  • How to handle sharepoint web services exceptions

    Hi, I have developed an application of share point. I am using web services for that. the problem is that while working with my app sometimes i get some exceptions. like, Exception of type 'Microsoft.SharePoint.SoapServer.SoapServerException' was thrown. Stack Strace :: at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.ReadResponse(SoapClientMessage message, WebResponse response, Stream responseStream, Boolean asyncCall) at System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapHttpClientProtocol.Invoke(String methodName, Object[] parameters) at ......... my methods From this exception i cannot understand the main problem. While developing i can debug the code, but now my application is getting launched..i can get error log file from my client which contains this type of excetions. But how to catch exact error.??? Thanks.

    Though this might appear as a duplicate of Java Web Services , I would like to know Where to start and to continue.In the past, I have invested so much of time to find where to start but I wasn't able to. There are so many jargons and chaos (at least for me!) while reading the pages about web services. There are so many terms - like JAX-RPC, JAX-WS, Axis, Rest, Servlet as WebService, EJB's as Web Service and other terms that I don't know. Can this User group consolidate and give a highlevel overview of Java Web Services which is easy to understand and follow? I appreciate your kindness and thanks for your help.

    HTML5+CSS+javascript mobile app need to communicate with mysql database through REST Web services.I have a doubt in how html5 app consuming web services(Both storing and retrieving data in mysql database). Moreover, the app is not a native one. Phonegap is used to built this app to support in all OS available. The required rest web sevices ought to have JAVA in server coding part.Is there any possibility of having generalized rest web services which can able to consumed from all OS?   • DDD Infrastructure services

    Hello, I am learning DDD and I am a little bit lost in Infrastructure layer: As I understand, "all good DDD applications" should have 4 layers: Presentation, Application, Domain and Infrastructure. Database should be accessed using Repositories. Repository interfaces should be in Domain layer and repository implementation - in Infrastructure (reference http://stackoverflow.com/questions/693221/ddd-where-to-keep-domain-interfaces-the-infrastructure). Application, Domain and Infrastructure layer should/may have services (reference www.lostechies.com/blogs/jimmy_bogard/archive/2008/08/21/services-in-domain-driven-design.aspx), in example EmailService in Infrastructure layer which sends Email messages. BUT, inside Infrastructure layer we have repository implementations, which are used to access database. So, in this case, repositories are database services? What is the difference between Infrastructure service and repository? Thanks in advance!

    Hi , Currently I am looking at securing our web services. At the moment we are not using WCF so this is not an option. One approach I have seen and implemented locally fairly easily was the approach described in article: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/aspnet/wsFormsAuthentication.aspx Which describes adding a HttpModule which prompts for user credentials if the user browses to any pages (web services) which are contained in a services folder. Does anyone see any way that this security could fall down and could be bypassed etc. I'm really just trying to decide whether this is a valid approach to take or not? thanks

    I dont have any experience for web services. please give me some suggestion about the task below. the task is: users will send a txt file (size should less than 20K ) from a .NET application, I need to write a web services which runs by jboss 5.x to read this file and edit this file and send the file back to .NET UI to display the edited version. question is that if the txt file is just test string or binary string, are there any restriction of the string length? if it's binary string, can I need to use BinaryReader class to read it? or not need special reader to read it? (this could be a dumn question :P) what if the .NET application can save the file on either the .NET application server or some shared server location, send a download URL to web serivces, can web services download it and read it? JBoss will be run on Linux sever. After edit the file, how do I send it back? Thanks for your help!

  • Multiple Apps Possible via Launch Services, want to Specify Particular One

    Here's the issue: I have a list of App names that I want to launch. They do not include a path (e.g. {"VLC","Microsoft Word"}. I have two different copies of VLC in different directories. I would like Launch Services to ONLY open the one from /Applications/ and not EVER launch from /Applications/AnotherDirectory I want to get the path of these, and test to see what Launch Services wants to launch (via bash with "open" or applescript via "tell _ to launch" or [NSWorkspace launch...]) The only way that I have come up with to test the path of a file about to be launched by launch services is: Applescript: tell application "Finder" to return the (posix path of (path to application "VLC" as alias)) That works fine, but launches the app (which I don't want at all). Suggestions?

