  My audio clips sound perfect when I upload them to the iPhone via iTunes. And I am pretty sure it is because the iPod has a maximum playback level, so the audio doesn't sound overdriven. In my app, I include the same audio files, and when I play them [myAudio play]; the levels are so high that the audio becomes indiscernible. I found in the library http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/documentation/AVFoundation/Reference/AVAudioPlayerClassReference/Reference/Reference.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/TP40008067-CH1-SW2 that it says that you can "Control relative playback level for each sound you are playing" but I've been searching this issue out for hours and I haven't gotten anywhere. Any help would be wonderful!

  Hi, I've been reading on the django docs about the comments framework and how to customize it (http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.1/ref/contrib/comments/custom/) In that page, it shows how to add new fields to a form. But what I want to do is to remove unnecesary fields, like URL, email (amongst other minor mods.) On that same doc page it says the way to go is to extend my custom comments class from BaseCommentAbstractModel, but that's pretty much it, I've come so far and now I'm at a loss. I couldn't find anything on this specific aspect.

  I am trying to unlock a file from a C# program, using unlocker. In my UI, I put a button to unlock the file the app couldn't delete. When the user pushes the button, I want unlocker (the famous app) to be opened. I have read about in the Unlocker web, and there is some explanations about the commandline to use but nothing works. I write the following code but nothing happens: "c:\Program Files\unlocker\unlocker.exe" -L "PATHFORTHEFILE.doc" Nothing happens. I have tried without parameters and with -LU. Any idea? Something more efficient than unlocker to integrate it with software?

• Nginx 500 Internal Server error on subdirectory

  I'm getting a 500 Internal Server error only on sub directories. For example, If my website is example.com, example.com/index.php works. But example.com/phpbb/index.php doesn't work. It just turns up a blank php page. The HTTP header shows HTTP error 500 Internal Server error. If I enter example.com/phpbb/index.php/somedirectory, the index.php of my root directory shows up. This is all very strange. I have tried searching etc but nothing worked. tried re-installing nginx but not fixed. I'm sure I got the DNS configured right.   Hi, Every the example I find on the internet (including Apple doc) sets the target to self like this : [NSThread detachNewThreadSelector:@selector(threadedTask) toTarget:self withObject:nil]; Since i would like to do a more complex task in background (involving multiple methods), I thought of creating a class Task called like this : Task *task = [[Task alloc] init]; [NSThread detachNewThreadSelector:@selector(main) toTarget:task withObject:nil]; but I wonder, how will be handled the instance variables of my class Task ? in my method main can I safely call methods of my class Task using [self myMethod] and modifying members variables assuming I'm the only thread accessing it ? This way of handling threads seems weird to me, sorry if my question is stupid ^^ Thanks in advance

• Xcode / Interface Builder - better workflow from designer to coder?

  Were dealing with some pretty custom UI elements while building our OSX / Cocoa and iPhone / IPad apps. I was wondering if anyone has good recommendations or tricks for getting a better workflow between UI designers and coders while using Xcode / Interface Builder? It seems that many things require programmatic settings with UI editing in Cocoa... if you stray from the pre-built UI elements then you can't really easily drag-drop build a UI... instead we end up handing off a design doc ( photoshop/illustrator ) and then the poor developer has to deal with recreating this masterpiece in code or by using interface builder - usually a combination of both. This work flow is leading us to not so great results and we have to re-iterate around the UI elements to get them to work better. We love CSS and / or Flash designer to developer workflow where the UI could look exactly as it should and the hand off to developer was more seamless. Is there anyone out there who has some tricks - or insights into getting better workflow when using tools like Xcode / Interface Builder and doing Cocoa apps?

• Code completion in NetBeans' python plugin does not work properly

  I am asking on StackOverflow because surely I am doing something completely silly and I hope S.O. might provide me with a quick answer. I've installed the latest stable Python-plugin for NetBeans. It works great, and I tested code completion with various packages such as sys, os and so on. It works beautifully. However, it does not seem to pick up the code completion for the code in my own project. I created a package called mypackage (it has _init_.py as well), and in it I have a module called mymodule.py. Inside mymodule I've put a class called MyClass, complete with doc-strings and all. Please refer to this screenshot to describe what happens in code-completion: As you see, it's suggesting irrelevant things, as opposed to just MyClass. (Note that if I execute mymodule.MyClass() it works 100%, it's just that I would really like code completion on my own code) Hope I'm just doing something silly here... Any ideas?

