  • i386 assembly question: why do I need to meddle with the stack pointer?

    - by zneak
    Hello everyone, I decided it would be fun to learn x86 assembly during the summer break. So I started with a very simple hello world program, borrowing on free examples gcc -S could give me. I ended up with this: HELLO: .ascii "Hello, world!\12\0" .text .globl _main _main: pushl %ebp # 1. puts the base stack address on the stack movl %esp, %ebp # 2. puts the base stack address in the stack address register subl $20, %esp # 3. ??? pushl $HELLO # 4. push HELLO's address on the stack call _puts # 5. call puts xorl %eax, %eax # 6. zero %eax, probably not necessary since we didn't do anything with it leave # 7. clean up ret # 8. return # PROFIT! It compiles and even works! And I think I understand most of it. Though, magic happens at step 3. Would I remove this line, my program would die between the call to puts and the xor from a misaligned stack error. And would I change $20 to another value, it'd crash too. So I came to the conclusion that this value is very important. Problem is, I don't know what it does and why it's needed. Can anyone explain me? (I'm on Mac OS, would it ever matter.)

  • Non-latin-characters ordering in database with "order by"

    - by nybon
    I just found some strange behavior of database's "order by" clause. In string comparison, I expected some characters such as '[' and '_' are greater than latin characters such as 'i' considering their orders in the ASCII table. However, the sorting results from database's "order by" clause is different with my expectation. Here's my test: SQLite version 3.6.23 Enter ".help" for instructions Enter SQL statements terminated with a ";" sqlite> create table products(name varchar(10)); sqlite> insert into products values('ipod'); sqlite> insert into products values('iphone'); sqlite> insert into products values('[apple]'); sqlite> insert into products values('_ipad'); sqlite> select * from products order by name asc; [apple] _ipad iphone ipod This behavior is different from Java's string comparison (which cost me some time to find this issue). I can verify this in both SQLite 3.6.23 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005. I did some web search but cannot find any related documentation. Could someone shed me some light on it? Is it a SQL standard? Where can I find some information about this? Thanks in advance.

  • Why Illegal cookies are send by Browser and received by web servers (rfc 2109, 2965)?

    - by Artyom
    Hello, According to RFC 2109, 2965 cookie's value can be either HTTP token or quoted string, and token can't include non-ASCII characters. Cookie's RFC 2109 and RFC2965 HTTP's RFC 2068 token definition: http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2068#page-16 However I had found that Firefox browser (3.0.6) sends cookies with utf-8 string as-is and three web servers I tested (apache2, lighttpd, nginx) pass this string as-is to the application. For example, raw request from browser: $ nc -l -p 8080 GET /hello HTTP/1.1 Host: localhost:8080 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.9) Gecko/2009050519 Firefox/2.0.0.13 (Debian-3.0.6-1) Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate Accept-Charset: windows-1255,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 300 Connection: keep-alive Cookie: wikipp=1234; wikipp_username=?????? Cache-Control: max-age=0 And raw response of apache, nginx and lighttpd HTTP_COOKIE CGI variable: wikipp=1234; wikipp_username=?????? What do I miss? Can somebody explain me?

  • C# udp can not receive any data

    - by StoneHeart
    here is my code Socket sck = new Socket(AddressFamily.InterNetwork, SocketType.Dgram, ProtocolType.Udp); sck.Bind(new IPEndPoint(IPAddress.Any, 0)); // Broadcast to find server string msg = "Imlookingforaserver:" + udp_listen_port; byte[] sendBytes4 = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(msg); IPEndPoint groupEP = new IPEndPoint(IPAddress.Parse("255.255.255.255"), server_port); sck.SetSocketOption(SocketOptionLevel.Socket, SocketOptionName.Broadcast, 1); sck.SendTo(sendBytes4, groupEP); //Wait response from server Socket sck2 = new Socket(AddressFamily.InterNetwork, SocketType.Dgram, ProtocolType.Udp); sck2.Bind(new IPEndPoint(IPAddress.Any, udp_listen_port)); byte[] buffer = new byte[128]; EndPoint remoteEndPoint = new IPEndPoint(IPAddress.Any, udp_listen_port); sck2.ReceiveFrom(buffer, ref remoteEndPoint); //<<< I never pass this line I use above code to try find a server. First i broadcast a message and then i wait response from server. A test i made with the server written in c++ and running in windows vista, client written in C# and run on the same machine with server. Problem is: The server can receive message which client broadcast. But client can not receive anything from server. I try to write a client with c++ and it work like a charm, i think my problem is in C# client.

