Using `g_object_set_data` for passing user name.

I am using g_object_set_data to set user name with event_box so in call back i can get it with in event_box pointer. g_object_set_data(G_OBJECT(event_box), "user_name", (gpointer)(user_name) ); but problem is that i am setting user_name which is not an pointer allocated string. It is an local string (not allocated on hip) which gets destroyed. So is it necessary to allocated and then use the pointer, i just want to associate one name with this event_box.

What do I change in my domain name's DNS if I get a new Internet provider?

My company is about to get a new physical connection to the Internet, replacing the old provider. They, of course, are giving us the allotted IPs, Gateway, and DNS servers. My domain name is registered with a provider like Bluehost, GoDaddy, etc. When this new connection goes in, what do I change in the domain name providers DNS? I know to change what Host point to. That is my new IP address. But what about the name servers? I am confused because the company gave me IP addresses for the name servers, but at the provider is has a DNS server name like ns1.somedomain.com. Also, How do I update the Internet's DNS servers? Ubuntu 12.10 graphics does not work properly

My graphic on ubuntu 12.10 does not work as well as on 12.04. After upgrade I installed driver sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install nvidia-current for my Nvidia 450 GTS graphics card. But sometimes I see slight lag on my videos played in VLC player, some of desktop and window effects are lagging, sometimes I can see an indescribable souce of pixels on my screen at the start of ubuntu and so on. I feel difference between 12.04 and 12.10 in favour of former version. How can I get my HID device working in VirtualBox?

I'm running the latest official Ubuntu build of VirtualBox (4.1.12), with Windows 8 running as the guest OS. I have a Windows app that works with a card reading HID device, but it's not detected by the guest OS at all. I've installed the USB extensions, guest additions and set my udev rules accordingly (my own linux app is able to access the device), but no joy. Does anyone know how to get this working?

How to determine if the name selected is available and there will be no legal issues later? Example.: A new website being developed, it needs a name, isn't it? So the team who is responsible for it decides, the name will be "WooLaCocaCola", means I should register the www.woolacocacola.com domain for the site. Let's say the domain is free to register, but that doesn't mean that the name as it is can be used, how can I check something like this?

How can an iPhone access another non-iPhone device over wireless or bluetooth?

I'm trying to figure out if an iPhone can connect to another non-iPhone device over wireless or bluetooth and have seen conflicting information. Much of what I've found was before version 3.0 of the SDK came out, when it certainly wasn't possible. Looking at questions like this mention you can't connect to an arbitrary device unless if it's part of the "Works for iPhone" device. Do I need hardware that is part of this program? Looking through the Apple documentation, it mentions connecting two iPhones, not an iPhone to another Bluetooth device. Then there are articles like this that includes this quote ...and with the newly-announced "standard support" should allow file transfer between the iPhone and a computer, as well as between nearby iPhones Other questions mention Bonjour, and the Apple documentation talk about connecting to Bonjour devices, but can an iPhone connect to any Bonjour device? Does it have to have a wifi connection, or can it use Bluetooth? Even if I could use Bluetooth to connect to another device, it won't be available on first generation iPhones and iTouches, I believe. Is that correct? I'm thinking of an iPhone application that would need to communicate with other non-iPhone devices in the area, probably using Bluetooth, but possibly a direct wireless connection. What are the possibilities and limitations of this approach? Is it not possible to have an iPhone connect to an arbitrary Bluetooth device? Does the other device have to be on a wireless Bonjour network that? I'm trying to figure out if it's even possible for this to work or if it's not worth the effort.

How to draw a part of a window into a memory device context?

I'm using simple statements to keep it, er, simple: The screen goes from 0, 0 to 1000, 1000 (screen coordinates). A window goes from 100, 100 to 900, 900 (screen coordinates). I have a memory device context that goes from 0, 0 to 200, 200 (logical coordinates). I need to send a WM_PRINT message to the window. I can pass the device context to the window via WM_PRINT, but I cannot pass which part of its window it should draw into the device context. Is there some way to alter the device context that will result in the window drawing a specific part of itself into the device context (say, its bottom right portion from 700, 700 to 900, 900)? (This is all under plain old GDI and in C or C++. Any solution must be too.) Please note: This problem is part of a larger solution in which the device context size is fixed and speed is crucial, so I cannot draw the window in full into a separate device context and blit the part I want from the resultant full bitmap into my device context.

Hey. I have a project with a MPVolumeView in it. It is set up, and it works, the only thing is that when I mute the device, the text "No Volume Available" comes up instead of the MPVolumeView. Is it possible to stop the "Beep" device on all computers in a Windows network?

On Windows the default behavior it to make an annoying "beep" sound every time Windows things something notable happened. The result is that when someone send a company-wide email via the MS Exchange all computers around my cubicle beep one by one. This is annoying and makes no sense. Luckily beeping can be shut off. Someone has to: open the "Device Manager", select "View - Show hidden devices", find the "Beep" device in "Non-Pug and Play Devices" node, open its properties, go to the "Driver" tab, set "startup type" to "Disabled" and click "Stop". The "Beep" device will stop and no longer produce the useless sound. This solution however requires tracking every computer and then talking to its user which is not very convenient. Device Manager doesn't allow stopping a device on another computer. I'm looking for a solution that can be deployed by the administrators team. We have a domain and the administrators even install the programs company-wide automatically. Are there any means to stop the "Beep" device an all computers in the Windows network with some remote-administration features automatically?

How to get an inactive RAID device working again?

After booting, my RAID1 device (/dev/md_d0 *) sometimes goes in some funny state and I cannot mount it. * Originally I created /dev/md0 but it has somehow changed itself into /dev/md_d0. # mount /opt mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/md_d0, missing codepage or helper program, or other error (could this be the IDE device where you in fact use ide-scsi so that sr0 or sda or so is needed?) In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so The RAID device appears to be inactive somehow: # cat /proc/mdstat Personalities : [linear] [multipath] [raid0] [raid1] [raid6] [raid5] [raid4] [raid10] md_d0 : inactive sda4[0](S) 241095104 blocks # mdadm --detail /dev/md_d0 mdadm: md device /dev/md_d0 does not appear to be active. Problem with Landscape and Portrait view in a TabBar Application

I have an TabBar app that I would like to be in landscape and portrait. The issue is when I go to tab 2 make a selection from my table then select tab 1 and rotate the device, then select tab 2 again the content does not know that the device rotated and will not display my custom orientated content correctly. I am trying to write a priovate method that tells the view what orientation it is currently in. IN viewDidLoad I am assuming it is in portrait but in shouldAutoRotate I have it looking in the private method for the correct alignment of the content. Please Help!!
