• Does an SMTP request contain host header information (or just the IP of the targeted SMTP server)?

  We are using an external commercial smtp server for our newsletters (sending them through .NET components), and they offer two smtp URLs - smtp.critsend.com and fast.critsend.com -, and the second one is reserved for sending singular emails, the first one for bulk. Using nslookup shows that both resolve to the same 4 IP addresses (fast.critsend.com being an Alias). Question: (how) is it possible for the smtp relay to distinguish between different names? Is there something in the headers that can be compared to host headers in http protocol (I didn't find any intelligible information for a non-sysadmins)? The reason I'm asking is because we would like to use one of the IPs in our newsletter script (which works) rather than a name (in order to save DNS requests), and we are wondering about potential problems.

  I am hosting a Wordpress blog, and having a strange problem. When I connect to the server (http://71.65.199.125/ at the time of this writing) it displays the Title correctly, and half of a download bar, indicating it has received some of the page, then it hangs for exactly 150 seconds (timed it twice), then it sends the rest of the page, but without the stylesheet. after that it hangs indefinitely, continuing to say "connecting..." without making any progress. If you have any clues as to what might be happening, or how I could print debug logs of PHP or something to see what it is looking for during that hang time that would probably help. recent changed I have made: switched wordpress themes, however I did see it work once with the new theme. moved the server to another building, with an identical ISP, and linksys router forwarding setup. I have also added a favicon.gif file to /var/www but without linking to it from any of the wordpress pages. I have also had a unanticipated power interruption. System info: Ubuntu debian 9.04 Apache2 PHP 5 Wordpress 2.9.2 Thank you

  Is it possible for MacOS X (current version or in any previous one) to easily force DHCP client to send to DHCP server, at the beggining of the conversation - in DHCPDISCOVER packet - option "Vendor Class Identifier" (60) set to some value? I know that I can install i.e. ISC DHCP client through pkgsrc which supports VCI, but I'm looking for something native. Thank you in advance for information.

The question is, how do I do whatever the AirPort Basestation will do? All I can find so far is that supposedly I need to send something with Wireless Multimedia Extensions (WMM): Basically, I want to be able to wake up my Mac Mini remotely, probably using my Linux laptop. Does anyone know of a tool to do this? Basic Wake on LAN tools do not seem to be the right thing. I don't need the Sleep Proxy Service bit, because I already know the MAC address of the system I want to wake up.

  I need to be able to send the local IP address of a computer along with the headers when making requests to a website. Similar to the way you can get the _SERVER["REMOTE_ADDR"] in php, but the local ip (e.g. 192.168.100.1) This will be an intranet so the environment can be controlled. Anything can be installed on the computer, etc. This will be on a Mac OS X computer. Hoping for both Safari AND Firefox. But would be open to using one one. Does anyone know if this is possible?   I have this IIS7.5 with ARR installed and configured to reverse proxy to another server which is running IIS7. On that IIS7.5 I have applications and simple websites installed. Since configuring a farm, the local application doesn't run with this error message: 502 - Web server received an invalid response while acting as a gateway or proxy server. There is a problem with the page you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. When the Web server (while acting as a gateway or proxy) contacted the upstream content server, it received an invalid response from the content server. Is it even possible to run both application and routing (reverse proxy) at the same time?

  This is probably a silly question. I'm doing some http requests using wget from the command line, and I want those connections to be made through one specific IP of the 4 IPs my server has. Those http requests go to one specific range of IPs so I only want those to be routed differently. The 4 interfaces in my server are eth0, eth0:0, eth0:1, eth0:2. I tried with the following command: route add -net 192.164.10.0/24 dev eth0:0 But when I see the routing table it says: Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt Iface 192.164.10.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth0 The interface is set to eth0 not eth0:0 as my command says. What am I doing wrong?

  Hey all, I'm mainly a developer, but every now and again I jump into the sys-admin position. For the most part I've gotten away with deploying php and python apps using apache. I write today because I'm starting to research faster alternatives to apache, yet still have some of the core features I require like put and delete methods and the ability to connect to a socket via apache. ( This I have not tried, but might be a nice whistle if I ever employ comet on my apps. ) As you've probably guessed, I use javascript exclusively for all my websites utilizing deep linking for SEO support. The main areas that I'm looking to increase performance is the connection between the django apps and the web server to the client response. Every day I work my best to keep the smallest memory foot print as possible, however I am getting to the end of my rope when it comes to working with apache. In general, keep in mind that I'm just starting this research so I'm looking more for material to read then solutions at this moment. My main questions: Am I missing something about apache that makes it faster then everything else? What would be a good server environment to deploy just static files one? What are some of the leading open-source and paid alternatives?