  • how to login to criaglist through c#

    - by kosikiza
    i m using the following code to login to criaglist, but hav't successsed yet. string formParams = string.Format("inputEmailHandle={0}&inputPassword={1}", "[email protected]", "pakistan01"); //string postData = "[email protected]&inputPassword=pakistan01"; string uri = "https://accounts.craigslist.org/"; HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(uri); request.KeepAlive = true; request.ProtocolVersion = HttpVersion.Version10; request.Method = "POST"; byte[] postBytes = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(formParams); request.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"; request.ContentLength = postBytes.Length; Stream requestStream = request.GetRequestStream(); requestStream.Write(postBytes, 0, postBytes.Length); requestStream.Close(); HttpWebResponse response = (HttpWebResponse)request.GetResponse(); cookyHeader = response.Headers["Set-cookie"]; string pageSource; string getUrl = "https://post.craigslist.org/del"; WebRequest getRequest = WebRequest.Create(getUrl); getRequest.Headers.Add("Cookie", cookyHeader); WebResponse getResponse = getRequest.GetResponse(); using (StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(getResponse.GetResponseStream())) { pageSource = sr.ReadToEnd(); }

  • Ignore case in Python strings

    - by Paul Oyster
    What is the easiest way to compare strings in Python, ignoring case? Of course one can do (str1.lower() <= str2.lower()), etc., but this created two additional temporary strings (with the obvious alloc/g-c overheads). I guess I'm looking for an equivalent to C's stricmp(). [Some more context requested, so I'll demonstrate with a trivial example:] Suppose you want to sort a looong list of strings. You simply do theList.sort(). This is O(n * log(n)) string comparisons and no memory management (since all strings and list elements are some sort of smart pointers). You are happy. Now, you want to do the same, but ignore the case (let's simplify and say all strings are ascii, so locale issues can be ignored). You can do theList.sort(key=lambda s: s.lower()), but then you cause two new allocations per comparison, plus burden the garbage-collector with the duplicated (lowered) strings. Each such memory-management noise is orders-of-magnitude slower than simple string comparison. Now, with an in-place stricmp()-like function, you do: theList.sort(cmp=stricmp) and it is as fast and as memory-friendly as theList.sort(). You are happy again. The problem is any Python-based case-insensitive comparison involves implicit string duplications, so I was expecting to find a C-based comparisons (maybe in module string). Could not find anything like that, hence the question here. (Hope this clarifies the question).

  • Looking for a specific featured content slider script - PHP (and jQuery, I think)

    - by Sootah
    I was looking around a few days ago for a new script to replace the featured content area on my website's current implementation. Randomly, I can across a gorgeous one that I have not been able to find again because, like an idiot, I didn't bookmark the page. It's difficult to explain what the slider looked like, so I'll try to make a crude ASCII image of it: When you would hover your mouse over one of the "title" areas that were visible, the rest of the tags would slide to the right and show the one you were hovering on. You could also hover the mouse over a tab on the right and the tabs would collapse left for the same effect. I don't know if this particular effect has a specific name to it, but for the life of me I cannot find this script again, or anything even like it. It was gorgeous. I've resorted to combing through my browser history, but there is sooooo much of it, and I cannot remember what day I saw it. So, if any of you know either what the name of this effect is, or even BETTER, what script I'm talking about, I would REAAAAALLLLYYY appreciate a link! Thanks as always! -Sootah

