• Debian and Multipath IO problem

  Basically the situation is, I have a box running Debian, the box internally has an Intel SCSI RAID controller which is controlling 2 hard drives in RAID1 mode which is where the OS is installed. Further, I have a QLogic fiber channel adapter that connects the unit to a Fiber Channel SAN. My process of installation is I'll install Debian to the local drives, and leave the QLogic firmware out of it for the time being. Then once I get the unit online, I'll install the firmware drivers. This flops my internal drives from /dev/sda to /dev/sdc, which is a bit annoying, but recoverable. Probably should address these by UUID anyways. Once I get back online, I have to install multipath-tools (the framework is a multipath framework). However, once I reboot the machine again, it fails on boot after discovering multipath targets, saying my local drives are busy and cannot be mounted to /root. Any help in what may be the problem here? Or at least how to disable multipath until after the unit boots and then ignores the internal drives?

• Linux Mounting Problem

  I have an Iomega Network Attached Storage device on my Windows network. I am trying to use a clonezilla live USB flash drive to backup my netbook to my Iomega Network Attached Storage device. The clonezilla USB flash drive runs linux. I'm having trouble getting the Network Attached Storage unit to mount using the following command: mount -t cifs -o username="myUsername" //192.168.1.100/backup /home/partimg The response from linux is: [134.730738] CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -6 retrying with upper case share name [134.788461] CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -6 mount error(6): No such device or address Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs) I also tried adding the following to my username: username="myUsername,domain=workgroup" but that did not change the error. I am able to ping the network attached storage unit from linux on my netbook. I also booted from a Slax Live USB Flash Drive and Slax auto-mounted my network attached storage unit via Samba. Unfortunately, I don't believe that I can run clonezilla from inside the Slax installation. Does anyone have any insight about what is wrong with my mount statement? Or is there something peculiar about Iomega drives which makes this impossible?

• systemd: enabling cherokee service as a `unit file`

  So I am learning how to use systemd to initialize my services automatically on server reboot. So of course, I first make sure I have systemd and some optional systemd related packages installed. pacman -S systemd initscripts-systemd Installation seems to go well and checking, I can see that systemd and its dependency libsystemd are installed. And the optional package initscripts-systemd is also installed:- [root@li280-195 ~]# pacman -Ss systemd extra/libsystemd 44-5 [installed] systemd client libraries extra/systemd 44-5 [installed] system and service manager extra/systemd-sysvcompat 2-2 sysvinit compat symlinks for systemd community/initscripts-systemd 20120412-1 [installed] Arch specific systemd initialization/bootup scripts for systemd community/systemd-arch-units 20120412-2 Arch specific Systemd unit files Next, I ensure that systemd is loaded up when my server reboots, via grub in grub's /boot/grub/menu.lst file like this:- kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/xvda ro init=/bin/systemd Rebooting my server to check, all loads up well and I can check that systemd is operational via:- systemctl list-unit-files However, I don't see my cherokee initialization script (which is simply created at /etc/rc.d/cherokee when I installed cherokee earlier via pacman -S cherokee) being listed as one of my unit files. So the question is, how do I do that? How do I put my cherokee initialization script under systemd's control?

• Wireless card on HP laptop not working

  I just bought an HP Envy m6-1125dx online from Best Buy. When I got it home and started it up, the wireless card did not work well - at all. I could connect, but any real usage would cause the connection to start dropping every 30 seconds or so, and it would be really slow. Taking another look at the reviews on the Best Buy site, it seems only a few others had this problem, so I took it to my local Best Buy and exchanged it for another unit. Got it home again and the card had the same issues. Which leads to my dilemma. First: does this model have several different cards that it could come with? Mine is a Ralink RT5390R (on both units I received). If it does, then I can keep exchanging until I get a unit with a different card. I wouldn't ask this, except it seems weird that only a few people mentioned this issue, so I thought that might be one possibility. I looked in to replacing the card with a different one myself, but it seems that HP blocks certain wireless cards. However, some people reported success in replacing the card, and this site said it was only an issue on "older HP computer[s]". Can anyone confirm this? Finally, if that fails/will not work, does anyone know what I can get through Best Buy? I am concerned that they will not put any different card than the Ralink, and after two of those, I don't want that. Can I ask Best Buy support to use a different card? Can they even get another card from HP? I guess the base question is: should I attempt to replace the card myself (two days via Amazon to get a new card), should I try to get the laptop repaired through Best Buy (two - four weeks), should I go for a different model laptop from Best Buy, or should I try a different unit of the same model (three's the charm?).

