  • SQLDependency thread

    - by user171523
    i am in the process implementing SQLdepenency i would like to know in case of Dependency Handler exeuctues will it spun a different thred from main Process ? What will happen when the event handler triggers? Do i need to worry about any multithreds issues? public void CreateSqlDependency() { try { using (SqlConnection connection = (SqlConnection)DBFactory.GetDBFactoryConnection(Constants.SQL_PROVIDER_NAME)) { SqlCommand command = (SqlCommand)DBFactory.GetCommand(Constants.SQL_PROVIDER_NAME); command.CommandText = watchQuery; command.CommandType = CommandType.Text; SqlDependency dependency = new SqlDependency(command); //Create the callback object dependency.OnChange += new OnChangeEventHandler(this.QueueChangeNotificationHandler); SqlDependency.Start(connectionString); DataTable dataTable = DBFactory.ExecuteSPReDT(command); } } catch (SqlException sqlExp) { throw sqlExp; } catch (Exception ex) { throw ex; } } public void QueueChangeNotificationHandler(object caller, SqlNotificationEventArgs e) { if(e.Info == SqlNotificationInfo.Insert) Fire(); }

  • Android Service Multiple Thread Design

    - by Gernot
    Hello, A new question about android and services. Currently I'm developing a App that should send images to a server. It should also be possible to send more images parallel. I made a service that creates for every image a new image. The activity can bind to that service and gather information about the progress. I want to show the current status for every image in a notification (and when the user clicks a notification, an activity with the progress for that image should be shown). But I get several problems with that approach. There are errors with binding, the notification pending event starts the activity completly new, so I lose information about currently sending images and so on. Can someone plase tell me, how I could design such a problem in a appropriate way. thx

  • How can I make a Jeditable (jQuery) span activate editing on more than one event?

    - by JonathanHayward
    For the jQuery extension Jeditable, one of the parameters that can be specified is which DOM event will turn a div/span/... into a text input/textarea/... I would like to have more than one event serve as a trigger; that is, I would like either a click event or a contextmenu event to turn a span into an in-place edit area. Is there a graceful way to do this without forking Jeditable? --edit-- An example of code specifying the event is below. The parameter is optional, defaulting to a regular click. $(".edit_rightclick").editable("/ajax/save", { cancel: "Cancel", submit: "OK", tooltip: "Right click to edit.", event: "contextmenu", }); Calling twice, once for the regular click event with the event unspecified, and one for the contextmenu event (right-click if there are no switched mouse buttons or anything like that) does not seem to produce the intended effect of an element becoming editable in place on a click from either mouse button.

  • How can I retrieve the value of a PASTE (copy-pasta) event in a GWT TextBox?

    - by dominicbri7
    Hello fellow SO members, I want to prevent the user from copy-pasting values in my TextBox IF AND ONLY IF the values do not respect a certain condition. For instance, I created a DigitsOnlyTextBox which will be used for phone numbers. I already made it so only Character.isDigit characters can be typed into the box, and the user cannot copy-paste values into it, using : this.sinkEvents(Event.ONPASTE); and public void onBrowserEvent(Event event) { super.onBrowserEvent(event); // Permet d'empêcher le copier-coller, donc d'entrer des caractères non-numériques if (event.getTypeInt() == Event.ONPASTE) { event.stopPropagation(); event.preventDefault(); } } But I'd like to verify if the copy-pasted String is "digits only" and if so, let the event happen (therefore the text added). tl;dr : see title Thank you for your time. Sincerely.

  • What is the probable failure - no BSOD, no event log, monitors sleeping, force reboot required