  • undefined reference to function, despite giving reference in c

    - by Jamie Edwards
    I'm following a tutorial, but when it comes to compiling and linking the code I get the following error: /tmp/cc8gRrVZ.o: In function `main': main.c:(.text+0xa): undefined reference to `monitor_clear' main.c:(.text+0x16): undefined reference to `monitor_write' collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make: *** [obj/main.o] Error 1 What that is telling me is that I haven't defined both 'monitor_clear' and 'monitor_write'. But I have, in both the header and source files. They are as follows: monitor.c: // monitor.c -- Defines functions for writing to the monitor. // heavily based on Bran's kernel development tutorials, // but rewritten for JamesM's kernel tutorials. #include "monitor.h" // The VGA framebuffer starts at 0xB8000. u16int *video_memory = (u16int *)0xB8000; // Stores the cursor position. u8int cursor_x = 0; u8int cursor_y = 0; // Updates the hardware cursor. static void move_cursor() { // The screen is 80 characters wide... u16int cursorLocation = cursor_y * 80 + cursor_x; outb(0x3D4, 14); // Tell the VGA board we are setting the high cursor byte. outb(0x3D5, cursorLocation >> 8); // Send the high cursor byte. outb(0x3D4, 15); // Tell the VGA board we are setting the low cursor byte. outb(0x3D5, cursorLocation); // Send the low cursor byte. } // Scrolls the text on the screen up by one line. static void scroll() { // Get a space character with the default colour attributes. u8int attributeByte = (0 /*black*/ << 4) | (15 /*white*/ & 0x0F); u16int blank = 0x20 /* space */ | (attributeByte << 8); // Row 25 is the end, this means we need to scroll up if(cursor_y >= 25) { // Move the current text chunk that makes up the screen // back in the buffer by a line int i; for (i = 0*80; i < 24*80; i++) { video_memory[i] = video_memory[i+80]; } // The last line should now be blank. • cookies handling on webrequest and response

    - by manish patel
    I have created a application that has a function mainpost. It is created to post data on a https sites. Here I want to handle cookies in this function. How can I do this task? public string Mainpost(string website, string content) { // this is what we are sending string post_data = content; // this is where we will send it string uri = website; // create a request HttpWebRequest request = (HttpWebRequest) WebRequest.Create(uri); request.KeepAlive = false; request.ProtocolVersion = HttpVersion.Version10; request.Method = "POST"; // turn our request string into a byte stream byte[] postBytes = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(post_data); // this is important - make sure you specify type this way request.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"; request.ContentLength = postBytes.Length; Stream requestStream = request.GetRequestStream(); // now send it requestStream.Write(postBytes, 0, postBytes.Length); requestStream.Close(); // grab te response and print it out to the console along with the status // code HttpWebResponse response = (HttpWebResponse)request.GetResponse(); string str = (new StreamReader(response.GetResponseStream()).ReadToEnd()); Console.WriteLine(response.StatusCode); return str; }

  • Memory leak when changing Text field of a Scintilla object.

    - by PlaZmaZ
    I have a relatively large program that I'm optimizing for ASCII input files around 10-80mB in size. The program reads every line of the file into a stringbuilder and then sets the Text field of the ScintillNET object to the stringbuilder. The stringbuilder is then set to null. private void ReloadFile(string sFile) { txt_log.ResetText(); try { StringBuilder sLine = new StringBuilder(""); using (StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(sFile)) { while (true) { string temp = sr.ReadLine(); if (temp == null) break; sLine.AppendLine(temp); } sr.Close(); } txt_log.Text = sLine.ToString(); sLine = null; } catch (Exception ex) { MessageBox.Show(this, "An error occurred opening this file.\n\n" + ex.Message, "File Open Error", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error); } GC.Collect(); } The program has an option to reload or open a file. This is irrelevant, as any call to txt_log.Text seems to not get rid of the previous memory used for the .Text field. Commenting out the txt_log.Text line gives proper memory behavior. The GC.Collect() line seems pointless, and I have tried both with and without it. Is there something I'm missing here? I HIGHLY doubt it's a problem with the ScintillaNET component itself--rather something in this code.

