• What's the best way to fill or paint around an image in Java?

  I have a set of images that I'm combining into a single image mosaic using JAI's MosaicDescriptor. Most of the images are the same size, but some are smaller. I'd like to fill in the missing space with white - by default, the MosaicDescriptor is using black. I tried setting the the double[] background parameter to { 255 }, and that fills in the missing space with white, but it also introduces some discoloration in some of the other full-sized images. I'm open to any method - there are probably many ways to do this, but the documentation is difficult to navigate. I am considering converting any smaller images to a BufferedImage and calling setRGB() on the empty areas (though I am unsure what to use for the scansize on the batch setRGB() method). My question is essentially: What is the best way to take an image (in JAI, or BufferedImage) and fill / add padding to a certain size? Is there a way to accomplish this in the MosaicDescriptor call without side-effects? • Call bindings for DependencyObject when DependencyProperites are changed

  Is there a way to notify a DependencyObject's bindinigs when the inner DependencyProperties have changed? My problem is that the two-way bindings for the DependencyProperties update the properties, but the binding for the class instance is not called, as apparently the entire object does not change. Any idea how I could call the bindings for the DependencyObject when the DependencyProperties are changed?

• Making Firefox render canvas text the same as CSS text

  I've been experimenting with the canvas tag and Javascript. I've made a page that takes Tweets from the Twitter public timeline and animates them into view. It works by using a canvas element in the background for the animation. When the animation is complete, it creates a div element with the same text over the top. I do this so that the tweet text is selectable and links are clickable. Now, in Safari, Chrome and even Opera, the canvas text and div text look almost exactly the same. Yet in Firefox, the size of the text is different enough to make it 'jump' at the point it changes into the div. Does anyone know how to make Firefox render the text the same on the canvas element and the div using CSS? Or is this a rendering inconsistency with the engine. I have put the page on my website if you want to see what I mean. Now for the code: The CSS I'm using for rendering the div contains: line-height: 21px; font-weight: 100; font-family: Georgia, "New Century Schoolbook", "Nimbus Roman No9 L", serif; font-size: 20px; For rendering on the canvas I'm using: this.context.font = this.scale + 'px Georgia'; this.context.fillStyle = "white"; this.context.strokeStyle = 'white'; this.context.fillText(this.text, 0, 0); this.context.strokeText(this.text, 0, 0); where this.scale is an animated scale factor that finishes at 20px exactly. So, to recap, I'm using the same font and ending up at the same px size, yet Firefox renders the text differently between Canvas and CSS.   I have a project that uses the moodle library. I had to change the URL from moodle.example.com to learn.example.com, due to a client request. I thought this would be an easy change, but alas moodle inserts all links and images in with the complete url instead of the relative url. Is it possible using mod-rewrite to point all requests to moodle.example.com to learn.example.com and maintain the query string? Example: I want a request to: http://moodle.example.com/course/view.php?id=2&topic=1 to go to http://learn.example.com/course/view.php?id=2&topic=1. Is this possible? Thanks, Josh

• Can't pass a single parameter to lambda function in MVVM Light Toolkit's RelayCommand

  I don't know if there's a difference between Josh Smith's and Laurent Bugnion's implementations of RelayCommand or not, but everywhere I've looked, it sounds like the Execute portion of RelayCommand can take 0 or 1 parameters. I've only been able to get it to work with 0. When I try something like: public class Test { public RelayCommand MyCommand { get; set; } public Test() { MyCommand = new RelayCommand((param) => SomeFunc(param)); } private void SomeFunc( object param) { } } I get the error: Delegate 'System.Action' does not take '1' arguments. Just to make sure I am not insane, I went to the definition of RelayCommand to make sure I didn't have some rogue implementation in my solution somewhere, but sure enough, it was just Action, and not Action<. What on earth am I missing here?