    - by Tyler
    Every 3 to 15 days, my PC freezes. This typically happens when the computer is idle, I'm coming home from work, back from vacation, etc. It's never happened while using my computer. The monitors are in power save mode The Caps Lock light on the (wireless) keyboard doesn't work Ctrl-alt-del has no effect, mouse (wireless) has no effect The hardware reset button and single press of power putton have no effect Computer does not appear on the network No BSOD, no memory dump Event logs have no errors or indications of problems near the time of crash. Only messages after reboot indicating that there was a reboot without a clean shutdown. Windows is set to never put the computer to sleep (just the display) Here are the vital stats of the build: OS Windows 8 Pro 64-bit CPU Intel i5-2400 Mobo Intel BOXDP67DE Micro ATX GPU MSI N460GTX Cyclone768D5/OC RAM CORSAIR XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) CMX8GX3M2A1333C9 PSU SeaSonic X Series X650 Gold System Drive Samsung 840 Pro 256 GB SSD Data Drive 2 x Western Digital WD20EARS 2TB in hardware RAID 1 Optical Lite-On DVD burner IHAS424-98 And here is the story of how the problem developed and what I've done to diagnose: January 2011, system built with Windows 7 64-bit, runs great. March 2011, Intel replaced the mobo because of the bad sata controllers. October 2012, upgrade to Windows 8 (problems start shortly after). January 2013, system freezes and causes network to fail for the whole house. Unplug the network cable and other devices and PCs can use the internet. Plug it back in, internet goes away for everyone. Reboot and everything is fine. March 2013, install Intel Gigabit CT PCI-E NIC, disable mobo nic in bios. Network strangeness goes away. Freezes are less frequent. Memtest shows no problems (20 passes). Early June 2013, replace Antec PSU with SeaSonic PSU. Mid June 2013, replace OCZ Vertex 2 SSD with Samsung SSD. Late June 2013, get frustrated and hope the community has some good ideas (I'm running out of budget to replace parts). My next plan of attack is setting "Turn off display" to Never and using a screen saver to see how that reacts on the next freeze. It makes me sad to waste power for up to 15 days though. Has anyone out there seen a problem like this? Any ideas on what kind of malfunction would act this way? Ideas of other diagnostic steps to take?

  • Thread-safe data structures

    - by Inso Reiges
    Hello, I have to design a data structure that is to be used in a multi-threaded environment. The basic API is simple: insert element, remove element, retrieve element, check that element exists. The structure's implementation uses implicit locking to guarantee the atomicity of a single API call. After i implemented this it became apparent, that what i really need is atomicity across several API calls. For example if a caller needs to check the existence of an element before trying to insert it he can't do that atomically even if each single API call is atomic: if(!data_structure.exists(element)) { data_structure.insert(element); } The example is somewhat awkward, but the basic point is that we can't trust the result of exists call anymore after we return from atomic context (the generated assembly clearly shows a minor chance of context switch between the two calls). What i currently have in mind to solve this is exposing the lock through the data structure's public API. This way clients will have to explicitly lock things, but at least they won't have to create their own locks. Is there a better commonly-known solution to these kinds of problems? And as long as we're at it, can you advise some good literature on thread-safe design? Thank you.

  • BitmapFrame in another thread

    - by Lasse Lindström
    Hi I am using a WPF BackgroundWorker to create thumbnails. My worker function looks like: private void work(object sender, DoWorkEventArgs e) { try { var paths = e.Argument as string[]; var boxList = new List(); foreach (string path in paths) { if (!string.IsNullOrEmpty(path)) { FileInfo info = new FileInfo(path); if (info.Exists && info.Length 0) { BitmapImage bi = new BitmapImage(); bi.BeginInit(); bi.DecodePixelWidth = 200; bi.CacheOption = BitmapCacheOption.OnLoad; bi.UriSource = new Uri(info.FullName); bi.EndInit(); var item = new BoxItem(); item.FilePath = path; MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream(); PngBitmapEncoder encoder = new PngBitmapEncoder(); encoder.Frames.Add(BitmapFrame.Create(bi)); encoder.Save(ms); item.ThumbNail = ms.ToArray(); ms.Close(); boxList.Add(item); } } } e.Result = boxList; } catch (Exception ex) { //nerver comes here } } When this fuction is finnished and before the BackgroundWorker "Completed" function is started, I can see on the output window on Vs2008, that a exception is generated. It looks like: A first chance exception of type 'System.NotSupportedException' occurred in PresentationCore.dll The number of exceptions generates equals the number of thumbnails to be generated. Using "trial and error" I have isolated the problem to: BitmapFrame.Create(bi) Removing that line (makes my function useless) also removes the exception. I have not found any explanation to this,,, or a better method to create thumbnails i a background thread. Can anyone help me? //lasse

