Hi, I keep getting this error: MySQL said: #1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 'INSERT INTO books.book(isbn10,isbn13,title,edition,author_f_name,author_m_na' at line 15 with this query: USE books; DROP TABLE IF EXISTS book; CREATE TABLE `books`.`book`( `book_id` INT UNSIGNED NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY, `isbn10` VARCHAR(15) NOT NULL, `isbn13` VARCHAR(15) NOT NULL, `title` VARCHAR(50) NOT NULL, `edition` VARCHAR(50) NOT NULL, `author_f_name` VARCHAR(50) NOT NULL, `author_m_name` VARCHAR(50) NOT NULL, `author_l_name` VARCHAR(50) NOT NULL, `cond` ENUM('as new','very good','good','fair','poor') NOT NULL, `price` DECIMAL(8,2) NOT NULL, `genre` VARCHAR(50) NOT NULL, `quantity` INT NOT NULL) INSERT INTO books.book(isbn10,isbn13,title,edition,author_f_name,author_m_name,author_l_name,cond,price,genre,quantity)** VALUES ('0136061699','978-0136061694','Software Engineering: Theory and Practice','4','Shari','Lawrence','Pfleeger','very good','50','Computing','2'); Any idea what the problem is?

  • Hibernate MySQL transaction configuration issue

    - by James
I'm having trouble starting a transaction with Hibernate and MySQL while running in JUnit. I'm getting a HibernateException which states: "No TransactionManagerLookup specified". I believe this error is because I don't have a proper configuration setting for hibernate.transaction.manager_lookup_class. I see that under the namespace of org.hibernate.transaction there are quite a few different lookup classes that I could use. All of the documentation that I could find on these was very vague. My question is what is the appropriate one for MySQL?

  • trying to connect mysql with vb.net

    - by user225269
I've found this at connection strings.com http://connectionstrings.com/mysql Do I need to download connector-net from this site: http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/net/ I recycled the code that I used in connecting vb.net with ms sql: Imports system.data.sqlclient idnum = TextBox1.Text lname = TextBox2.Text fname = TextBox3.Text skul = TextBox4.Text Using sqlcon As New SqlConnection("Server=localhost;Port=3306;Database=testing;Uid=root;Pwd=nitoryolai123$%^;") sqlcon.Open() Dim sqlcom As New SqlCommand() sqlcom.Connection = sqlcon sqlcom.CommandText = "INSERT INTO [student](ID, LASTNAME, FIRSTNAME, SCHOOL) VALUES (@ParameterID, @ParameterLastName, @ParameterFirstName, @ParameterSchool)" sqlcom.Parameters.AddWithValue("@ParameterID", TextBox1.Text) sqlcom.Parameters.AddWithValue("@ParameterLastName", TextBox2.Text) sqlcom.Parameters.AddWithValue("@ParameterFirstName", TextBox3.Text) sqlcom.Parameters.AddWithValue("@ParameterSchool", TextBox4.Text) sqlcom.ExecuteNonQuery() End Using But I get this error: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) Please help, what solutions would you recommend to this problem?

  • 2nd instance of mysql closes/doesnt start no warnings/errors?

    - by acidzombie24
I have an external HD and i'd like to run a 2nd mysql instance on it. I used the windows installer to install/configure mysqld as a service on windows7. I took the my.ini from C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\my.ini Then edited the port (client and mysqld), datadir and innodb_data_home_dir. After running this command "C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\bin\mysqld" --defaults-file="f:/dev/my.ini" I found an error which was all about the innodb_data_home_dir directory not existing. After that I ran the command again. Mysqld simply starts up for a second then immediately closes. I see no message in my command prompt. I know this command line args are correct as i see the mysqld service using the same one except a different my.ini path. Also it did tell me about the directory not existing so i know it is reading the new ini file. How do i figure out why this 2nd instance of mysqld is closing? How do i get 2 instance running? I'm using v 5.5

  • Mysql results sorted by list which is unique for each user

    - by ADAM
Ive got a table of thousands of products and 50 or so authenticated users. These users all show the products on their own web sites and they all require the ability to have them ordered differently. Im guesing i need some kind of seperate table for the orders which contains the product_id, user_id and order column? How do i do this the most efficiently in mysql so as to be very fast, and not slow down if i get millions of products in the database. Is it even wise to do it in mysql or should i be using some kind of other index like solr/lucene? My Product table is called "products" My User table is called "users" A good example of the functionality i need is google search where you can order/supress the results if you are logged in. edit: the product results will be paginated and the users have the authority to edit the products, so its not just ready only

