  • jQuery Running a function in a context and adding to a variable

    - by Mark
For this question I'm going to give a simplified example of what I want to do, and the function I want to learn to write. var collection = ''; <div id='container'> <span>1</span> <span>2</span> <span>3</span> </div> What I want to do this, for every span in the div, take its text, add it to the collection. So ideally it would look like: $('#container').addtoCollection(collection); The method would be something like: $(this).find('span').each(function () { collection = collection + $(this).text(); }). Where the first this would equal #container. So in the end you can do: console.log(collection); and get: 123 How do I write the function that does this? Thanks!

  • Java compiler rejects variable declaration with parameterized inner class

    - by Johansensen
I have some Groovy code which works fine in the Groovy bytecode compiler, but the Java stub generated by it causes an error in the Java compiler. I think this is probably yet another bug in the Groovy stub generator, but I really can't figure out why the Java compiler doesn't like the generated code. Here's a truncated version of the generated Java class (please excuse the ugly formatting): @groovy.util.logging.Log4j() public abstract class AbstractProcessingQueue <T> extends nz.ac.auckland.digitizer.AbstractAgent implements groovy.lang.GroovyObject { protected int retryFrequency; protected java.util.Queue<nz.ac.auckland.digitizer.AbstractProcessingQueue.ProcessingQueueMember<T>> items; public AbstractProcessingQueue (int processFrequency, int timeout, int retryFrequency) { super ((int)0, (int)0); } private enum ProcessState implements groovy.lang.GroovyObject { NEW, FAILED, FINISHED; } private class ProcessingQueueMember<E> extends java.lang.Object implements groovy.lang.GroovyObject { public ProcessingQueueMember (E object) {} } } The offending line in the generated code is this: protected java.util.Queue<nz.ac.auckland.digitizer.AbstractProcessingQueue.ProcessingQueueMember<T>> items; which produces the following compile error: [ERROR] C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\digitizer\target\generated-sources\groovy-stubs\main\nz\ac\auckland\digitizer\AbstractProcessingQueue.java:[14,96] error: improperly formed type, type arguments given on a raw type The column index of 96 in the compile error points to the <T> parameterization of the ProcessingQueueMember type. But ProcessingQueueMember is not a raw type as the compiler claims, it is a generic type: private class ProcessingQueueMember <E> extends java.lang.Object implements groovy.lang.GroovyObject { ... I am very confused as to why the compiler thinks that the type Queue<ProcessingQueueMember<T>> is invalid. The Groovy source compiles fine, and the generated Java code looks perfectly correct to me too. What am I missing here? Is it something to do with the fact that the type in question is a nested class? (in case anyone is interested, I have filed this bug report relating to the issue in this question) Edit: Turns out this was indeed a stub compiler bug- this issue is now fixed in 1.8.9, 2.0.4 and 2.1, so if you're still having this issue just upgrade to one of those versions. :)

  • Dynamic Variable Names in Included Module in Ruby?

    - by viatropos
I'm hoping to implement something like all of the great plugins out there for ruby, so that you can do this: acts_as_commentable has_attached_file :avatar But I have one constraint: That helper method can only include a module; it can't define any variables or methods. Here's what the structure looks like, and I'm wondering if you know the missing piece in the puzzle: # 1 - The workhorse, encapsuling all dynamic variables module My::Module def self.included(base) base.extend ClassMethods base.class_eval do include InstanceMethods end end module InstanceMethods self.instance_eval %Q? def #{options[:my_method]} "world!" end ? end module ClassMethods end end # 2 - all this does is define that helper method module HelperModule def self.included(base) base.extend(ClassMethods) end module ClassMethods def dynamic_method(options = {}) include My::Module(options) end end end # 3 - send it to active_record ActiveRecord::Base.send(:include, HelperModule) # 4 - what it looks like class TestClass < ActiveRecord::Base dynamic_method :my_method => "hello" end puts TestClass.new.hello #=> "world!" That %Q? I'm not totally sure how to use, but I'm basically just wanting to somehow be able to pass the options hash from that helper method into the workhorse module. Is that possible? That way, the workhorse module could define all sorts of functionality, but I could name the variables whatever I wanted at runtime.

