  • Spring 3.0 REST implementation or Jersey?

    Hi, SO! I'm currently trying to figure out which implementation of JSR-311 I'm going to recommend further up the food chain. I've pretty much narrowed it down to two options - Spring 3.0 with it's native support for REST - or use Sun's own Jersey (Restlets might also be an option). To me it doesn't seem to be much of a difference in the actual syntax, but there might be issues with performance that I haven't figured out yet. The service is meant to replace some heavy-duty EJB's and make a RESTful Webservice instead. The load is expected to be rather high, up in the 100k users per day (max) range, but will be seriously load balanced. Thanks for all your insights.

  • Bitmap size exceeds VM budget after second load

    This is driving me crazy. I have a game which has a bitmap as the background, this is big so I scale it down and this works fine. However when I navigate to another activity and then reload the game screen it crashes on drawing the background. I am calling recycle on all the bitmaps and setting them to null on onDestroy() but this doesn't help. Any ideas and if not how can I debug the memory to see at which step its growing. I looked at getting the heap but nothing of any size is on there really. Thanks.

  • How to debug JBoss out of memory problem?

    Hello, I am trying to debug a JBoss out of memory problem. When JBoss starts up and runs for a while, it seems to use memory as intended by the startup configuration. However, it seems that when some unknown user action is taken (or the log file grows to a certain size) using the sole web application JBoss is serving up, memory increases dramatically and JBoss freezes. When JBoss freezes, it is difficult to kill the process or do anything because of low memory. When the process is finally killed via a -9 argument and the server is restarted, the log file is very small and only contains outputs from the startup of the newly started process and not any information on why the memory increased so much. This is why it is so hard to debug: server.log does not have information from the killed process. The log is set to grow to 2 GB and the log file for the new process is only about 300 Kb though it grows properly during normal memory circumstances. This is information on the JBoss configuration: JBoss (MX MicroKernel) 4.0.3 JDK 1.6.0 update 22 PermSize=512m MaxPermSize=512m Xms=1024m Xmx=6144m This is basic info on the system: Operating system: CentOS Linux 5.5 Kernel and CPU: Linux 2.6.18-194.26.1.el5 on x86_64 Processor information: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5420 @ 2.50GHz, 8 cores This is good example information on the system during normal pre-freeze conditions a few minutes after the jboss service startup: Running processes: 183 CPU load averages: 0.16 (1 min) 0.06 (5 mins) 0.09 (15 mins) CPU usage: 0% user, 0% kernel, 1% IO, 99% idle Real memory: 17.38 GB total, 2.46 GB used Virtual memory: 19.59 GB total, 0 bytes used Local disk space: 113.37 GB total, 11.89 GB used When JBoss freezes, system information looks like this: Running processes: 225 CPU load averages: 4.66 (1 min) 1.84 (5 mins) 0.93 (15 mins) CPU usage: 0% user, 12% kernel, 73% IO, 15% idle Real memory: 17.38 GB total, 17.18 GB used Virtual memory: 19.59 GB total, 706.29 MB used Local disk space: 113.37 GB total, 11.89 GB used

  • Is my way of doing threads in Android correct?

    Hi, I'm writing a live wallpaper, and I'm forking off two separate threads in my main wallpaper service. One updates, and the other draws. I was under the impression that once you call thread.start(), it took care of everything for you, but after some trial and error, it seems that if I want my update and draw threads to keep running, I have to manually keep calling their run() methods? In other words, instead of calling start() on both threads and forgetting, I have to manually set up a delayed handler event that calls thread.run() on both the update and draw threads every 16 milliseconds. Is this the correct way of having a long running thread? Also, to kill threads, I'm just setting them to be daemons, then nulling them out. Is this method ok? Most examples I see use some sort of join() / interrupt() in a while loop...I don't understand that one...

    I'm parsing (a lot of) XML files that contain entity references which i dont know in advance (can't change that fact). For example: xml = "<tag>I'm content with &funny; &entity; &references;.</tag>" when i try to parse this using the following code: final DocumentBuilderFactory dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance(); final DocumentBuilder db = dbf.newDocumentBuilder(); final InputSource is = new InputSource(new StringReader(xml)); final Document d = db.parse(is); i get the following exception: org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: The entity "funny" was referenced, but not declared. but, what i do want to achieve is, that the parser replaces every entity that is not declared (unknown to the parser) with an empty String ''. Or even better, is there a way to pass a map to the parser like: Map<String,String> entityMapping = ... entityMapping.put("funny","very"); entityMapping.put("entity","important"); entityMapping.put("references","stuff"); so that i could do the following: final DocumentBuilderFactory dbf = DocumentBuilderFactory.newInstance(); final DocumentBuilder db = dbf.newDocumentBuilder(); final InputSource is = new InputSource(new StringReader(xml)); db.setEntityResolver(entityMapping); final Document d = db.parse(is); if i would obtain the text from the document using this example code i should receive: I'm content with very important stuff.   • JBoss - does app have to be compiled under same jdk as JBOSS is running under?