  • Thread Message Loop Hangs in Delphi

    - by erikjw
    Hello all. I have a simple Delphi program that I'm working on, in which I am attempting to use threading to separate the functionality of the program from its GUI, and to keep the GUI responsive during more lengthy tasks, etc. Basically, I have a 'controller' TThread, and a 'view' TForm. The view knows the controller's handle, which it uses to send the controller messages via PostThreadMessage. I have had no problem in the past using this sort of model for forms which are not the main form, but for some reason, when I attempt to use this model for the main form, the message loop of the thread just quits. Here is my code for the threads message loop: procedure TController.Execute; var Msg : TMsg; begin while not Terminated do begin if (Integer(GetMessage(Msg, hwnd(0), 0, 0)) = -1) then begin Synchronize(Terminate); end; TranslateMessage(Msg); DispatchMessage(Msg); case Msg.message of // ...call different methods based on message end; end; To set up the controller, I do this: Controller := TController.Create(true); // Create suspended Controller.FreeOnTerminate := True; Controller.Resume; For processing the main form's messages, I have tried using both Application.Run and the following loop (immediately after Controller.Resume) while not Application.Terminated do begin Application.ProcessMessages; end; I've run stuck here - any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Java: Exception in thread main java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError

Program will exit. I came across this link where someone had the same issue: http://trac.red5.org/ticket/762 It looks like they ran this command: export CLASSPATH=3D$RED5_HOME/lib/slf4j-api-1.5.10.jar:$RED5_HOME/lib/logback- core-0.9.18.jar:$RED5_HOME/lib/logback-classic-0.9.18.jar I have red5 installed in /usr/share/red5, so I ran this: export CLASSPATH=3D$/usr/share/red5/lib/slf4j-api-1.5.10.jar:$/usr/share/red5/lib/logback-core-0.9.18.jar:$/usr/share/red5/lib/logback-classic-0.9.18.jar Yet despite all this I am still seeing the same error message.

  • My Thread Programs Block

    - by user315378
    I wrote a program that worked as a server. Knowing that "accept" was blocking the program. I wanted to launch a thread with this statement to prevent precisely that the program crashes, but this still happens. Can anybody help? Post code Thanks -(IBAction)Connetti{ if(switchConnessione.on){ int port = [fieldPort.text intValue]; labelStatus.text = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"Il Server è attivo"]; server_len = sizeof(server); server.sin_family = AF_INET; server.sin_port = htons((u_short)port); server.sin_addr.s_addr = INADDR_ANY; sd = socket (AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, 0); bind(sd, (struct sockaddr*)&server, sizeof(server)); listen(sd, 1); [NSThread detachNewThreadSelector:@selector(startThreadAccept) toTarget:self withObject:nil]; } else { labelStatus.text = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"Server non attivo"]; switchChat.on = FALSE; switchChat.enabled = FALSE; } } -(void)startThreadAccept{ NSAutoreleasePool *pool = [[NSAutoreleasePool alloc]init]; [self performSelectorOnMainThread:@selector(acceptConnection) withObject:nil waitUntilDone:NO]; [pool release]; } -(void)acceptConnection{ new_sd = accept(sd, (struct sockaddr*)&server, &server_len); labelStatus.text = [[NSString alloc] initWithFormat:@"Ho accettato una connessione:%d", new_sd]; switchChat.enabled = TRUE; }

  • Thread safe lazy contruction of a singleton in C++

    - by pauldoo
    Is there a way to implement a singleton object in C++ that is: Lazily constructed in a thread safe manner (two threads might simultaneously be the first user of the singleton - it should still only be constructed once). Doesn't rely on static variables being constructed beforehand (so the singleton object is itself safe to use during the construction of static variables). (I don't know my C++ well enough, but is it the case that integral and constant static variables are initialized before any code is executed (ie, even before static constructors are executed - their values may already be "initialized" in the program image)? If so - perhaps this can be exploited to implement a singleton mutex - which can in turn be used to guard the creation of the real singleton..) Excellent, it seems that I have a couple of good answers now (shame I can't mark 2 or 3 as being the answer). There appears to be two broad solutions: Use static initialisation (as opposed to dynamic initialisation) of a POD static varible, and implementing my own mutex with that using the builtin atomic instructions. This was the type of solution I was hinting at in my question, and I believe I knew already. Use some other library function like pthread_once or boost::call_once. These I certainly didn't know about - and am very grateful for the answers posted.

