it errors out every time it gets compiled in 2.0 which it is not supposed to) I'm confused as to why this is happening when project X has nothing to do with .net 2.0.

• Is it more secure to run a desktop app in a applet?

  Fist of all, when I say "run a desktop app in a applet" I mean do a Applet application that runs off-line, instead of a Desktop application that runs inside a JFrame. The little I know about applets (and maybe something I say is wrong, please correct me) is that applets have all permitions not granted by default. Also, the applets run inside a Sandbox, that does not allow information in or out without explicity permition. So, if I am focused on security in my application, its best to run it inside an applet (off-line, for a desktop application) then inside a JFrame. Is it right?

  When building a rails app that allows a User to login and create data, is it best to setup a belongs_to :user association on every single model? For example, let's say a user can create Favorites, Colors and Tags. And let's say Favorites has_many :tags and Colors also has_many :tags. Is it still important for Tags to belong_to :user assuming the User is the only person who has authority to edit those tags? And a similar question along the same lines: When updating data in FavoritesController, I've come to the conclusion that you perform CRUD operations by always doing something like User.favorites.find(params[:id].update_attributes(param[:favorite]) so that they can definitely only update models that belong to them. Right?

  Hi, This is my doubt on what we regard as a "unit" while unit-testing. say I have a method like this, public String myBigMethod() { String resultOne = moduleOneObject.someOperation(); String resultTwo = moduleTwoObject.someOtherOperation(resultOne); return resultTwo; } ( I have unit-tests written for someOperation() and someOtherOperation() seperately ) and this myBigMethod() kinda integrates ModuleOne and ModuleTwo by using them as above, then, is the method "myBigMethod()" still considered as a "unit" ? Should I be writing a test for this "myBigMethod()" ? Say I have written a test for myBigMethod()... If testSomeOperation() fails, it would also result in testMyBigMethod() to fail... Now testMyBigMethod()'s failure might show a not-so-correct-location of the bug. One-Cause causing two tests to fail doesn't look so good to me. But donno if there's any better way...? Is there ? Say, for instance, I just want to plot a single point, or a single grid, what can I do? I thought perhaps to plot a single point I could use: surf(X(1,1), Y(1,1), Z(1,1)) But then I get the error message: ??? Error using ==> surf at 78 Data dimensions must agree. I would really appreciate some input/help here. Thanks in advance :)

  So I upgraded on a fresh install to ubuntu 12.10, not beta, and I've tried installing wine many mannnnyy times now many different ways but the jist of it is this "This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. So this B-tree is just a single node containing 7 elements. Then you try to insert J into the tree. There's no room, so you have to split the node and create a new root node.
