• How to get smartcard reader name in Windows 7 using C#?

  Hi! I'm trying to make a C# program which will use a C .dll (unfortunately, the .dll doesn't have good documentation) to access a smart card. One of the functions of the .dll uses name of the reader as argument. My problem is that I don't know how to get the name. After looking for answers I found something similar to what I need in an example here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa379803%28VS.85%29.aspx I'm looking for a way to get szReader value as described in the aforementioned example using C#. Can anyone help me or at least point me in the right direction?

• Hy, problem mantaining big javascript code.

  I have more than 1000 lines in a big jquery plugin, that is actually a big class, that inludes some others classes, but they have to be in the same file. I inlcude a piece of code. If you have another way to simplify the code.. • Search for partial IP address using Windows Search?

  I have a folder, c:\projects\, added to Windows Index. I know the indexing is working because I search for stuff in this folder all the time and the results come up very fast, and I've never noticed any accuracy problem until now. (I have had to tweak Indexing options to expand which file types have their contents indexed rather than just the file name, etc, but after that Search has worked pretty well for me). I've encountered a problem while trying to search for references to a particular IP address subnet. I'm trying to find all references to IP's with the pattern "192.168.220.xxx" (AKA, the 192.168.220.0/24, AKA 192.168.220.0/255.255.255.0 IP/netmask). Within Windows Explorer: c:\projects**.* is indexed c:\projects\work\project1\network_list.txt contains several "192.168.220.xxx" IP's Indexing status says all items are indexed (193,000 items). When I try to search for partial IP match, there are no search results. Tried searching for: 192.168.220, 192.168, 192.168.220., 192.168.220., 192.168.220.?, 192.168.220.??, 192.168.220.???, 192.168., 192.168.. Also tried variants of all the above surrounded with double quotes. All the searches returned 0 results. Within MS Outlook 2007: My mailbox, and all my offline .pst's are indexed. I search in Outlook pretty frequently, so I'm pretty sure indexed searches work across inbox and all .pst's. Indexing status in Outlook says all items are indexed. I also have references to these IP's in email, and I'd like to find all of them. Basically same deal as above, can't search for "192.168.220.xxx" IP's. Any way to fix this?

  Hi everyone! I need to translate colors in bitmap loaded to BufferedImage from RGB to YCbCr (luminance and 2 channels chrominance) and back after process. I made it with functions used like rgb2ycbcr() in main method for each pixel, but it isn't so smart solution. I should use ColorSpace and ColorModel classes to get BufferedImage with correct color space. It would be more flexible method, but I don't know how to do that. I'm lost and I need some tips. Can somebody help me?

• C# - Removing items from lists and all references to them.

  Hi there, I'm facing a situation where I have dependent objects and I would like to be able to remove an object and all references to it. Say I have an object structure like the code below, with a Branch type which references two Nodes. public class Node { // Has Some Data! } public class Branch { // Contains references to Nodes public Node NodeA public Node NodeB } public class Graph { public List<Node> Nodes; public List<Branch> Branches; } If I remove a Node from the Nodes list in the Graph class, it is still possible that one or more Branch objects still contains a reference to the removed Node, thus retaining it in memory, whereas really what I would quite like would be to set any references to the removed Node to null and let the garbage collection kick in. Other than enumerating through each Branch and checking each Node reference sequentially, are there any smart ideas on how I remove references to the Node in each Branch instance AND indeed any other class which reference the removed Node? • Vbscript - Compare and copy files from folder if newer than destination files

  Hi, I'm trying to design this script that's supposed to be used as a part of a logon script for alot of users. And this script is basically supposed to take a source folder and destination folder as basically just make sure that the destination folder has the exact same content as the source folder. But only copy if the datemodified stamp of the source file is newer than the destination file. I have been thinking out this basic pseudo code, just trying to make sure this is valid and solid basically. • C++: building iterator from bits

  I have a bitmap and would like to return an iterator of positions of set bits. Right now I just walk the whole bitmap and if bit is set, then I provide next position. I believe this could be done more effectively: for example build statically array for each combination of bits in single byte and return vector of positions. This can't be done for a whole int, because array would be too big. But maybe there are some better solutions? Do you know any smart algorithms for this?