  • Passing Binary Data to a Stored Procedure in SQL Server 2008

    - by Joe Majewski
    I'm trying to figure out a way to store files in a database. I know it's recommended to store files on the file system rather than the database, but the job I'm working on would highly prefer using the database to store these images (files). There are also some constraints. I'm not an admin user, and I have to make stored procedures to execute all the commands. This hasn't been of much difficulty so far, but I cannot for the life of me establish a way to store a file (image) in the database. When I try to use the BULK command, I get an error saying "You do not have permission to use the bulk load statement." The bulk utility seemed like the easy way to upload files to the database, but without permissions I have to figure a work-a-round. I decided to use an HTML form with a file upload input type and handle it with PHP. The PHP calls the stored procedure and passes in the contents of the file. The problem is that now it's saying that the max length of a parameter can only be 128 characters. Now I'm completely stuck. I don't have permissions to use the bulk command and it appears that the max length of a parameter that I can pass to the SP is 128 characters. I expected to run into problems because binary characters and ascii characters don't mix well together, but I'm at a dead end... Thanks

  • pdfmark for docinfo metadata in pdf is not accepting accented characters in Keywords or Subject

    - by rpilkey
    I am inserting metadata into postscript files with a program, to be distilled to pdf with Adobe Distiller. I am using this code that I grabbed from Thomas Merz's "Web Publishing with Acrobat-PDF": /pdfmark where {pop} {userdict /pdfmark /cleartomark load put} ifelse [ /Title (mot accenté) /Author (mot accenté) /Subject (mot accenté) /Keywords (mot accenté) /DOCINFO pdfmark When you look at the metadata, the accented characters turn into "?" in the Subject and Keyword fields, but not the Title and Author fields. The characters are the same ascii 233 I tried replacing them with octal encoding (\351), which came out the same (Title and Author okay, Subject and Keywords messed up). file encoding is latin-1,unix eol I found a mention on adobe forums, but the answer didn't make sense to me. http://forums.adobe.com/message/1165593 I changed the encoding to utf-8, inserted the characters binarily (in VIM : <Ctrl-v>u00e9), no change. I tried inserting the BOM in a few places, it didn't work. This is with Acrobat Pro 9 I didn't notice this problem with Acrobat Pro 7. Does anybody know of a workaround to get the accented characters into ALL the metadata fields when modifying a postscript file, or tell me if I'm doing it wrong? It seems weird that different fields would not accept the same bytes.

  • Javascript problem with location.href.

    - by Patrick
    Hello! I have a textbox and whenever the user presses a key it's checked to see if the user pressed enter. If the enter key is pressed, i want to add all the info in the textbox and transfer the user to a different url. <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> function checkEnter(e){ //e is event object passed from function invocation var characterCode; if(e && e.which){ //if which property of event object is supported (NN4) e = e; characterCode = e.which; //character code is contained in NN4's which property } else{ e = event; characterCode = e.keyCode; //character code is contained in IE's keyCode property } if (characterCode == 13) { //if generated character code is equal to ascii 13 (if enter key) var searchLink = '/Search/?Keywords=' + document.getElementById('<%= searchBox.ClientID %>').value; transferUser(searchLink); return false; } else{ return true; } } function transferUser(url) { window.location.href = url; window.location.replace(url); } </script> Search: <input name="ctl00$searchBox" type="text" id="ctl00_searchBox" class="header_line_search_box_textbox" onKeyPress="checkEnter(event);" /> I have tried every possible combination, but nothing happens. The site just refreshes itself. I also need somehow to convert the text from the user to html safe, must like the HttpUtility.EncodeUrl in aspx.

Any Ideas, why this is failing?

  • Windows cmd encoding change causes Python crash.