This will be a 5 day blog post in getting started with SSRS. Today will show the importance of SSRS in the business. Why is SSRS asked for in so many job openings? If you talk to an SSRS expert it’s very clear to them exactly why companies really need this invention and how it saves time and adds business value. You don’t have to be an SSRS expert to know its value or to start using it. For example you don’t have to be an airline pilot to know the usefulness of modern transportation. Even the people who don’t know how to run SSRS but need the reports can tell you why that is needed. This blog post will go into why SSRS is an important invention by showing how it improves the usage of information in your company. Before SSRS there has always been a need for a company to benefit from the use of its own information. Excel spreadsheets have been a popular way to do this for a long time. With SSRS you can still use this solution and gain many other options too. A friend of mine told me a story about doing database work in the 90s for a major company and how he wished SSRS was available back then. The Vice President of the marketing channel would often come to him just before an important meeting with the board of directors. He often needed to show how certain product sales were performing over time. All this information was in the database so it was my friend’s job to get the information out and organized into a medium the VP could use. This medium was usually Excel. The VP often had meetings all over the world where he showcased this Excel report. The solution to get the VP to him anywhere he was in the world was an Excel file attached to an e-mail. This worked pretty well but with some drawbacks. One time my friend sent the wrong file in the e-mail. A few minutes later my friend realized his mistake and sent another frantic e-mail to VP. This one was saying to ignore the last e-mail and use this newer one. Would the VP see the correct e-mail in time? If SSRS had been available, my friend could have created a solution that let the VP run the report any time he wished. The report could have been published to the company intranet where the VP could run it from any of the offices he happened to be traveling to that month. There is a fair amount of work up front to develop and publish the report, but once that work is completed, the report can be reused as many times as needed. My friend could even be on vacation for the first day of the monthly and the VP can get his real-time report. Not only could the report show the most recent data, the VP could choose to view reports of previous months with just a few clicks. The deployed SSRS is user friendly, and can also be configured to protect reports from being run by the wrong people.   • SQL SERVER – Unable to DELETE Project in Data Quality Projects (DQS)

    Here is the email which made me write this blog post. When I write a blog post I write keeping in mind that if the developer is not familiar with the concept he will attempt this on the development server. If due to any reason you attempt it on any other server than your personal server, developer should make sure to have complete confidence on his own expertise and understand the risk behind it.  Well, let us read the email which I received. I have modified it a bit to remove information related to organizational and individual. “I just read your blog post on Beginning DQS. I went ahead and followed every single screenshot and it worked fine. I was able to execute the DQS project successfully. However, the same blog post got me in trouble – a serious trouble. After first successful deployment I went ahead and created a few of my own knowledge base and projects. I played around a bit and then decided to get back to real work. Now we had deployed DQS on production server only, so experiment on production server. Now, when I got back to my work, I forgot to close all the windows. My manager found the window open and have seen my test projects. He has asked me to delete my experiments immediately and have said words which I cannot write to you. Here is the problem. I am not able to delete the project which I have created earlier. I am able to open it and play with it but the delete option is disabled and grayed out (see attached image). Now I believe there is nothing wrong with this project as it was just a test project. Would you please write to my manager that it is not harmful to leave that project there as it is? It is also not using any resources. I think he will believe you.” As I said this kind of email makes me uncomfortable. I do not want someone to execute anything on production server. I often write notes and disclaimer on my post when something is dangerous to execute on production server. However, if someone is not expert with SQL Server and attempts something new on production server, I think the major issue is here with the person (admin) who gave new developer permission to production server. This has to be carefully avoided. Here was my response to the individual. “I cannot write to your manager anything as he has not asked me anything. Honestly I believe he is correct in his behavior as you should have not executed anything on the production server without prior approval and testing on the development server. Any R&D must be done on local box or development box. I suggest you request your manager to prevent access to users who does not need access. If he is a good manager, he might have already implemented by now recent event. I also see your screenshot. Here is the issue: While you were playing with project, you might have closed the project half the way, without completing it. Due to the same reason it is locked. You can open and continue from the same place where you have left the project. If you do not need the project any more. Right click on it, click on unlock the project. This will enable the DELETE option and now you can delete the project. Next time, be safe out there. It may be dangerous to have admin access to production server when not needed.“ I have yet not heard from him but I believe he will take my words positively.   • C# System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowser Requires Flash to be Installed

    When I create a form and add a WebBrowser control to it and have it navigate to http://www.adobe.com/flashplatform the flash area says I need Adobe Flash Player installed. This is already installed in IE, but apparently not in the WebBrowser control. Is there are way to have the WebBrowser control run flash without having to manually go to the flash site and install. Flash is already installed the normal IE browser, just not the WebBrowser control in the forms app.

When I run the application a command window is also displayed as well as the application window. I’m currently using the HTML control, suggested by many sites, but I have a large form, with many tabs. Since I have to load up to 8 HTML controls, loading the form takes too long. Any help?
