• Codec problem: Video noise / squares blinking as it play

  Its a weird and intermittent problem, it comes and goes with time. I thought I could fix it rebooting, but it seems that is not always. Take a look: This noise keeps blinking at the screen the entire movie. If I give up and try again an hour from now, it will be fine... weird! I have K-Lite Codec Pack installed, in my machine and many others. Its very cool, everything works perfect... but mine is the only one that does it. Do anybody know whats going on? Edit: Apparently they've just release the very latest version of K-Lite today (lol), with some bug fixes. I'll be testing it. Last time I reainstalled K-Lite the problem was gone, but came back again...

  I try to install magento for the first time.   Hi all, I'm trying to set up the mail server. I have problem with my SMTP authentication using sasl. I'm using postfixadmin to create my mailboxes, the password is in some kind of md5, postfixadmin config.inc.php: $CONF['encrypt'] = 'md5crypt'; $CONF['authlib_default_flavor'] = 'md5raw'; the sasl is configured like that (/etc/postfix/sasl/smtpd.conf): pwcheck_method: auxprop auxprop_plugin: sql sql_engine: mysql mech_list: plain login cram-md5 digest-md5 sql_hostnames: 127.0.0.1 sql_user: postfix sql_passwd: **** sql_database: postfix sql_select: SELECT password FROM mailbox WHERE username = '%u@%r' log_level: 7 If I want to authenticate (let's say from Thunderbird) with my password, I can't. If I use hashed password from MySQL I can authenticate and send an email. So I think the problem is with hash algorithm. Do you know how to set up the SASL (or postfixadmin) to work fine together. I don't want to store my passwords in plain text...

• Spam issues while using Postfix as a two-way relay

  I want to use a Postfix box to do two things: Relay mail from any host on the internet addressed to one of my domains to my Zimbra server Relay mail from my Zimbra server to any address on the internet. To try and accomplish this I have configured Postfix thusly: mynetworks = 127.0.0.0/8, zimbra_ip/32 myorigin = zimbra_server mydestination = localhost, zimbra_server relay_domains = example.com example.org transport_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/transport_map local_transport = error:no mailboxes on this host transport_map looks like this: example.com smtp:[zimbra_server] example.org smtp:[zimbra_server] Now, this works and passes the Open Relay tests. However, I am seeing in the maillog that the server is relaying spam that has a From: address of <> to domains that are not mine. How do I stop this behavior?

• VIM zsh, bash and colors in command line on Ubuntu

  I have problem with VIM command line when calling system commands. e.g. !ls, all command output colors aren't parsed by VIM. My system is Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with VIM 7.3.429 from Ubuntu repositories. Is there any workaround for this problem? • Implications of allowing Windows clients to use NTLMv1?

  I have a web application that I'd like to authenticate to using pass-through NTLM for SSO. There is a problem, however, in that NTLMv2 apparently will not work in this scenario (without the application storing an identical password hash). I enabled NTLMv1 on one client machine (Vista) using its local group policy: Computer-Windows Settings-Security Settings-Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level. I changed it to Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated. This worked, and I'm able to login to the web application using NTLM. Now this application would be used by all of my client machines... so I'm wondering what the security risks are if I was push this policy out to all of them (not to the domain controller itself though)?

• MySQLi Extension with phpMyAdmin

  I just unpacked the latest phpMyAdmin into /var/www/html/phpMyAdmin and it is giving me "The mysqli extension is missing." - how do I install this? I'm on Centos. I checked php.ini and it seems to be "unlocked". when I type in php -i |grep -i mysqli ... it looks to be enabled. • Asp.net hashing (using codesmith) when upgrading from .net 2.0 to 3.5

  Hi, I'm administrating servers running IIS 6, hosting a website on ASP.NET 2.0. Yesterday I installed .Net framework 3.5, and all my user authentication system was lost. Users can't log in, because their password arn't getting authenticated, maybe because the hash function has changed in 3.5??? I can't really get to the code, but I know it uses an extention called CodeSmith. Do you know of any break my upgrade the 3.5 ugrade could couse? Please help. Thanks.