    - by Alex
    First I chage Windows CMD encoding to utf-8 and run Python interpreter: chcp 65001 python Then I try to print a unicode sting inside it and when i do this Python crashes in a peculiar way (I just get a cmd prompt in the same window). >>> import sys >>> print u'ëèæîð'.encode(sys.stdin.encoding) Any ideas why it happens and how to make it work? UPD: sys.stdin.encoding returns 'cp65001' UPD2: It just came to me that the issue might be connected with the fact that utf-8 uses multi-byte character set (kcwu made a good point on that). I tried running the whole example with 'windows-1250' and got 'ëeaî?'. Windows-1250 uses single-character set so it worked for those characters it understands. However I still have no idea how to make 'utf-8' work here. UPD3: Oh, I found out it is a known Python bug. I guess what happens is that Python copies the cmd encoding as 'cp65001 to sys.stdin.encoding and tries to apply it to all the input. Since it fails to understand 'cp65001' it crushes on any input that contains non-ascii characters.

  • Socket.Recieve Failing When Multithreaded

    - by Qua
    The following piece of code runs fine when parallelized to 4-5 threads, but starts to fail as the number of threads increase somewhere beyond 10 concurrentthreads int totalRecieved = 0; int recieved; StringBuilder contentSB = new StringBuilder(4000); while ((recieved = socket.Receive(buffer, SocketFlags.None)) > 0) { contentSB.Append(Encoding.ASCII.GetString(buffer, 0, recieved)); totalRecieved += recieved; } The Recieve method returns with zero bytes read, and if I continue calling the recieve method then I eventually get a 'An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine'-exception. So I'm assuming that the host actually sent data and then closed the connection, but for some reason I never recieved it. I'm curious as to why this problem arises when there are a lot of threads. I'm thinking it must have something to do with the fact that each thread doesn't get as much execution time and therefore there are some idle time for the threads which causes this error. Just can't figure out why idle time would cause the socket not to recieve any data.

  • Why Illegal cookies are send by Browser and received by web servers (rfc2109)?

    - by Artyom
    Hello, According to RFC 2109 cookie's value can be either HTTP token or quoted string, and token can't include non-ASCII characters. Cookie's RFC 2109: http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2109#page-3 HTTP's RFC 2068 token definition: http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2068#page-16 However I had found that Firefox browser (3.0.6) sends cookies with utf-8 string as-is and three web servers I tested (apache2, lighttpd, nginx) pass this string as-is to the application. For example, raw request from browser: $ nc -l -p 8080 GET /hello HTTP/1.1 Host: localhost:8080 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.9) Gecko/2009050519 Firefox/2.0.0.13 (Debian-3.0.6-1) Accept: text/html,application/xhtml+xml,application/xml;q=0.9,*/*;q=0.8 Accept-Language: en-us,en;q=0.5 Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate Accept-Charset: windows-1255,utf-8;q=0.7,*;q=0.7 Keep-Alive: 300 Connection: keep-alive Cookie: wikipp=1234; wikipp_username=?????? Cache-Control: max-age=0 And raw response of apache, nginx and lighttpd HTTP_COOKIE CGI variable: wikipp=1234; wikipp_username=?????? What do I miss? Can somebody explain me?

  • Trying to use HttpWebRequest to load a page in a file.

    - by Malcolm
    Hi, I have a ASP.NET MVC app that works fine in the browser. I am using the following code to be able to write the html of a retrieved page to a file. (This is to use in a PDF conversion component) But this code errors out continually but not in the browser. I get timeout errors sometimes asn 500 errors. Public Function GetPage(ByVal url As String, ByVal filename As String) As Boolean Dim request As HttpWebRequest Dim username As String Dim password As String Dim docid As String Dim poststring As String Dim bytedata() As Byte Dim requestStream As Stream Try username = "pdfuser" password = "pdfuser" docid = "docid=inv12154" poststring = String.Format("username={0}&password={1}&{2}", username, password, docid) bytedata = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(poststring) request = WebRequest.Create(url) request.Method = "Post" request.ContentLength = bytedata.Length request.ContentType = "application/x-www-form-urlencoded" requestStream = request.GetRequestStream() requestStream.Write(bytedata, 0, bytedata.Length) requestStream.Close() request.Timeout = 60000 Dim response As HttpWebResponse Dim responseStream As Stream Dim reader As StreamReader Dim sb As New StringBuilder() Dim line As String = String.Empty response = request.GetResponse() responseStream = response.GetResponseStream() reader = New StreamReader(responseStream, System.Text.Encoding.ASCII) line = reader.ReadLine() While (Not line Is Nothing) sb.Append(line) line = reader.ReadLine() End While File.WriteAllText(filename, sb.ToString()) Catch ex As Exception MsgBox(ex.Message) End Try Return True End Function

