  • SSD not detected on boot up running windows 7, with installed blank hdd

    I have recently built a PC for a friend, after the original system build, which included a 60GB primary SSD and a secondary 1TB HDD. I kept getting blue screens of death and kernel power errors, after investigation it was revealed that a faulty power cable and insufficient thermal paste provided with the included heat sink was the cause. This resolved the problem but after 3 months I received a phone call saying that the PC was not starting at the point of loading the operating system, with an NTLDR error. I had an idea of the cause, and after the user removed the HDD the computer started up with no issues, then I asked him to power off and reattach the HDD, and this completely resolved the issue; beforehand even restarting would not fix it. He does not have a surge protector and I thought that maybe some registry corruption had occurred due to a power surge, this might be a stupid answer though. Any ideas to what occurred with the machine would be most appreciated. No other issues have been found since the initial fault. The PC uses Windows 7 Home Premium installed on the SSD.

  • Can't Boot Ubuntu, video drivers or x-server problem?

    I was uninstalling some programs that I installed to try and get my iPod touch working with Ubuntu (I gave up on that) when ubuntu just crashed. Now after I choose ubuntu in GRUB, it gives me a screen that says "Ubuntu is running in low-graphics mode: your screen, graphics card, and input device settings could not be detected correctly. You will need to configure these yourself" It was working just fine before I started to uninstall those programs. I think that I might have uninstalled something necessary to the system. If I click OK on the screen, it gives me options to reconfigure, troubleshoot, exit to console, or restart X. But no matter what I choose I still can't boot into ubuntu - I get stuck looking at the splash screen which stalls forever. I was receiving support from one of my mate's and he was doing something with the LiveCD, and now the message doesn't pop up any more, I just get stuck at a never ending splash screen. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

    when i start my pc when the first screen i see the resultion is small but when it gets to log in screen its good how di i change the resultion screen size of the first screen thats the screen thats small and the log in screen and when i log in all thats good only that screen pls help me someone thanks the graphic card is gtx 680 thanks im not sure wht topic this goes in It worked perfectly one day I didn't read the nividia 3d thing and i didn't read and i unstalled the drivers and that change and then later installed it back after how do I fix this?   • Thin configuration doesn't start on boot, but they do on manual start [migrated]

    I have some thin config files (generated with sudo thin install) which are slightly modified (only paths where they're located). I can start them just fine with /etc/init.d/thin start, but if the server is restarted, they're not auto started. I issued the update-rc.d thin defaults command to make it run on startup, but no luck yet. This server is running Ubuntu 12.04.1 32-bit, Ruby 1.9.3p194, MongoDB 2.2.0.

  • How to Completely delete my USB thumbstick?

    I own a Kingston thumb-stick. I have installed a Google Chrome OS image to it so I could try it out. When it did so, it created 3 partitions (I backed everything and the software that installed Chrome OS delete my thumb-stick completely and created 3 partitions). Now I want to get it back to 1 partition but when I go to Disk Management, it will not let me "extend" the partition. I have tried different partitioning tools but they didn't recognize my thumb-stick anyway. I have also tried DiskPart to no avail. Is there any software that will completely format my thumb-stick so I would only have 1 partition?

    Hi all I have recently purchased some so called 256gb Kingston drives that are fake I used a program called check flash and few other to check for dead sectors and read speed and read and write speed the results are as follows: they were reading at 1.35 mbps at best they read and wrote at 0.95 mbps and had a hell of a lot of dead sectors so what I ask is: Is there a way to drop the size to improve speed Is there any other way to improve speed How can I stop the device from addressing the dead sectors Any help will be much appreciated ALL THE THANKS (MADYOTTO)

  • Fixed or consistent mount location for a USB hard drive

    I store my music on an external hard drive, and play them with foobar2k. However, the drive letter changes, which usually means I need to rebuild a fairly large playlist every so often. I'm wondering if there's a way to reserve a drive letter for a specific external device (or type of device) by device ID or volume name, or if I'm better off using a NTFS mount point, and re-mounting the drive to a folder each time. I'm using either a Windows XP or 7 system, and the external drive is NTFS.

