  • CRM@Oracle Series: Showcasing Innovation with Oracle Customer Hub

    - by tony.berk
When is having too many customers a challenge? It is not something too many people would complain about. But from a data perspective, one challenge is to keep each customer's data consistent across multiple enterprise systems such as CRM, ERP, and all of your other related applications. Buckle your seat belts, we are going a bit technical today... If you have ever tried it, you know it isn't easy. If you haven't, don't go there alone! Customer data integration projects are challenging and, depending on the environment, require sharp, innovative people to succeed. Want to hear from some guys who have done it and succeeded? Here is an interview with Dan Lanir and Afzal Asif from Oracle's Applications IT CRM Systems group on implementing Oracle Customer Hub and innovation. For more interesting discussions on innovation, check out the Oracle Innovation Showcase.

  • Web Development Trends: Mobile First, Data-Oriented Development, and Single Page Applications

    - by dwahlin
I recently had the opportunity to give a keynote talk at an Intel conference about key trends in the world of Web development that I feel teams should be taking into account with projects. It was a lot of fun and I had the opportunity to talk with a lot of different people about projects they’re working on. There are a million things that could be covered for this type of talk (HTML5 anyone?) but I only had 60 minutes and couldn’t possibly cover them all so I decided to focus on 3 key areas: mobile, data-oriented development, and SPAs. The talk was geared toward introducing people (many who weren’t Web developers) to topics such as mobile first development (demos showed a few tools to help here), responsive design techniques, data binding techniques that can simplify code, and Single Page Application (SPA) benefits. Links to code demos shown during the presentation can be found at the end of the slide deck. Web Development Trends - What's New in the World of Web Development by Dan Wahlin

  • Dual booting on separate hard drives

    - by tornadorider
I have windows XP professional installed on 1 hard drive and Ubuntu 10.10 on my second hard drive. On start up the computer completely skips the grub menu and boots straight into 10.10. I have tried running os-prober with the windows hard drive mounted and then updating grub but it didnt work. Any ideas? I have changed the boot order so that the HDD with xp on it is first however the computer still booted into linux. I tried running grub-install /dev/sda and got this /usr/sbin/grub-setup: warn: Sector 32 is already in use by FlexNet; avoiding it. This software may cause boot or other problems in future. Please ask its authors not to store data in the boot track.. /usr/sbin/grub-setup: warn: Sector 33 is already in use by FlexNet; avoiding it. This software may cause boot or other problems in future. Please ask its authors not to store data in the boot track.. Installation finished. No error reported I checked using disk utility and the code for my xp hard drive is sdb so i ran the camand grub-install /dev/sdb shich gave me this Installation finished. No error reported. So i rebooted but it still didnt work. Any other ideas? • Tae Kwon Do in Overland Park

    - by [C.B.W]
If you are in the Overland Park area and are in need of some physical recreation (and who isn’t) I have to recommend Master’s Tae Kwon Do in Overland Park KS . Master Tom is an 8th Dan teaching Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido. Yah, he teaches almost all of the classes himself. I used to take ishin ryu but stopped some 12 years ago (seems like yesterday. God I am getting old.)    I had wanted to get back into some type of Martial Arts training and I wanted to get my son involved as well – Master’s Tae Kwon Do has the best schedule.   My son and I can go to any of the classes together. Tae Kwon Do is a pretty good work out, lots of kicks so gets the blood pumping. Work out and learn how to defend yourself all at one time. Great for those of us short on time.

  • Star Sightings at MIX 10

Hey its Vegas baby! Brad was stylin. Tim and I were a poor mans Vin Diesel and Tom Cruise. The jacket and shades actually suited Karen. Dan looked like he worked in Vegas. Ward was, well, Ward. Was it the town, the conference, or are we all just wacky developer/designer types? Ward Bell brought along his jacket, shirt and shades and of course we all just had to get into the act. (If you think this is crazy, wait til you see what Ward did to top it in our upcoming Silverlight TV video!) Dan...

  • IIS7 Serving .mp4s, not playable on iOS devices.

    - by Danomite
I've added the proper MIME type to the server, made sure it applies to not only the specific site but even the all of server's sites. The file is accessible and playable in my browser (Chrome) but when trying to pull it up on an iPhone , the debug mode warns me that the "movie could not be played" but on iPad it's "byte_range_error_message" I'm really at a loss here of why iOS devices won't load the video up. I know it's not the video files themselves because I had used the same file on a different server (on a shared hosting package). Any help is appreciated! -Dan

  • Reviewing Orace ADF Enterprise Application Development Made Simple Book

    - by Grant Ronald
Although I was a technical reviewer of Oracle ADF Enterprise Application Development-Made Simple (by Sten Vesterli) it is nice to get the finished article in your hands as a real tangible book. Personally, on a sun lounger with a Dan Brown book I can read 300 pages a day, but technical books are a different beast and I find it hard to get through them with the same vigour.  However, I'm up to chapter 7 in Sten's book and so far it's holding my interest.  He writes in an almost conversational tone and I really like the comparisons to "real world" concepts - like page templates being like gingerbread cookie cutters.  Personally I like to be able to compare or size up a new concept against something I already know. I'll post a full review next week but the good news is 212 pages in and I'm still reading!

  • Powder games: how do they work?

    - by Marc Müller
Hey guys, I recently found these two gems: http://powdertoy.co.uk/ http://dan-ball.jp/en/javagame/dust/ My question is: How are the physics with so many elements efficiently handled? Am I just severely underestimating modern computing power or is it possible to 'just' have a two-dimensional array, each cell of which describes what is placed at the according position and simulate each cell in every step. Or are there more complex things being done like summarising large areas of the same kind into a single data set and separating said set as needed? Are there any open-source games like this I could look at?
