• Custom UIButton + subviews = no events

  Basically I have a custom UIButton and this custom button contains subviews. If I add those subviews to my uibutton, then the button stops responding to event changes. I.e if I click on it it doesn't respond to the selector. I have everything set as userInteractionEnabled. I also tried adding touchbegan and this is working. If I remove those subviews, the UIButton works again. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

• Custom iPad keyboard backspace method last character crash

  I'm making a custom UI iPad keyboard app, and I'm doing something similar to this post for the backspace method: custom backspace button crashes iPhone app However, the app will always crash when I "backspace" for the last character in the UITextView. I know -substringToIndex won't work for an empty string, but I tried using a temporary mutable string then using -deleteCharactersInRange, and that crashed it too. I'm guessing the crash is due to me manually setting the -selectedRange property for the text view after deleting a character? But even if I do: textView.selectedRange = NSMakeRange(0, 0); the app will crash. Any ideas?

• Ruby on Rails when create method fails, render loses local variables

  Hey guys I have a simple create method with some validations and whenever the create method fails due to validation errors it re-renders the 'new' action. The problem is in my new action/view I have a local variable that is established in the action and passed to a partial to render some related information to what the user is creating. Now when my create action fails and I try to re-render the 'new' action I'm getting the always awesome undefined method `cover' for nil:NilClass error. What is the best way to handle re-establishing my action's local variables on a render instead of redirecting to the action again and the user losing the data they input?

• Generic Abstract Singleton with Custom Constructor in C#

  I want to write a generic singleton with an external constructor. In other words the constructor can be modified. I have 2 designs in my mind but I don't know whether they are practical or not. First one is to enforce derived class' constructor to be non-public but I do not know if there is a way of it? Second one is to use a delegate and call it inside the constructor? It isn't necessarily to be a constructor. The reason I chose custom constructor is doing some custom initializations. Any suggestions would be appreciated :)

  Do you know how if you drag an <mx:Label> or <s:Label> component into your Flex project, when you go to design mode you get this panel on the right to set its properties like text etc. I have a custom component that I can call with actionscript, or with mxml like this: <comps:TheComp field1="OK" field2="Yes" /> The component takes this input and uses it for its internal operation private var field1:String; private var field2:String; private function initializeit() { // component takes the input and lays it out as needed } When I go to design mode, I can see the component under custom components, I can drag it to the stage and see it, but can't set its values field1 and field visually on the right like a normal <s:Label> or <mx:Label> would have. Any idea how I can add that? Do I need to make it inherit something or anything else

  Hello everyone, I have a scenario in which I have multiple sources to bind to my model. For one, I have a view tied to a strongly-typed model, but this scenario also entails posting data to this view from a 3rd party site. Essentially, what I believe I am after in the custom model binding is to investigate the form values in the Request object within HTTPContext to see if I have a field such as "postedFirstName". If so, I want to bind that value instead of the textbox "FirstName" in my view. I've done a good bit of searching but have not find anything that exactly addresses such a scenario.   I have a class with a fields called "a". In the class I have a method and in the list of arguments of this method I also have "a". So, which "a" I will see inside of the method? Will it be the field or it will be the argument of the method? public class myClass { private String a; // Method which sets the value of the field "a". public void setA(String a) { a = a; } } By the way, there is a similar situation. A method has some local (for method) variables whose names coincide with the names of the fields. What will the "see" the method if I refer to such a method-local variable inside the method (the field or the local variable)?

• Errors in Decimal Calcs within def clean method?

  I'm attempting a few simple calculations in a def clean method following validation (basically spitting out a euro conversion of retrieved uk product price on the fly). I keep getting a TypeError. Full error reads: Cannot convert {'product': , 'invoice': , 'order_discount': Decimal("0.00"), 'order_price': {...}, 'order_adjust': None, 'order_value': None, 'DELETE': False, 'id': 92, 'quantity': 8} to Decimal so I guess django is passing through the entire cleaned_data form to Decimal method.   I have created a custom UITableViewCell, but when I dequeue the cell, sometimes it throws an NSInvalidArgumentException: [UITableViewCell nameLabel]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x3b4e7f0 Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '* -[UITableViewCell nameLabel]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x3b4e7f0' Now, my custom UITableViewCell does have an attribute nameLabel, so I am confused why it is throwing this error.   I need to write a custom setter method for a field (we'll call it foo) in my subclass of NSManagedObject. foo is defined in the data model and Xcode has autogenerated @property and @dynamic fields in the .h and .m files respectively. If I write my setter like this: - (void)setFoo: (NSObject *)inFoo { [super setFoo: inFoo]; [self updateStuff]; } then I get a compiler warning on the call to super. Alternatively, if I do this: - (void)setFoo: (NSObject *)inFoo { [super setValue: inFoo forKey: inFoo]; [self updateStuff]; } then I end up in an infinite loop. So what's the correct approach to write a custom setter for a subclass of NSManagedObject?