• Windows XP Home Edition SP3 cant recognise PCMIA SD Card

  System Specifications: Laptop : Dell Inspiron 6000 OS: Windows Home Edition SP3 SD Adapter: Hagiwara Smart Media Adapter I inserted the card into the slot, windows xp recognises the device, lists the pcmia controller on the device manager list, an entry appears under the IDE ATA/ATAPI category on the device manager as well. However, the device does not show under my computer and the driver does not get assigned a letter number. I checked the system logs from the device manager and there were no logged errors. Checking the Hagiwara support website, the manufacturer indicates that the adapter driver is the same as the windows xp pcmia controller. Checking Dell's website, no specific drivers were listed for that either. General Search on the web indicates that multiple people face similar problems with their SD cards, yet none actually spell out the route issue that causes this. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for further debugging. Thanks in advance

  I need to do some regex replacement on HTML input, but I need to exclude some parts from filtering by other regexp. (e.g. remove all <a> tags with specific href="example.com…, except the ones that are inside the <form> tag) Is there any smart regex technique for this? Or do I have to find all forms using $regex1, then split the input to the smaller chunks, excluding the matched text blocks, and then run the $regex2 on all the chunks?

  I'm working on an embedded system which is going to be booting and hosting it's rootfs on an SSD disk. We are currently looking at using Intel X-18M SSDs. The file system structure will have a fairly static /usr section (modulo software upgrades) and an active /var and /var/log for maintaining state and logging. Given the wear-levelling done by the underlying flash does having separate partitions help or hinder? As modern SSDs appear as straight block devices and hide their mapping magic behind their firmware is there any point trying to optimise the choice of file-system that sits on-top of the SSD? Finally does enable SMART monitoring make any sense in this context or are their SSD specific ways of determining the underlying health of the storage hardware?

• Tracking down source of duplicate email messages in Outlook / Exchange environment

  I have a few users, who are also Blackberry users, that occasionally have duplicate emails generated from their "mailbox". I put mailbox in quotes because I'm not exactly sure where the duplicates are created. One of these users is in non-cached mode, and the other is in cached mode, and both experience the problem. In fact, the non-cached mode user was originally experiencing the problem while in cached mode, and I made the switch a few weeks ago to attempt to solve the problem. Today I discovered the issue still exists. I'm not sure if the fact that they are blackberry users could be causing the problem at all. I don't see how, but felt I should mention it anyway. Does anyone have ideas on how I might begin to troubleshoot this? I can see in the non-cached user's mailbox "Sent Items" that the message was sent only once. I confirmed the message does not state that there was a conflict and in fact that makes sense because they are in non-cached mode. On the server, we have a mail journaling feature turned on for our third-party mail archiving system, and I can see that that system sees two sent messages. And likewise, the recipient does in fact have two messages in their inbox with consecutive message IDs ([email protected]) and ([email protected]). It would seem to me that the duplicates are generated on the client, but is there a way to tell for sure?

• Alignment of Hebrew Vowel points in Android

  I want to display Hebrew text with vowel points (nikkud) using the Canvas.drawText interface. The vowel points come out misaligned, as in the following image taken using a Motorola Defy+ device: The hiriq is between the resh and the yod, the holam between the vav and nun. I have added the rtl code (\u200F) to the string at both ends, no joy. I know that there are applications that have solved this problem, such as the Smart Siddur. Is there a difference between text-based applications and graphics based? I would think that the same engine renders the text in both cases. I suppose I could split up the string and place the vowels separately, but that seems pretty painful and not extensible. TIA for any clues.

• How to make WordPress "Add/Edit Post" form more Tumblr like?

  Hi, WordPress requires you give each blog post at least two fields: a title and text body content. I'm wondering how to modify WordPress admin so I can sometimes enter a single field for a blog post, in particular a URL, without WordPress requiring a title (related but not the point of this question: a custom theme would then know how to handle a post that only contained a URL, it would treat it like a "Link" post in Tumblr). Ideally it'd be good if the "add/edit post" form could be modified so it only contains this single URL/Link field when this is wanted. I'm guessing this is possible through a plugin but I'm not certain. I'm hoping some smart WordPress devs are here to share and brainstorm ideas for how this could be done. • Flex: Would a computational engine for a Connect-4 type game be too slow?