  I have an NSBezierPath and I want to draw in inset shadow (similar to Photoshop) inside the path. Is there anyway to do this? Also, I know you can -stroke paths, but can you stroke inside a path (similar to Stroke Inside in Photoshop)? Update This is the code I'm using. The first part makes a white shadow downwards. The second part draws the gray gradient. The third part draws the black inset shadow. Assume path is an NSBezierPath instance and that clr(...) returns an NSColor from a hex string. • CSS layout - Aligning two divs side by side

  Hello, I have a small problem. I am trying to align two divs side by side using CSS, however, I would like the center div to be positioned horizontally central in the page, I achieved this by using: #page-wrap { margin 0 auto; } Thats worked fine. The second div I would like positioned to the left side of the central page wrap but I can't manage to do this using floats although I'm sure it is possible. Maybe its best to show the example of what I am describing: I would like to push the red div up alongside the white div. Here is my current CSS concerning these two divs, sidebar being the red div and page-wrap being the white div: #sidebar { width: 200px; height: 400px; background: red; float: left; } #page-wrap { margin: 0 auto; width: 600px; background: #ffffff; height: 400px; } Any help would be appreciated.

• SQL Server Search Proper Names Full Text Index vs LIKE + SOUNDEX

  I have a database of names of people that has (currently) 35 million rows. I need to know what is the best method for quickly searching these names. The current system (not designed by me), simply has the first and last name columns indexed and uses "LIKE" queries with the additional option of using SOUNDEX (though I'm not sure this is actually used much). Performance has always been a problem with this system, and so currently the searches are limited to 200 results (which still takes too long to run). So, I have a few questions: Does full text index work well for proper names? If so, what is the best way to query proper names? (CONTAINS, FREETEXT, etc) Is there some other system (like Lucene.net) that would be better? Just for reference, I'm using Fluent NHibernate for data access, so methods that work will with that will be preferred. I'm using SQL Server 2008 currently. EDIT I want to add that I'm very interested in solutions that will deal with things like commonly misspelled names, eg 'smythe', 'smith', as well as first names, eg 'tomas', 'thomas'.   hi In blackberry i have created a horizontal field managar and added some buttons of small size to it to display toolbar at the bottom of the screen.But my problem is there is too much space between the 2 buttons.I have to reduce this space between 2 buttons so that i can manage to place atleast 6 buttons at the bottom of the screen.I am using the BFmsg.setMargin(305,0,0,40) statement. can anyone please help me on this. • How to get the "real" colors when exporting a GDI drawing to bmp

  Hi guys I'm developing a ASP.Net web handler that returns images making a in-memory System.Windows.Forms.Control and then exports the rendered control as a bitmap compressed to PNG, using the method DrawToBitmap(). The classes are fully working by now, except for a problem with the color assignment. By example, this is a Gauge generated by the web handler. The colors assigned to the inner parts of the gauge are red (#FF0000), yellow (#FFFF00) and green (#00FF00) but I only get a dully version of each color (#CB100F for red, #CCB70D for yellow and #04D50D for green). The background is a bmp file containing the color gradient. The color loss happens whether the background is a gradient as the sample, a black canvas, a white canvas, a transparent canvas, even when there is not a background set. With black background With transparent background With a white background Without a background set With pixel format in Format32bppArgb I've tried multiple bitmap color deeps, output formats, compression level, etc. but none of them seems to work. Any ideas? • Can FAXCOMEXLib and Windows Fax Service send a color fax?

  We are in the process of testing different options for sending faxes from within our C# code (receiving faxes is not necessary). One of those options is to use FAXCOMEXLib. Without surprise, I've had pretty good success sending out black & white faxes with FAXCOMExLib. But we also have a requirement to support sending color faxes. So I execute the following code (just a snippet): IFaxDocument oFaxDoc = new FaxDocumentClass(); oFaxDoc.Body = @"C:\Test\color_image.jpg"; oFaxDoc.ConnectedSubmit(m_oFaxServer); The image is 24bit color, 1728x2304, 204x196 dpi. For the most part, this process works (with a couple of small quirks) and the fax shows up in my "Windows Fax and Scan" outbox (I'm on Vista). The problem is the image has been dithered to a 1bit black & white image. I assume that what I see in "Windows Fax and Scan" is what is actually transmitted. So is there a way to send a color fax using this technology? Are we missing a configuration option somewhere to make it work?