  • Windows 7 boot error

    I am running windows 7 professional, everything was working fine until I installed a software driver clearner suggested by nvidia customer service and I cleaned only nvidia graphic driver installation since then my windows does not work at all. I can access everything from startup repair, did lots of time repair but nothing happened. System restore does not work it says c: drive is not available, its 100% there and I can access every file from command prompt. Almost two days passed and I applied every solution discussed on several forums, now only thing left is either install fresh windows (Which i really don't want to do) or update windows (which windows does not let me to do, it says I have to update it from windows) My question is there any way to update (not fresh/custom installation) windows from command prompt? P.s: Safe mode, safe mode command nothing works except startup repair option. I ran sfc /scannow no problem found. I also removed all attached hardwares. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I have an external harddisk and my friends asked for it. The point is I don't trust in his anti-virus software. Is there anyway to allow some folders (I prepare hdd space for him) to write-able and all others is read-only ? or is there a software that can do like this ? And it would be great if I can have full access on my computer ONLY (may be with some specific software on my PC) and without having to modify anything. I don't ask for hdd-encryption since I only want to limit the area of write-able folder (and allow my friend to read through all my data), later I can scan for virus myself only in that area ... scanning entire hdd with 500gb/friend is not fun at all ! Sorry if this doesn't seems like the programming questions. Any help would be appreciate, Thank you.

  • Hp Pavilion dv6000 wont boot right and freezes

    I have an hp pavilion dv6000 that was having windows issues recently including randomly freezing. I eventually concluded that the hard drive was bad (And I was correct as the bad drive started making funny noises and quit working soon after). So I replaced it with a known good drive and put windows on it and it worked for a few hours. After a few restarts startup didn't even make it to the login screen. It just stays at a lighted black screen until I restarted. After another restart it made it to windows but then froze after a few minutes. A few more restarts yielded one of these two results. Like I mentioned earlier I have a know good drive in it and I also replaced the memory that was in it with a know good stick along with running memtest with no errors. So What does that leave? a corrupted windows installation? Motherboard? CPU? Any ideas?

    I previously used this tutorial to dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 perfectly. Now I have upgraded my Windows 7 to Windows 8. And I would like to do a fresh install (and start all over again like the tutorial) of Ubuntu 12.10 replacing existing Ubuntu 12.04. I like the way the tutorial presents thus can anyone kindly let me know if the tutorial is compatible with what I wanna do now? I have tried doing little research whether this has been asked, but all I got are not too similar to my question, if there are topics like this I do apologise and feel free to close it.     I'm working on a project that utilizes the USB Host capabilities in Android 3.2. I'm suffering from a deplorable lack of knowledge and talent regarding USB/Serial communication in general. I'm also unable to find any good example code for what I need to do. I need to read from a USB Communication Device. Ex: When I connect via Putty (on my PC) I enter: >GO And the device starts spewing out data for me. Pitch/Roll/Temp/Checksum. Ex: $R1.217P-0.986T26.3*60 $R1.217P-0.986T26.3*60 $R1.217P-0.987T26.3*61 $R1.217P-0.986T26.3*60 $R1.217P-0.985T26.3*63 I can send the initial 'GO' command from the Android device at which time I receive an echo of 'GO'. Then nothing else on any subsequent reads. How can I: 1) Send the 'go' command. 2) Read in the stream of data that results. The USB device I'm working with has the following interfaces (endpoints). Device Class: Communication Device (0x2) Interfaces: Interface #0 Class: Communication Device (0x2) Endpoint #0 Direction: Inbound (0x80) Type: Intrrupt (0x3) Poll Interval: 255 Max Packet Size: 32 Attributes: 000000011 Interface #1 Class: Communication Device Class (CDC) (0xa) Endpoint #0 Address: 129 Number: 1 Direction: Inbound (0x80) Type: Bulk (0x2) Poll Interval (0) Max Packet Size: 32 Attributes: 000000010 Endpoint #1 Address: 2 Number: 2 Direction: Outbound (0x0) Type: Bulk (0x2) Poll Interval (0) Max Packet Size: 32 Attributes: 000000010 I'm able to deal with permission, connect to the device, find the correct interface and assign the endpoints.   • Using USB PS2 hand controller in C#.NET