  • How to mult-thread this?

    - by WilliamKF
    I wish to have two threads. The first thread1 occasionally calls the following pseudo function: void waitForThread2() { if (thread2 is not idle) { return; } notifyThread2IamReady(); while (thread2IsExclusive) { } } The second thread2 is forever in the following pseudo loop: for (;;) { Notify thread1 I am idle. while (!thread1IsReady()) { } Notify thread1 I am exclusive. Do some work while thread1 is blocked. Notify thread1 I am busy. Do some work in parallel with thread1. } What is the best way to write this such that both thread1 and thread2 are kept as busy as possible on a machine with multiple cores. I would like to avoid long delays between notification in one thread and detection by the other. I tried using pthread condition variables but found the delay between thread2 doing 'notify thread1 I am busy' and the loop in waitForThread2() on thear2IsExclusive() can be up to almost one second delay. I then tried using a volatile sig_atomic_t shared variable to control the same, but something is going wrong, so I must not be doing it correctly.

  • Thread-safe initialization of function-local static const objects

    - by sbi
    This question made me question a practice I had been following for years. For thread-safe initialization of function-local static const objects I protect the actual construction of the object, but not the initialization of the function-local reference referring to it. Something like this: namspace { const some_type& create_const_thingy() { lock my_lock(some_mutex); static const some_type the_const_thingy; return the_const_thingy; } } void use_const_thingy() { static const some_type& the_const_thingy = create_const_thingy(); // use the_const_thingy } The idea is that locking takes time, and if the reference is overwritten by several threads, it won't matter. I'd be interested if this is safe enough in practice? safe according to The Rules? (I know, the current standard doesn't even know what "concurrency" is, but what about trampling over an already initialized reference? And do other standards, like POSIX, have something to say that's relevant to this?) For the inquiring minds: Many such function-local static const objects I used are maps which are initialized from const arrays upon first use and used for lookup. For example, I have a few XML parsers where tag name strings are mapped to enum values, so I could later switch over the tags enum values.

  • C# Process Binary File, Multi-Thread Processing

    - by washtik
    I have the following code that processes a binary file. I want to split the processing workload by using threads and assigning each line of the binary file to threads in the ThreadPool. Processing time for each line is only small but when dealing with files that might contain hundreds of lines, it makes sense to split the workload. My question is regarding the BinaryReader and thread safety. First of all, is what I am doing below acceptable. I have a feeling it would be better to pass only the binary for each line to the PROCESS_Binary_Return_lineData method. Please note the code below is conceptual. I looking for a but of guidance on this as my knowledge of multi-threading is in its infancy. Perhaps there is a better way to achieve the same result, i.e. split processing of each binary line. var dic = new Dictionary<DateTime, Data>(); var resetEvent = new ManualResetEvent(false); using (var b = new BinaryReader(File.Open(Constants.dataFile, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.Read))) { var lByte = b.BaseStream.Length; var toProcess = 0; while (lByte >= DATALENGTH) { b.BaseStream.Position = lByte; lByte = lByte - AB_DATALENGTH; ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(delegate { Interlocked.Increment(ref toProcess); var lineData = PROCESS_Binary_Return_lineData(b); lock(dic) { if (!dic.ContainsKey(lineData.DateTime)) { dic.Add(lineData.DateTime, lineData); } } if (Interlocked.Decrement(ref toProcess) == 0) resetEvent.Set(); }, null); } } resetEvent.WaitOne();

How can a caller be protected to safely use this pointer\reference after the call returns? If you think that not returning copies is a problem, then think about deep copies, i.e. objects that should also copy another objects they point to internally. Thank you.

  • Two column layout, navigation div on the right, solution from previous thread didn't seem to work

    - by Tom
    I tried the solution from this thread, but I must be missing something because it doesn't work: <div style="float:left;margin-right:200px"> <p>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat. Excepteur sint occaecat cupidatat non proident, sunt in culpa qui officia deserunt mollit anim id est laborum.</p> </div> <div style="float:right;width:200px"> <p>navigation</p> </div> It works when the text in the content div (the left one) is short, but when it's long then the div takes up the whole width of the browser and the margin is there, but the right div is pushed below the first one nevertheless. What am I missing? Edit: The goal is to have a fix sized navigation column on the right of the browser window and the left div should get all the space left by the right navigation column (liquid layout).

