• Inkscape: what are "line" objects?

  What is a "line" object in Inkscape? Drawing lines in Inkscape is by using the tool "Draw Bezier curves and straight lines (Shift+F6)". This creates objects of another type, "path". Using Inkscape: is there a way to convert an object of type "line" into an object of the more general type "path"? I have imported a drawing (mostly lines, rectangles and text) that has been through Adobe Illustrator: originally made in Inkscape, imported into Illustrator, edited, saved from Illustrator as SVG, imported into Inkscape. Sample from the imported SVG file: <path id="path5855" stroke="#000000" d=" M320.198,275.935" /> <line fill="none" stroke="#000000" x1="348.553" y1="45.097" x2="348.553" y2="185.346" id="line3368" /> Update 1: I have inspected the original XML (SVG) file from 2006 and it does not contain any "line" XML tags. Thus it must be a crime of Adobe Illustrator. When a line is selected in this imported SVG file the bottom panel displays: "Line in root. Click selection to toggle scale/rotation handles.". When a line is selected that was drawn in Inkscape the bottom panel displays: "Path (2 nodes) in Layer 1. Click selection to toggle scale/rotation handles." What is the difference between "line" and "path"? Is "line" some kind of read-only/non-editable object? Any suggestions as to what I should re-install will be much appreciated.

• Windows 7 Starter Screensaver Program Original Files

  Dear Sir or Madam I used the program by Sopan and Javier to change the wallpaper in Windows 7 Starter Edition on my laptop and it worked fine. I have now upgraded to Home Edition but there seems to be remnants of the program still lurking somewhere as when I set photos up for the screensaver they are always stretched no matter what I set the picture position as, ie fill,fit,stretched, tiled or centred. Can Sopan or Javier or anyone else supply original copies please of the files the program modified so that I can over-write the modified files back to the original ones? I know I can re-install the full windows 7 software but I want to save the agony of that along with the re-installation of all my programs and drivers! Many thanks for your help. Mark

• Google chrome asking for username and password for OWA

  Hi, i have a question about the google chrome browser. When i navigate to my work's Outlook Web Access site to read my emails, the chrome browser is prompting me for a username and password to the server saying "Authentication Required - the server XXXXXX.XXX:443 requires a username and password. After i put them in i then have to enter in the normal OWA username and password to access my emails as per normal. The funny thing is.. 1] If i click CANCEL on the first dialog it takes me to the OWA screen and i can log in normal anyway. However - subqeuent page clicks will keep prompting me each time for the server credentials. 2] I am NOT prompted for server UN and PW if i use IE or fireFox. Does anyone know how to stop chrome from asking me each time? or is it a server setting - i do know that a friend who uses the same browser (chrome) and also OWA does not have the same problem (NB: they work at a different company) Thanks!

  Being left-handed, I use the mouse in my left hand. In most applications I use Ctrl + Insert or Shift + Insert to copy and paste (with my right hand). For some bone-headed reason, this is not supported in Photoshop, so I have to use right-click Copy sub-menus, which is a lot slower. Is there a way to configure Photoshop to use Ctrl + Insert to copy and Shift + Insert to paste?

  I have an airport express and Win 7 pro. My router is a Trendnet TEW-423PI G. The problem is everytime i try to connect it says it is unsuccessful and can't find ip address. I have tried everything. WPA2, WPA, WEP, Messing with the registry, Manually Inputting the ip address, Reinstalling drivers. I have two Macs that connect perfectly and are both running Snow Leopard that is why I am able to post this. What Should I do. I'm Going Crazy

Two of them are using usb graphic adapters. One 720 projector - directly connect to the graphic card via DVI. One 30'' dell monitor - currently connect to laptop via VGA. I would like to connect 30' dell to my main computer. I do not game or use graphic applications. What would be my best options? I am thinking to buy two lower-performance ati or nvidia cards and install them as crossfire(???) or sli. Am I thinking correctly?

  I'm having issues getting SMB file shares working over a PPTP VPN. The server setup consists of a security device (DrayTek V3300) which passes the PPTP authentication to a SBS2003 server running RRAS. The server is the DC and provides DNS and WINS, the single NIC's name server is set to the NIC's IP (192.168...), and DHCP on the DrayTek sets the server IP as the DNS. If I create a new VPN connection in Win7, leaving everything as default apart from the server, username, password and domain, I can: ping everything by IP address resolve IPs with nslookup using their fully-qualified name, as in nslookup fileserver.mydomain.local ping machines by fully-qualified name, as in ping fileserver.mydomain.local However if I try to access a file share: within Explorer, I get "Windows cannot access ..." with "Error code: 0x80004005 Unspecified Error", using net use z: \\fileserver.mydomain.local\share, I get "System error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found." If I add the machine name to my HOSTS file I can use the file share, which is my last-ditch workaround, but I have a number of VPN users and would rather a solution that doesn't involve me trying to hand-edit system files on computers half a country away. If I set the WINS server explicitly in the connection's IPv4 settings I don't have to use the FQN to ping the machine, but that doesn't change anything else. EDIT: The PC I'm having the issue on is running Win 7 Home Premium. After more testing I actually have two other PCs that work, one W7HP, one XP Home, and another Vista PC that doesn't work (not tested as much as the others), all four on the same internet connection (behind the same router). All of them were tested with a straight-forward, all defaults, new VPN configuration.

