  • What are the main differences between SRV records and TXT records?

    Hi there, I'm trying to consolidate domain names for the servers I look after to just use one panel instead of 3 or 4, and one thing stopping me is that the provider I originally wanted to move them to only lets me the following kinds of records: A MX NS CNAME TXT The first four I understand, but I'm not sure about the relationship (if any) between SRV records and TXT records. Can I use TXT records in the place of SRV records? They both seem to be general text records to just point at a particular server without needing to specify a particular protocol, so it doesn't sound like a totally unreasonable assumption, but I'd rather check here before I break something. If I can only set the above records, does that mean I'm essentially unable to so any SRC record redirecting? Thanks!

    The other day my home adsl modem/router (dwg 684t in this case) died. A guy from the telecom company came, brought another so no problem in day to day operation, but he also left this one. Now, I'm interested ... it didn't fall, it wasn't electrocuted ... but it just doesn't work. What could be the problem ? Can they be fixed ? Is it worth it (in which case I would have two which is always nice) ... What are the usual problems that occur with them ? In this case, I can connect to the router, I can see its settings, I just can't connect to the internet. With the new one everything works. Weird. Edit: Additional question: Can those things be fixed ? I mean, is it worth giving it to a local tinker for him to experiment on it ? I'm not looking for a definite opinion, just your personal advice ... (although in the end I think I'm gonna archive it in the "cylinder register")

  • Unable to get to main screen and safe mode doesn't help.

    It is my friends computer so I am not very familiar with it, I am unable to get it to start. I can get to the logon screen but after entering the password there is an error (something to do with Roxio) and only the background loads. No Start menu, Taskbar or icons. If I boot it in safe mode it gets stuck on a black screen and don't even get the command prompt. I am confident that If I could get to the menu to edit startup programs then I could fix the problem... any Ideas?

  • How to set up Asus RT-N66U in bridge mode with wired connection to main router?

    I have a wired router (TP-Link RT-860) in the basement where the cable service comes in. Eight wired ethernet connections span two buildings. I currently have a Linksys wireless router set up in bridge mode, but its signal doesn't span the whole area. I have purchased an Asus RT-N66U to replace it, but I can't figure out how to set it up in bridge mode. Does anyone know if this is possible? Second question: Would there be any advantage in installing DD-WRT on the Asus?

    I run a memory-hungry process (mkcromfs) which consumes more memory than I have physical memory on my latop, so it is paging and swappin and thrashing all the time and loadavg is about 2 (compcache is already in use with usual swap partition as well), but slowly moving forward (Although I afraid it will finally try to allocate 2GB and crash draining 2 days of thrashing). When I want to use the laptop for something else, I stop the process, start X server, firefox and other programs. The problem is that when I start Firefox the loadavg jumps to 10 and the system becomes almost unresponsive at all (long time to turn on/off caps lock, slow mouse cursor position updates, slow switching from X server to Linux console, slow login). The stopped mkcromfs still holds a lot of memory (464.8 MiB and slowly falling) and moves it to swap only when more memory is needed for some other program, which results in a great slowdown. How to tell the Linux to swap out this process entirely (e.g. I'm not intending to resume it in short term), possibly waking from swap other data? Also it will be useful to be able to specify the exact swap device to swap the given process out.

  • How do I set my main monitor to a higher resolution?

    My laptop monitor's native resolution is 1280x800 and it just isnt big enough for me. I tried to set the resolution higher, but my graphics card only showed options upto 1280x800, and I figured that was the max res my card would allow. I found a monitor out on the street a few days ago and its native resolution is 1024x768. I have been playing around with it a bit. I was looking under the resolutions for it, and I can set it upto 1400x1050, so apparently my card allows for more than 1280x800, so why can't I set my laptop monitor to higher?

  • Loop through all cells in Xceed DataGrid for WPF?

    I am changing the background color of the cells when the user has made an edit. I would like to return all cells to normal colors when the changes are saved (or reverted). It's easy enough to set the cell's original background color (as stored in the parent row). But I can't figure out how to loop through all the cells in the table to reset them. I found an article in the Xceed Knowledge Base called "How to iterate through the grid's rows"... which you would think would be perfect, right? Wrong; the properties (or methods) like .DataRows, .FixedHeaderRows, etc. mentioned in the article are from an older/defunct Xceed product. This forum thread recommends using the DataGrid's .Items property, which in my case returns a collection of System.Data.DataRowViews... but I can't find any way to cast that (or any of its related elements) up to the Xceed.Wpf.DataGrid.DataCells I need to change the background color. In short, how do I loop through the rows and cells so I can reset the background property?