• Setting the Timezone with an automated script

  I'm writing scripts to automate setting up new slicehost installations. In a perfect world, after I started the script, it would just run, with no attention from me. I have succeeded, with one exception. How do I set the timezone, in a permanent (survive reboot) and sane (adjust for standard and daylight savings time, so no just forcing the date) ... manner that doesn't require input from me? Currently, I'm using dpkg-reconfigure tzdata This doesn't seem to have any way to force parameters into it. It demands user input. EDIT: I'm editing here, rather than commenting, since comments don't seem to allow code blocks. Here's the actual code I ended up with, based on Rudedog's comment below. I also noticed that this doesn't update /etc/timezone. I'm not certain who uses that, but in case anybody does, I'm setting that too. • internet connection problem related to a recurring registry error

  I have a Windows XP desktop system connected to the Internet via ethernet LAN. Initially, none of my browsers were connecting to the Internet, but I was able to update my antivirus software and all of my connection settings were perfect. I was able to solve the problem by running WinSock XP, which apparently fixes connection problems that have been caused by registry issues. My problem now is that every time I shut down the machine, the problem comes back (Internet browsers won't connect). Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions on this? Thanks

• How to retain background colors when pasting between documents in Excel

  I have a script that programatically generates excel spreadsheets - cleaning up ugly reports that are given to us from another organisation. For interests sake; I'm using PHPExcel to generate the "clean" reports. We get these reports every week for an event that happens every couple of months. The reports contain a list of attendees along with a group id that allows us to know that some attendees belong together. To help the event organisers out, I've taken the event ID and generated a unqiue color code (based on the hash of the event ID - truncated to 6 characters). This unique colour code is set as the background color of a cell in each row. This helps organisers quickly visually identify group members. Trouble is, when the organisers copy the rows from the weeks report into the master report (which contains all attendees, not just the ones that signed up this week) - all the colour-codes snap to the master template's color pallette.   Hi, I have a BPEL running on WPS 6.2 trying to call a web service on developed on RAD 7.5, deployed on RAD test environment. I have setup WS Transaction policy on both client and server. I get an error on WAS 7.0 saying Must Understand check failed for headers: {http:// schemas.xmlsoap.org/ws/2004/10/wscoor}CoordinationContext I tried to generate the same webservice on ibm wid 6.2 and deployed on EAR on WAS 7, it works perfect. Any thoughts ? Is there a SOAP runtime mismatch ? Help appreciated . -AK

• How to fix choppy video with VLC player?

  When playing most movies in VLC player, the video feed is choppy. Furthermore, the sound is near perfect. Another catch is, this video issue wasn't always an issue. I use to play movies with no problem with video or sound. I can not pin point what has changed between the it use to work fine and the time it started being choppy though. I have an ASUS G73JW-A1. This system should be more than enough to handle the demand of playing HD videos. Movies that are normally effected are HD videos. These video range from 4 to 9 gigs. In addition, the videos are in MKV, MP4 (or M4V), and AVCHD (or M2TS) formats. I get the same results when playing move directly off my hard drive or off an external. Finally, all the drivers have been recently checked and updated if needed.

• How do I merge MP4 files without audio going out of sync?

  Is there a tool I can use that can merge MP4 files without throwing the audio out of sync? I generated some MP4 files from a DVD using AVIDemux but whatever tool I try to use always ends up throwing the audio out of sync with the video. The further you get into the video the further off-sync the audio is. By themselves the MP4/AAC videos have perfect audio-video sync. later tonight i might try http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ to examine the file before and after to see if anything changed in the media format.

• Here's what I want... what do I tell my IT guy I need?

  I work in the graphics department for a real estate brokerage, and we deal with a lot of photos. Agents take the photos, upload them to me, I touch up and standardize the photos, then I add them to an in-house server for future use by the graphics dept. I'd like to make the "sanitized" photo files available to the agents to use when they want, but I don't want the agents poking around the graphics department's files (things get misplaced, renamed and messed up in a hurry). What would be perfect is if we could create a read-only "mirror" (correct term?) of that server that could be accessed by the agents as needed, but which wouldn't feed back into our "sanitized" file system. What do I tell the office IT guy I need (platform-agnostically, because I don't know what he's running)? I never get to see him face-to-face, so I've got to word this as carefully and explicitly as possible. Thoughts? Thanks in advance for your feedback

• Printer monitor software across multiple workstations (AD integrated)

  I was asked to see if there is any kind of (free) software that allows multiple people in an office that use the same printer to see what jobs have finished recently, which are queued and which is printing. Main reason is that sometimes multiple people have the same task where they need to print some kind of form, and they are unsure whether or not their colleague has already printed the file. Because the printer is AD integrated, they only see a short message when printing, but they do not see a proper printer queue. A simple tray icon/tool would be perfect, no real graphical user interface is required. If this turns out to be too hard to find, I will attempt to write a simple application or script for the job, but since this is a low priority job I decided to ask here first before I start messing around with scripting which isn't my forte. • Execution plan different on two different Sql Servers

  On our sql server, a query takes 20 ms. If I look at the execution plan, parallelism is used, hash match, Bitmap create, ... a lot of images with two arrows pointing to the left. On sql server of a customer where our product runs, the same query takes 2500 ms. If I look at their execution plan, no parallelism or any of the things with arrows are used... I've been searching for a couple of days no why the query runs so much slower on their sql server. Is parallelism and all of the other things something that can be configured on their sql server? And how to you configure that? What are the dangers of using parallelism? Another strange thing is that on our server, the query needs some 1200 reads and 0 writes. On their sql server it needs 1.5 million reads and some 1500 writes. Why these writes when a read query is done?

