  • How to make OSX application that just runs opens some file type and runs arbitrary Ruby code?

    It's trivial to make a program executable from shell - just put #!/usr/bin/ruby on top, chmod +x it and done. Unfortunately OSX won't let me associate file type with such scripts - it requires its .apps instead. This sort of distinction doesn't seem to exist on other operating systems. What's the simplest way of making such .app, which would merely execute some arbitrary Ruby code?

    i have a linux server (ubuntu os) to which i have access via ssh and wish to install avisynth on it. i know windows apps can be installed with the help of wine, but the problem is how i manage to install the app (avisynth) thru ssh, that is, without graphical intarface? can wine be somehow configured to manage such a case? what should i do to install avisynth via ssh? (am not insterested in other apps)

    Hey, I want to know if there's a few folks out there with experience in using admob for iphone apps. I've just started using it and have a problem. When I close an in app ad the actual ad itself has moved up 40 pixels and is mostly hidden behind the navigation bar. In addition all of my own content is shifted up 40 pixels. The addmob documentation is very limited so not much help there sadly.

For example, I have a value in a NSDictionary that can be either TRUE/FALSE/NULL mySTUser.current_user_following = [[results objectForKey:@"current_user_following"]boolValue]; When the value is NULL I get the following error *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '*** -[NSNull boolValue]: unrecognized selector sent to instance I would like to be able to handle the NULL case.

Unfortunately, the device in question has a Java API that's barely into the alpha stages right now, so it's pretty poor. What I need to do is essentially set up a replacement structure for the dispatch of MouseEvents. Does anyone know if there's a way in Swing to take a screen coordinate and find out what Swing component is displayed on top at that screen point?

I would like to know, in terms an idiot can understand, exactly what application lifetime means in ASP.NET (and therefore when you can expect application start and end events to run).     I'm trying to embed and then play back a .wav file in a C++/CLI app but all the examples I've seen which use PlaySound are in VB. I can't see how to get froma Stream^ to the LPCSTR which PlaySound requires: System::IO::Stream^ s = Assembly::GetExecutingAssembly()->GetManifestResourceStream ("Ping.wav"); LPCSTR buf = s->????; PlaySound(buf, NULL, SND_ASYNC|SND_MEMORY|SND_NOWAIT); I guess I need some sort of horrible .net memory conversion magic.

  • How do I move my git repo down level in the directory tree?

    I'm currently writing an app in C# using using Visual Studio. As such, VS2010 created a Solution directory with my project directories inside. So my Hierarchy is like this: Solution .git project1 project2 What I'd like to do is make it like this: Solution Project 1 .git Project 2 As of right now the files in the solution are tracked, except for the project 2 (so stuff like project.sln for example). Is there a way I can do this without rewriting the history? Thanks in advance.

    Hello Guys, We have been using PHP/MySQL for our web application which has been growing a lot, the database is around 4-5GB and one of the table is 2GB sometimes, hence slowing down whenever any queries to that table is called. Should we just try to optimize, or are we using MySQL above its limit? Will switching our web app to .NET/MSSQL resolve the issues? Thanks

    I'm interested in improving security of my TurboGears 2.2 application so that when user changes his password, it logs him out from all sessions and he must login again. When user changes password on browser 1, he must relogin on browser 2, too. Experiments show that this is not the case, especially if browser 2 had "remember me" enabled. It's standard quickstarted app using repoze.who. It seems maybe I need to change AuthTktCookiePlugin, but don't see a way to do it without much rewiring.

  • 'Timeout Expired' error against local SQL Express on only 2 LINQ Methods...

    I am going to sum up my problem first and then offer massive details and what I have already tried. Summary: I have an internal winform app that uses Linq 2 Sql to connect to a local SQL Express database. Each user has there own DB and the DB stay in sync through Merge Replication with a Central DB. All DB's are SQL 2005(sp2or3). We have been using this app for over 5 months now but recently our users are getting a Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. Detailed: The strange part is they get that in two differnt locations(2 differnt LINQ Methods) and only the first time they fire in a given time period(~5mins). One LINQ method is pulling all records that match a FK ID and then Manipulating them to form a Heirarchy View for a TreeView. The second is pulling all records that match a FK ID and dumping them into a DataGridView. The only things I can find in common with the 2 are that the first IS an IEnumerable and the second converts itself from IQueryable - IEnumerable - DataTable... I looked at the query's in Profiler and they 'seemed' normal. They are not very complicated querys. They are only pulling back 10 - 90 records, from one table. Any thoughts, suggestions, hints whatever would be greatly appreciated.   • Problem migrating membershipProvider functionality from mvc1 to mvc2

    I am migrating a web app in mvc1 to mvc2. When it came down to migrating my MembershipProvider authentication I keep getting errors that MembershipProvider and MembershipCreateStatus type cannot be found. I do have the reference to System.Web which to my understanding includes the Security reference, but when I examine the the object, those types do not appear. I am just getting familiar with mvc2, if anyone has any input on this it would be extremely appreciated.

  • How do I find the install directory of a Windows Service, using C#?

    I'm pretty sure that a Windows service gets C:\winnt (or similar) as its working directory when installed using InstallUtil.exe. Is there any way I can access, or otherwise capture (at install time), the directory from which the service was originally installed? At the moment I'm manually entering that into the app.exe.config file, but that's horribly manual and feels like a hack. Is there a programmatic way, either at run time or install time, to determine where the service was installed from?

  • disabling "block selection" on an iPhone

    I am building an app for iPhone that has javascript running in a webview. When the new auto-select block selection tool is used to select text, and the block is resized from the side, it makes my javascript freak out. Does anyone know a way to disable the copy/paste for block selection? I still need to be able to select text, just not using the big selection tool. Thanks
