  • Weak References and Disposable objects.

    - by Steve Sheldon
In C# it is possible to create weak references to objects as described here: WeakReference Class In .net some classes also implement the IDisposable interface. Calling the Dispose method of this interface is performed to manually dispose of any managed or unmanaged resources currently being held onto. An example might be a Bitmap object or class. If I assign an object that implements IDisposable to a weak reference, will Dispose be called if the weak reference collects the object?

  • Silverlight webservice

    - by pistacchio
Hi, Can webservices be accessed by Silverlight 3? On VisualStudio, a Silverlight project doesn't allow me to add a "web reference" but only a "web service reference" that is for WCF and not "normal" webservices. Any help? Thanks

    - by Robert W
I have this scenario where a webservice method I'm consuming in C# returns a Business object, when calling the webservice method with the following code I get the exception "Unable to cast object of type ContactInfo to type ContactInfo" in the reference.cs class of the web reference Code: ContactInfo contactInfo = new ContactInfo(); Contact contact = new Contact(); contactInfo = contact.Load(this.ContactID.Value); Any help would be much appreciated.

  • WCF : FaultContract(typeof(ExceptionDetail)) issue

    - by jitus
I have put the attribute [FaultContract(typeof(ExceptionDetail))] for my operation contract. Please check other error and warning messages for details." But when I comment out the FaultContract Attribute, I am able to add the wcf service reference th' my client app. Would appreciate if somebody can help me solve this mystery. Thanks

  • Strong Signing, and Updating A Referencing Assembly

    - by Alan
Hi, I have two, third party assemblies: Foo.dll and ReferencesFoo.dll As noted, ReferencesFoo.dll is an assembly that has a reference to Foo.dll For my application, I need to resign these assemblies. I use ildasm/ilasm in combination along with a signing key to resign them, however, ReferencesFoo.dll still contains (in it's manifest?) the reference to the Foo.dll old public key and public key token. So, how do I sign both dll's with my key, and update the references in ReferencesFoo.dll without getting the source code and recompiling?

  • AJAX - ASP.NET - Timer delay problem

    - by Julian
Hi, I'm trying to make an webapplication where you see an Ajax countdown timer. Whenever I push a button the countdown should go back to 30 and keep counting down. Now the problem is whenever I push the button the timer keeps counting down for a second or 2 and most of the time after that the timer keeps standing on 30 for to long. WebForm code: <asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server"> <ContentTemplate> <asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text="geen verbinding"></asp:Label> <br /> <asp:Button ID="Button1" runat="server" onclick="Button1_Click" Text="Button" /> <br /> </ContentTemplate> <Triggers> <asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="Timer1" EventName="Tick" /> </Triggers> </asp:UpdatePanel> <asp:Timer ID="Timer1" runat="server" Interval="1000" ontick="Timer1_Tick"> </asp:Timer> </form> Code Behind: static int timer = 30; protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { Label1.Text = timer.ToString(); } protected void Timer1_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e) { timer--; } protected void Button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { timer = 30; } Hope somebody knows what the problem is and if there is anyway to fix this. Thanks in advance!

  • GAE Datastore: persisting referenced objects

    - by David
Two "I'm sorries" to begin with: 1) I've looked for a solution (here, and elsewhere), and couldn't find the answer. 2) English is not my mother tongue, so I may have some typos and the sort - please ignore them. To the point: I am trying to persist Java objects to the GAE datastore. I am not sure as to how to persist object having ("non-trivial") referenced object. That is, assume I have the following. public class Father { String name; int age; Vector<Child> offsprings; //this is what I call "non-trivial" reference //ctor, getters, setters... } public class Child { String name; int age; Father father; //this is what I call "non-trivial" reference //ctor, getters, setters... } The name field is unique in each type domain, and is considered a Primary-Key. In order to persist the "trivial" (String, int) fields, all I need is to add the correct annotation. So far so good. However, I don't understand how should I persist the home-brewed (Child, Father) types referenced. Should I: Convert each such reference to hold the Primary-Key (a name String, in this example) instead of the "actual" object. So, Vector<Child> offsprings; becomes Vector<String> offspringsNames; ? If that is the case, how do I handle the object at run-time? Do I just query for the Primary-Key from Class.getName, to retrieve the refrenced objects? Convert each such reference to hold the actual Key provided to me by the Datastore upon the proper put() operation? So, Vector<Child> offsprings; becomes Vector<Key> offspringsHashKeys; ? I would very much appreciate all kinds of comments. I have read ALL the offical relevant GAE docs/example. Throughout, they always persist "trivial" references, natively supported by the Datastore (e.g. in the Guestbook example, only Strings, and Longs). Many thanks, David

  • Version control: delete branches after merging?

    - by Nathan Long
When you branch some code, finish working with the branch, and merge it back to the trunk, what do you do with the branch? Delete it from the repository? Keep it for reference? It seems like you would keep it for reference, but I imagine the /branches directory could get pretty cluttered. (If this isn't something people generally agree on, please comment and I'll make it a community wiki.)

