• Connecting to localhost resolves 127.0.0.1 but connects with external IP [Linux, Debian]

  I'm having a problem with a dedicated server, I don't known if it's the default behavior but this is the problem: If I connect to a service located on the server with localhost the service gets as source IP the external IP. Let me show an example, I use netcat for listening on 127.0.0.1:4444 xxxxxx # nc -vv -l -s 127.0.0.1 -p 4444 listening on [127.0.0.1] 4444 ... Lets check if it's ok: xxxxxx ~ # netstat -atnp | grep 4444 tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:4444 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 14038/nc Ok lets connect: xxxxxx ~ # nc -vv 127.0.0.1 4444 localhost [127.0.0.1] 4444 (?) open Return to the tty that have the listening process and I get this: connect to [127.0.0.1] from xxxxxx.net [176.31.xxx.xx] 50354 So that's the problem. I have a server daemon that have to listen on localhost and checks that the ip is 127.0.0.1 when the client connects but for some reason when I connect to localhost it reports the external ip... If I do the same with IPv6 it works as excepted... Detects connection as localhost (::1).   I'm wanting to install Ubuntu Server 9.10 onto an IBM xSeries 306m. The onboard SATA RAID controller is not being correctly detected.   I want to get source of `thinkfinger' package, sudo apt-get source thinkfinger But, it reports 403 error, and I found that it get the source from xxxx/pool/universe/t/thinkfinger/, but the correct location is in xxxx/pool/main/t/thinkfinger/. So, is there any option for apt-get to specify which repository should it use?

• Windows System shows wrong amount of RAM?

  I just got an ASUS 1005HA and immediately upgraded it to 2GB of RAM. However, when I open up the Windows System Dialog, it says their is only .99GB of RAM. CPU-Z sees the whole 2GB though. Anybody know what's going on here? EDIT: The BIOS also reports the correct amount of memory in the system.

  When I run wireshark on a wired network it works fine and reports all of the packets. When I run it on a wireless network though I only see my own traffic. The wireless card I have is supposed to support packet capture and go into premiscous mode, but I don't see any other system traffic. What is wrong?

• Nagios not accepting regex in command

  I have this command defined: define command{ command_name check_http_sane command_line $USER1$/check_http -H $HOSTNAME$ -r "HTTP/1.1 (200|301|302|303|304|307|401|418|426)" } When I run it manually on command line, it works fine, but nagios (2.6) reports a "pattern not found" error. • Routers with decent parental monitoring / traffic logging?

  I'm looking for consumer router / firmware recommendations with reasonably robust remote URL / hostname logging & reporting functionality. Most logging functionality I've seen is terrible - reporting only IP addresses, not rolling up reports or reporting any useful statistics. The logs are also often limited to merely the last few minutes/hours when handling high-traffic loads. Bonus points for providing a screenshot of the log reporting interface!

  My cron jobs are trying to mail their results using the local mail feature of Ubuntu (not internet email, the kind of mail you can read with mutt). However, /var/log/syslog reports /USR/SBIN/CRON[19212]: (speedtax) MAIL (mailed 52 bytes of output but got status 0x0006 ) I would like to setup local mail (so that cron can deliver the output successfully) but do not want to setup internet email. Everything I find on google is about the latter.

  I saved over the encryption key backup file when changing from one account to another. Now I can't see reports, change accounts, or use any of the Encryption key tools in the configuration manager. • Is there a good Open Source alternative to the commercial software "Quicken"?

• Ubuntu says FAT16, windows says NTF?

  I created a partition on USB harddisk in windows and it reports to be an NTFS partition. Yet in ubuntu 9.10 fdisk says it a FAT16 partition. If I mount with -t ntfs I see nothing, but if I mount without it I see all the files. Can anyone tell me whats going on here? Windows computer disk management definately says its NTFS, and a quick look at the raw data suggests it is NTFS, as I know the FAT16 very well.

  We have an application that uses Active Reports documents. You pass a document the UNC of the printer and away it goes. We have a group that runs this application within a Citrix session and the truly networked printers function perfectly but shared printers that work well outside of Citrix become unreachable. Printers do not need to be defined on the machine running the report for the system to work. There is something in the way Critrix passes the information to the destination UNC that I don’t understand.

• How do I extend the virsh/qemu/libvirt Timeout?

  There's a known issue with starting virtual machines with large hard drive images. Apparently, the time-out is 3 seconds, but in reality, it can take up to 15 seconds for a machine to start. I've read several bug reports, and people confirming it's a time-out problem, but I have yet to see a solution. Is there an option I can pass, like: virsh start MyMachine --ignore-timeout Or a config file that needs changed? Thanks!

• HP Server Automation - agent misreporting hostname

  I've been using HP Server Automation for some time, but have noticed an interesting issue I'm hoping the SF community has seen / knows a workaround to. When the management agent on Solaris or RHEL (only platforms I've noticed it on) reports the hostname of the managed server, it does not return the value of hostname, it returns the first alias to that entry in /etc/hosts. Any ideas on how to get around that? Other than editing /etc/hosts so the alias is at the end of the line instead of the front?