• Casting a primitive int to a Number

  Let's say that I have the following: int a = 2; Number b = (Number) a; System.out.println(b); // Prints 2 http://java.sun.com/docs/books/jls/first_edition/html/15.doc.html#238146 says that a primitive value may not be cast to a reference type. Does Java know to create an Integer from the primitive int and then cast to the superclass? How exactly does Java handle this behind the scenes? Thanks!

• A reasonable way to add attributes to an xml root element.

  The function "WriteStartElement" does not return anything. I find this a little bizzare. So up until now I have been doing it like this. Does anybody know the correct way of doing this because I'm pretty sure what I'm doing isn't right. I tried to use xmlWriter.AppendChild() but it doesnt seem to write out anything. :(

My code is: class LuaState { boost::shared_ptr<lua_State> L; LuaState(): L( luaL_newstate(), LuaState::CustomDeleter ) { } } The problem is lua_State is incomplete type and shared_ptr constructor requires complete type. And I need safe pointer sharing. (Funny thing boost docs say most functions do not require complete type, but constructor requires, so there is no way of using it. http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_42_0/libs/smart_ptr/smart_ptr.htm) Can can I solve this?   This batch file releases a build from TEST to LIVE. I want to add a check constraint in this file that ensures there is an accomanying release document in a specific folder. There is a version.txt file in the \testserver\testapp$ folder and the only contents of this file is the build number (eg 45 - for build 45) How do I read the contents of the version.txt file into a variable in the batch file? How do I check if a file \fileserver\myapp\releasedocs\ {build}.doc exists using the variable from part 1 in place of {build}?

  Hi i just put up a validation function in jScript to validate filename in fileupload control[input type file]. The function seems to work fine in FF and sometimes in ie but never in Chrome. Basically the function tests if File name is atleast 1 char upto 25 characters long.Contains only valid characters,numbers [no spaces] and are of file types in the list.   I'm currently taking on a new project at home. In this project I'm going to be generating HTML emails. For this purpose, I believe XSL to be a good candidate. However, I have heard people say that XSL is a dead language, and if it's not that it is on it's way out. In fact, MS has been very leary to support XSL 2.0. Personally I feel that any time you are going from text to text, it is a great tool. Such as: Generating HTML e-mails Creating Open Office Docs Generating another XML doc What are your thoughts? Is it dead, or is it still a viable, usefull tool?

• Include Files using Wildcard into a folder in Visual Studio

  I am using <ItemGroup> <EmbeddedResource Include="..\..\resources\hbm\*.hbm.xml" /> </ItemGroup> to include a bunch of xml files into my C# project. Works fine. But, I don't want them in the "root level" of my project, I would rather see them in a subfolder in my project. For example, this file is included into a Mapping folder in Visual Studio: <ItemGroup> <EmbeddedResource Include="Mapping\User.hbm.xml" /> </ItemGroup> That's what I want for my *.hbm.xml files. I can't figure out how to do it and still keep my wildcard *.hbm.xml part and also keep the actual files in a different directory. I've looked at MSDN's doc on MSBUILD and items, but no luck.

• What adapter to use for ExpandableListView with non-TextView views?

  I have an ExpandableListView in which I'd like to have controls other than TextView. Apparently, SimpleExandableListViewAdapter assumes all the controls are TextViews. A cast exception is generated if they are not. What is the recommended solution? Options I can think of include: - Use some other included adapter. But I can't tell if they all have the same assumption. - Create my own adapter. Is there a doc which describes the contract, ie the sequence of method calls an adapter will encounter? I expected the existing adapters to require the views to conform to some interface to allow any conforming view to be used, rather than hardcode to textview and limit where they can be used.

  Hey there folks, Here is one that is throwing me for a loop. I am trying to set a simple cookie that has one name:value pair on IE8. Tested on FF and it works fine. IE8 keeps blocking it.   So I have a DOM document that looks essentially like this <categories> <category id="1"/> <category id="2"/> </categories> This is how the document previews in Firebug, as I would expect. However, when I POST this to the server, I get <categories> <CATEGORY id="1"/> <CATEGORY id="2"/> </categories> Indeed, doc.documentElement.firstChild.nodeName returns "CATEGORY". The nodes are added using jQuery.append('<category/>'). Why are the child tags returned in all caps?