  • jQuery Tablesorter - column not sorting alphabetically

    - by McGirl
I'm not sure what's going wrong here. This is the page: http://www.utexas.edu/ssw/cswr/projects/project-list/ The first column sorts, but it isn't returning data in the correct order (alphabetical). The table itself is being generated by a custom PHP function that pulls info from a WordPress database. I thought that might be the issue, but as you can see the fourth column (End Date) sorts correctly. I also thought it might be the links in the first column that were messing things up, but adding the text-extraction code from this page broke the sorting altogether. This is the jQuery code I'm current using to call Tablesorter: <script type="text/javascript" id="js"> jQuery(document).ready(function($) { $(document).ready(function() { // call the tablesorter plugin, the magic happens in the markup $("#projectTable").tablesorter({ // pass the headers argument and assing a object //debug: true, //sortList: [[0,0]], headers: { 0: { // set the column to sort as text sorter: 'text', }, // assign the secound column (we start counting zero) 1: { // disable it by setting the property sorter to false sorter: false, }, // assign the third column (we start counting zero) 2: { // disable it by setting the property sorter to false sorter: false }, 3: { sorter:'digit' } } }); // Works only with plugin modification $("#projectTable").bind("sortStart",function(e) { if( $(e.target).hasClass('header') ) { $("#overlay").show(); } }).bind("sortEnd",function(e) { if( $(e.target).hasClass('header') ) { $("#overlay").hide(); } }); }); }); </script> Thanks for your help!

  • Adding time to a timer/counter

    - by BoneStarr
I've looked all over the web and everyone can teach you how to make a timer for your game or a countdown, but I can't seem to find out how to add time to an already counting timer. So here is my counter class: package { import flash.display.MovieClip; import flash.display.Stage; import flash.text.TextField; import flash.events.Event; import flash.utils.Timer; import flash.events.TimerEvent; public class Score extends MovieClip { public var second:Number = 0; public var timer:Timer = new Timer(100); private var stageRef:Stage; public function Score(stageRef:Stage) { x = 560.95; y = 31.35; this.stageRef = stageRef; timer.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, scoreTimer); timer.start(); } public function scoreTimer(evt:TimerEvent):void { second += 1; scoreDisplay.text = String("Score: " +second); } That works without any issues or problems and just keeps counting upwards at a speed of 100ms, what I want to know is how to add say 30 seconds if something happens in my game, say you kill an enemy for example. Please help!

  • Delphi memory management design strategies : Object or Interface ?

    - by Pierre-Jean Coudert
Regarding Delphi memory management, what are your design strategies ? What are the use cases where you prefer to create and release Objects manually ? What are the uses cases where Interfaces, InterfacedObjects, and their reference counting mechanism will be prefered ? Do you have identified some traps or difficulties with reference counted objects ? Thanks for sharing your experience here.

  • Javascript objects: get parent

    - by Dänu
Hey Guys I got some question about nested javascript objects (is it me, google or is javascript quite poorly documented?). Now, I got the following (nested) object: obj: { subObj: { 'hello world' } }; next thing I do is to reference the subobject like this: var s = obj.subObj; now what I would like to do, is to get a reference to the object obj out of the variable s. Something like: var o = s.parent; Is this somehow possible?

  • How to access static members in a Velocity template?

    - by matt b
I'm not sure if there is a way to do this in Velocity or not: I have a User POJO which a property named Status, which looks like an enum (but it is not, since I am stuck on Java 1.4), the definition looks something like this: public class User { // default status to User private Status status = Status.USER; public void setStatus(Status status) { this.status = status; } public Status getStatus() { return status; } And Status is a static inner class: public static final class Status { private String statusString; private Status(String statusString) { this.statusString = statusString; } public final static Status USER = new Status("user"); public final static Status ADMIN = new Status("admin"); public final static Status STATUS_X = new Status("blah"); //.equals() and .hashCode() implemented as well } With this pattern, a user status can easily be tested in a conditional such as if(User.Status.ADMIN.equals(user.getStatus())) ... ... without having to reference any constants for the status ID, any magic numbers, etc. However, I can't figure out how to test these conditionals in my Velocity template with VTL. I'd like to just print a simple string based upon the user's status, such as: Welcome <b>${user.name}</b>! <br/> <br/> #if($user.status == com.company.blah.User.Status.USER) You are a regular user #elseif($user.status == com.company.blah.User.Status.ADMIN) You are an administrator #etc... #end But this throws an Exception that looks like org.apache.velocity.exception.ParseErrorException: Encountered "User" at webpages/include/dashboard.inc[line 10, column 21] Was expecting one of: "[" ... From the VTL User Guide, there is no mention of accessing a Java class/static member directly in VTL, it appears that the right hand side (RHS) of a conditional can only be a number literal, string literal, property reference, or method reference. So is there any way that I can access static Java properties/references in a Velocity template? I'm aware that as a workaround, I could embed the status ID or some other identifier as a reference in my controller (this is a web MVC application using Velocity as the View technology), but I strongly do not want to embed any magic numbers or constants in the view layer.

  • Refreshing Visual Studio's COM references tab

    - by r_honey
I right-clicked on the bin folder of my web app to add a COM Reference. I did not find the desired Com reference in the list. I went back to the Command Line to register by desired Com dll using resvr32. However, the COM references tab does not shows it (looks like the information is cached somewhere). Even restarting VS did not help. Is their any easy way to refresh the COM references tab without rebooting the machine itself??