• How Can I Add a New Command to a Control's Event

  Hi, thanks for taking a look at this question. I have been building an application (VB/WPF) following Josh Smith's example of an MVVM pattern: Click here to view My Views have Controls which trigger a Command upon an event, such as a button click and these are bound to properties in the ViewModel. My ViewModel exposes properties of type ICommand which invoke the appropriate methods. This has worked well, until now! I now want to use a Thumb Control to allow a user to move an object within a Canvas. I don't believe that the Thumb has a Command capability 'out of the box'. A Thumb raises a 'DragDelta' event when being moved. So my question is as follows: How do I extend a Control's capability to issue a Command upon an event please? I wish to issue a new Command, let's say 'onDragDelta' so that I can bind it to a property in my ViewModel just like my Buttons. Thank you very much

  Any way I can get this working? I have a block of code: <p><a href="http://foo.com"><span class="title">Title</span><br /><br /> Some text no greater than a couple of lines...</a></p> My styles are: p {color:#FFF;} a {color:#999;} .title {color:#FFF; font-weight:bold;} a:hover {color:#FF0;} My problem is as follows: I want the title to be white and bold and the body to be gray, but when you hover over any part, I want the title AND text to become yellow. However, in the above scenario, only the text becomes yellow because the span color (white) overrides the a:hover. If I add: .title:hover {color:#FF0;} then the title color only changes if I specifically hover over the title. It also doesn't change the text to yellow, as it is now a span hover... Any way I can resolve this, even if it requires a little JS? Thanks!

• Is it possible to resize a SpriteAsset without adding it to the display list?

  Hi guys, I have an embedded image asset (with a scale9 grid), and I'm trying to get the bitmapdata when it's resized, but I can't seem to do this without adding it to the display list. I try this: spriteAsset.setActualSize(w,h); spriteAsset.width = w; bmd.draw(spriteAsset); But when I then draw out the bitmapdata with graphics.beginBitmapFill(), I just get the original un-stretched image. Any pointers? Or do I need to take 9 separate BitmapData images and make 9 separate bitmap fills? Cheers, -Josh

  hi everyone I have been wrestling with a latex table for far too long. I need a table that has has centered headers, and body cells that contain text that may wrap around. Because of the wrap-around requirement, i'm using p{xxx} instead of l for specifying cell widths. The problem this causes is that cell contents are not left justified, so the look like spaced-out junk. To fix this problem I'm using \flushleft for each cell. This does left justify contents, but puts in a ton of white space above and below the contents of the cell. • Drawing a relative line in C#

  Guys, I know this is going to turn out to be a simple answer, but I can't seem to figure it out. I have a C# Winform application that I am trying to build. I am trying to draw a white line 60 pixels above the bottom of the form. I am using this code: private void MainForm_Paint(object sender, PaintEventArgs e) { e.Graphics.DrawLine(Pens.White, 10, this.Height-60, 505, this.Height-60); } Simple enough, however no line is drawn. After some debugging, I figured out that it IS drawing the line, but it is drawing it outside my form. If I change the -60 to -175, then I can see it at the bottom of my form. This would solve my problem, except as my form's height changes, the line draws closer and closer to the bottom of my form until eventually, its off the form again. What am I doing wrong? Am I using the wrong graphics unit? Or is there a more complex calculation I need to do to determine 60 pixels from the bottom of my form?

• Reduce size and change text color of the bootstrap-datepicker field

  Programing an Android application based on HTML5/JQuery launching in a web view, I'm using the Eternicode's bootstrap-datepicker. BTW I'm using Jquery 1.9.1 and Bootstrap 2.3.2 with bootstrap-responsive. The picker is working fine but unfortunately I get yet two issues which I was not able to solve at this time: the picker theme is not respected and some dates are not readable (see the attached picture). Some there is css conflict such as the datepicker's font is displayed white on white background. I'm not able to reduce the size of the date picker field such as it holds on alone row. • asp.net calendar control appears below textfield

However, when I click the image button, the calendar controls is displayed "below" the textfield that it is suppoed to populate. How can I get the control to appear on the right side of the textfield? • What is the accepted pattern for WPF commanding in MVVM?

  I'm working on a WPF app and I understand the command pattern pretty well, but I've found that there are several different implementations of the command pattern for MVVM. There's Josh Smith's implementation in his WPF sample app, the DelegateCommand from Prism, and the CommandBindings implementation. My question is, what is the generally accepted best practice for using commands with MVVM? My application uses Prism so DelegateCommand is available to us. The devs on my team are arguing about which approach is "best." Some don't like the numerous .cs files generated for each command, others prefer that everything be wired up via CommandBindings. I'm at a loss. Can anyone shed some light?