• what is the right 'rails' way to add a link_to a new custom method

  We're adding a new method 'delete_stuff' to the WidgetsController of a scaffolded app. in routes we added match 'widget/delete_stuff/:id' = 'widgets#delete_stuff' I CAN manually create html (GET) links like <a href="/widget/delete_stuff/<% widget.id %>">My Custom Delete Stuff</a> But that's bad on so many levels (uses GET instead of DELETE, doesn't permit a CONFIRM dialog, isnt DRY, etc) Problem is I can't figure out how to use the url helpers for a custom method... trying to do something like this: <% link_to 'DeleteStuff', @widget, :confirm => 'Are you sure?', :method => :delete %> But that just gets ignored when the html is rendered. I'm clearly missing something fundamental on how to use link_to, any help will be appreciated! Cheers, JP

  I have two views that I am loading, the first is a view with an MKMapView, the second has a table view. I would like to access a method in the first views controller, from the second view. I have been told to use the delegate for this, but I can't get it right. In my app delegate, I have set up added properties for the class of my first view. Then, in my second view, I try to access the first view using the delegate: MyAppDelegate *mainDelegate = (MyAppDelegate*) [[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate]; Then try: [mainDelegate.mapViewControllerClass myMethodToRun]; It seems to me that it should be calling the myMethodToRun method, which is in my map view. But, it does not work. What is wrong with what I am doing here? There must be a way to access a method of another view...

I guess when implementing static synchronized method, a lock belongs to Class object is used so that multiple static synchronized methods may degrade performance of the system. Am I right? or JVM use other mechanism to implement static synchronized method? What's the best practice if I have to implement multiple static synchronized methods in a class? Thank you all!   Is it possible to tell JUnit 3 to use additional method name prefix when looking up test method names? The goal is to have additional tests running locally that should not be run on continuous integration server. CI server doesn't use test suites, it look up for all classes which name ends with "Test" and execute all methods that begins with "test". The goal is to be able to locally run not only tests run by integration server, but also tests which method name starts with, for example "nocitest" or something like that. I don't mind having to organize tests into tests suite locally, since CI is just ignoring them.

• php require class call from inside method

  from my understanding, require pastes code into the calling php file. what if you were requiring from inside a method...it would paste the entire code/class inside the method, blocking the next statement in the method. eg. function test() { require 'pathtosomeclasscode'; somestatement; // any code after the require is blocked. } how do i get around this, to be able to require code where-ever, without it being pasted in that exact spot?   I'm using the php class XSLTProcessor to generate HTML from a xsl. Within the xsl, I'd like all my custom namespace elements to be processed by my own processor class. So for example: <xsl:for-each select="doc/elements/*"> <doc:renderElement element="." /> </xsl:for-each> This should call the method renderElement of an instance of my custom processor class. I know I can enable calling php functions by using the registerPHPFunctions function. However, this only seems to support calling static methods.

I'm working on an ASP.NET/C# app. I have 2 text boxes and I need to validate if the input text for both of them are not both null ex: if(string.IsNullOrEmpty(TextBox1.Text) && string.IsNullOrEmpty(TextBox2.Text) ) //FAIL!!! else // OK! that is, at least one txtBox has values I was planning on using a custom validator but it seems that the validation function only gets called when something is written on the textBox i'm using has the 'control to validate'. Now, that doesn't work for me since I want to show an error message when both text boxes are empty. Is there a way to make the validation function to be called with, for example a postback? Or is there any other better approach to this case than the custom validator? tks

  When i am inheriting from std::exception in order to define my own exception type, i need to override the what() method, which has the following signature: virtual const char* what() const throw(); This definitely looks strange to me, like if there were two method names in the signature. Is this some very specific syntax, like with pure virtual methods, e.g.: virtual int method() const = 0; or is this a feature, that could somehow be used in another context, too? In ASP.NET 4 one can create a custom provider for session. So, again should I implement a Custom Session-State Provider or should I just disable session (in Web.config)? Thanks! From the comments my question can be misunderstood. Hopefully this tidbit will help clarify: I don't want to store the session in the database. I want to store information in the database that you would typically store in the session. One reason why: I don't want to carry around a session on every page, especially if that page doesn't care about 90 percent of the information in the session

• Custom Extension not showing up wthin experimental instance

  I have a VSIX extension that I created which shows up in Visual Studio 2010 and works as designed. However I am attempting to build some Visual Studio automation which relies on this Extension and although its present in the project where I am building my automation package, when I run the package project, the visual studio experimental solution loads no problem, however when I look within the Extension Manager I do not see my registered Extension (even though it shows up within my Visual Studio project where I am building my extension. The extension is a custom shell for LightSwitch which may be a clue as to why it is not showing within my experimental instance of Visual Studio, not sure as I see other extensions I built and registered for LightSwitch showing up. Of course my issue is that when I attempt to load a solution that has a dependency on my LightSwitch extension, which otherwise loads fine outside of the Experimental Instance, fails due to the fact it can't locate my custom extension when I try to load the solution within my experimental solution.