• Replacing the LCD panel in a netbook (Asus Eee PC 1005)

  Yesterday, I was cleaning up and dropped my Asus Eee 1005PE. The screen is cracked inside (i.e., cracks are visible only when on), and no longer works properly. I booted up with another monitor attached, and the computer itself is fine, but needs a new screen. Best Buy wants at least $250 to repair it (that includes their $150 fee to breathe in the same room as the unit), and Asus was of no help at all. (They're incredibly cagey and won't provide any money numbers at all, not even the cost of the part.) If replacing the LCD is no more trouble than replacing memory or a hard drive, I can do that. It's within my means to buy the part (18G241010402, a TFT LCD), but I'd like to know more about the procedure involved. My question: How does one replace the screen in this unit? Do I simply open the case and swap out the unit, or do I need to disassemble anything else to get to the screen? I don't want to order the part and then end up in a situation like this. Is the case screwed shut, or is it like an iPod where they glue things closed? I know enough about my abilities with a soldering gun to not attempt to solder tiny wires, would any of that be involved?

• Why i disconnect every few seconds? using USB wireless adapter

  i know it's for ubuntu questions..but mint and ubuntu are very similiar and i had the same problem with linux ubuntu too..so i think this is the right place for my question anyway i don't have experience with drivers and other things,after installing Linux on my machine( i did dist-upgrade btw) everything seem to be great because i didn't have to install any driver, after a while i realized that my connection stop after few minutes(actually it shows that I'm connected but it's not) so i have to reconnect and after few minutes it disconnect again. I'm using Alfa USB wireless adapter AWS036H, and my Linux version is 11 i think the driver i'm using is Realtek i searched in the Internet and i found nothing. these are some outputs of few things The top right corner of the next image should look like, the bottom left is what turned out in the code. I'm think it was because of the texture region but I'm not 100%. Can somebody explain why it is really warped? I thought the changes I made in the coding will just change position/rotation, rather then a change in the image.

• passwordless ssh not working

  I've tried to setup a password-less ssh b/w A to B and B to A as well. Generated the public and private key using ssh-keygen -trsa on both the machines. Used the ssh-copy-id utility to copy the public-keys from A to B as well as B to A. The passwordless ssh works from A to B but not from B to A. I've checked the permissions of the ~/ssh/ folder and seems to be normal. • Why does the login screen fail to appear?

  My system: Dell Precision T3500 nVidia Quadro NVS 295 Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64 (3.2.0-32) Essential problem: On boot my system won't get past the splash screen. I can switch to another virtual terminal and log in, I can also ssh from another system -- so it appears that the problem might be with the display manager. How can I diagnose and fix this problem? More info: From a VT I can issue sudo lightdm restart, and this will bring up the login screen and and I can continue from there. So I do have access to my system. • High CPU load for 1:30 minutes when mounting ext4-raid partition

  I have a raid 5 (software) with 5x2TB drives. I encrypted the raid with cryptsetup and put an ext4-partition on top. In the beginning opening and mounting the raid took less than 10 seconds, now (for a few weeks) mounting alone takes 1:30 minutes and the cpu stays around 93% the whole time: The output of "time sudo mount /dev/mapper/8000 /media/8000" is: real 1m31.952s user 0m0.008s sys 1m25.229s At the same time only one line is added to /var/log/syslog: kernel: [ 2240.921381] EXT4-fs (dm-1): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. Opts: (null) My Ubuntu-version is "12.04.1 LTS" and no updates are pending. I checked the partition with fsck, but it says that all is ok. The "cryptsetup luksOpen" command only takes a few seconds. I also tried changing the raid-bitmap (as it was suggested in some forum) but it did not change the behaviour. sudo mdadm --grow /dev/md0 -b internal and sudo mdadm --grow /dev/md0 -b none I had the idea that it might be the hardware being slow, but a read test with "sudo hdparm -t /dev/md0" spit out values between 62 and 159 MB/sec: Timing buffered disk reads: 382 MB in 3.00 seconds = 127.14 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 482 MB in 3.02 seconds = 159.62 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 190 MB in 3.03 seconds = 62.65 MB/sec Timing buffered disk reads: 474 MB in 3.02 seconds = 157.12 MB/sec Although I think it is strange that the read rate jumps by more than 100% - could that mean something? The speed test when reading from the mapped (decrypted) device shows similar behavior, although it is of course much slower. • Wifi problems after upgrading to 13.10