  • GZipStream in an WebHttpResponse producing no data

    - by Pierre 303
    I want to compress my HTTP Responses for client that supports it. Here is the code used to send a standard response: IHttpClientContext context = (IHttpClientContext)sender; IHttpRequest request = e.Request; string responseBody = "This is some random text"; IHttpResponse response = request.CreateResponse(context); using (StreamWriter writer = new StreamWriter(response.Body)) { writer.WriteLine(responseBody); writer.Flush(); response.Send(); } The code above works fine. Now I added gzip support below. When I test it with a browser that supports gzip or a custom method, it returns an empty string. I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but I just can't find it... IHttpClientContext context = (IHttpClientContext)sender; IHttpRequest request = e.Request; string acceptEncoding = request.Headers["Accept-Encoding"]; string responseBody = "This is some random text"; IHttpResponse response = request.CreateResponse(context); if (acceptEncoding != null && acceptEncoding.Contains("gzip")) { byte[] bytes = ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetBytes(responseBody); response.AddHeader("Content-Encoding", "gzip"); using (GZipStream writer = new GZipStream(response.Body, CompressionMode.Compress)) { writer.Write(bytes, 0, bytes.Length); writer.Flush(); response.Send(); } } else { using (StreamWriter writer = new StreamWriter(response.Body)) { writer.WriteLine(responseBody); writer.Flush(); response.Send(); } }

  • Should I strip the XML declaration from suds output before parsing with lxml?

    - by mikl
    I’m trying to implement a SOAP webservice in Python 2.6 using the suds library. That is working well, but I’ve run into a problem when trying to parse the output with lxml. Suds returns a suds.sax.text.Text object with the reply from the SOAP service. The suds.sax.text.Text class is a subclass of the Python built-in Unicode class. In essence, it would be comparable with this Python statement: u'<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?><root><lotsofelements \></root>' Which is incongrous, since if the XML declaration is correct, the contents are UTF-8 encoded, and thus not a Python Unicode object (because those are stored in some internal encoding like UCS4). lxml will refuse to parse this, as documented, since there is no clear answer to what encoding it should be interpreted as. As I see it, there are two ways out of this bind: Strip the <?xml> declaration, including the encoding. Convert the output from Suds into a bytestring, using the specified encoding. Currently, the data I’m receiving from the webservice is within the ASCII-range, so either way will work, but both feels very much like ugly hacks to me, and I’m not quite sure what would happen, if I start to receive data that would need a wider range of Unicode characters. Any good ideas? I can’t imagine I’m the first one in this position…

  • web service client authentication

    - by Jack
    I want to consume Java based web service with c#.net client. The problem is, I couldnt authenticate to the service. it didnt work with this: mywebservice.Credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential(userid, userpass); I tried to write base class for my client method. public class ClientProtocols : SoapHttpClientProtocol { protected override WebRequest GetWebRequest(Uri uri) { System.Net.WebRequest request = base.GetWebRequest(uri); if (null != Credentials) request.Headers.Add("Authorization", GetAuthHeader()); return request; } protected override WebResponse GetWebResponse(WebRequest request) { WebResponse response = base.GetWebResponse(request); return response; } private string GetAuthHeader() { StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); sb.Append("Basic "); NetworkCredential cred = Credentials.GetCredential(new Uri(Url), "Basic"); string s = string.Format("{0}:{1}", cred.UserName, cred.Password); sb.Append(Convert.ToBase64String(Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(s))); return sb.ToString(); } } How can I use this class and authorize to the web service? Thanks.