  • Calling into a saved java object via JNI from a different thread

    - by Drake Amara
    I have a java object which calls into a C++ shared object via JNI. In C++, I am saving a reference to the JNIEnv and jObject. JavaVM * jvm; JNIEnv * myEnv; jobject myobj; JNIEXPORT void JNICALL Java_org_api_init (JNIEnv *env, jobject jObj) { myEnv = env; myobj = jObj; } I also have a GLSurface renderer and it eventually calls the C++ shared object mentioned above on a different thread, the GLThread. I am then trying to call back into my original Java object using the jobject I saved initially, but I think because I am on the GLThread, I get the following error. • Reload images in a UIWebView after they have been downloaded by a background thread

    - by dantastic
    I have an application that frequently checks in with a server and downloads a batch of articles to the iphone. The articles are in html and just stored using core data. An article has 0-n images on the page. Downloading all associated images at the same time as the text will be too slow and take too much bandwidth. Users are not likely to open every article. If they open an article once it is likely they will open it several times. So I want to download and store the images locally when they are needed. These articles are listed in a UITableView. When you tap an article you pop open a UIWebView that displays the article. I have a function that checks if I have downloaded the images associated with the article already. If I have I just pop open the the UIWebView - everything works fine. If I don't have the images downloaded I go off and download them and store them to my Documents directory. Although this i working, the app is hanging while the images are downloading. Not very tidy. I want the article to open in a snap and download the images with the article open. So what I've done is I check if the images are downloaded, if they aren't I go ahead and just "touch" the files I need and load the webview. The UIWebView opens up but the images referenced contain no data. Then in a background thread I download the images and overwrite the "dummy" ones. This will save the images and everything but it won't reload the images in my current UIWebView. I have to go back out of the article back back in again to see the images. Are there any ways around this? reloading just an image in a UIWebView?

  • "Thread was being aborted" 0n large dataset

    - by Donaldinio
    I am trying to process 114,000 rows in a dataset (populated from an oracle database). I am hitting an error at around the 600 mark - "Thread was being aborted". All I am doing is reading the dataset, and I still hit the issue. Is this too much data for a dataset? It seems to load into the dataset ok though. I welcome any better ways to process this amount of data. rootTermsTable = entKw.GetRootKeywordsByCategory(catID); for (int k = 0; k < rootTermsTable.Rows.Count; k++) { string keywordID = rootTermsTable.Rows[k]["IK_DBKEY"].ToString(); ... } public DataTable GetKeywordsByCategory(string categoryID) { DbProviderFactory provider = DbProviderFactories.GetFactory(connectionProvider); DbConnection con = provider.CreateConnection(); con.ConnectionString = connectionString; DbCommand com = provider.CreateCommand(); com.Connection = con; com.CommandText = string.Format("Select * From icm_keyword WHERE (IK_IC_DBKEY = {0})",categoryID); com.CommandType = CommandType.Text; DataSet ds = new DataSet(); DbDataAdapter ad = provider.CreateDataAdapter(); ad.SelectCommand = com; con.Open(); ad.Fill(ds); con.Close(); DataTable dt = new DataTable(); dt = ds.Tables[0]; return dt; //return ds.Tables[0].DefaultView; }