• Sharing Windows Store apps between accounts

  In Windows 8 it seems natural to me that each person in a family has their own Microsoft Account with which they log in. If you pay for an app on the Windows Store, you can install that same app on several computers using the same Microsoft Account. Good. However, if several persons, in this case my children, each have their own account on the same computer, they do not get access to apps bought on a sibling's account, even if the app has been installed on the same computer. Bad. (Compare this to iOS where you are allowed have several iPhones with different iCloud-connected accounts but all using the same iTunes App Store account, which is perfect for a family where all can then use the same app which was bought just once) Is there any way to share apps between Microsoft Accounts (e.g. members of the same family)? Alternatively, is there a way to run apps that are installed on a computer when you are logged in with a Microsoft Account different than the one used when installing the app?

• Good translation (manually) software

  I'm looking for a good translation software. i do not mean something that does all the translation automatically for me. But rather something that aids me in translating large pieces of text, since it has to be a perfect translation i can't leave it to computers alone. Something like http://translate.google.com/toolkit but with more options/functions would be great. Preferably freeware ofcourse (But paid is not a problem). At the moment i use the Google toolkit since it's adequate for now, but i really need something more advanced. But looking for such software on google etc. is really hard because of the confusion with translation services and things like babelfish. Do you know any software like this? and maybe want to share your thoughts/experiences.

• Best Amazon S3 File Manager Utility?

  Ever since I started using Amazon's S3 service I've been struggling to find a good solution for simple file management, without having to write my own app to browse my buckets, upload and delete files, etc. The best I've found so far to do this is S3Fox. But it's far from perfect, it has problems deleting files and folders. Comments on the Firefox plugin page indicate I'm not the only person with this problem and the developer does not respond to emails. I've looked around briefly, but couldn't find anything that looked any better than S3Fox. Please tell me there's a better way! Edit (07/26/2009): The Firefox S3Fox extension seems to be getting love from its developer again, the problems I was having before have gone away, and I'm using it on a regular basis now with no problems!

• Restore only changed files with duplicity

  Hello Guys, I've a problem. Duplicity is perfect for backups, I love so much that can be able to do incremental diff tars, but ... when restoring duplicity seems don't apply same concept. Basically I need to restore only changed files (obviously after a full backup) but I can't figure how do that. When I try to restore a directory I get: Restore destination directory /Volumes/Data/Backups/Srv1 already exists. I need to backup a directory (and I don't have any problems in doing that) and setup a mirror on another machine. Thanks!

  I run thttpd to serve some perl files. But for some reason the daemon is exiting every second or third day. Strangely it's always at 6.25 am. • benchmark tcp: ab or iperf like tool to send hex/binary/pcap data?

  Hello all, I have written a server in Twisted for a current project I'm working on, and now I need to test it. It receives TCP packets, with the payload consisting of just a serialised binary string. I want to be able to test the server for concurrency/throughput using the binary data as the payload, but can not find any tool that will allow me to do this. I tried iperf -F but it didn't work, as I think it was sending the binary/hex data as chars. I've also looked at ab which seems to be perfect - if only for http. As well as these, I've had a look at tcpreplay, but it doesn't perform any testing (or establish TCP connections) so it's not much use. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm rather stuck on this one!

  I have php script on hosting, which receive big data with ajax/post. Just now, after some works on hosting, I see that script is broken. I checked with curl: file temp1: user_avatar=&user_baner=&user_sig=.... 237 chars total, and curl -H "X-Requested-With: XMLHttpRequest" -X POST --data @temp1 'http://host/mypage.php' works perfect. But with file temp2: name=%D0%9C%D0%B5%D0%B1%%B5%D0%BB%D1%8C%D0%A4%%B0%D0%B1%D1%80%D0%B8%D0%BA%D1%8A&user_payed=0000-00-00&...positions%5B5231%5D=on total chars: 65563 curl -H "X-Requested-With: XMLHttpRequest" -X POST --data @temp2 'http://host/mypage.php' curl return nothing. Looks like a problem with apache/php/php.ini or something like that. I check .htaccess php_value post_max_size 20M Which other parameters I should check? Is it possible that %BO encode kill php/apache? Or total number of parameters (about 2800) ?