  • Variable loss in redirected bash while loop

    - by James Hadley
    I have the following code for ip in $(ifconfig | awk -F ":" '/inet addr/{split($2,a," ");print a[1]}') do bytesin=0; bytesout=0; while read line do if [[ $(echo ${line} | awk '{print $1}') == ${ip} ]] then increment=$(echo ${line} | awk '{print $4}') bytesout=$((${bytesout} + ${increment})) else increment=$(echo ${line} | awk '{print $4}') bytesin=$((${bytesin} + ${increment})) fi done < <(pmacct -s | grep ${ip}) echo "${ip} ${bytesin} ${bytesout}" >> /tmp/bwacct.txt done Which I would like to print the incremented values to bwacct.txt, but instead the file is full of zeroes: 91.227.223.66 0 0 91.227.221.126 0 0 127.0.0.1 0 0 My understanding of Bash is that a redirected for loop should preserve variables. What am I doing wrong?

  • Variable function name Javascript.

    - by Vladimir
I'm sorting array: myArray.sort(comparators.some_comparator); and I have several comparator to choose from: comparators = { asc_firstname_comparator : function(o1, o2){ ... } desc_firstname_comparator : function(o1, o2){ ... } etc... } I want to write function which returns certain comparator depending on input data. It should figure out comparator from string inputs, something like this: function chooseComparator(field, order){ return "comparators."+order+"_"+field+"_comparator"; } So is it possible to pass only function name string to sort() method or I'll need to pass reference to correct comparator somehow?

  • C++ variable to const expression

    - by user1344784
template <typename Real> class A{ }; template <typename Real> class B{ }; //... a few dozen more similar template classes class Computer{ public slots: void setFrom(int from){ from_ = from; } void setTo(int to){ to_ = to; } private: template <int F, int T> void compute(){ using boost::fusion::vector; using boost::fusion::at_c; vector<A<float>, B<float>, ...> v; at_c<from_>(v).operator()(at_c<to_>(v)); //error; needs to be const-expression. }; This question isn't about Qt, but there is a line of Qt code in my example. The setFrom() and setTo() are functions that are called based on user selection via the GUI widget. The root of my problem is that 'from' and 'to' are variables. In my compute member function I need to pick a type (A, B, etc.) based on the values of 'from' and 'to'. The only way I know how to do what I need to do is to use switch statements, but that's extremely tedious in my case and I would like to avoid. Is there anyway to convert the error line to a constant-expression?

  • pass by reference but reference to data and not to variable

    - by dorelal
This is psesudo code. In what programming language this is possible ? def lab(input) input = ['90'] end x = ['80'] lab(x) puts x #=> value of x has changed from ['80'] to ['90] I have written this in ruby but in ruby I get the final x value of 80 because ruby is pass-by-reference. However what is passed is the reference to the data held by x and not pointer to x itself same is true in JavaScript. So I am wondering if there is any programming language where the following is true.

  • Getting a Type variable knowing the name of type C#

    - by StuffHappens
Hello! I'm developing a TypeTranslator class which has a method Type TranslateType(Type type). This method gets a type of an interface and if there's a class of interface name without leading I it creates it, otherwise an exception is raised. Here's some code to clearify what's written before: class Program { interface IAnimal { } class Animal : IAnimal { } void Function() { TypeTranslator typeTranslator = new TypeTranslator(); Assert(typeTranslator.TranslateType(typeof(IAnimal) == typeof(Animal))); } } Is it possible to get what I want? Thank you for your help!

  • Arduino variable going blank after first pass.

    - by user541597
I have an arduino sketch that takes a timet and when that timet is equal to the current time it sets the new timet to timet + 2. For example: char* convert(char* x, String y){ int hour; int minute; sscanf(x, "%d:%d", &hour, &minute); char buf[6]; if (y == "6"){ if (hour > 17){ hour = (hour+6)%24; snprintf(buf, 10, "%d:%d", hour, minute ); }else if (hour < 18){ //hour = hour + 6; minute = (minute + 2); snprintf(buf, 10, "%d:%d", hour, minute); } } if (y == "12"){ if (hour > 11){ hour = (hour+12)%24; snprintf(buf, 10, "%d:%d", hour, minute ); } else if (hour < 12){ hour = hour + 12; snprintf(buf, 10, "%d:%d", hour, minute); } } if (y == "24"){ hour = (hour+24)%24; snprintf(buf, 10, "%d:%d", hour, minute ); } return buf; } sketch starts for example at 1:00am timet is set to 1:02, at system time 1:02 timet == system time my loops looks like this: if (timet == currenttime){ timet = convert(timet) } From this now when ever I check the value of timet it should equal 1:04, however I am getting the correct value at the first run after the execution of convert however everytime after that my timet value is blank. I tried changing the code instead of using the if loop I only run the convert function when I send for example t through the serial monitor, this works fine and outputs the correct timet after the execution of the convert function, So I figured the problem is in the if loop... Any ideas?