    I'm a little confused about JBOSS and running it under different JDKs. For example, let's say I'm running JBOSS 5.1, and before starting it I set my JAVA_HOME to point to JDK5. Let's also assume that my JEE application is compiled under JDK6. If I deploy the JEE app (compiled under JDK6) to JBOSS, when I try to look up my EJBs I get errors like: javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: tc_test_project not bound But if I recompile my code under JDK5 and redeploy it, it works fine and is able to lookup the EJBs ok. Likewise, I can set JAVA_HOME to JDK6 and start JBOSS, and my code (compiled under JDK6) will run ok under that scenario (it's able to find the EBJs, etc.). So it seems that your JEE app needs to be compiled under the same JAVA_HOME that the JBOSS server is going to be running under, or am I misunderstanding something? Just wanted to get confirmation, thanks.

  • How to execute maven tasks in eclipse (Sonatype plugin)

    Hi all I know it must be something simple, but I just can't figure it out.. I'm using the Sonatype maven plugin on eclipse. When I want to build a war file for a webapp project, the only way I know to do it is to use the command line and type mvn package. I've looked all through the right click menu and I can't find any way to do it from eclipse. There's a maven submenu that seems to have no options to do with building, and there's a run menu that doesn't seem right - I don't want to run my project - I just want to build it. There is a maven build option in the run menu, but if I run it, a configuration window pops up for me to enter goals in.. How I do I just do a simple mvn package, but through gui? What am I missing?     Maybe it's not worth worrying about in this scenario, but lets say you have two classes, a JFrame with all its components, and a server-like class that handles requests from remote clients. The user is able to start and stop server objects through the GUI, and is shown various events that happen to each server object. Whether or not I use an explicit pattern (like MVC), it seems like the JFrame needs a reference to the server class (to call start and stop) and the server needs a reference to the JFrame (to notify of it of certain events). Is this a problem, or am I looking at this situation in the wrong way?

    Study question is to find the digit root of a already provided number. The teacher provides us with the number 2638. In order to find the digit root you have to add each digit separately 2 + 6 + 3 + 8 = 19. Then you take the result 19 and add those two digits together 1 + 9 = 10. Do the same thing again 1 + 0 = 1. The digit root is 1. My first step was to use the variable total to add up the number 2638 to find the total of 19. Then I tried to use the second while loop to separate the two digits by using the % I have to try and solve the problem by using basic integer arithmetic (+, -, *, /). 1.Is it necessary and or possible to solve the problem using nested while loops? 2.Is my math correct? 3. As I wrote it here it does not run in Eclipse.   • How to format dates in Jahia 6 CMS?

    I am helping a friend of mine put up a site for his business. I’ve read different posts and sites trying to find the ideal CMS tool, but people have different views of what is the best, so I finally just picked one of them at random. So I went for an evaluation of Jahia 6.0-CE. As you’ve probably guessed by now, I don’t have so much experience with CMS tools. I just want to setup the CMS, write the templates for the site and let my friend manage the content from there on. So I extracted the sources from SVN and went for a test drive. I managed to create some simple templates to get a hang of things but now I have an issue with a date format. In my definitions.cnd I declared the field like so: date myDateField (datetimepicker[format='dd.MM.yyyy']) This is formatted in the page and the selector also presents this in the dd.MM.yyyy format when inserting the content. But how about sites in other countries, countries that represent the date as MM.dd.yyyy for example? If I specify the format in the CND, hard coded, how can I change this later on so that it adapts based on the browser’s language? Do I extract the content from the repository and format it by hand in the JSP template based on a Locale, or is there a better way? Thank you.

    Hello, I have JTextPane on my window and i have JTextField. When i press enter enter in JTextField, the text gets added in JTextPane. Everything works fine and scrollbar too appears on its own. But, it doesn't appear properly. It automatically scrolls to the beginning of the content in JTextPane. How do i keep the scrollbar to the end of JTextPane?     I have some code calling a webservice and it returns an id. I am saving this id in the database using hibernate. I have a filter that opens the session and commits it, rolling back when any exception occurs within the contained code. Since there is no way to get back the id returned by the webservice I would like to save this in the database EVEN if there is an exception that occurred later on in the code. Is there anyway to do this using the same session?

    I've been having troubles trying to figure out how to solve a function. I've been assigned the development of a little programme which tells if a number is "triangular" (a number is triangular when the addition of certain consecutive numbers in the [1,n] interval is n. Following the definition, the number 10 is triangular, because in the [1,10] interval, 1+2+3+4=10). As I see the function, it goes like this: I state that the input number in the initial state isn't triangular (triangular=false) and i=n (determining the interval [1,i] where the function is going to be evaluated While n is greater or equals 0 and the number isn't triangular, the loop starts The loop goes like this: if the addition of all the numbers in the [1,i] interval is n, the number is triangular, causing the loop to end. If that statement is false, i goes from i to (i-1), starting the loop again with that particular interval, and so on till the addition is n. I can't spot the error in my "algorithm", any advice?