I would like to optimise this as far as possible, at minimum inconvenience to end users, who will probably use it as an uncompiled collection of Python scripts, and will be using Windows, Mac, and (mainly Ubuntu) Linux. It is currently written in Python with a dash of NumPy, and I've included the code below. Is there a solution which would be reasonably fast which would not require compilation? This would seem to be the easiest way to maintain platform-independence. If using something like Pyrex, which does require compilation, is there an easy way to bundle many modules and have Python choose between them depending on detected OS and Python version? Is there an easy way to build the collection of modules without needing access to every system with every version of Python? Does one method lend itself particularly to multi-processor optimisation?   • How does loop address alignment affect the speed on Intel x86_64?

    I'm seeing 15% performance degradation of the same C++ code compiled to exactly same machine instructions but located on differently aligned addresses. When my tiny main loop starts at 0x415220 it's faster then when it is at 0x415250. I'm running this on Intel Core2 Duo. I use gcc 4.4.5 on x86_64 Ubuntu. Can anybody explain the cause of slowdown and how I can force gcc to optimally align the loop?     In a Python program I'm writing I've compared using a for loop and increment variables versus list comprehension with map(itemgetter) and len() when counting entries in dictionaries which are in a list. It takes the same time using a each method. Am I doing something wrong or is there a better approach?   • Which is faster for large "for" loop: function call or inline coding?

    Hi, I have programmed an embedded software (using C of course) and now I'm considering ways to improve the running time of the system. The most important single module in my system is one very large nested for loop module. That module consists of two nested for loops that loops max 122500 times. That's not very much yet, but the problem is that inside that nested for loop I have a function call to a function that is in another source file. That specific function consists mostly of two another nested for loops which loops always 22500 times. So now I have to make a function call 122500 times. I have made that function that is to be called a lot lighter and shorter (yet still works as it should) and now I started to think that would it be faster to rip off that function call and write that process directly inside those first two for loops? The processor in that system is ARM7TDMI and its frequency is 55MHz. The system itself isn't very time critical so it doesn't have to be real time capable. However the faster it can process its duties the better. Also would it be also faster to use while loops instead of fors? And any piece of advice about how to improve the running time is appreciated. -zaplec

What is the possible reason for this?

  • How can I use multi-threading with a "for" or "foreach" loop?

    I am trying to run the for loop in a separate thread so that the UI should be responsive and the progress bar is visible. The problem is that I don't know how to do that :). In this code, the process starts in a separate thread, but the next part of the code is executed at the same time. The messageBox is displayed and the results are never returned (e.g. the listbox's selected index property is never set). It doesn't work even if I use, "taskEx.delay()".     It took me many hours to narrow down a problem in some code to this reproducible error, which seems to me like a bug in AVM2. Can anyone shed light on why this is occurring or how to fix it? When the value at index 1 is deleted and a value is subsequently set at index 0, the non-existent (undefined) value at index 1 will now show up in a foreach loop. I have only been able to produce this outcome with index 1 and 0 (not any other n and n-1).     hi, I'm reusing the same ArrayList in a for loop, and I use for loop results = new ArrayList<Integer>(); experts = new ArrayList<Integer>(); output = new ArrayList<String>(); .... to create new ones. I guess this is wrong, because I'm allocating new memory. Is this correct ? If yes, how can I empty them ? Added: another example I'm creating new variables each time I call this method. Is this good practice ? I mean to create new precision, relevantFound.. etc ?     When running the following Perl code ... use Data::Traverse qw(traverse); use warnings; my $struct = [ 1, 2, { foo => 42 }, [ 3, 4, [ 5, 6, { bar => 43 } ] ], 7, 8 ]; traverse { print "$a => $b\n" if /HASH/ } $struct; ... the warning Name "main::[ab]" used only once: possible typo is given. Since the use of $a and $b is clearly not a typo in this case I want to get rid of the warning. How do I do that while still using warnings?