  when I attempt to goto any page in my web application (i'm migrating the code from an asp.net web site to web application, and now testing it) .. i keep getting some not authenticated error(s) . So, i've turned on FREB and this is what it says... I'm not sure what that means?   I can open a cmd window and start a tail by entering something like this: tail -f C:\Oracle\WebCenter\Sites\11gR1\Sites\11.1.1.6.1\logs\sites.log This is probably a stupid question, but how do I do this in a batch file? It should be easy but it's not working - I have tried a couple variations and no success. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong here?   If I have 1 generic RADIUS server and a number of clients (VoIP server, VPN server, WIFI access point) how to distinguish senders (NAS) of access and accounting requests? I didn't found anything helpful by reading all related RFCs, there just NAS-IP-Addess or NAS-Identifier is required, but this attributes usually represents IP address of the NAS and this address can not be used as a robust identifier, because it's often possible to fall into the case when 2 different NASes are running on the same server and this attributes can not be customized. Any ideas?

• Marking Discussions as Answered

  As a contributor to a number of projects on CodePlex I really like the fact that the discussions feature exists but also I need ways to help me sort the discussions threads so I can make sure no-one is getting forgotten about. Seems like a lot of you agreed as the feature request Provide feature to allow Coordinators to mark Discussions threads as 'Answered' is our number 2 voted feature right now with 178 votes.  Today we rolled out the first iteration of “answer” support to discussions. In this first iteration we wanted to keep it simple and lightweight. The original poster of the thread along with project owners, developers or editors can mark any post to the thread as an answer. You can have any number of answers marked in a thread and it’s very quick to mark or unmark a post as an answer.  We deliberately keep the answers in the originally posted order so that you can see them in context with the discussion thread. When viewing discussions the default view is still to see everything, but you can easily filter by “Unanswered”.  You can even save that as a bookmark so as someone interested in the project can quickly jump to the unanswered discussion threads to go help out on. As I mention, we kept this first pass of the answering feature as simple and as lightweight as possible so that we can get some feedback on it. Head on over to the issue tracking this feature if you have any thoughts once you have used it for a bit or feel free to respond in the comments. I already have a couple of things I think we want to do such as a refresh of the look and feel of discussions in general along, make it easier to navigate to posts that are marked an answered and surface posts that you do that were marked as answered in your profile page - but if you have ideas then please let us know.

  We are enabled to connect to an https server using WebRequest because of this error message : The request was aborted: Could not create SSL/TLS secure channel. We know that the server aint got a valid https certificate with the path used (and we're not even sure if its fully release yet... ) but to bypass this issue, we use the following code that we've taken somewhere here in another post. Edit: To be more clear, I need a way to inspect or trigger the client-side validation result of the textbox, when I click the unrelated button beside it. Edit: I now have the button JS checking for $("form").validate().invalid, but not displaying the usual validation messages. Almost there Any ideas?

  I have the following bit of code that worked as expected before we upgraded to Integrated Pipeline in IIS7. public void RedirectPermanently(string url, bool clearCookies) { Response.ClearContent(); Response.StatusCode = 301; Response.AppendHeader("Location", url); if(clearCookies) { Response.Cookies.Clear(); Response.Flush(); Response.End(); } } Previously when this method was executed, if clearCookies was true, the response would be sent to the client and request processing would end. Now under Integrated Pipeline Response.End() does not seem to end processing. The page continues running as if the method was never called. Big question is, why and what changed! Thanks.

  Sorry for the long and yet still somehow vague title! A friend of mine has a Flash Action script running on a LAMP server that currently reads an xml config file. He's asked me if it's possible to remove the xml file, and replace it somehow with a system (lets call it an 'auto xml generator') that intercepts the request to read that file and generates an output, so it appears to all intents and purposes as if the file still exists and contains the contents that has actually been returned from our auto xml generator Hours of Googling has failed to come up with any promising leads, can anyone offer any advice?   Hey, I'm helping out a friend with a website he's developing and we are having trouble with preloading images on request. Basically, when the user clicks on a thumbnail of the product a <div> slides down that includes a scrolling carrousel of large images. In total there are about 20MB of images that could be loaded in (if you did them all) so preloading them on the page load would not be an option. Is there a way that we could call a javascript function that begins to preload about 4 images and then when it's done it has a callback function? Thanks! P.S. We are using jQuery on the page...

• Has glassfish 2.1.1 a bug handling http request and handle them twice?

  I'm using glassfish 2.1.1. I've watched a mysterious http/webservice-call handling. It seams an http request is handled by two different threads. After http basic authentication the first thread is faster. Persisting some data end, but writing response fails in glassfish internal. The second thread fails, because it tries to persist identical data and there are (unique) constrain failures. The response (the failure) of second thread was delivered to client. I don't won't discuss the behavior with the unique constrain failure. I've improve the webservice, so it can handle this better, because it could be happen anytime, that the client send the ws call a second time. But I think, glassfish 2.1.1 has an bug handling http request. Is there any known issue? Have I done an mistake?
