• Need to test .properties one by one in every possibility?

  For example, there are some key-value configuration in .properties file. Such like someFeatureEnable=true. It must be bool type value which will be parsed by framework, in my case it's typical Java Spring configuration. Spring will handle the configuration and throw Exception when users set someFeatureEnable=123. My question is: if there many properties in .properties file, Is it worth testing them one by one? It's quite troublesome and low priority. The .properties file is always configured by tech administrator stuff. Limited chances that they will mess up the configuration. Thanks!

  Is it my perception or is it reality that it is harder to get software development work in Silicon Valley, than in other population centers? My theory is that some of the best and brightest (and youngest) are all here. All working for the top tech companies. And, little ol' me, over 40, math degree (not at Standford or Berkeley), ok at algorithms, and with many skills with many programming tools and concepts, but not published, and not top my class has a bit of a tough time competing.   As we all know Google treats sub-domains as completely separate domains so we have to fight for both, to get ranked in search results. One of my client website was like they having example.com and blog.example.com. So in mind to keep all stuff in one place we redirect blog.example.com to example.com/blog/ But in this case we lost our pagerank and are still wondering where we went wrong or it just takes few more time to showoff.   I am hosting collection of videos, for which I retain the copyright, on a file server that I'd like to share with family and friends. When a user visits the my fileserver via a web browser they are asked to authenticate using HTTP auth and then they are presented with a basic list of the files. I'd like to build web application that provides a clean interface with simply library functionality. However, this app will be hosted on a different server. I'm trying to figure out a security model for my file server that doesn't require the user to login to both the file-server and the hosting-server. I want to make this as easy as possible for my non-tech savy family while still maintaining security for my files.

• How steep is the learning curve when moving from shared (cPanel) webhosting to a VPS (e.g. Linode)?

  In all shared hosting environments, one can be agnostic to the running OS. What happens in the case of Linode? I know it allows pretty flexible Linux installations, but for starters, besides choosing a distro, does one need to do more Linux sysadmin stuff besides the basic web hosting (DNS management, MySql database creations, users ftp/ssh access/ backups)? Does Linode have a module that would cover cPanel's basic features? Does one need to install/start/upgrade each aspect of LAMP (software bundle)?

  I can start up IntelliJ Idea using the commandline, which is a shell script that starts up a java process. It then appears in the launcher, as normal. I can select "Keep in Launcher", but it only remains there until I reboot, then it disapears again. This is the only application I've seen that does this - Stuff already in the applications menu stocks around fine if I tell it to stay in the launcher.

  C++11 has opened ways, which were only dreamt by the C++ programmers. It has been three years since I have been learning C++, and I am going well. Now I want to get into vedio games. Every core of the game code I saw, was monstourously writtern in C++.   During the installation of my Ubuntu 12.10 I could use the wireless connection for extra updates. After the installation I updated Ubuntu and it installed 74 new updates, after that no wireless connection (say what!). So I did try some stuff, I followed the tutorial to load the windows drivers using ndiswrapper (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/Ndiswrapper) but I always get that the ndiswrapper module is not loaded (but I did install the extra 3 packages, still doesnt work). ndiswrapper-source ndiswrapper-dkms ndiswrapper-common Please somebody help! • C# Drawing On Separate Thread [migrated]

• Ubuntu Server Configuration -- Harddrive Partitioning

  Currently Ubuntu Server is telling me that when I'm making a new partition for Ubuntu Server on this NTFS 1TB HD that I currently have installed to the hardware, that the partition must be a minimum of 52% of the hard drive space or ~521GB. I'm almost positive that this will run into other data, as I have quite a bit of stuff on the hard drive currently. Can I not make a Ubuntu server partition on that hard drive at like 100GB or something? Why does it require so much?

• 13.04: update-initramfs works but mkinitramfs fails from APT

  I'm experiencing a strange thing, I've freshly upgraded from 12.10 to 13.04, Everything is fine except that it can't build the initrd image automatically, it fails and prints out the mkinitramfs's Usage output. I tried to debug the "mkinitramfs" script and it appears the $outfile variable is never set. However, I'm able to produce the ramdisk manually like follow: update-initramfs -c -u 3.0.8-23-generic I tried most of the stuff seen on the net: purge, reinstall but no help but nothing, and I can't use linux-image is marked as "broken" but the kernel exists in /boot.