  • Echoing variable construct instead of content

    - by danp
I'm merging two different versions of a translations array. The more recent version has a lot of changes, over several thousand lines of code. To do this, I loaded and evaluated the new file (which uses the same structure and key names), then loaded and evaluated the older version, overwriting the new untranslated values in the array with the values we already have translated. So far so good! However, I want to be able to echo out the constructor for this new merged array so I can cut and paste it into the new translation file, and have job done (apart from completing the rest of the translations..). The code looks like this (lots of different keys, not just index): $lang["index"]["chart1_label1"] = "Subscribed"; $lang["index"]["chart1_label2"] = "Unsubscribed"; And the old.. $lang["index"]["chart1_label1"] = "Subscrito"; $lang["index"]["chart1_label2"] = "Não subscrito"; After loading the two files, I end up with a merged $lang array, which I then want to echo out in the same form, so it can be used by the project. However, when I do something like this.. foreach ($lang as $key => $value) { if (is_array($value)) { foreach ($value as $key2 => $value2) { echo "$lang['".$key."']"; // ... etc etc } } } ..obviously I get "ArrayIndex" etc etc instead of "$lang". How to echo out $lang without it being evaluated..? Once this is working, can add in the rest of the brackets etc (I realise they are missing), but just want to make this part work first. If there's a better way to do this, all ears too! Thanks.

  • Can I create a variable with JavaScript that PHP can recognize?

    - by zeckdude
I have a series of PHP statements that I only want to run if javaScript is enabled. if($js_enabled == 'yes') { //Run a series of PHP statements } My problem is that I want to create that $js_enabled variable with javaScript. Therefore, if javaScript is enabled, the variable will be created and the PHP statements will be run, but if javaScript is not enabled, the variable will never be created and the PHP statements will not run. How can I create a variable with JavaScript that PHP can recognize?

  • how do you find the exact variable of a null pointer exception

    - by OVERTONE
I've been at this one for a bit now. I've got a null pointer exception so im guessing somethings not been initialized. AdminMessages.inbox1.setText(messageRsetArray[0]); thats my code where its targetting. but i cant find what inside it hasnt been initiazed. AdminMessages is a class which contains a JTextField called inbox1, messageRsetArray is an array which has taken variables from an array. also inbox1 is static. i coulndt get the getters and setter to work. i know its bad practice though.

  • how to keep the value of a variable in a closure

    - by Florian Fida
i need to create multiple javascript functions which have a static id inside, so the function itself knows what data to process. Here is some code: (function(){ function log(s){ if(console && console.log) console.log(s); else alert(s); } var i = 10; while (i--){ window.setTimeout(function(){ // i need i to be 10, 9, 8... here not -1 log(i); },500); } })(); The problem ist that i allways gets updated by the loop, and i need to prevent this. Thanks in advance for any help, comments or tips!

  • should variable be released or not? iphone-sdk

    - by psebos
Hi, I have the following piece of code from a book. There is this function loadPrefs where the NSString *userTimeZone is being released before the end of the function. Why? The string was not created with alloc and I assume that the stringForKey function returns an autoreleased NSString. Is this an error or am I missing something? Is it an error in the book? (I new into objective-C) In the documentation for stringForKey the only thing it mentions is: Special Considerations The returned string is immutable, even if the value you originally set was a mutable string. The code: - (void) loadPrefs { timeZoneName = DefaultTimeZonePref; NSUserDefaults *defaults = [NSUserDefaults standardUserDefaults]; NSString *userTimeZone = [defaults stringForKey: TimeZonePrefKey]; if (userTimeZone != NULL) timeZoneName = userTimeZone; [userTimeZone release]; show24Hour = [defaults boolForKey:TwentyFourHourPrefKey]; } Thanks!!!!

  • C99 variable length automatic array performance

    - by aaa
Is there significant cpu/memory overhead associated with using automatic arrays with g++/Intel on 64-bit x86 linux platform? int function(int N) { double array[N]; overhead compared to allocating array before hand (assuming function is called multiple times) overhead compared to using new overhead compared to using malloc The range of N may be from 1kb to 16kb roughly, stack overrun is not a problem.