  I just upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10, but since the upgrade I don't have internet access via wifi anymore. I can: See networks Connect to a network Ping myself (localhost, 192.168.0.103) I can't: Ping others (including other devices on the same wireless network, including the gateway/router) Resolve hosts Access any other external resource, whether on my own network or on the internet Using Wireshark, I noticed my computer is continuously sending ARP-requests like "Who has 192.168.0.1 [which is the gateway]? Tell 192.168.0.103". It doesn't get any replies though. When I ping another IP-address for which it knows the mac-address (from cache), it turns out a packet loss of 90% occurs, and even if a packet manages to arrive it takes around 3000ms. • Application stuck in TCP retransmit

  I am running Linux kernel 3.13 (Ubuntu 14.04) on two Virtual Machines each of which operates inside two different servers running ESXi 5.1. There is a zeromq client-server application running between the two VMs. After running for about 10-30 minutes, this application consistently hangs due to inability to retransmit a lost packet. When I run the same setup over Ubuntu 12.04 (Linux 3.11), the application never fails If you notice below, "ss" (socket statistics) shows 1 packet lost, sk_wmem_queued of 14110 (i.e. w14110) and a high rto (120000). State Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address:Port Peer Address:Port ESTAB 0 12350 192.168.2.122:41808 192.168.2.172:55550 timer:(on,16sec,10) uid:1000 ino:35042 sk:ffff880035bcb100 <- skmem:(r0,rb648720,t0,tb1164800,f2274,w14110,o0,bl0) ts sack cubic wscale:7,7 rto:120000 rtt:7.5/3 ato:40 mss:8948 cwnd:1 ssthresh:21 send 9.5Mbps unacked:1 retrans:1/10 lost:1 rcv_rtt:1476 rcv_space:37621 Since this has happened so consistently, I was able to capture the TCP log in wireshark. I found that the packet which is lost does get retransmitted and even acknowledged by the TCP in the other OS (the sequence number is seen in the ACK), but the sender doesn't seem to understand this ACK and continues retransmitting. MTU is 9000 on both virtual machines and througout the route. The packets being sent are large in size. As I said earlier, this does not happen on Ubuntu 12.04 (kernel 3.11). So I did a diff on the TCP config options (seen via "sysctl -a |grep tcp ") between 14.04 and 12.04 and found the following differences. I also noticed that net.ipv4.tcp_mtu_probing=0 in both configurations. • How to integrate Purify into Hudson CI?

  Hello everybody! I have a Hudson CI system set up and for the moment it is used for building a project and running some unit tests. My next step is to integrate the memory leak detector Purify into the build cycle. Now I want to start the unit tests also inside purify and for this I have created a new batch task which runs following command: purify.exe /SaveTextData MyExecutable.exe --test TestLibrary.dll --output xml As I read in the Purify documentation the /SaveTextData option is used in order to run purify not in GUI mode. If I run this command on my local workstation in the command line it works perfectly. But in case it is started by Hudson, nothing happens. Unfortunetly there are no logs of purify... Has someone ever tried to start purify either by Hudson or any other CI system? Thanks in advance. On the master I have configured a task which should start the unit tests within purify on the slave. I am running the slave via JNLP. • PHPUnit won't run tests by directory

  I'm new to PHP, trying to get multiple tests to run at once. I was hoping to just run all tests in a directory, which seemed to work awhile (instead of using a phpunit.xml). I am able to run a test individually like so: phpunit FirstUnitTest sites\all\modules\experiment\unit-tests\FirstUnitTest.lua But when I try to run the same test by directory, its not found. I try using: phpunit sites\all\modules\experiment\unit-tests Does anyone know why this may not work?

  Using XScalaWT, this compiled under Scala 2.7: class NodeView(parent: Composite) extends Composite(parent) { var nodeName: Label = null this.contains( label( nodeName = _ ) ) } With 2.8.0 RC1, I get this error: type mismatch; found : main.scala.NodeView required: org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Label The types are: label(setups: (Label => Unit)*)(parent: Composite) : Label contains(setups: (W => Unit)*) : W So it looks like _ now binds to the outer function instead of inner. Is this change intentional?

  I just accidentally discovered the ant task for test coverage reports with emma. I'm now looking for a target that only invokes the unit test and generates unit testing output. Is there a list with the available ant targets somewhere, or is it possible to look them up somewhere inside the code of the SDK?