  • XML creation using DOM and MYSQL

    - by dbomb101
    I am trying to create a XML document from information extracted from a mysql table. I am using a tutorial to accomplish this http://www.tonymarston.net/php-mysql/dom.html#a5 what I want to do is to create each element separately, instead of creating them all at once as shown in the tutorial. In order to do that I am trying to place the specific field name into the foreach loop below, any help would be greatly appreciated. foreach ($row as where fieldname should go => $row['artistname']) { $artval = $doc->createTextNode($row['artistname']); $artval = $chil->appendChild($val); }

  • Strange Exception on getGeneratedKeys() with JDBC for MySQL 5.1

    - by sweeney
Hello, I'm using JDBC to insert a row into a MYSQL database. I build a parameterized command, execute it and attempt to retrieve the auto generated keys as follows: String sql = "INSERT IGNORE INTO `users` (`email`, `pass-hash`) VALUES (?, ?)"; Connection conn = SQLAccess.getConnection(); PreparedStatement ps = conn.prepareStatement(sql); ps.setString(1, login); ps.setString(2, passHash); int count = ps.executeUpdate(); if (count == 1) { ResultSet rs = ps.getGeneratedKeys(); rs.next(); //some more stuff... } For some reason, I get the following SQLException on the line containing ResultSet rs = ps.getGeneratedKeys();: !Statement.Generated Keys Not Requested! Any thoughts? When I run the same query, as generated by running the app through the debugger, in a MySQL browser it executes without incident. Thanks, brian

  • jQuery Connected Sortable Lists, Save Order to MySQL

    - by user300999
Hello Hoping that using something like this demo it is possible to drag items within and between two columns, and update their order either live or with a "save" button to MySQL. Point being that you can make changes and return to the page later to view or update your ordering. http://pilotmade.com/draggable2.html Doing it for just one column is fine, but when I try to pass the order of both columns, the issue seems to be passing multiple serialized arrays with jQuery to a PHP/MySQL update script. Any insight would be much appreciated.

  • Turn RSS into array, explode the 'description' and insert words into MySQL table one per row

    - by K.I
I have only recently gotten into php and MySQL and I want to take an RSS feed, turn it into an array, take only the description part of the XML, explode it and insert it into a table on a MySQL base. I feel like this should be possible, but is a little over my head right now. I tried using magpie as a parser, but if possible I want to do it in simpler php code. The result I am looking for would take a description "This is a cat" and insert it into a table with two fields ID term 1 This 2 is 3 a 4 cat I've been stumped on this for a couple days. Any help would be great.

  • MySQL vs PHP when retrieving a random item

    - by andufo
Hi, which is more efficient (when managing over 100K records): A. Mysql SELECT * FROM user ORDER BY RAND(); of course, after that i would already have all the fields from that record. B. PHP use memcached to have $cache_array hold all the data from "SELECT id_user FROM user ORDER BY id_user" for 1 hour or so... and then: $id = array_rand($cache_array); of course, after that i have to make a MYSQL call with: SELECT * FROM user WHERE id_user = $id; so... which is more efficient? A or B?

  • MySQL and Matlab

    - by Shaihi
I want to interact with a MySQL database from Matlab. I found a mysql "library" for matlab here and the same on mathworks. I followed the instructions to compile the library and the compilation seems to be successful. I get a mex32 file at the end. Only, the instructions on the first page refer to a Dll that I need to use (I guess that a Dll was supposed to be generated). I am not familiar with the mex compiler or with compiling external modules for Matlab. Am I missing something trivial? Where is the Dll supposed to be? Thanks.

  • mysql query performance help

    - by Stefano
    Hi I have a quite large table storing words contained in email messages mysql> explain t_message_words; +----------------+---------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +----------------+---------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | mwr_key | int(11) | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment | | mwr_message_id | int(11) | NO | MUL | NULL | | | mwr_word_id | int(11) | NO | MUL | NULL | | | mwr_count | int(11) | NO | | 0 | | +----------------+---------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ table contains about 100M rows mwr_message_id is a FK to messages table mwr_word_id is a FK to words table mwr_count is the number of occurrencies of word mwr_word_id in message mwr_message_id To calculate most used words, I use the following query SELECT SUM(mwr_count) AS word_count, mwr_word_id FROM t_message_words GROUP BY mwr_word_id ORDER BY word_count DESC LIMIT 100; that runs almost forever (more than half an hour on the test server) mysql> show processlist; +----+------+----------------+--------+---------+------+----------------------+----------------------------------------------------- | Id | User | Host | db | Command | Time | State | Info +----+------+----------------+--------+---------+------+----------------------+----------------------------------------------------- processlist | 41 | root | localhost:3148 | tst_db | Query | 1955 | Copying to tmp table | SELECT SUM(mwr_count) AS word_count, mwr_word_id FROM t_message_words GROUP BY mwr_word_id | +----+------+----------------+--------+---------+------+----------------------+----------------------------------------------------- 3 rows in set (0.00 sec) Is there anything I can do to "speed up" the query (apart from adding more ram, more cpu, faster disks)? thank you in advance stefano