  • Writing a synchronized thread-safety wrapper for NavigableMap

    - by polygenelubricants
    java.util.Collections currently provide the following utility methods for creating synchronized wrapper for various collection interfaces: synchronizedCollection(Collection<T> c) synchronizedList(List<T> list) synchronizedMap(Map<K,V> m) synchronizedSet(Set<T> s) synchronizedSortedMap(SortedMap<K,V> m) synchronizedSortedSet(SortedSet<T> s) Analogously, it also has 6 unmodifiedXXX overloads. The glaring omission here are the utility methods for NavigableMap<K,V>. It's true that it extends SortedMap, but so does SortedSet extends Set, and Set extends Collection, and Collections have dedicated utility methods for SortedSet and Set. Presumably NavigableMap is a useful abstraction, or else it wouldn't have been there in the first place, and yet there are no utility methods for it. So the questions are: Is there a specific reason why Collections doesn't provide utility methods for NavigableMap? How would you write your own synchronized wrapper for NavigableMap? Glancing at the source code for OpenJDK version of Collections.java seems to suggest that this is just a "mechanical" process Is it true that in general you can add synchronized thread-safetiness feature like this? If it's such a mechanical process, can it be automated? (Eclipse plug-in, etc) Is this code repetition necessary, or could it have been avoided by a different OOP design pattern?

  • StructureMap Configuration Per Thread/Request for the Full Dependency Chain

    - by Phil Sandler
    I've been using Structuremap for a few months now, and it has worked great on some smaller (green field) projects. Most of the configurations I have had to set up involve a single implementation per interface. In the cases where I needed to choose a specific implementation at runtime, I created a factory class that used ObjectFactory.GetNamedInstance<(). In the smaller projects, there were few enough of these cases where I was comfortable with the references to ObjectFactory. My understanding is that you want to limit these references as much as possible, and ideally only reference the ObjectFactory once. I am working to refactor a larger codebase to use IOC/StructureMap, and am finding that I may need many of these factory classes with ObjectFactory references to get what I need. Essentially, I am creating a "root service" with the ObjectFactory, so that everything in the dependency chain is managed by the container. The root service is created by name (i.e. "BuildCar", "BuildTruck"), and the services needed deeper in the dependency chain could also be constructed using the same name--so the "IAttachWheels" service could vary based on whether a car or truck is being built. Since the class that depends on IAttachWheels is the same in both configurations, I don't think I can use ConstructedBy in the registry to choose the implementation. Also, to be clear, the IAttachWheels implementations need to be managed by the container as well, because the dependency chain runs fairly deep. I looked briefly at Profiles as an option, but read (here on StackOverflow) that changing profiles essentially changes implementations for all threads. Is there a feature that is similar to profiles that is thread/request specific? Is the factory class that references ObjectFactory approach the right way to go? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  • Thread-Safe lazy instantiating using MEF

    - by Xaqron
    // Member Variable private static readonly object _syncLock = new object(); // Now inside a static method foreach (var lazyObject in plugins) { if ((string)lazyObject.Metadata["key"] = "something") { lock (_syncLock) { // It seems the `IsValueCreated` is not up-to-date if (!lazyObject.IsValueCreated) lazyObject.value.DoSomething(); } return lazyObject.value; } } Here I need synchronized access per loop. There are many threads iterating this loop and based on the key they are looking for, a lazy instance is created and returned. lazyObject should not be created more that one time. Although Lazy class is for doing so and despite of the used lock, under high threading I have more than one instance created (I track this with a Interlocked.Increment on a volatile static int and log it somewhere). The problem is I don't have access to definition of Lazy and MEF defines how the Lazy class create objects. I should notice the CompositionContainer has a thread-safe option in constructor which is already used. My questions: 1) Why the lock doesn't work ? 2) Should I use an array of locks instead of one lock for performance improvement ?

  • How to multi-thread this?

  • How to show and update popup in 1 thread

    - by user3713986
    I have 1 app. 2 Forms are MainFrm and PopupFrm, 1 thread to update some information to PopupFrm Now to update PopupFrm i use: In MainFrm.cs private PopupFrm mypop; MainFrm() { .... PopupFrm mypop= new PopupFrm(); mypop.Show(); } MyThread() { Process GetData();... mypop.Update(); ... } In PopupFrm.cs public void Update() { this.Invoke((MethodInvoker)delegate .... }); } Problem here that mypopup alway display when MainFrm display (Start application not when has data to update). So i change MainFrm.cs to : private PopupFrm mypop; private bool firstdisplay=false; MainFrm() { .... PopupFrm mypop= new PopupFrm(); //mypop.Show(); } MyThread() { Process GetData();... if(!firstdisplay) { mypop.Show(); firstdisplay=true; } mypop.Update(); ... } But it can not update Popup GUI. So how can i fix this issue ? Thanks all.
