  • SQL Server 2008 R2 CTP Installer crashes instantly after starting it

    Hi, I'm trying to update my existing SQL server 2008 SP1 installation with SQL Server 2008 R2 (November CTP). I started the setup and chose the upgrade option and after some time the installer told me to reboot. As soon as I confirmed with OK, it crashed. After rebooting I can't even run the setup file anymore. it crashes instantly without an error message. What's the recommended way of troubleshooting this? Thanks, Adrian

  • How can I manage SQL CE databases in SQL Server Management Studio?

    I created a SDF (SQL CE) database with Visual Studio 2008 (Add / New Item / Local Database). Is it possible to edit this database with SQL Server Management Studio? I tried to attach it but it only offered .mdf and attaching a .sdf file results in "failed to retrieve data for this request". If so, is it possible to create SDF files with Management Studio as well? Or are we stuck with the simple interface of the Visual Studio 2008 database manager?

    Our application tends to be running very slow recently. On debugging and tracing found out that the process is showing high cpu cycles and SQL Server shows high I/O activity. Can you please guide as to how it can be optimised? The application is now about an year old and the database file sizes are not very big or anything. The database is set to auto shrink. Its running on win2003, SQL Server 2005 and the application is a web application coded in c# i.e vs2005

    Hi there, I am currently building a webshop for my own where I want to increment the product-stock when the user fails to complete payment within 10 minutes after the customer placed the order. I want to gather information from this thread to make a design decision. I am using SQL Server 2008 and ASP.NET 3.5.     I'm developing Reporting services on VS2005 and have to connect to SQL Server 2008. The following Error occurs: "This server version is not supported. You must have Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 or later." I found on the net a patch for it, but it doesn't work (link to patch) "The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer Service because the program to be upgraded is missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program." what else can I do ? :(

  • "Access 2002 vs SQL Server 200*" as DB for sharepoint

    I work with a team that has a sharepoint site currently runnning and its lists are linked to an access DB. My question is really on the investment level, what would be the reasons to upgrade DB to sharepoint if only a few 100 users access this site. Is there a real benefit to replacing the DB with a version of SQL Server, escpecially if about to replace Access 2002 with 2007 some day. I know SQL Server can handle more memory and traffic for more users, but I'm looking for more reasons than that if there are any.

    I am planning on deploying a database to SQL Azure, so I cannot use the SQL CLR. However, I have a need to create an aggregate function -- in my case, I need to STUnion a bunch of Geography objects together. (Azure is expected to support Spatial by June.) Is there another way to accomplish this, without making use of the CLR, in a query? Or do I have to create a UDF that will take a table as a parameter and return the aggregate?

Say by joining to another table perhaps?