  OK, I was just fooling around in my spare time and have made this cool interface and game-playing code for a Connect-4 type game, written in Flex and playable by 2 human players in Flash. It accurately detects wins, etc. I'm smart enough to know that I've done the easy part. Before I dig into an AI for game play, I wanted to ask if this is the kind of thing that can really be handled computationally by a Flash plugin. It seems to me that for every turn up until the end there are 8 possible moves, 8 responses to each move, etc. So wouldn't a perfect engine have to be able to potentially see 8^8 moves (over 16 million), and a fairly good engine see up to a million? I don't know game coding so this is new to me. What's a reasonable move horizon for such a game to be able to see?

• A controller problem using a base CRUD model

  In CodeIgniter I'm using a base CRUD My_model, but I have this small problem in my browse-controller.. My $data['posts'] gets all posts from the table called "posts". Though the author in that table is just a user_id, which is why I need to use my "getusername" function (gets the username from a ID - the ID) to grab the username from the users table. Though I don't know how to proceed from here, since it is not just one post. Therefore I need the username to either be a part of the $data['posts'] array or some other smart solution.   I have a many-to-many relationship defined in my Symfony (using doctrine) project between Orders and Upgrades (an Order can be associated with zero or more Upgrades, and an Upgrade can apply to zero or more Orders). # schema.yml Order: columns: order_id: {...} relations: Upgrades: class: Upgrade local: order_id foreign: upgrade_id refClass: OrderUpgrade Upgrade: columns: upgrade_id: {...} relations: Orders: class: Order local: upgrade_id foreign: order_id refClass: OrderUpgrade OrderUpgrade: columns: order_id: {...} upgrade_id: {...} I want to set up delete cascade behavior so that if I delete an Order or an Upgrade, all of the related OrderUpgrades are deleted. Where do I put onDelete: CASCADE? Usually I would put it at the end of the relations section, but that would seem to imply in this case that deleting Orders would cascade to delete Upgrades. Is Symfony + Doctrine smart enough to know what I'm wanting if I put onDelete: CASCADE in the above relations sections of schema.yml?

  Hi, I am no expert in network security, so pardon if this question is not very smart :). I am automating logins to some machines using ssh. I am currently avoiding host-key warnings using StrictHostKeyChecking no. I naively understand that someone can impersonate as the server and I risk losing my password to him if that were the case. However, if I am using only public/private Key based authentication ( using PasswordAuthentication no ), can the intruder still cause harm? So basically, with ssh -o "StrictHostKeyChecking no" -o "PasswordAuthentication no" : 1) Can the intruder decipher my private key? 2) Are there any other security threats? regards, JP

  First, I am aware that dynamic languages is a term used mainly by a vendor; I am using it just to have a container word to include languages like Perl (a favorite of mine), Python, Tcl, Ruby, PHP and so on. They are interpreted but I am interested here to refer to languages featuring strong capability to support the programmer efficiency and the support for typical constructs of modern interpreted languages My question is: there are dynamic languages can be compiled efficiently in native executable code - typically for Windows platforms? Which ones? Maybe using some third part ad-hoc tools? I am not talking about huge executables carrying with them a full interpreter or some similar tricks nor some smart module able to include its own dependances or some required modules, but a honest, straight, standard, solid executable code. If not, there is some technical reason inhibiting the availability of such a best-of-both-world feature? Thanks! Daniel

• Auto-Complete Suggestions in Source Code Editor

  Hello, Most IDEs (Eclipse, Netbeans, Intelij) provide contextually smart suggestions about the current statement you're writing. We would like to do the same thing (In Java for Java). We considered tokenizing the input and building our own abstract syntax trees, but quickly realized that could be a month long project in and of its self. We also started digging through the source code for the above mentioned IDEs, but it appears (correct me if I'm wrong) that the auto-complete code is pretty tightly woven with the rest of the IDE. We're wondering if anyone knows of a relatively isolated package that we could pull into our project to provide this auto-complete functionality. Thanks!

• SSIS - Parallel Execution of Tasks - How efficient is it?

