• ActiveRecord date format

  I've run into a spot of bother with date formats in our Rails application. I have a date field in our view which I want to be formatted as dd/mm/yy. This is how the user will expect to enter their dates, and the datepicker control uses this format. However, Active Record seems to be expecting mm/dd/yy. If I enter 01/03/2010, this gets put in as 03 January 2010. If I enter 25/03/2010, this gets put in a null. How do I get ActiveRecord to expect Her Majesties date format?

• Proper chart scaling in Reporting Services 2005

  I'm developing a simple bar-chart in Reporting Services 2005 with a stored procedure as data-source. The values in this graph can be both positive and negative, and can span a very big range, and hence I cannot specify any non-dynamic scale that will work for all scenarios. The problem I'm facing is that the automatic scaling pretty much sucks. I get no line to show where the zero-point is, and the y-scale labels are from top to bottom: 8818 -191181 -391181 etc etc... So my question is, what is the best approach to make the scale more adapted to human reading? Is there any guide out there? Does reporting services 2008 handle this better? Also, moving away from Reporting Services is not really an option. I realize how to put values and expression in the max, min, and the gridline interval fields, although its more of a question what expressions I should put there.

• RESTful web service, PUTting an unnamed resource?

  I have a back-end service that creates unique identifiers for resources. The general idea is that resources are saved and versioned, so you can perform: GET http://service/sales/targets/7818181919/latest or GET http://service/sales/targets/7818181919/4 for version 4, and so on. My question is about the most correct way to upload these resources in the first place. How about: PUT http://service/sales/targets/ returning 303 See other /service/sales/targets/ It seems a little wrong as you should PUT and GET from exactly the same place using a resource-oriented interface, but I can't think of a better option. Any ideas?

• Include a repetitive chunk of html with PHP?

  I basically have a div on my Web Site that always has the same stuff. However, this div is not present on all pages which is why I won't use the dynamic web template. I was wondering if it was possible for PHP to get the code from a document on the server and put in into the div? Ex: div id="section... then my text file contains (p) hello (p) basically I want PHP to put it into the div when the user sees it. If theres a smarter way of acheiving this I'd be open to it aswell. • Tabs.url is undefined

  I have no clue what I'm doing wrong here! This should be working I believe. I'm writing a chrome extension and this should get the current tab's url and set the html of #current-tab to the url (for testing purposes). The code successfully gets to the callback, but it says that tab.url is undefined when I put it in an alert box, and it does not put it's value in #current-tab. • Putting sql result set into JList

  hi there. im working on my second year project and im nearly finished but ive got a problem. i have a table set up in oracle that holds user names, recipients, and messages. i wanted to make a contacts list for sendin messages that would take the user names and put them into a swing jlist but i cant figure out how. i thought maybe if i put the usernames into an array from the sql itd be easier but that didnt work. any ideas?

  Hi all, I have one question. I try to develop a little WYSIWYG editor. I would like create a <h1> button which allows me to generate a <h1> title (by clicking on button after text selection in <p> element). I obtain the selection with window.getSelection().... But now, I would like to put my append("<h1>my text selected</h1>") just before the <p>. It’s my problem, because my <p> elements don’t have id or class. So do you know a means to put my append just before the <p> where my text has been selected? I don’t know if with my bad English you’ll understand me! Thanks very much for your help.

• ColdFusion debugging output in my Ajax

  If I turn off "Enable Request Debugging Output", the 3rd option under the Debug Output Settings, then I no longer get debug info in my $.ajax call to a cfc with access="remote". That's good, but I'd like to keep it turned on for all my other programs and turn it off programatically for this one exception. I put <cfsetting showdebugoutput="false"> at the top of my Index.cfm, but that didn't turn off the debug output coming from the cfc. Oh wait. Never mind. I had to put the in the function rather than in Index.cfm.

  Hi experts, I am developing my application in asp.net 3.5 and sql server 2005, and I want to record the visitor info into my database, like once the visitor enter my website, I'll insert his browser details to the database. [It's not necessary that visitor login my website]. Now I am confused where to put my code, If I put insert function in every page_load then on every page it will execute and I'll not be able to get the exact number of visitor, visited my website.   I have an Android App and I would like to start putting non-intrusive advert into the app. However, I have the benefit of knowing exactly what products I would like to put in these adverts (which will basically be amazon "similar products" type things and a few other suppliers). Is there any ad-engine out there that will allow me to do this? The ones I see already just put what they think are suitable. I have scoured and I can't find an example of this... Any ideas? Should I just bite the bullet and write my own classes to do this ?

• putting data from a for loop into a table using matlab and fprintf

  I am trying to put the following data from my for loop into a table formatted so that there are 11 values of F in each column, with a total of 4 columns. but I am always ending up with one long column of my data instead of the four columns I want. I was wondering if there is some way to put the data into a matrix and then reshape it, but I am having trouble. • Should I use C(99) booleans ? ( also c++ booleans in c++ ?)

  I haven't done much c programming but when I do when I need a false I put 0 when I want true I put 1, (ex. while(1)), in other cases I use things like "while(ptr)" or "if(x)". Should I try using C99 booleans, should I recommend them to others if I'm helping people new to programming learn c basics(thinking of cs 1?? students)? I'm pretty sure the Visual Studio compiler supports c99 bools, but do a lot of projects (open source and c apps in industry) compile for c89? If I don't use C bools should I at least do something like #define TRUE 1 #define FALSE 0? Also what about c++ Booleans (for c++)?

• Why do I have to use the "origin" for the pull to be successfull

  when I do : git pull BranchName it tells me everything is up to date but I know that is not true. When I do: git pull origin BranchName then I get the files I was expecting. Is there an easy way to answer this or do I need to provide more details. PS One thing I did do just to understant themechanics of git is give the branch name in my cloned repo a different name than on the remote repo. I did however put the right name in the config file like so: [branch "myUDPspinoff"] remote = origin merge = refs/heads/UDPspinoff this worked before on another repo but not this one. And when I put everything in the same name thenI did not need to use origin anymore.

  I have a LinkedList of Components, each of which I would like to add into two different JTabbedPanes. For some reason, Swing is only letting me put each component into one or the other. • Create MVC 5 Combo Box from CRM Entities?

  I am working on an MVC 5 App that pulls data from Dynamics CRM 5. The Data I am getting back is an IQueryable of type Account (The CRM Entity class auto generated by CrmSvcUtil). I am retrieving all of the items and can loop through them with code like this: @foreach (var item in Model.ToList()) { <tr> <td> @item.AccountId </td> <td> @Html.DisplayFor(modelItem => item.Name) </td> </tr> } The problem is, I would like to instead put them in a drop down list. I can't figure out what the syntax is to put these in a DropDown is. Any suggestions?