  A family member of mine recently went on vacation and turned off their computer, something they normally do not do, upon returning home it would not turn on and now returns the error message below. Generally friends and family come to me for help with computers and I have no problem, however this time I am a bit stumped. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. As you can see the error message is: Status: 0xc000000e Info: The best selection failed because a required device is inaccessible. Before going to this error message it briefly flashes the Windows loading screen. I have been able to confirm through the Windows RE Command Line and the dir command that the C: drive is accessible and likely is just suffering a bootup issue. I have tried: Launching the repair process discussed in the error message three times however each time it requires a restart and then returns to the same error message. Changing the boot order to be hard drive first Getting into safe mode; F8 just results in the same error message before I can get to the menu to select safe mode I have checked to make sure the BCD (bcdedit, Boot Configuration Data) is still intact as per https://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH160475 I plan to try (but would like additional comments on): sfc /scannow; requires a restart and thus will likely result in the error message again A memory scan Bootrec as per http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927392#method1 Swapping IDE cables/ports Resetting the BIOS I noticed others with similar issues around the web are dual-booting however this machine is not setup in a dual-boot environment. Additionally at one point this error message supposedly showed up before I started working on the computer: The instruction at 0xfbe2584d referenced memory at 0x00000008. The memory could not be read. As previously stated any additional suggestions or words of advice would be greatly apprecaited.

• Blackberry Enterprise Server v5.x not forwarding mail to devices

  My BlackBerry enterprise server recently stopped forwarding messages to devices. In fact, the server claims that the last time it communicated with all the devices associated with it, was on Thursday night (2 nights ago.) The catch is this, the Exchange server is running properly (or as properly as Exchange can run :) ) The SQL server seems to be running properly. And the Blackberry Enterprise server seems to be running correctly. Other than the fact that the server has not communicated with my device since Thursday, and the fact that I am not getting messages, there is nothing wrong. How do I get these message to be forwarded to devices again? I have restarted the BES services int he order suggested by the BlackBerry folks

• Gigabyte Onboard graphics card heating up and then crashing

• Creating a dynamic lacp trunk from HP Procurve 2412zl to Proliant DL380 G7

  I'm configuring an IEEE 802.3ad (LACP) dynamic trunk from a HP Procurve 2412zl (firmware version K.15.07) switch to a HP Proliant DL380 G7 server. The DL380 has 4 NICs and is running Win2008 R2, so I'm teaming the NICs together and leaving everything on the recommended "automatic" setting in the HP NIC configuration tool. The server is one of two, they'll be connected on interfaces F17-F20 and F21-F24 respectively on the switch. I need the servers in a separate VLAN, here is the configuration for the VLAN: vlan 10 name "Lab_Mgmt" untagged B2,F17-F24 ip address 172.22.71.3 255.255.255.0 tagged B21 exit There is a DHCP-relay into the VLAN 10 from another device beyond interface B21. The Advanced Traffic Management Guide says that in order to run a dynamic LACP trunk on another VLAN besides the DEFAULT_VLAN, you need to first enable GVRP and then use "forbid" to stop the interfaces from automatically joining DEFAULT_VLAN when the dynamic trunk is created. GVRP brings some other stuff with it that I don't want or need, so I disable it with "unknown-vlans disable" on all other interfaces. If I configure the server to a static IP-address on the VLAN 10 subnet, it can't even ping the switch IP-address, much less anything outside of the VLAN. The switch can't ping the server either. I did another attempt with F17-F20 tagged, and checking the box "Default Native Tag (VLAN 10)" in the NIC configuration tool on the server, but there was no difference. Does anyone have any idea what I might have missed?

• Why isn't the scripts in my autoload folder being executed in Vim?

  I'm trying to use Pathogen to manage my Vim extensions. My bundle folder looks like this: .../bundle/ +-- vim-pathogen ¦   +-- autoload ¦   +-- pathogen.vim +-- vim-smoothscroll +-- autoload +-- smooth_scroll.vim And my vimrc file includes this: let s:root = fnamemodify(resolve(expand(":p")), ":h") " Initiate pathogen. exec "source " . s:root . "/vimfiles/bundle/vim-pathogen/autoload/pathogen.vim" exec pathogen#infect() My vimrc file is a symlink located in ~ but pointing to a folder inside my Dropbox folder. This appears to work when I start Vim. Loading the script manually works fine.