  I am building an SSIS package that will contain dozens of Sequence tasks. Each Sequence task will contain three tasks. One to truncate a destination table and remove indexes on the table, another to import data from a source table, and a third to add back indexes to the destination table. My question is this. I currently have nine of these Sequences tasks built, and none are dependent on any of the others. When I execute the package, SSIS seems to do a pretty good job of determining which tasks in which Sequence to execute, which, by the way, appears to be quite random. As I continue adding more Sequences, should I attempt to be smarter about how SSIS should execute these Sequences, or is SSIS smart enough to do it itself? Thanks.

• Firefox not displaying icons in KhanAcademy

  If you don't know what Khan Academy is, check it out. It's awesome. (For testing purpose you may view any video on the website.) My problem -- it's a minor problem, but annoying -- is that in Firefox (Windows 7), the icons below the video are shown as boxes with hex codes in them. This means the icons come from some font that isn't getting downloaded by Firefox. How it appears on Chrome (Windows 7), Safari (Mac OS X) and Stainless (Mac OS X): I checked out the source and found that the font in question is called "FontAwesome". I found this question in S.O. that may explain why this happens -- the CSS does use single quotes to enclose the font's src location. However I don't have any write access to Khan Academy servers so I can't modify the actual website. I want to know if this can be fixed in Firefox, and how. I can run Greasemonkey scripts if that would help. Also, would manually downloading the font and adding it to Windows' Fonts folder help? I tried this with the TTF font, and it does not help. • Why my custom CStatic derived control does not receive WM_SIZE message?

  Hello everyone! I'm currently developing a custom control that derives from CStatic MFC class (Smart Device C++ project). I have created the control class using VC++ MFC class wizard, selecting CStatic class as its base class. I have used Class View to add OnSize event handler for my control class (I have selected WM_SIZE message from messages list), and new OnSize method has been created by Visual Studio along with ON_WM_SIZE() statement between BEGIN_MESSAGE_MAP(...) and END_MESSAGE_MAP(). The problem is that my control does not receive WM_SIZE thus OnSize method is never called - I used MoveWindow to change size of my control - its size changes as I have seen on dialog window but WM_SIZE message is never being sent. When I send WM_SIZE through SendMessage or PostMessage function - the control OnSize method is called normally. What do I wrong? I've read MSDN docs about CStatic control and there is no information that WM_SIZE message is never sent to a static control window. Sorry for my bad English.

• Eclipse on Ubuntu: Rectangles instead of Strings and some Java methods and classes

  after upgrading from Ubuntu 9.04. to 11.04 (new installation), I have weird problems with the Eclipse editor. With the Eclipse PyDev plugin, whenever I typ single quoted strings like 'bla', they appear as rectangles (both the quotes as well as the string). First I thought this was a problem with the PyDev plugin, but it also happens with Java and Scala Plugins. With Java, it happens, for example, when typing System.out.println("bla") and then "out" is shown as rectangles only. Weird is that for about half a second I see "System.out.println" and then the editor changes it to System.[][][].println (not really [] (here I used two brackets), it is shown as rectangles). This is very weird. I've never had this before with any Ubuntu, Java or Eclipse version. Currently, I use: Ubuntu 11.04. Eclipse 3.6 Java 1.6.0_25 The latest plugins for Python (2.1) and Scala (beta 5) where used. Eclipse and Ubuntu Terminal is set to UTF-8. The problem also happens when using KDE instead of Gnome. I doubt is has anything to do with Java as I use the same versions on older Ubuntu installations (10.04, 9.10, etc) at work. It does not happen with Netbeans. But I saw once error dialog message from the Update Manager where there were some rectangles in the error widget. Maybe this is the same problem Any ideas what could be wrong here and how to fix this? Eclipse is unusable but I need this for work and also for Scala and Python (the Eclipse plugins for those are very good now). Claus

I wanted to also be able to pass in a qr quoted variable to use in the comparison instead but the only way I can think of separating the comparisons is using an if/else block, like so: if (lc ref($params{whatever}) eq 'regexp') { #use =~ } else { #use eq } Is there a shorter way of doing it? Because of reasons beyond my control I'm using Perl 5.8.8 so I can't use the smart match operator. TIA
